I drew a motorcycle using the techniques in this video, and received a job offer designing custom motorcycles due to that drawing. I now purchased your course and will be reviewing every detail you go through. I just wanted to say thank you for providing such valuable information. You never know when something so simple can be life changing.
Hlw sir.. would you like to information me about these design because if i can drawing any good quality bike design so can i get any job about these related??
Thank you very much sir Learnt a lot from your videos Now i design cars and bikes for costum shops Sold my first chopper design for 50$ that was my first success Love you sir for such a great video God bless you
Mad Skills Raw Talent. My Dad was an Architect and taught me about perspective when I was A young kid. Later went to Art School and doing nothing with it. Ha. Draw as a Hobby and work restoring Cycles now. Great Work
Spectacular! Scott you are the best concept designer I've ever followed. Keep sharing your techniques, I bought your book for "How to draw" really impressive!
I love Scott Robertson , Its been over a year since I fell in love with concept art , even though Im not very good now , I am going to apply for Entertainment Design at Artcenter . Hopefully with the knowledge I got from you and your books will get me an admission there , I believe that my imagination will reach somewhere if I am surrounded with people like you :)
vivek RS I agree with you, I have bought all of Scott's books and draw what I can when I have the time, I am a bit old now to go to a college etc, but I do enjoy coming up with concept ships and vehicles, which are on Instagram under art_by_sargy, good luck for the future.
Mr Robertson: I have watched your tutorial 3 the full version of this motorbike episode, I have one question that still bothers me. It's 22:31 in episode3. you were saying, that's where it's going to have to hit, and you move the guide in and out until the widest part hits tangent. My question is, It's not very clear that in 5 point perspective, why you can't use the guide draw ellipses using major axis as a reference like you do in falt two-point perspective. And you were mentioning hits tangent with the point, I'm still confused, I think 5 points could be some distortions, due to vanishing points above and below, but in this case, how can you make reference. Thank you in advance!
I never use the major axis. If you do a construction of a square around the ellipse in perspective and connect the corners to find the center you will notice that the major axis of the ellipse doesn't go through the foreshortened center of the square, but the minor does. This is why the major axis is no help when trying to place the ellipse.
Hi Scott, I bought your Motocycle design 2 in gumroad. Im confuse by the degree of the motorcyle wheel. You said in 20:22 that the front wheel is 45 degree ellipse and the back wheel is 40 degree. I think that was 50 degree because of the vanishing point converging on the left. correct me if I'm wrong thanks.
I don't know if you have the time or had a video already posted about this subject but can you share with us how we could apply for jobs using this kind of concept art? Maybe examples of companies who look for this type of art work? It's very cool and not just anyone can do this kind of art. It'd be nice to know how it can be applied and to what field it can be applied to.
Industrial Design, Architecture, Illustration, Entertainment Design, Toy Design etc... Any job where you need to communicate your ideas with an accurate drawing.
Yeah this is definitely past my abilities but I keep trying. I've found that I'm seeing things I don't want to say better but in better greater detail since I've been trying seriously to draw
Incredible insight from all your tutorials. Also own your How to Draw book and it’s invaluable. I do have a question regarding your technique for building the front tire. The ellipse used for indicating the tire at center... is it one ellipse guide completely, or is it one ellipse guide to create the inner edge of the rim barrel, and then a larger ellipse guide at the top and bottom to connect the outer edge ( tire center ) to the right side of the inner tire? Hopefully that makes sense. Or is it just one ellipse guide of a different degree
Good question and good eye! It's not one, single larger ellipse guide to create the silhouette of the tire. I use a single guide for the rims, but if you then let the tire section properly dictate the silhouette you will observe a single guide will not match to your section lines properly, so I sort of blend a couple together or move around a single larger one to adapt to the section lines of the tire. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you! What you described is how I have been executing it, but I was second-guessing whether there was an obvious easier way I wasn’t picking up on.
Thanks for the reply, the tutorials were very helpful! Material on motorcycles seems to be scarce on the web. You mentioned you might do a motorcycle rendering tutorial as well - please do! By the way, your ellipse and circle guides, what brand(s) are they? I'm having trouble finding a variety of degrees and sizes.
Hello Mr.Scott, I know I'm late but just wanna say thank you for your knowledge, I bought your book here in Philippines.. it's a pure gem...though I'm a beginner in perspective drawing, I really want to challenge myself for new techniques, btw I've been looking for the vol. 2 which is the "how to render" but it seems that our local bookstores doesn't have it now... btw I wanna ask you something Mr.Scott, is there any difference between a "cube" and "X,Y,Z"? coz I've seen Artist like kim jung gi, and ernest norling doing the cube techniqe to draw anything at any angle they want... hope you can notice this comment thank you and sorry for my bad English.. good day!
Thank you. A cube is basically the same as an X, Y, Z axis corner. The sides of the cube define the X, Y, and Z planes in space. Two ways to describe and talk about the same thing, perspective grids based on a 90/90/90 degree corner of a box.
Scott Robertson thank you very much for answering my question sir.. very much appreciated... btw, is your course above video still available? thank you and honestly, just wanna tell that you're one of my idols...thank you for sharing and teaching your knowledge sir. takecare and God bless!
just bough it.....ITS AMAZING. if you have the book, they go holding hand, in fact its makes it more easy to understand the parts of the book. please do more of this, some enviroments perhaps :D
Sir I always have troubles with motorcyle wheels 3/4 front, unfortunatly, in this trailer don't really show th whole process. could you do some demos about it? Thank you!
Many people lack the comprehension of the force. And the direction of the force while moving .. the force line of the force direction is parallel to the road surface (road surface, tire surface, falcum point of both wheels And finally, the center of gravity. Of the weight of the car and people) .. but when the car turns But the road surface is not sloping With the line of force of the direction of force Will lose the balance
I find it easier and faster to draw small. Especially for demos, if I sketch too large the light quality falls off pretty fast around the edges of the frame.
A lot the perspective and measuring stuff is too left brain for me. I'm forcing myself to ingrain it into my brain so its second nature and i can go back to my creative thinking mode, but its hard...

Hey for starting out it's really hard to understand the concepts. Maybe starting on an more manageable level and then doing hardwork for experience. Ummm. What helped me since I also felt rage quiting and frustrated when first picking up this book but then again I knew little about perspective. What helped me is skimming through Perspective Made Easy book to the important concepts. Another resource that helped me was the UA-cam channel drawabox. The channel provides a website that has notes and exercises from the videos. Another channel that helped was moderndayjames, he has his own perspective videos. I have more channels I can list for you if you want. Just ask. I hope this helps and all the power to you. :)

Very good tutorial!! Thank u!
Hi Scott, are the Motorcycle Design videos included with the How to Draw book(s) or are they separate productions?
Separate. This tutorial can only be found through my Gumroad account.

Going to art center next year. Will you be teaching? I hear you don't tech there anymore...
