I'm coming at this from being a long time Evanescence fan, so I do think that Call Me When You're Sober was quite a blatant and harsh song to put out for the world to hear, and perhaps it's not fair to pin that on one person alone and of course, there's two sides to every story, I'm not really a follower of Seether, but Shaun has an amazing voice. Anyways, I know what it's like, being with an alcoholic and you do try to help, but it is so exhausting because you know that at the end of the day, it's their choice and you have to sit and watch, sit and be taken for granted, lied to and used. And that's a relationship without abuse! I know too many people who's lives are absolutely destroyed by alcoholism and it's so incredibly sad. Obviously a song like this seems so harsh, and maybe it is, but the harsh realities of life trying to deal with the problem whilst destroying everything around you is worse, so maybe the message, although harsh, is basically just take those steps and sort yourself out! And she obviously couldn't cope with it anymore, I know people who've tried for decades and had to leave in the end because their partners just wouldn't try hard enough to help themselves.

You love them through and through, but that kind of love, it's one of the hardest things to bear. Music is emotion put into words put into song. She probably needed to release it for some closure for herself. Albiet, I don't like that it hurt someone else, however if I could get the chance to go back and let the person I loved know how much alcohol was destroying their life before it finally did, I would have spoken out more like she did.
Writing it doesn't mean anything. I could write a song talking shit about my best friend outing all her personal life and say "it's how I express my feelings." But Lee did not have to release it for the whole world to see Shaun basically naked. It was shit that he was still going through himself and she had no right to share that with everyone

I don't know the exact time line of their situation (not my business anyways). I don't believe he was portrayed as an awful human being, but rather someone who didn't know what he wanted at the time, and was obviously struggling with his own demons. I personally see the song as her taking back her own sense of power in their situation, which I think is a good thing.

I think what certain fans did was tacky as hell! I saw Seether support Nickelback in 2018 and still cheered for them even though im a bigger evanescence fan. I think in his heart he knows the shit he did in the relationship to hurt her and make her end things. If he was drinking so much and maybe doing other stuff (that he wont speak about) he will have skewed memories of the situations and arguments they had and honestly when someone just wants to get black out drunk and not get help it hurts you to hell, you cant do anything with them and you cant go out anywhere for the fear of what they might do, thats not a relationship and there is always the worry if they turn violent which who knows if he did that to her. He has to know she always kept diaries writing down her feeling and situations to use for material for songs, she used her sisters death for several so is he that naive to think she wouldn’t have done that for this situation. It might have hurt him and he loved her but sometimes love isn’t enough it takes more than that to stay together but I think the song was probably a shot to the heart and a massive wake up call for him as he has turned his life around. It’s not like she couldn’t sympathise with him losing a sibling as she lost her sister at 3 and now just recently lost her brother Robbie both to epilepsy, which probably left her scared as hell her kid might have it but people have made out that she dumped him for his brother dying which wasnt the case, they split in 2005, he went to rehab in mid 2006, she released it in Sept 2006 he heard it when he got out (which she wouldnt have had that info) and Eugene actually killed himself in 2007. She was only young when she wrote the song too and only her second relationship after Ben and that end explosively and there was rumours he treated her like shit so whilst yes for people pointing fingers at Shaun it wasn’t nice but she never publicly named him and hasn’t said any shit about him in the papers so he kinda confirmed its about him if he understands the things said are things he did to her. Also he was either technically still married or just divorced when he met Amy as his wife decided she wanted to stay in South Africa along with his child whom he left there to move to the States so was there something already there that made her not want to stay with her husband , he also had a horrid relationship with his mum saying she left them in the car whilst she was off sleeping with Married men so really it sounds like he had issues stemming from them which probably made him not treat women so great and probably the more he drank the more that came out. I do love that people are protective of both but just looking at his past before he met her showed he has issues.

Granted there are two sides to every story, but it does seem to me that she was unnecessarily vindictive. It doesn't seem like the most reasonable way to deal with things. There's a difference between gossiping to friends behind someone's back post-breakup and using someone's personal struggle against them in a potentially career ruining song. Doing something like that is so petty.
The song is not bad really and we all create based on our own experiences in life but, what she did wrong in this was going public about to whom the lyrics were referred and letting the whole world know - shamelessly - that that person was Shaun Morgan! She could have remained silent, she could have denied that and pretended that it was about her PAST experiences not her recent experiences in life, etc.

I understand the whole idea of artists needing to express their feelings and experiences through songs and using it to heal, but plenty of artists write songs about exes and don't name names. I have heard Shaun in other interviews say that Breakdown isn't about his relationship with Amy. I love both of them, but it seems like he took the higher ground.
Amy also has a history of vindictiveness. She destroyed Evanescence, basically fired everyone, one by text IIRC, until it was basically 'The Amy Lee Band'. Shaun even accidentally mentions her ego in this vid. She has a huge one.
I have a similar experience, tbh, made a mistake, miss one of my ex girlfriends... as a friend even... part of me wishes I could make peace with her before either of us pass away. Life's too short to hold grudges. We need to move on from our mistakes, and hurt people gave us. Grow be better and be there to help others through their struggles.

I dont think anyone is the saint or the villain in this situation. The song came out at the worst time possible for both of them (the day he admitted himself to rehab). She couldn't have known and neither he. He had demons I hope he recovered from. He hurt her deeply and she is entitled to express those feelings, even if it is harsh. He also has the right to feel hurt by the song, especially because it's so personal and public. The situation is messy and painful and full of layers. I hate this for both of them because they both seem like genuinely good people.

I'm coming at this from being a long time Evanescence fan, so I do think that Call Me When You're Sober was quite a blatant and harsh song to put out for the world to hear, and perhaps it's not fair to pin that on one person alone and of course, there's two sides to every story, I'm not really a follower of Seether, but Shaun has an amazing voice. Anyways, I know what it's like, being with an alcoholic and you do try to help, but it is so exhausting because you know that at the end of the day, it's their choice and you have to sit and watch, sit and be taken for granted, lied to and used. And that's a relationship without abuse!
I know too many people who's lives are absolutely destroyed by alcoholism and it's so incredibly sad. Obviously a song like this seems so harsh, and maybe it is, but the harsh realities of life trying to deal with the problem whilst destroying everything around you is worse, so maybe the message, although harsh, is basically just take those steps and sort yourself out! And she obviously couldn't cope with it anymore, I know people who've tried for decades and had to leave in the end because their partners just wouldn't try hard enough to help themselves.
katiedfairy I was in a relationship with someone who drank a lot, so I understood a lot in her mv with the wolf and the man. It's like being with two people. You love them through and through, but that kind of love, it's one of the hardest things to bear. Music is emotion put into words put into song. She probably needed to release it for some closure for herself. Albiet, I don't like that it hurt someone else, however if I could get the chance to go back and let the person I loved know how much alcohol was destroying their life before it finally did, I would have spoken out more like she did.
Writing it doesn't mean anything. I could write a song talking shit about my best friend outing all her personal life and say "it's how I express my feelings." But Lee did not have to release it for the whole world to see Shaun basically naked. It was shit that he was still going through himself and she had no right to share that with everyone

Music is a means of healthy coping. It's a great song. Many of us have been where that song is, and can relate. He loved her, well, not enough. She obviously loved him too.

I don't know the exact time line of their situation (not my business anyways). I don't believe he was portrayed as an awful human being, but rather someone who didn't know what he wanted at the time, and was obviously struggling with his own demons. I personally see the song as her taking back her own sense of power in their situation, which I think is a good thing.

That song and video and her cute smirk that the end of the video was her telling him “fuck you, we’re done”. “I made up your mind” was her way of saying “we can’t do this anymore.”..

I think what certain fans did was tacky as hell! I saw Seether support Nickelback in 2018 and still cheered for them even though im a bigger evanescence fan.
I think in his heart he knows the shit he did in the relationship to hurt her and make her end things. If he was drinking so much and maybe doing other stuff (that he wont speak about) he will have skewed memories of the situations and arguments they had and honestly when someone just wants to get black out drunk and not get help it hurts you to hell, you cant do anything with them and you cant go out anywhere for the fear of what they might do, thats not a relationship and there is always the worry if they turn violent which who knows if he did that to her.
He has to know she always kept diaries writing down her feeling and situations to use for material for songs, she used her sisters death for several so is he that naive to think she wouldn’t have done that for this situation. It might have hurt him and he loved her but sometimes love isn’t enough it takes more than that to stay together but I think the song was probably a shot to the heart and a massive wake up call for him as he has turned his life around.
It’s not like she couldn’t sympathise with him losing a sibling as she lost her sister at 3 and now just recently lost her brother Robbie both to epilepsy, which probably left her scared as hell her kid might have it but people have made out that she dumped him for his brother dying which wasnt the case, they split in 2005, he went to rehab in mid 2006, she released it in Sept 2006 he heard it when he got out (which she wouldnt have had that info) and Eugene actually killed himself in 2007.
She was only young when she wrote the song too and only her second relationship after Ben and that end explosively and there was rumours he treated her like shit so whilst yes for people pointing fingers at Shaun it wasn’t nice but she never publicly named him and hasn’t said any shit about him in the papers so he kinda confirmed its about him if he understands the things said are things he did to her.
Also he was either technically still married or just divorced when he met Amy as his wife decided she wanted to stay in South Africa along with his child whom he left there to move to the States so was there something already there that made her not want to stay with her husband , he also had a horrid relationship with his mum saying she left them in the car whilst she was off sleeping with Married men so really it sounds like he had issues stemming from them which probably made him not treat women so great and probably the more he drank the more that came out.
I do love that people are protective of both but just looking at his past before he met her showed he has issues.

Granted there are two sides to every story, but it does seem to me that she was unnecessarily vindictive. It doesn't seem like the most reasonable way to deal with things. There's a difference between gossiping to friends behind someone's back post-breakup and using someone's personal struggle against them in a potentially career ruining song. Doing something like that is so petty.
The song is not bad really and we all create based on our own experiences in life but, what she did wrong in this was going public about to whom the lyrics were referred and letting the whole world know - shamelessly - that that person was Shaun Morgan! She could have remained silent, she could have denied that and pretended that it was about her PAST experiences not her recent experiences in life, etc.
I totally agree with you on that Mm. I understand the whole idea of artists needing to express their feelings and experiences through songs and using it to heal, but plenty of artists write songs about exes and don't name names. I have heard Shaun in other interviews say that Breakdown isn't about his relationship with Amy. I love both of them, but it seems like he took the higher ground.
Amy also has a history of vindictiveness. She destroyed Evanescence, basically fired everyone, one by text IIRC, until it was basically 'The Amy Lee Band'.

I dont think anyone is the saint or the villain in this situation. The song came out at the worst time possible for both of them (the day he admitted himself to rehab). She couldn't have known and neither he. He had demons I hope he recovered from. He hurt her deeply and she is entitled to express those feelings, even if it is harsh. He also has the right to feel hurt by the song, especially because it's so personal and public. The situation is messy and painful and full of layers. I hate this for both of them because they both seem like genuinely good people.
