My grandma had a 1980s Rubik's cube and gave it to me for my birthday a few years back. It's still in its packaging from when she bought it over 30 years ago.

It hurts because having sealed puzzles from many years ago is awesome but when you rip into them they are worth a LOT less, Example: A sealed 1980 Rubik's cube is worth around 150 dollars, when it is opened and used, it is worth around 15 dollars

My grandparents are antique collectors and had an original Rubik’s cube, and they said I could have it if I solve it! So now I own an original 3x3 and I know what you’re talking about when you say its turning is not the best.
I like the metallic silver and gold on the megaminx. Might get those colors for a 3x3.

I had one of those Orb puzzles. I never solved it. Part of the problem was that it didn't turn very well at all. It appears your copy turns a lot better than mine ever did. I ended up selling my Orb on eBay many years ago.
What got me into cubing was when I played with my dad's 1980s Rubik's Cube
My heart ached when I saw him rip the stickers off, “price deducted” kept playing over and over in my mind

the orb is also from RedKB
Rubik's brand wasn't the only brand in the 80s, in Europe, Asia and Africa, it was more common to see Wonderful Puzzler cubes.
Holy I did not know Ryan did this!! And I know what that mini 3x3 is, it's a mini cyclone boys that DG failed to unbox and we all got that at Canadian open in a gift bag and it turned so bad out of the box but if its lubricated it's really fast.
My science teacher actually owns one of the orb puzzles. Neither of us knew how to solve it at the time, but I think that using center commutaters it could be easily solved.
There's a hobby shop a mile away with the vintage 1980's cubes for sale (or at least the same style and the same box. I can't confirm if it's original or just remakes. Haven't actually looked at the color schemes.) if you want one I can swing by and grab one.

I've actually seen an original 1980 (or at least it said it was) rubiks cube at a store near my house. it was in the same packaging and everything. probably wasn't legitimately a 1980 one though, since it was only $20

I have that original Japanese colour scheme cube! I learnt on that cube. It was my mums. She had a Rubik’s revenge aswell, although It was crazy stiff when we found it.
There was actually another Rubik's brand cube from that age which was faster. I personally think the one I'm talking about turns better then the ones made right now
I have a Rubik brand just like the one unboxed in this vid, but I lubed it and after leaving it a few days it became almost as good as a zanchi just without corner cutting

You should try to get the Rubik's cube instructions out of the box because I'm pretty sure it's a completely different method than what we do.

I have an original 3x3 like that one that my dad used as a kid and when I learned how to solve a cube he gave it to me as a present
Plus at the first world championship they distributed cubes people weren't able to use their own so I doubt any of them were lubed

I assume that ShengShou shades applied in the Japanese color scheme are pretty close.
