I heard it described really well. The OG was the warning, Disturbed's version was the anger, PTX cover is the pleading and Geoff's version is the sadness and reflection afterwards. Every time I listen to this cover, I cry. It touches my soul, and I feel like I am seeing the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Absolutely amazing cover. Great reaction!!
I will never see the covers the same way again so thank you. I will only add that the cover from the little known group Gregorian is perhaps the Redemption version
You are my favorite reaction video. You are so connected with your emotions when you listen to this song. And it's beautiful. Not just because you are beautiful, I mean you are. It's just listening to him sing and your reactions are just the perfect combination. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Also, please listen to his "16 Tons, Over the Misty Mountains" and "I see Fire"" solos and "My Mother Told Me" and "Valhalla Calling" from his group, Voice Play.
I think this is the most beautiful piece done by Geoff. This one and when Voiceplay sang I Can’t Make you Love me. Those 2 songs got me legit emotional and I love them
Possibly one of the single most soulful covers of all time!!! And the magic isn't just in the performance, but just as much in the brilliant work Geoff did re-arranging the song to fit his unique style and range, without losing the essential feel that the original song carries.
Geoff has said that when he is considering a cover he listens to the original many times. Then he listens to every cover he can find. If he can't add something, he walks away. Why do something someone else has already done, right? For the most part, Geoff's solo work is just him and his wife, Kathy. Occasionally he will bring in extra camera, lights and makeup. In this one, Layne Stein, the beat boxer with Voiceplay handled the camera and Eli (ELL-ee) Jacobson, Voiceplay's tenor, did the lighting. I would go with Ain't No Sunshine and Shenandoah next.
Hi there! One good song to get a feeling of what he can do, and not only in terms of "absolute low", is "Ain't no sunshine", originally by Bill Withers. He totally respected it, yet he made it totally his own. 🙂 Some more suggestions: - "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", from the movie "The Hobbit". All the 4 guys in the video are him. A beautiful song that sounds as if it was written for him. 🙂 - "Shenandoah"... An old song that he covered beautifully. - "Till then": a 1944 song written from the POV of a soldier who asks his girlfriend to wait for him "till then", when he will be back from the war. So sweet... 🙂 - "Man of constant sorrow", he gave to it a different mood and really made it his own. 🙂 - "16 tons", old song about the life of coal miners... Won't spoil anything. 🙂 - "Way down", Elvis' song with a really REALLY deep note at the end 😁, showcasing his sense of humour; - "High and dry", originally by Radiohead... The only one in which he doesn't harmonise with himself, but shows off in terms of range and low notes 😉. - Ghost riders in the sky"... Released as an Halloween song, but to me it's just a GREAT song. 🙂 - "God rest you merry gentlemen", I know it's not the right time of the year, but... 😉 - His Halloween stuff (hilarious), "Monster Mash" and "Headless Horseman", the latter has a last note that will rumble your shoes off 😅. There could be more, but it's ok for now 😁 Subsribed in anticipation for more Voiceplay and Geoff. 🙂 See you next time!
Yes he is so nice. Just a lovely lovely person, so humble yes so talented. His voice, his arrangmements, his editing skills, everything, and with a subtle but incredible sense of fun. And trust Geoff to being the emotion. I suggest his Shenandoah in which you see him with his "clones", which he created to show him singing every part of the harmonies he creates.
I believe that this is the first video where Geoff's "chorus of clones" (I'm trademarking that phrase!) helps with the sound, but doesn't make a visual appearance in the video. Nothing like getting a little bit of help from your friends - VoicePlay members Eli provided the lighting, and Layne provided the steadicam work. And nice to see the piano from "Till Then" making another appearance! Recommendations: The Bare Necessities (the first solo video Geoff put out when he started his solo channel during the lockdown), Blackbird (another one showing Geoff's range), Way Down (the "chorus of clones" get names!), Monster Mash (no need to save it for Halloween).
2 more things - the woman in Monster Mash is his wife and on his own page Geoff also has several readings (poems) from literary works, so yes, Geoff is attempting to do it all. I first learned of Geoff when I was searching for acapella groups ie PTX and Home Free (their cover of End of the Road is incredible) discovered VP, then focused on Geoff a bit more. Also Aileen, have you reacted to any of Tina Guo, she's a confirmed Metal fan and the main Cellist for Hans Zimmers shows so she's done the Wonder Woman theme, quite a few LOTR pieces and many more (Yeah, I know, just one more rabbit hole to explore)
Wunderbar zu sehen wie du wie immer mit ganzem Herzen dabei bist/mitfühlst.Und die Bewertung danach ist auch mit viel Gefühl gesprochen.Eine Freude dies zu sehen.😎👍
When the harmonizing comes in, that’s what he calls the Geoff choir. Every voice is him. Mr. Baroni covered future song suggestions nicely. VoicePlay has put out some new killer songs recently, too.
That was a nice interpretation, Aileen! Someone else said, and I agree with the notion that Simon and Garfunkel issued a plea, Disturbed added the frustration that the plea went unheard, Pentatonix restyled it and tried again to send forth an appeal, and Geoff Castellucci and company also restyled it. Geoff is interesting in that he's capable of reaching down to that vocal range of "basso profundo" that crosses into what's called "Mongolian throat singing". Thank you for cheering up a subdued Sunday, haven't been feeling so hot, but you brought some smiles for this old buzzard. ❤💐😊😇
@@AileenSenpaiGeoff Castallucci is the low bass singer in the a capella group called Voice Play. Please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover of.. Peaches ( Bowser, Mario, Luigi & Toad ). Geoff really unleashes his inner Rock God in this one along with his bass notes. This is Geoff like you've never heard him before. Look out Eli, Geoff is coming for you lol. One of Layne's daughters "aka" Peaches makes her appearance at the end. Voice Play are known as The Theater Kids of a capella. You would love their cover of ( Dream On ) originally by Aerosmith. Voice Play knocks it out of the ball park.
I can't wait to hear more Geoff. Ain't No Sunshine and Way Down are some of my favorites. High And Dry if you want to hear a good part of his range (still not all of it of course)
Geoff is a great talent. I love all your reactions. You exhibit so much feeling. I appreciate that you don't talk too much during the video, but you have much to say overall. You are beautiful and I just love you to death. ❤
I'd ask for a dbl reaction, to do with My Mother Told Me then Valhalla Calling. I treat those pieces as musical book ends, since they are both Viking focused
Oh please do his version of "Sixteen Tons"! Holy shit does he hit low notes so well. I think it's called subharmonics? I can't remember if you've checked out Home Free, but please do! Fantastic acapella group.
As a bass/baritone vocalist, we tend to have a wide vocal range. As far as HOW we can get that deep... Bass singers usually experience strong resonance in their chest and throat. A lowered larynx can help you extend your low range. Tension, or constriction, within the vocal folds and above them can help you sing lower. And lastly, vocal range and timbre are heavily influenced by their anatomical structure. As with all vocals, A LOT is happening. Bands with low vocals... Type O Negative, Dreadful Shadows, Sisters of Mercy, Tears of Passion......
Simon and Garfunkle's version is the warning. Disturbed's version is the anger. Pentatonix's version is the longing. Geoff's version is the hope. Not like a grand, bold hope, but the... "we're not there yet, but we've still got a chance of making it." Peyton Parish has done an interesting cover of the song, as well. Also, if you want rock from acapella, you need to check out VoicePlay, which Geoff is the bass of. They've done songs like Nothing Else Matters, Dream On... heck, their recent cover of Seven Nation Army is... _powerful_, as is their recent cover of Valhalla Calling. One of the founding members, Eli (Elly, not E-lie) has some _amazing_ rock tenor vocals.
Check out his cover of 16 Tons. I grew up listening to Tennessee Ernie Fords original song But I have fallen in love with Geoff's cover. His full voice range comes out in that song.
im a lover of all music having been trained as a muscian i appreciate all creators of music i know the work that goes into it, not sure if its appealing to you but pentatonix is one of the best vocal groups they can do just about anything. their fan base is kind and loyal. if you do decide to listen to them daft punk and bohemian rhapsody are awesome their beat boxer is almost perfect mimic of a trap set. they also do the sound of silence
I recommend his songs Till Then and High and Dry. Till Then is a love song but its beautiful. High and Dry really shows off his range but captures your heart strings.
Aileen I like your reactions to some of the same music I enjoy. And you let the music and singing take you on an emotional journey. Go take a look at Mike Yung. A street preformer, subway singer. A true vocalist. Listen to his version of unchained melody.
He does some beautiful low notes in VoicePlay's latest song "What shall we do with the drunken sailor" And if you want some ridiculously high notes, try the VoicePlay mini cover of "Peaches"! He also goes pretty high in VoicePlay's "Queen in 5 minutes" medley. And then there is the live performance of Elvira ua-cam.com/video/sYlzZUwpd-0/v-deo.html (credit to @DavideBaroni for finding that one)

This is a music path to enjoy Geoff is incredible and so is the group voiceplay he is in hope for more reactions
Thank you for another great reaction to Geoff Castallucci. He has a way of reaching deep down into your soul & makes you feel the pain & sorrow.

I might be wrong but didn't Geoff have additional help when he did Monster Mash?
@@steveeverett1736 He had help with the choreography, the rest was all him and Kathy.

Harmonies by the backup singers is Geoff. He layered harmonies with his lead vocals.
Wow! I loved how he held with the harmony.

Ciao Aileen, great reaction, as always. Grazie

My god, his range is just divine! Holy crap (no pun intended).
I'm a dude and this guys voice gives me chills nice cover❤
Geoff's latest, Man of Constant Sorrow is awesome as well! For pure fun, try Geoff's cover of Elvis Presley's Way Down! Also Ghost Riders in the Sky!

He's his own quartet.
You should check out Voiceplay's cover of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. Geoff did the arrangement on that one
I would love to see him as a bass vocalist on the Disturbed cover tbh. Him and Dave could create some hauntingly magnificent harmonies.

Cool new one for me.
You want to do Blackbird by Goeff Castellucci - quite awesome.
I hope everyone can appreciate how beautiful this song is no matter who covers it!!!!

A great version of this song is from Johnathan young!

If you want to see him dance, sing and more watch
"Way down"
Dont know if youve ever heard disturbed's version of this song. But i highly recomend it.
Pentatonix does a good version of "The Sound of Silence" too. You might enjoy it.

Geoff Castelucci is the disappointment.
Disturbed is the rage.

how do you do drive this thing?

While he has excellent covers of a lot of songs this was a miss for me Disturbed is still reigning king of best version.
first!
meus pêsames sobre seu pai.

t the best suited for this song
I wish that this was not so electronically altered.
Not really a great song to discuss the singing in my opinion.
invalid discord link...sad face
The original is Simon and Garfunkel. Please do your research.
Im the odd one out here... as awesome as Geoff is, i **really** don't like this version of the song.
He was up and down and trying to hard to hit the base! He lost the melody! He is brilliant, but this was not!
......

There's autotune in there, no doubt.
Meh sub par
