I have driven by that at least 1000 times and never knew it was there.

I would have never seen it if I wasn’t looking at a vacant lot for sale that it sits on. Still don’t know what it was built for?

@@CREENBIRDVideos after visiting the tower for myself and knowing some of the local history I'm assuming it was a survey tower from when they built the buried pipeline that runs right next to the tower. The date on the hatch corresponds with about the time that the pipeline (Enbridge Line 5) was laid across the Straits of Mackinac.

@@shadymaint1 some people replied it may have been a future tourist prop, but I agree with you. It looks to have been built really well, like a survey company or army engineers and there probably weren’t any those trees around. I thought maybe it was a sight tower when the bridge was being built? Maybe the door was made after the bridge was built? I posted the video because I was hoping someone knew why it was here? Thanks again for commenting.

Stopped by this and took a look. Going by the date on the top it I think it was a survey tower from when they built the pipeline. The pipeline goes within feet of this structure and the date corresponds to about the time that the pipeline was laid across the Straits of Mackinac.

I see a fiber cable route marker. Maybe a former communications repeater site. Microwave communications was in it’s prime back then.

The markers may be for the houses just north of there. The tower is at the end of an easement.
