- Welcome back to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we'll be showing you how to properly remove and install your oxygen sensor on our 2007 Altima. This is for the 2.5 Liter engine and it is the upstream sensor before it passes through the catalytic converter. In summary, it's really easy and simple to do! A special socket called an "Oxygen Sensor Socket" can be a huge help in this process but you can get by with a 22 mm or 7/8" wrench. If you need help or have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out with a comment, and as always, thanks for watching!
Replacing this Oxygen Sensor SHOULD resolve the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):

@Trick Shift Garage thanks for replying to me.. now I don't know if you already have a video of the fog lights installation I noticed that your altima doesn't have any so that would be a great video and will help me a lot since I want to get mine installed .... thanks and have a great day
Sounds good! Yeah I don't have fog lights on my Altima but I'll look into it. Thanks for the video idea 😉
Thank you you are very helpful
Thanks for watching Marlon!
Firestone wanted $800 to do up n downstream... And the guys there know me. Showed my wife n said "I can get that down PLUS install a cold air intake for same price" #winning 😂
Haha! Yes you are winning and a smart move too. $800 seems a bit much lol. Thanks for watching! 👍
Thank you for all the great videos. My altima light just came on with a P2423 code. Could it be the cat?
Great video! I was able to change both the upstream and downstream sensors but now my car has a yank and sometimes rpm takes a bit to go up
Did I do something wrong?
Hey bro thanks I appreciate you're video
You're welcome and thanks for watching bro! 🙂
Another great video from you guys!! Do you have one on how to remove the crankshaft position sensor or just showing where it is located at on the engine
Not yet but I'll look into it! 🙂
Great Video... My Altima 2012 Upstream Sensor Voltage range is between 1.5 V to 2.1 V isn't it high?
Thanks you so much
Thanks for watching! 😁
from that o2 sensor hole can you send a camera down there to inspect the cat honeycomb , see if it looks clogged or broken in pieces?
Great videos! When buying the O2 sensors the upstream I have looks similar to the downstream sensor I replaced. The only difference between them is the color of the electric connector. The old upstream sensor looks different from the old one. Can my new one now look different than my old one?
Yes, they can look different than the original one sometimes. Different manufacturers have slightly different designs but it should work the same internally. As long as the electrical connector fits into the cars plug it should be fine. Thanks for watching Rick! 👍
I was wondering about this too! I ordered an upstream and downstream from Amazon and when removing old upstream noticed it looks different then new one that does fit, other new one looks the same (same wire colors and shape of o2 sensor is the same) but does not fit the electrical connection! Amazon says the ones I ordered fit my car. I have not tried removing the downstream sensor yet. My grandfather told me as long as the wire colors match it should be fine, and that shape does not matter, but the wire colors are different! Does wire color matter?
Great video!! Thank you. If I can ask, what is the lubricant for? For a better seal?
You're welcome! It's anti-seize compound, basically keeps it from being impossible to take out when it needs to be replaced in the future. Thanks for watching! 👍
I understand. Thanks for answering my question.
Thank you so much for video. Please let me know if you have any Video for Downstream Sensor. God bless
Hi! Just wanted to let you know I will have a video on the downstream O2 sensor so stay tuned! Thanks for watching! 🙂
I have an engine code P2423 by replacing this will that solve the issue?
Is this the same on a 2007 altima hybrid?
I have a Nissan Rogue 2009, I got this code P1148 and need any help to make sure if I have to replace Upstream Sensor or Downstream. Thanks a lot for any HELP
Not sure for Nissan Rogues but in the past I've been able to go to AutoZone/Advanced Auto and they would scan and tell me which O2 sensor was the bad one for free! I believe most auto parts stores have this service so check out your local stores and ask if they do this. Hope this helps, thabks for watching! 👍
My cars computer plug in part does not work so In order to get my codes I have to turn the car on but not the engine, press the accelerator a specific amount of time and read off the codes based on how many times the SES light blinks. I recently got code P0420. Would changing these 02 sensors make it go away? I've been seeing things like changing the catalytic convertor to just cleaning the air filter.
I used to do that on my old 1992 Lumina Z34! 😂
Anyways, the P0420 code means it's a catalytic converter failure, which means you have to replace the exhaust manifold (that has a catalytic converter).
With that being said, replacing the oxygen sensor wouldn't hurt anything, it just (probably) wouldn't make that code go away. We do have a video on how to replace the exhaust manifold here:
m.ua-cam.com/video/xew4Rie4iFM/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching! 😁👍
@@TrickShiftGarage thank you so much
Hello. Code P0148 & P0031 do you know what they mean?
Hello, my code is P015B, delayed response bank 1 sensor 1. That would be same as sensor you replaced correct?? I have a 2011
Yes, that should be this sensor. The other downstream O2 sensor is bank 1 sensor 2. Thanks for watching Timbo! 👍
Thankx
You're welcome 😊
When i took my sensor off, it brought the bolts inbetween the manifold and the sensor with it. Do you know which way or direction its suppose to go back in?
It took the welded piece that holds the sensor to the manifold too?
@@TrickShiftGarage so it took two bolts, could be spacer bolts but when i had went to replace the other, it was already finger turning loose, so i had u screwed it all off, and sperated the two bolts and o2 sensor. Both are the same kind of open ended bolts but one has a smaller opening. Pictures would make this a whole lot easier to explain haha. Dont wanna take it into a shop and have them charge me 2-3 hundred bucks for it.
Is it possible to take out and just clean it or should I order a new one
Honestly, I would order a new one. You could take it out and clean it but will probably not fix it. Thanks for watching !👍
I have the usual P0420 code on my 2007 Altima 2.5. Should I replace the 02 sensor first to see if it resolves the code or just replace the cat altogether?
I would replace the O2 sensor first and see if that clears the code. If it doesn't, then replace the cat. Thanks for watching Jon! 👍
@@TrickShiftGarage thank you. Love your videos
You're welcome Joe! 😊
@@TrickShiftGarage one last question. Do you think its the upstream or downstream sensor thats triggering the P0420 code?
Not sure it could be either one, what I would do is take your car to the local auto parts store (AutoZone, Advanced Auto, etc.) and they should be able to scan your car (for free) and tell you which one is bad.
I don't have a Cat it was stolen, straight piped. Which 02 sensor should I buy?
Not sure to be honest with you. A tuning shop that specializes in Nissans might be able to help you out. Thanks for watching! 👍
Whats the part number for o2 sensor i cant find it
Can I gut the exhaust cat? And the second cat as well?
You certainly can gut them out...but honestly, I wouldn't recommend it.
It would cause the engine trouble codes to light up and the engine will probably not run right. The O2 sensors will send conflicting signals to your ECM (the cars computer) and your fuel injectors will change it's fuel delivery, possibly putting it into a kind of "limp" mode, your gas mileage will probably go down too. Hope this sheds some light for you, thanks for watching! 👍
Gracias hermano me.funciono!!!!
Thanks for watching! 👍
Is there only one o2 or is there two? If so do you know how to read the stft and ltft? I have a p0171 and am a bit confused
Nvm I seen the downstream. My b1 s2 o2 is reading at 0v so hopefully that will fix the code.
Ok, that should do the trick. Let us know if you have any other questions 🙂
When you replaced your exhaust manifold did you use an aftermarket one or did you get one from the dealer ?
I bought an aftermarket one since it was much cheaper than the OEM one. Here's the Link for it:
amzn.to/3ia0W3x
We also have a video showing exactly how to replace it right here:
ua-cam.com/video/xew4Rie4iFM/v-deo.html
Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍
@@TrickShiftGarage thank you I will order it and i purchased one and the check engine light stays on
Well, you should find out what the check engine light is for first and go from there. It may be just a bad O2 sensor which is much easier to replace than the exhaust manifold.
Is it in the same location for a 2007 Nissan Altima or will i have to get under the car ?
It's the same location, my Altima is a 2007 too 😉
quick question was that 02 censor for bank 1 sensor 1?
Yes, the upstream O2 sensor here is considered bank 1 sensor 1, while the downstream O2 sensor is bank 1 sensor 2. Thanks for watching Jaydon! 👍
@@TrickShiftGaragegot a question real quick then which one is bank two sensor one where is that at because there's an upstream for bank two as well
Where should I purchase a new o2 sensor? Any recommendations?
Any local auto parts star near you should be fine, but I usually lean towards Bosch. If they don't have them, then try to go ACDelco or Denso brand. Thanks for watching! 👍
@@TrickShiftGarage brilliant
Is NTK a good option?
Do you have to torque it back on or just hand tight?
I would torque it back on but you can probably hand tighten it, if you got muscles 💪😉
@@TrickShiftGarage hey I replaced the cat and 02 sensor. The altima is still running a p0420. Do you know what it might be?
Hmmmm, I'd make sure your O2 sensor is plugged in completely, also check for any exhaust leaks (especially around the O2 sensor), if everything looks in order, try removing the black negative cable from the battery terminal and wait a few minutes and reconnect it. That should restart the ECU (and clear any trouble codes). If it comes back on then I would suspect the other O2 sensor may be bad. Our Altima's come with two O2 sensors, the one before the cat (upstream) and one after the cat (downstream). It could be whichever O2 sensor you haven't replaced yet. If all else fails take it to the dealership and have them diagnose it further. Hope this helps, good luck bro!
I'm getting a Lean code could it be an exhaust leak?
Yes, it's possible. Thanks for watching! 👍
@@TrickShiftGarageWill my engine burn More fuel with the PO14b code or ruin anything?
How would know which sensor is bad upstream or Downatream ?
In the beginning of the video you didn't mention about removing the negative post from the battery Haha.
Hi Juan! You'd have to get a scanner to tell you which O2 sensor is bad. Usually, an auto parts store can read your trouble codes (for free) and inform you on which one is bad.
Oops! (Can't believe I did that, haha) Thanks for watching! 😊
Isn't that the air/fuel ratio sensor?🤔
Are they the same thing?
Correct, thanks for watching Daven! 👍
Is it another sensor that goes on the bottom of that sensor because mine have 2 one at the top and one at the bottom
Yes, there's a downstream O2 sensor as well. Here's a link for that video. Thanks for watching Tk!
ua-cam.com/video/-7eu_j5IW6k/v-deo.html
Thanks I seen that video but it that’s not the same location I have ……is there anyway I can send a picture of the location I have
Sure! You can email us at trickshiftgarage@gmail.com
U think I'll do better by just cleaning off my o2 sensors instead of getting new ones?
Hi Deisel, I think you'll do better by replacing them. When these sensors go bad, there's usually no saving them unfortunately.
@@TrickShiftGarage is there any other tools I can use to get that 02 sensor off
A 7/8" or 22 mm wrench should also get it off.
Is it useful for fuel economy?
Yes. If it's malfunctioning it could lower your fuel economy. Once it's replaced your fuel economy should go back to normal. Thanks for watching! 😊
Do you know if they're similar to the 2013 altimas?
Yes, they're very similar to the 2013 Altimas. Thanks for watching 👍
@@TrickShiftGarage appreciate the quick reply, thank you for that. You're video helped alot.
Just a question does it only have 1 sensor??
No, most of them have 2 sensors and some of them have 3 sensors for California emissions standard. Thanks for watching! 👍
Where is the harness that plugs into the o 2 sensor on the bottem of a 2012
The location for the harness that plugs into the O2 sensor on the bottom side is located in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/-7eu_j5IW6k/v-deo.html
We walk you through how to change that one here but it should show the harness your looking for. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching Renea! 👍
I replaced my bank1 sensor1, I replaced intake tube, I unplugged my maf flow sensor and replugged it to reset the reading.... my check engine is still on..... any ideas??
Hi Oli, I think it may be the exhaust manifold's catalytic converter itself. The stock ones from Nissan are known to go bad and sometimes the only "tell" is the check engine light pointing to the O2 sensor.
Here's a video showing how to replace this part, hope it helps you, good luck!
ua-cam.com/video/xew4Rie4iFM/v-deo.html
@@TrickShiftGarage so replace the cat then
Yeah, just my guess. If you want to be sure take it to a reputable shop that can confirm it before you buy it.
@@TrickShiftGarage I just cleaned the maf sensor and gonna pour cat cleaner in fuel tank
Sounds good, it's worth a shot! Thanks for watching! 👍
Is it me or is the o2 sensor not easy to take apart like how it looks for him
❤
I have a Nissan xterra 2008 where can I locate that part?
Not sure but this video should show you where it is and how to replace it! 👍
ua-cam.com/video/Q9oeUVtL0pc/v-deo.html
@@TrickShiftGarage thanks good video
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Why do you have to take off the battery terminal
Just to be safe and not short anything out. Thanks for watching 👍
What’s the smoke at the end of the vid ?
That's extra anti-seize compound burning off, put on a little too much that time! 😁
My sensor is stuck. That little tab you press to release the plug in isn't doing anything
Unfortunately, a lot of these get stuck. You may need to get some heat on it. Just be careful!
Is that bank 1 sensor 1??
Yes it is, thanks for watching!
How do I know if it’s and upstream or downstream sensor? I have a 2011 Altima
The one that I replaced here is called the upstream one. What I like to do is picture the exhaust pipe as a stream and the catalytic converter is in the middle, there's one O2 sensor before and after the catalytic converter. The upstream O2 is where the exhaust gases flow by before it goes through the catalytic converter. You can see the catalytic converter right below the O2 sensor in the video. The downstream O2 sensor is on the other side of the catalytic converter. That measures the oxygen level again to see if the catalytic converter is working correctly. I hope this helps you visualize is more. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
So there’s a total of three sensors in a 2011 Altima?
Jloks Lopez I think Altimas that were built with California emissions standards have 3 of them. Our Altima only has 2 oxygen sensors.
The third one is located further downstream just past the resonator and before the two mufflers. Thanks for watching! 👍
Note to everyone. Never use a torque wrench to loosen anything...
Eh, I wouldn't say you can never do it. But overall you should use a regular wrench.
What do I so
Is ok bur he didn't show how to teste it
Thanks Jose, yeahhhh, mine wasn't acting up when we did this video. It was more a simple walkthrough on how to do it. Usually, a check engine light will tell you the oxygen sensor is going bad. Thanks for watching! 👍
no check engine but you have TPMS 😅😅
we need a video also for TPMS
Haha! That TPMS light has been on for years! Nissan quoted me $150 for each sensor and apparently I have two bad ones, also pretty sure they have to take the tires off to replace each one. 😭😂
I have 2 O2 sensors
The other O2 sensor is located under the car, just follow the exhaust pipe and you'll see it 🙂
The plug wont come off
Unfortunately some of them are a pain.
38 ft lbs is an awful lot isnt it?
I thought so too, but that's what they called for. Thanks for watching! 👍
You didn’t mention removing the air filter and the heat shield.
Yeah, I forgot to mention removing the air filter ducting. There are two screws, one on each side by the radiator that you just loosen and it should come right out. I had my heat shield removed but I believe it shouldn't be physically in the way. If it is, there should be 5 or 6 - 10 mm bolts you have to loosen to get access to the O2 sensor. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍
My question is is what bank is that is that bank one or bank two upstream sensor
Bank 1 is before the catalytic converter and bank 2 is after. Thanks for watching! 👍
you have all solutions 🫡
We try our best! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! 🤟
