Get it right in dry dock rather than find the problem out at sea. Definitely better to be patient now for a great and bright future. Sounds like a great community!
Looking at this undertaking from watching some other videos posted, I thought what a risky venture. I was highly skeptical. Then I watched this video. The CEO seems to be totally up front and honest and instills confidence. Wish all involved fair sailing!
Great honest explanation. For decades I have wondered why someone doesn't buy an old cruise ship, refurbish it into a residential ship. Finally, someone with the necessary tenacity is doing it. Too bad you couldn't have started this a few years ago when the cruise lines were scraping decent operating ships during Covid. In hindsight, should have added extra time for the drydock with so many unknowns and no maintenance records rather than an aggressive date which would have been tough if everything went right. But in a few more weeks it will be water under the bow and you will have accomplished what many have only dreamed.
The endless maintenance and running costs. Its why 1980s cars are not sold now. Engines and most plant is built into the ship and upgrading and replacing is not a true option.
This is a fascinating and ambitious project! The CEO's transparency about the challenges is refreshing and inspiring. It's clear that reviving a cold ship for residential living at sea presents unique obstacles, but those setbacks are a hallmark of pioneering efforts. Overcoming them will pave the way for a whole new chapter in how we live, travel, and even retire, potentially in a more sustainable way. We’re excited to see this project progress and finally sail!
Only this leadership is going to get this done. Transparency, customer service are the hallmarks of Villa Vie. Congratulations and job well done; joining you soon!
This is an amazing transformation. A huge amount of work. Been following along & hope to some day sail on a segment to see if we want to be residence or not. Excited to see what other ships may follow. Way to stick with it & not give up.
That’s a huge project ! I’ve been interested in Villa Vie for a while now and am keenly following the progress. I hope to be able to join one of the segments. It’s so exciting! ❤
We're always striving on being as transparent as possible, the issue dragged out a bit, but we're finally finalizing our inspections and will be sailing in a matter of days.
I was watching JJ Cruises update on your Residency boat. Usually ships will have 2 months off for various updates each year; it appeared from their explanation that residents will be on for 3.5 years before next dry dock Is this true that any work that needs done will be done with residents onboard and follow up question Will residents have alternative accommodation while ship is in dry dock next or do the residents need to make those arrangements themselves Best of luck; happy cruising
A ship drydocks twice in five years (at least once in three years). The drydocks usually last 2 weeks for a standard one and 4 weeks for a major overhaul. Those are planned ones of course. If there is an emergency and they must wait to fabricate parts, who knows.
Stay strong, it is a massive undertaking.
"The ship is ready." @02:46 Hmmm. 🤦♀
it seems to be inspections. Just like building on land. It has to pass and that is not in their control.
The most important is the ship is safe and sea worthy no matter what the condition’s. Wishing the best for the residents

Honesty and transparency feels comforting when you put your life in a company’s hands. Great job villa vie, Mike Petterson and team
I like the transparency. Based on resident videos seems you missed your sail date even with the wiggle. Hope this works out for all.

Been following you for a good few months now, loving the transparency.
I hope the issues with H&W doesn't delay you any longer.
Wonderful, detailed analysis of the past few months and the remaining few days! Can’t wait to sail!
