    Good video however if I may suggest two small improvements,
    1, always drill two small holes in each end of the crack to ensure the crack doesn't continue to run after the repair is complete.
    2,
    Always put a layer of wet resin down first and then position the fiberglass patch to ensure it doesn't move then wet layer on top of the patch.

    Nice video, thanks for sharing this method. I hate to throw things away and it's so nice for people to take time to share how to repair items rather than discard them.

    Rimowa told me they could not fix my (stupidly expensive) case today. I'm so glad i came across your vid! Your clear instructions and demo helped me a tonne and I've had a 'crack' at fixing my case. Just hope I've used enough fiberglass to cope with the overly heavy handed bag handlers. Cheers 🍻

    Thanks for the video! I had great success with the fiberglass repair of my hardshell case. My "learning curve", was that in paying attention inside the case to make sure that the fiberglass cloth was soaked with resin and bubble free, I neglected to line up the break on the outside of the case. Oops. It was not horrible but it did require some mending. I used a dremel to smooth the edges of the crack, then used a clear drying Gorilla Glue to fill in that defect. Overall, I am pleased but, will know better next time.

    This is the best and most effective long lasting repair that is well presented and explained.

    Best repair on UA-cam. I initially thought of using fiberglass but was concerned the resin would melt the plastic. I see it does not. Thanks.

      Guys, I went ahead and fibreglassed around a cracked wheel, outside and also inside (had to cut some material back). It worked real well. Just travelled to 2 countries and still solid. So much that another wheel fell off with the airport abuse. So definitely recommend doing it around wheel supports.

    Excellent video. My nephew borrowed my Antler suitcase and returned it cracked. The damage is around one of the wheels; do you think this repair would last at that location? And where do you buy the repair products shown? I’m in Canada.

    • @brieftodo
      @brieftodo  4 роки тому +1

      You can apply fibreglass to the outside of the crack after sanding the reason I didn't as it looks unsightly. If you are going to apply it to the outside I would get some pigment the same color as your luggage to dye the resin. It doesn't need to be a commercial dye there are cheaper solutions as shown in my other video here ua-cam.com/video/8a4VfJGist4/v-deo.html

    Hello! I'm new to working with fiberglass. I've heard it can irritate the skin. Is it dangerous to put fibreglass on luggage due to potential skin irritation?"

    • @brieftodo
      @brieftodo  5 місяців тому

      It shouldn't irritate when dry but you can apply top coat fibreglass paint on top of the dried fibreglass if you prefer.

    Would epoxy resin work as well instead of fiberglass resin?

    • @brieftodo
      @brieftodo  3 роки тому +5

      The fibreglass and resin combined give strength and flexibility, resin alone is far more likely to crack when flexed in transit.

    • @brieftodo

      No wheels are normally made in some type of injection mold, you are better off buying a new or used compatible wheel.
