  • Once I poped out the crack and had it lined up, I used some glue as a temporary clamp and heated up the crack with a soldering iron. Little forward movements all along the crack to push the plastic into iteself and rebond. Worked great for a first time attempt.

I would have used plastic epoxy that remains flexible and put that on the inside of the case after roughing up the plastic. Forgot the brand, but they sell it. I've melted plastics together with an iron too, great tip.
This is similar to my tolex repair on guitar amps. They sell vinyl repair kits with an assortment of colors. You cut out the missing tolex and rough up the wood bare spot. Then you dab on the matching color until filled. They give a matching grain vinyl to place over the repair to form a grain similar to the original. On tiny nicks I just dab the color on and let it dry. Then press down with your fingers after it dries a few hours. The repair tends to blend in and not look as shiny. A good cleaning with armour all makes it look new again.

Qbond would have been an easier way to go (has a black filler powder you lay down before applying the adhesive) and is super strong and easy to blend in. repair came out pretty good though

If you can get at the inside at all it needs a piece glued in for strength .But cosmeticly it's great.

is this how you did it on your own case too? or did you fill gabs with something?
nice repair job btw, I was wondering if your cound get some kind of textured stamp to heat up and hide the seam.

Take the foam lining out and then manipulate it from both sides

Start on the inside of case. Push it out from there. Then consider adding baking soda to the glue on the inside. Cement tough.

Nice repair! What made you think of using the solder rod?

Dellboy, showed how to do this with a body panel for a car. Same exact technique. It welds the plastic back together. The glue is just a temporary "clamp". That was my idea;-) Worked great. I hit it with a hammer a few times. Seems strong enough to me.

Ever thought of epoxying a little bit of fibreglass mat on the inside to reinforce the area?.

that's exactly what i did, i layed some fiberglass fabric on the inside, then patched it with epoxy. worked very well.

A trick you can use to hide that line left behind is to go over it with a black Marker.

Mine completely smashed, a TON of plastic missing, so the only option I had was black duct tape! Compared to how awful it looked, it's not too bad!
