Is the 2014 Shelby GT500 the better Mustang to buy than a 2021 GT500?

- The Shelby GT500 is a legend that has been around since 1967. Ford made the 2014 GT500 the last of its kind. Under the hood is a 5.8L supercharged V8 that is pumping out 662HP is is mated to s 6-speed only manual gearbox. This particular GT500 has the Performance pkg, Track Pkg and of course has a carbon fiber drive shaft. On the outside you will find styling that will surpass 200MPH, 19in wheels, and vented hood. On the inside there is the tech pkg, leather seats and the cue ball shit knob. Is the 2014 Shelby GT500 the better Mustang muscle car than a new GT500?

To me this mustang has a more aggressive muscular stance, and those taillights are so much better.
I totally agree with you!
My grandparents have 2014 convertible old if should be excited for it lol cuz I don’t like convertibles but I’ll drive it
Naw the 20 is definitely more aggressive, that front end alone.
@@thefitnesslife4988 it’s not muscular anymore though
@@RaitisRides the proportions are perfect.😘
this gen was so good. you had these and the cali special with the full glass roof. best body style imo. id love to drive one of these one day
I totally agree with you!
I have a 2012 I bought for 4k its so nice
Definitely the best body style imo as well, just so beautiful and really matches a mustang for sure
I love my 2013 GT500. We brought it to Germany and it loves the autobahn. Very few cars can keep up but now I generally cruise between 100-150 MPH. Even now it is strange to pass the Polizei. Great review!
Lucky, I got this monster in my castrate and I can barely take in out of 4th evan on the freeway it catches up real quick with the guy on the fast lane and he's going fast. I just got a 2010 and it's fast well I did add a few things😅
@MsMatt069 MAN I HAVE A 08 GT500 AND MY 07 SHELBY GT AND MY 07 427 EDITION CONVERTIBLE SUPER SNAKE AND MY 2010 KENNY BELL GRABBER BLUE COUPE SUPER SNAKE AND I DON'T KNOW WHY THE 2010 GT500 GET SO MUCH HATE AND HONESTLY MY 10 SS IS A AWSOME BADASS FAST CAR THAT JUST LOOKS AMAZING BUT MY FAVORITE BODY STYLE IS MY 08 GT500 AND MY 07 427 EDITION CONVERTIBLE SUPER SNAKE AND I PLAN ON BUYING ANOTHER SUPER SNAKE 07 09 COUPE SUPER SNAKE WITH THE 427 PACKAGE LIKE MY CONVERTIBLE AND SEND IT TO SHELBY AMERICAN TOO HAVE THE 3.6 KENNY BELL BLOWER AND THE HOLE SHOT PACKAGE SO AT THAT TIME IT WILL HAVE OVER 1000HP AND HONESTLY MY COUPE SUPER SNAKE MAKES ALMOST 800HP AT THE TIRE AND IT'S STUPID FAST BUT WITH THE HOLE SHOT PACKAGE IT WILL HAVE 200HP MORE AND THAT WILL BE A SICK CAR AND IT WILL JUST ADD TOO THE VALUE OF A SUPER SNAKE.
I just love how much he’s having fun driving this beast.
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
My son bought the 2014 in 2013, but he lives in Georgia so the car has been in my garage in Vegas from basically day 1. We changed out the tires in 2019 with about 7,000 miles on it and it made a world of difference. So fun to drive and it is the grey with black racing stripes. Talking about a head turner.
Picture?
What tires did you go with?
15 mpg/city?
24 mpg/highway?
For a big supercharged V8, that's actually really damn good!
More like 12 city but on the freeway is pretty good
@@Championedd not bad tbh, I'm averaging 13.5 on my 4.6L GT so yeah
8mpg on E85. Lol
@@matthewmcmahon1541 WTH uses E85? I sure as hell don't.
@@effend446 you ever run Texas streets? Everyone is on E85 swaps.
This era of Mustang is my favorite. I don’t have the gt I have the v6 premium, but this era of Mustang is just so badass. Muscle, sleek and aggressive. And they’re so modifiable. I loooove these cars so much
People bash the V6 and honestly it’s damn fast for what it is. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Nice review, Joe. My dream car for a long time, so I bought the ‘14 white with blue stripes with all the bells and whistles to include the glass roof. You hit the nail on the head. Mickey Thompson street slicks and a small intake upgrade to remove silencer (yep!) really transformed this beast...Nothing but traction and blower whine! The rear headrests fold down too. I eat my twinkies and enjoy my IPAs for hours while looking at the masterpiece under the hood.
Great review, Joe, and a beast of a car. FYI, 2010-2014 Mustang back seat head-rests can fold down, making visibility out of the back excellent. So there should be no zonk for that. :-)
Haha I was thinking of that. Remove that zonk.
Great review! The '13/14 GT-500s will be sought after down the road...similar to the '03/04 Terminators.
Nice. Very nice
Literally both my dream cars
@@kepo-le3ed it's funny I've always been a mustang gt guy. The gt500 is a whole different animal. Get one live your dream.
Don't forget the 12, and 13 Boss 302s.
Love the small history lessons throughout the review! Man this car is a beast! Owners: please take care of it! Takes a real good driver to be behind the wheel of one of these. The 13-14 body style to me is perfect! I’ll one day own either this same Shelby with Recaro seats or a 13 Boss 302 Laguna Seca in black
Just 1 min into the video and want to say this is my favorite Shelby year. Well actually the 2013 but they are the same thing. It may not be the most sophisticated but at least it was just below or at 60k for 662hp and 200mph. That is value.

"What a wonderful way to die"
🤣🤣 good one joe
Thanks man for letting me share some laughs!
@Mason Bell you are the man!
This car will forever hold its value! because it was the car/gen that Carol Shelby had to do with it. Love this Gen.
Awesome car. Miss this style. Like it better than the new ones. Can’t really knock its faults compared to a new one. 2014 tech vs 2020. Big difference. The difference is independent rear suspension. Ford went as far as they could w the solid rear axle Great video sir
So awesome you were able to find this car. I remember you saying on one of your comments (paraphrasing) that these are hard to find
"You're gonna bust cream all over this in interior" No chill
Twinkie cream brother! Lol
Glad somebody got that joke!
Ahh this guy and his sexual jokes🖐🏿🤦🏿♂️
More like sperm cream
Just watching this Video is making me bust cream all over my interior!🤘
This one is the best generation in my opinion. The styling is just iconic that it has the classic characteristics on it. Don't get me wrong I do love the current GT500 but this one is arguably the best evolution ever after the classic GT500
This car honestly just needs Independent Rear Suspension and it’s set
This is very true!
its better to have a solid rear diff, this gen of gt500 is mainly a straight line car. solid rear end is better for power upgrades.
@Andrew V if you want handling then this isnt the car to buy. aside from a solid rear end, the car weighs over 4 thousand pounds. this gen gt500 shines best when used as a drag racing platform. if you want a car from this generation with power and better handling then get a c6 zo6 for about the same price. obviously independent rear suspension would be better for handling, but with that solid rear end youve got a more reliable setup for drag racing.
@@wholesome4028 Does not weight over 4000 lbs, nor does it weight 4000 lbs.
Na.... straight line baby
Still such a gorgeous body style and that's one of the best versions of it. It would whine *plenty* with a smaller pulley and a sound tube!
I can’t believe that’s the first 2014 GT500 you’ve driven.... that things is a BEAST.... if I was picking I’d get that one for sure!!! It has more of the retro look AND the hp is CRAZY!!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Looks like you had a BLAST!!!!!!
Great review as always! Love your content, almost bought a 350r from your review but ended up with a 2014 GT500 vert. The supercharger was the big selling point. And I hate that the 2020 Gt500s are autos. Love seeing you do throwback videos like this. Would love to see you do one on the FJ cruiser, 2014, last year of production. I own one of those as well. Keep up the great work!
Same, was looking back in 19 at a 350R but found a 14 vert with 4000 miles on it. Still have a smile on my face
Kick ass reviews! You’re getting big man! Keep up the good work!
Than brother for having my back and being so supportive!
Wow! It’s not even broken in well yet. Someone’s gonna get an awesome car and save some money over a new one. Especially if you like a manual trans. Thanks for the ride Joe. Nice job! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
You are so very right Larry!
Love my recent 2012 purchase with only 7600 miles when I picked it up this past December. 2nd gear = no traction but new tires will be on order soon. Definitely smiles per gallon driving a Shelby GT500 with that crisp 6 speed manual!
Hey Joe, I love your videos! Keep up the awesome work, as your passion and enthusiasm for cars really shines! One request: I’m a station wagon lover, and would LOVE LOVE LOVE if you reviewed the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, as this wagon is seldom, if ever seen or talked about.
Be thankful all you Hellcat fans. This is the car that started the horse power wars! Your welcome!!!
I own this car and love it. Personally, I think the terminator started the war!
Great review Joe! Love the look of this one, stripe delete cars are so much sexier. This video shows me exactly why I will never own one of those. It is a dangerous car when you try and push it, even with good tires! There is a reason you see so many Mustang crash videos. I've had a Challenger in the past and now have a '12 Mustang GT (with less miles than your feature car). The Challenger was such an easy car to drive fast, the Mustang is an unpredictable car to drive fast...it DEMANDS your respect! Also, it has 2 antennas because the one on the quarter is the AM-FM, the flat one on the deck lid was added on for the satellite radio (not standard in 2014).
Thanks for letting me share it with you Jack and thanks for your great input!
Never gets old I'd take that over any muscle car
Nice man!
Same with me

@@RaitisRides In my opinion the first year Carroll came back 07 they have come down on the prices but in the future they will rise in value. Now as for a 07 SUPER SNAKE back in 07 big money. They were marking them up 20 25 grand I didn't agree with that. Now as for my 07 427 convertible super snake. They built 44 convertibles and just 7 in my color torch red and signed by Shelby. The car has 3 build numbers one as a 07 convertible 2 as a super snake and 3 with the rare 427 package.Think of it like this they built 562 65 GT350s and there a half a million dollars. So 562 vs 178 car's with the 427 package all signed by Shelby but just 44 convertibles and 1 of 7 in my color torch red.So 562 vs 178.Not even half. Also my 07 427 super snake has 850miles on the car.Its like money in the bank.I bought it back in 14 and its held all it's value period.
As iconic the Shelby is ... I rather take the demon over the Shelby
Like your videos. You seem to know what you're talking about as opposed to other videos I've watched. Rabid car guy here. I've driven V8 Stangs for more than 20 years as my daily driver 🙂 I owned a 2011 Shelby, took delivery in November 2010. Hell of a car. When Ford announced the 5.8 liter I was ticked off! Keep up the great work. This video has special interest for me as I'll be buying a low mileage 2014 soon. The 2020 is too expensive & no manual. Yuck.
This car is fit for a daredevil...it is just RAW..OUT OF CONTROL...love that it has a manual. One really needs to know how to really drive to get behind the wheel of this one... nice video JOE...shout out to Lori with the camera
You are so very right about that man! Thanks for giving Lori a shout out!
I have the 2013 GT500 SVT 20th Anniversary has 13000 miles on it. Its not my daily driver obviously. Ill never sell it. The power is insane. I drove a 2020 Shelby no thanks. Good video! Price is totally fair for the insane power. Tires don't matter unless you run slicks, I've tried 3 different brands and cant get traction unless its hot outside and even then they slip.
Thanks for sharing that great input from your experience!
A legacy car. Leaving it for my boy. And it’s a great daily driver for me April - October. You need top end tires for grip.
MAN I HAVE 2 SUPER SNAKES AND MY 08 GT500 THAT HAS 850HP AND MY SUPER SNAKES ALSO HAVE A LOT OF POWER AND GETTING TRACTION WAS MY BIGGEST PROBLEM BUT I HAD MY RIMS CUT AND 2 INCHES ADDED AND A REALLY STICKY TIRE AND ALL 3 REALLY HOOK A LOT BETTER AND DO I THINK THEY WILL EVER HOOK 100 PERCENT ON THE STREET LOL NO BUT MY CONVERTIBLE SUPER SNAKE HAS ROUGHLY 650HP AND MY GT500 HAS 850HP AND MY GRABBER BLUE COUPE SUPER SNAKE HAS OVER 900HP AND WITH THOSE KIND OF NUMBERS IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO HOOK 100 PERCENT ON A NON PREPPED SURFACE.
Reeves Subaru on Top of the Game with awesome rides...Joe that is one badass Shelby Cobra that STINGS....True Brute USA Muscle Car....so Classic so Iconic! Joe and Lori you did justice to this sexy beast. Salute!

Spot on, on the tires. Those stock Eagle f1 are trash unless you get them really warm. I put pilot sport 4's on my '13 GT 500 and it transformed the car. I've thought about upgrading to the new GT 500, but my 13 is still so much fun after all these years, I cant part ways with it. The 13-14 GT 500 is the guy in the bar you don't mess with.

I've been waiting for one of these on the channel!! This video was so great, such a special car!!!
I am so glad that I could finally bring it to you!
YES IT IS! This is my best friend's dream car! Currently he's rocking the 2008 Mustang GT.
That is really cool!
This is the appropriate updated version of the mustang. The 2015 refresh to me was overkill although the look has grown on me. This version still looks like the mustang we all grew up with but more modern. I had a 2013 (not a 500) and loved it. It was great to see this car.
Lorie did good cameras tracking in and out while you show case the exterior. Her reflection was minimal - hard to accomplish due to the gloss black. Smooth, keep up the good work.
Something About That Squared Muscular Aggressive Look. S197 The Best Bodystyle For The Mustang
This is THE GT500 I still want did a whole class project on the s197 version and still plan on getting it
Hi Zonkman! Love this car and although it's a 7 year old car it drives like none other but perfection will never exist. Love the 6-speed manual because you don't have to wait for the transmission to change automatically from one Gear to the next because it's a 0 speed Automatic transmission. You have to shift yourself, the car will not do it for you.
Good call man!
Thank you Zonkman, if you were to drive another car like this, will you share what I had said to you? That's a tip from me to you Zonkman. To really drive the point home you're really going to do the shifting yourself, the car won't shift for you automatically. There's no drive, neutral, reverse or park.
The Mercedes rocks!
Love the videos man, I’ve watched a good amount of them. I’m currently in the market for a Mustang can’t decide on buying a 19-20 mustang with all the options or a GT500 around this year
Do you want a car that is more refined and fancy interior better handling and mpg or do you want a raw beast of a car that is unique and more suited for straight line stuff and has a more old school muscle car look sound and feel? These are more like old school muscle cars the s550 is more like a sports car. Both great but very different. I promise you at the gas station these are gonna get 10x more people go gocking at it and asking about it and taking photos vs a dime a dozen s550. It's your call but I know which one I would rather have that is why I have an 07 gt500. They're even more raw than these are and just as capable when modded.
Hi Joe
Been watching your channel for a long time and finally bought a car you might want to showcase
( haven’t seen showed yet)
I just bought a 2008 gt500kr
Colorado red
With 800 miles
I would like to showcase this beautiful car on your channel if you interested.
Thanks for all your videos
Very professional and informative with a great sense of humor when you drive them.
Isn't it amazing, how Joe is not only devoted to making great videos, but spends in lots of time answering comments? He's my hero and favorite car video host. I watched Raiti's Rides all week and wanted to buy a couple cars, The mazda 6 carbon edition and the K5 GT. I went to the car wash today and had my 17 accord V6 washed and polished. Hey Joe, there's requests for the ninth generation accord videos. Maybe you can do one with my car: 2017 accord V6 touring black on black?
I only have 26K miles
I was 8 when I saw my first Mustang in 2010. And it’s something really close to my heart and always will be. And as always rest in speed Shelby. You will always be remembered.
I brought a 2014 Super Snake I have to admit it's the dream car!
I replaced two of your Zonks, changed the license late panel to carbon and added hood gas struts to get rid of the ugly prop.
Another zonked removed it the Kenne Bell the Super Snake has whines the second you turn it on.
It's one hell of a car for sure, your reaction to "on throttle" is how I feel every time, you need to get your hands on a 2014 SS and see how they compare.
Joe you know we love Mustang just nailed again!
I am so glad that I can bring this one to you!
There is a intake muffler that keeps the whine. If you replace the intake with a jlt 123mm intake you will hear the supercharger whine.
A year ago we moved back to the Tampa, FL after 6+ years in Germany. We took our 2013 GT500 and it was a blast to drive her the way she was intended on the autobahns. Mine was modified a bit, so going over 200 mph was very easy to do, but I only did that about 8 to 10 times. On average I did 120 to 160 mph when I could. There is a lot of road construction and they have slow down areas of 60/70 mph. There's been a movement to get rid of the unlimited speeds and have a EU speed of 120 kph or 72 mph. Hopefully that day will never come.
Love the GT500 reviews. I’ve got a ‘13 Shelby convertible and it is awesome!!! Goes like hell!! Only zonk on this particular car are the seats: needs Recaros. But the Performance Package is boss! The interior is throwback retro. Cue ball knob is so cool. Let’s be clear: you buy this car for the smiles to the Ken Miles!!!
Theres actually some pretty good deals for these things used, im more of a truck guy but man, this is tempting!
You are so very right John!
Had a 2014 GT and I lusted after one of these bad boys so much. One thing I think I would change is give this monster 3.73 gears instead of the 3.31 it has. Otherwise, it’s perfect.
Absolute diamond you found here. Amazingly low mileage. Yes!! I'd take this for the $$$ over a new GT500.
I have a 2013 gt500 same color as the one you are in. People dont understand how quik the car is until they ride in it. Stock tires suck for sure. Nittos work well for me. That third gear pull you were doing puts you back in your seat so hard once you get up in speed. Pulls to 135mph. Ha. And it's pull is crazy hard on the way. Like a dream.
God the 13-14 mustang gt/500s are so good looking from factory man not even counting the aftermarket appearance mods that people do to em!
My dream car from ford: i remember having a bedroom poster of this car, even though i never driven this i got alot of respect for it, plus the last live rear axle mustang, from how this car looks as well as sound you can tell it instantly means business from the get go.
The s197 gt500 platform is just something out of this world, that makes this generation mustang looks good as well as cleaner, plus the manual as well gives you full control of the car: driver & machine that what this car is all about.
Joe I believe that bumper spot is meant to accommodate a European insert for euro plates. That's what I was told; even though they didn't sell alot of these outside the states, it was easier to swap the plastic insert than a new bumper.
I think they should have a unique to region of the world lower bumper area.
@@RaitisRides I couldn't agree more but we both well know how the accounting department would feel about that 😄
Still very relevant today and with a pulley swap and tune another 35-40 horses is easily reached. Love your enthusiasm Joe, 13' and 14's have the best lines, jmo.
Damn thats a great price for all that you get, and waay low mileage. Pretty sweet.
Tell me about it! I was very tempted.
Let me put it this way Joe, you don't need a door pocket full of twinkies to bust cream all over that interior. That thing delivers unlimited smiles per gallon 😃 Great review brother! Looks like you had a blast! 🤙🏻🤙🏻

I have a 2014 GT500. I ordered it new in 2014. I absolutely love my car. It is such a hoot to drive!! If you get this car, get upgraded poly bushing upper and lower control arms as well as panhard bar. Wider wheels with 315mm in the rear is also a must. Getting the car to 800 bhp is not tough. Lower OD pulley, air intake, throttle body, tune and LT headers. Switching to 3.73 gears is also recommended 👌
Just love a GT500. This one is gonzo, which is perfect for the last iteration of that generation. Thank you so much for the work on all the videos, Lori!
I'm sure buried in the comments you will find a similar comment, but the headrests in the back seat fold down, so nothing to zonk there. Traction is solved with PS4S tires (wider will also help). Supercharger whine shows its venom in the upper RPMs and is very audible at that point a la "I Am Legend". Great review, keep 'em coming. I personally opted to buy a 14 GT500 in 2019 after test driving the 2020 GT500 at the Ford Performance Vegas event, but they are both fun cars. BUT, I will say, the 14 GT500 wants to kill you everyday, which in the end is what I love about it. Respect!
Thanks for sharing that great input!
It’s beautiful. I have a 2013 GT performance pack. Love the body style
I am so glad that I could bring it to you Tony!

This looks identical to my 2014 GT500, I even have the factory stripe delete like this. Mine has 7,500 miles. Love the car!
Hey Joe! I think that was the best GT 500 Ford ever made, it looks fast sitten still. By the way, was the traction control on? Scarrry! 😎😈👍
I am so glad that you like this one David! Traction control was on. 😳
Awesome awesome review Joe! How tempted were you to take it off the lot with you and trade your current 'stang?
I was tempted but still love my GT350R more. Now to add it to the garage would be a dream!
By far my favorite Shelby GT500. These Trinity motors hit SO HARD with just a few mods and were bespoke to this car. I have a couple videos on my channel of modded ones and they make SO MUCH TORQUE and sound so dang good that you just can't beat the visceral driving experience! Are they perfect? By no means, but for me, they're a special, special car.
16:55 Joe the headrests in the back fold down for a seamless view out the rear window
Thanks for that heats up!
christ, this is possibly one of the greatest sounding V8's of all time.
I totally agree with you Alex!
Loving the GT500. Always special.
The head rest fold down in the rear and if you option the ricaro front buckets are soft and really plants you in the seats. And if it’s 80 degrees the tires will hook just fine when the temp is right then tires are fine
I have a 22' GT 6-speed ordered. Test drove one. They're great. But they're not *quite* as sexy as the S197s were in my book, especially the Shelbys. What an awesome car.
Hey I’m a huge fan of your channel and I wanted to ask you a question about this video you posted. So since you are in the car business I wanted to ask what’s a fair price to pay for this car today ? If you could help me out I’d appreciate it also I currently have a s197 myself and in. My opinion this body style is way better than the s550 ones . Thanks again all the way from California!!!!!! Great vid man !!!👍🙏💪🏼
I agree with you as well. I'm currently looking for either a 2014 gt with very low miles or saving up a bit more and get a 2014 gt500. I love this body style over the newer ones. In my opinion I believe 50-55k os fair to pay for a beast of a car. Been looking for one in black but here in Cali it's hard to find one with less than 10k miles.
