The M4A1 S has an absurdly thin charging handle without the latch. Because of that, you have a mobility advantage over the M4A4. However, the M4A1 S' selector switch is stuck on safe. Therefore, it wouldn't fire. Whereas the M4A4 is on Auto, and will fire. Seems like a tie to me.
EDIT 9/27/23: Thanks to the full release of CS2, Valve actually fixed the M4A1 S model by having the fire selector in the auto position, and gave it a proper charging handle. Therefore, rendering this entire comment null and void

I havent been around the community for all 13 years, but I feel like I can still say this is the best balancing of these 2 weapons in its history.
I am playing since launch and find both weapons in a good spot atm. both have their own qualities an non is OP.

m4a1-s because better for eco. unless they lower the price of the m4a4, i will probably not switch anytime soon.
I've always prefered the M4A4 due to having more ammo and a spray pattern similar to the AK-47, which helps with consistency, but I was forced to use the M4A1-S due to it clearly being the better option in all categories. Now I can move back without worrying about being at a severe disadvantage.

As a person who likes to showcase how many hours I’ve put in the game I love full spraying or spray transfer so I could show the light for any valorant gamers that the gunplay in csgo is superior. I dnt got nutty aim like valorant players but best believe I can stop a push pretty well.
I believe that by nerfing the A1S Valve have accidentally made the AUG overpowered once again. It's now in my opinion the optimal strategy to use the A1S when you're playing close range angles and/or are short on cash, and the AUG when you're ahead or you're playing a long range position such as A long on overpass.
The AUG still puts both the M4s to shame with its superior stats. It's the only CT rifle that can onetap helmeted oponents

@@TheWarOwl noticed this as well, USP just seems more accurate to me even though there's barely any stat differences to the P2000 because of the sound.
@@TheWarOwl nah I feel the same way but it's not because of the sound effect it's because of the cost. If I push and die I can still buy it at the next round whereas with the a4 i find myself falling short of the purchase price by couple 100 dollars.
For me the slower fire rate helps. It just feels precise. But ig that's because I got used to slow fire rate high power weapons in other fps games. If I want high fire rate I might as well take the skill90 (I play better with it than the m4a4).

@@tappajaav Even in Cs 1.6 the m4 with and without silencer is different. My point is, why did Valve have to change something in CS 1.6 to CSGO something that didn't need to be fixed? They never changed the tactics for Ts AK-47. It always was one fcking gun. Why two different m4s for the CTs, that too can't be changed in game? Dick move by Valve, I repeat.

I have been using the SG since I started playing the game, it was ultra-accurate, it had good firing speed, good recoil, had a scope for long range engagements... Now it's less accurate and fires slower than any rifle in the game. I don't want it to be overpowered, I just want them to make it an alternative to an AK again.
Don't hold your breath. Valve balance updated the Left 4 Dead 2 version of the SIG 556 before the CSGO one, literally lol

Switched to a4 after the a1-s nerf… and I’m back to a1-s. It’s the difference in price that’s most noticeable. Also the aug fills the same shoes and comes with a scope. A bit more but the ct rifle options are better with the a1-s selected
I like that some of the statistical differences between the two rifles reflect their real life properties. The M4A1-S is presumably using subsonic rounds, which have less gas pressure, meaning a lower cyclical rate. Also, since they're traveling slower, there is less of a chance of overpenetration against a target, which translates to more close-range damage
if real life had anything to do with it, the A1-S would rarely cycle, because subsonic 5.56 doesn't really place nicely with anything but bolt guns lol

I think as a bombsite anchor it's more advantageous to use the M4A4 to counter rushes or fast pushes
Depends on the site, still. On A mirage as the CT anchor I wouldn't use an A4, seeing as the range you're fighting at is long and you will often be shooting through or over smokes.
Pretty much... The price difference isn't the deal maker, it's the TEN less bullets in a mag. How often on CT do you get nice and handy 1v1 fights? Better teams execute fast and hard. You need the extra bullets so you aren't forced to reload in such scenarios, and having those extra bullets makes you less conservative with your pre-fire's and transfers.
The price difference is huge to the point I'd pick the A1 every time on T side. But on CT, the playstyle doesn't benefit the M4A1s unless you have a five man and they're fine with you always playing like an idiot.

@Pagatryx I don't think that's even true. If you're playing on CT and you are taking fights that involve multiple people multiple times as the execute happens, you're playing it wrong. You play for the retake if you play ct, so you definitely shouldn't ever be in thats situation.

@@lemontaingaming4095 I really have no problems hitting double headshots or a 3rd bullet. Again, it is also about being able to spam - or to hit 5 bullets consistently on a body if you miss the head. It's just easier to use at range.

I've been switching them since I can remember. First I started with the m4a4 cuz I didn't know anything, then I used the m4a1-s because it was easier to shoot and I was a noob. Then I learned to play the m4a4 and it felt better to me for some reason and I really liked the bigger mag size. Then I switched to m4a1-s because it was objectively better and then it got nerfed so I switched to m4a4 again. Now I'm back to m4a1's because I can buy it more often since it has a lower price and even if I had money for the m4a4 an extra flashbang would be nicer than a few bullets in the mag that you may not even use.

As someone who plays with friends in low gold/high silver, the a4 is definitely the way to go. It's too often that the entire T side pushes the site while the rest of my team is off on the opposite side of the map, and the a1s just doesn't have the bullets needed to spray the whole team down.

I’ve always been an A1S user until recently. I play so much better with the A4 and it has a similar pattern to the AK so I feel much more consistent now. I think having more ammo increases confidence too even though most of the time that extra ammo isn’t needed. I’m really surprised I like the a4 better now
The a4 actually has the same pattern as the a1, the only thing thats different is the fire rate and the recovery time between shots, which is what makes the spray less accurate overall.

Used a1s for most of my playtime, but been using a4 more lately as I often find myself appreciating the extra bullets. I got several 3-4k on a single mag while solo holding a site where I'd run out of shots after the second kill using a1s.
I do like a1s a lot more, since its more accurate for an average player like me, and suppressor is useful for getting long range kills, without revealing position.., (I am not a prime player, so casual mode/comp mode with bots, just to understand economy), but i just equipped a4 for most of the time, just so that, i won't find it hard to use.
We probably don't need to learn spray pattern for a1s, unlike the a4.

@@lartonki "chosing" a certain weapon is a fun side for the game . In that case .. why even bother having two M4s in the gun ? Just keep one of them .
But I'd say the most important thing is it'll make the CT side stronger .. and that shouldn't happen .
Why ? Because if you have even a basic understanding of military thinking .. it says the defender side is already in an advantage simply because they are defending .. "cover" is their weapon . So CT guns shouldn't be too powerful . The T side need more powerful guns and utilities because they have to take risk and push through .
This was evident in many recent matches after the M4a1s damage update .. CTs were destroying the T side .
It is good for the game that the CT rifles are less powerful and more costly .

@@rahatzaman8120 Well even if they would make able to choose between both m4 ct side wouldnt be nearly as strong than it was before 1s nerf. And i think it wouldnt really effect that mutch on pro games but would be usefull on mm games where playing with randoms where you cant allways play where you want so you would at least choose m4 fitting better on your position that you will end up playing.

Now it seems like you can use both M4A1 as well as M4A4 in the same game.. the loadout menu in Counter-Strike 2 has indeed changed and you can equip any 5 rifles in the buy menu loadout., which means, we can even replace aug or Scar-20 if we might not use them much; with the main rifles we use. just amazing..
I have m4a1s equipped because I'm so bad at this game I have to use a gun with a handicap :)
btw I like that u use mirage now, since it's a "new dust2" in terms of a percentage of a player base that mains only this one map :)

If im playing support or awp i use a1s for price
If im rifle or anchor i use a4 (mostly) because of faster fire rate and more ammo.
However i always use the a1s on Vertigo and ancient because of wallbangs and smoke spams.
If im playing pit on inferno i use a1s for 1 ways.
Anubis i usually go a4. Idk why.

I have been going back and forth. It is hard to decide but I think the price of the A1-s is the deciding factor for me.
I wanna say M4A1S solely because the price is so much more flexible.. but goddamn the M4A4 just FEELS so much better to use.
To me, the mag size reduction was the biggest problematic for the previous M4-s. My playing style prefers having more ammo in the mag as I shoot a lot through walls, prefire, and miss a lot.

I once removed the suppressor of the A1S and it felt really unnatural, like I bugged the gun
unfortunately the reworked sound of the a1s is so unpleasant for me that whenever I get an a1 over an a4 as a drop the first thing I do is take the silencer off, it's outright unusable for me due to the sound lmao

I also go with the m4a1-s and aug. The m4a4 is sort of a middle ground to the aug and the m4a1 but in a bad way imo. The aug is better at all ranges because it can one shot headshot at very close distance, and also 4 shot to the chest at very close distance. It is obviously superior at longer distances as well so if you can afford the aug then it should be the clear choice.

I used to use the A1-S because it's cheaper, funny smoke kills, and because anyone will drop either M4 for an AK, but it's just too weak after the range nerf. I'm relying on other guns on CT side now.
If I need a good and expedient assault rifle on CT, then I'll pay the extra money for the M4A4.
I remember watching your SG553 video and thinking, "I (instinctively) knew it was better, nice data to back up my choice." Somehow I left the game after it was nerfed, never had made the connection that you may have ruined it for me. Few people knew the recoil pattern and it was rarely picked up when dropped, it was full of advantages.
Just make a video and say the SG553 is way to nerfed, it will be a nice comeback for me, along with the Source 2 update. :))

Personally even after the nerf, the A1-S is still a lazer, I have no trouble killing enemies from Window to Top mid this has earned me the name "Budget AWPer" because of how I have taken down AWPers many times with the A1-S, I find the A4 to be weaker and less of a lazer, I never went to the A4 I only switched because I wanted to try it out and see, it did not go well.
I always called my friend a Psychopath because the one game I caught him taking the suppressor off EVERY single M4A1-S that he found, like who does that!?
I just keep a4, to get used to the playstyle of it, otherwise a1s is mostly what i would prefer, if i played comp.
The first time i used a1s, i never felt it harder to use, unlike a4., although, both are great in their own ways.

the higher base damage is honestly the best reason to use the m4a1. 4 shots to the body vs 5 is honestly huge, and at $2900... It's so OP close to mid range.
So yeah
As i tested, the m4a1-s without silencer gets better to cqb confrontation with the peek shots (you walk to the side but stop your character and shot fastly backing to cover, during that stop all the guns recover accuracy) but worse for long confrontations in which you stand more still, same way on usp, it’s a beast for peeks and cqb confrontations where you need to move more, the move innacuracy penalty hits less as long you do the little stops I mentioned! accuracy gets so, so high that is easy for one tap in the peeks/stops
Now, if you don’t quite feel you will need move much or do peeks, keep the silencer in both
M4a4 is excellent for baits and at least medium distance if you ever manage to control high recoil, it’s not hard but still not practical and someone with ak would do a easier spray on you, but in this case about stand still, you need chose your poison
Little shots with m4a1-s to avoid early accuracy degradation (literally 5 shots the spread is noticeable) while m4a4 more or less spread at 10 shots, it means the spray transfer is easier and if you miss the first shots, you have chance
I nowdays use m4a1-s by silenced advantages and also cause i want to learn movements better and have more discipline
I just want Valve to make them take up different slots. Let all the CT rifles share slots so I can un-equip FAMAS (it’s hot ass) and replace it with A1-S. I don’t have a consistent stack so I swap roles a lot and it would be nice to have all my choices available to me in game, rather than having to think ahead and swap rifles.

I always used M4A1-S and not switching back to m4a4. The reason why I use M4A1-S is because I like to push and flank and overall I like 1-way smokes where they can't hear or see me shooting at them. So personally it fits my style of playing. Also if you flank some one from behind on dust or which ever map you notice that silence can realy helpe shooting them in the back before they realize some one is there. Like I said it just fits my style of playing.
Finally the OG csgo tips videos are back.
I switch between them depending on my mood, map etc. I hope we would have option to choose between them on every round.

I think the A1-S is better overall for new players. It does slightly more damage at close range, and because it has less recoil and spread, you'll be more likely to actually hit your shots at long range. And then you have the benefits of the suppressor, on top of that.

I miss the scoped rifles. I never really tested them myself but I remember back then checking the stats and realizing the SG was just a drastically superior AK for just 200 extra dollars.
Meanwhile, here, people still chooses a minorly superior M4 for the same price.
What I'm sad about is how dependant most players are depending on the pro scene. Lots of people won't test things themselves and create their own personal playstyle and set of rules, they keep trying to act like something they're generally not.
The ammount of times I've seen people complaining about my SGs and AUGs back then was astronomical, till I showed them their potential.
I'm still mad that Valve had to force the pros down that path as well, I expected at least them to actually consider these weapons as well, but no...
It's safe to say people won't try new things unless they're very clearly a better choice. Back then you always had the choices right there, you could check the stats, do a few spray tests in Casual and realize how powerful these rifles were.
I appreciate this video even though I've been away from CSGO for ages now, but I really wish people would check it out themselves. Imagine how much better and varied matches could be if people spent some time trying to be comfortable with their own choices and not trying to be a clone of someone else.
All things said, M4A1 gang, fuck the Silencer, listen to those sexy M4A1 screams, all worth the countless deaths you'll get for it.

At a somewhat low level the suppressor makes a massive difference. Comms aren't perfect by any means in mm and faceit so not having your exact position be revealed is an advantage and those 180 flick ak shots happen almost never using the A1-s
TBF I always loved the SG556 and I always played in a stack. When I saw pros start using I knew it's time had come. Now we have an absolute abortion for it's nerf. Now I just run an AK or steal an AUG. My top 3 hated nerfs are Deagle, Awp magazine, SG in that order.
I normally play office and on CT side the awp with the magazine nerf has defiantly changed positioning more so than probably any other map. Before once you took fountain you could hold your own doing paper and T spawn connector wall bangs while still leaving ammo left over for aggressive players pushing out of paper. Now you have to be extremely cautious of them waiting for a reload where they'll normally sprint out paper to try and take you. This is solved by having a extra CT with you covering. But that loses 1 person for long pushes if there is a hostage there.
Maybe a stupid game changing suggestion, but try to think about it. What if the pistol draw time gets decreased so you would be able to utilize quick gun change when you run out of your ammo? I always feel like it almost doesn't matter if I reload or switch to sidearm because the times are so similar. I know it's still a bit faster to draw sidearm, but I would like to see what would happen if it would be even faster. Would it make me use the pistols more? And reload less?
If only the Valve let us choose between both weapons in the buy menu. But that would make too much sense.

I was playing with M4A4 for quite some time , then i decided to switch to M4A1-S , i am a guy who sprays in the smokes and getting kills a lot like A LOT , on Mirage i love playing catwalk support , and i got one way kind of smoke where i can see people who go to connector , chair and right side of top mid boxes . M4A1-S gives me huge advantage here since they cant see my tracers and probably cant even hear where I'm shooting from since they are focused on the guy in window or connector. I have to be precise tho! having 20 bullets means burst in the head ONLY in situations like that , i mostly get 1 to 3 kills with that smoke, M4A1-S for me is the go! ( Also cheap skin craft that i made and it looks so satisfying using it! ( M4A1-S Nitro + 3 or 4 Obey SAS stickers ) it looks pretty yummy ( i use 3 stickers ) , this will cost you around 2-3 dollars if you are looking for high float FT.
I've been using the M4, but the only times I've used the A1-S was because of its price.
A1-S should be OP'd again and exchange prices with the M4.

No money = Deagle
I have money = MP9
I have way too much money = AWP

I haven't been on the scene long enough (less than 2 years) but you are hilarous and smart at the same time. I don't understand how you haven't joined any of the casters at ESL / Blast so far. You totally have the voice and experience to do so it seems
I usually play short matches so A1s all the way. I tried the a4 but it just meant that if you're having a bad game you might only end up being able to buy 1-2 on the CT side... A1s being cheaper makes all the difference, plus it just shoots more accurately.
