Finally! A channel that reviews tamiya spray cans. Thank you so much for saving me money. New subscriber here. And i promise not to skip ads to return the favor. Thanks a lot again.
Your channel is a GODSEND! You’ve both SAVED me money on the WRONG products for my builds AND helped me SPEND money on the RIGHT products for my builds. Thank you for highlighting and testing great products. I would have never found these products without your well-produced and comprehensive videos.
Thank you buddy. I had a ton of paints come my way last year was curious as to how many of them looked once painted. I started to test them for myself then I realized other hobbyist would like to know the same and that's where the idea came from. I have enough here to do test for another year 😉
The Tamiya Metallics are great, and they're transparent enough to be affected greatly by base coat. I did some spoon tests on a few of them last year and the base coat does make a huge difference. As an example, I sprayed TS-18 Metallic Red and TS-51 Racing Blue over Testors Diamond Dust, Tamiya TS-42 Light Gun Metal, and Testors Blazing Black and the differences were fairly dramatic, with the colors getting deeper with the darker base coat. I'm loving your channel, and keep the paint tests coming!!
Great info. I love changing the base coats and primers for effects like that. I try to show a few in the videos. I've almost gathered up all the Tamiya Opaque Colors Spray cans for an upcoming test. Thanks for watching, I love hearing from my fellow hobbyist
This channel has become my first of the day. I'm getting back into building and your videos are great. Definitely makes me want to build again. Thank you
Merry Christmas! You have helped make the dumpster fire that was 2020 waaaay better. Thank you for all that you have given to our community by sharing your time and expertise with us!
I want to echo everyone else and thank you for your wide coverage of colors. I routinely reference your videos when deciding which colors I want to buy for my next kit!
what a wonderful study .. i learned a bunch and you helped me to really be confident about the colors for my new lunchbox .. too many good ones to choose from! thanks!
Thank you for this video! Choosing a paint color for an r/c is always a challenge but thanks to you,you helped me make a decision. TS92 is the my choice!
I gotta say, you spend a lot of money just to test out products so we don't waste our own money choosing the wrong brands. Thank you so much. Even if you don't use all of these colors, it's great to have them for when you need them in the future. You rock! Subscribed.
Excellent. I already had a few of these colors. Very excited to use them after seeing this. Will also be looking to get several other colors now. Thanks.
The interesting thing I found on the pearl white, the one I bought (from a full rack of the same paint #) was a metallic white. Which looked really nice. I am glad they corrected the problem. I was hopeing to have a demo on metallics on clear rc polycarbonate bodies. What would be the best back up color on each metallic. As you so nicely showed one might not need a back up color? Also when to mask and when masking is not needed. Over spray onto lighter colors. Either I was, not applying enough paint, or the can was too far away. The orange is a great looking color and it is not used enough. I sprayed a Corsair canopy with blue and it turned out gastly.
Thanks man for that ..saves me a heap of change ... going ts-45 as a backing via a ps-46 ....hears something that Micra red is a colour from the car back in the 90s nissian Micra
@@barbatosrex9473 sir i have a question, can i use this specifically the ts 20 for the mg blast impulse? Because some part its black and should be painted green, the color green of that matches with the ts 20 spray right? Or should i use the gundam marker instead?
Waiting to see a review of the non metallic colors, want to paint my 1/1 scale Haro but haven’t decided on what color because I know they’re different from the cap color
Phenomenal video! Just watched the Tamiya gold and silver video too. This helps a lot. I'm wanting to paint some gundam parts with Tamiya spray paints until I get an airbrush and these videos help a lot. Thanks!
Totally gonna get that pearl clear. One metallic colour you never see is purple, and I think that pearl clear will definitely make for a nice metallic colour when sprayed over a purple base.
Thanks so much for this comprehensive comparison. I have been trying to find the perfect blue to cover up the MGEX strike freedom's feet and dragoons, which have a shade of blue that a bit too primary for my tastes. i think the TS53 might be exactly what im looking for. Going to order one and try it on the runner.
This is a great video, and really useful for my channel! I pretty much exclusively use Tamiya rattle cans so this is a great comparison. I'll come back to this time and again when I'm thinking of getting a new shade. Cheers!
This is perfect since Im currently building the megasize unicorn. It is good to hear that this doesn't need primer and spray this all the way. But I don't know how much white 100ml can to finish the entire white pieces. I hope you can recommend. Thank you.
I'm new to the hobby and so far you're the best channel when it comes to RC paint thanks for what you're doing. I have a question I have a Kyosho NSR 500 RC motorcycle and it's dark gray to light gray parts should I use TS or FS. I don't have a lot of money to spend on all different paints but I want to go with the kill bill type theme of yellow and black on the motorcycle. Also it has a little clear visor then I would like to have a mirror black finish it doesn't have to I might just use what I have I have that duplicolor metallic chrome that I might use for the visor or some parts to make look chrome.
I have a question, and hopefully you do read your comments. First, thanks for this breakdown! I want to do a few projects with metallics and this video is perfect. However, I would like to know your opinion on a nice blue for Exia’s blue parts. I’d like to stick with the anime colors. What do you think of a metallic blue? Should I just take that pearl clear and spray over the original plastic? Also, if I picked the metallic blue, what process do you recommend? I am looking at Mr surface gloss black 1500-> metallic blue coat x2 -> gloss top coat, decal, then matte top coat. Thought?
Fantastic channel..so much information.. Keep up the great work.. Maybe shoot the Pearl clear over that red one. Looking forward to the Clear coat video. Merry Christmas.
Nice preview. I have only used the as12 aircraft aluminum. I have the Telefonica blue for a Tamiya model, but haven’t built. Looks worth using, but I’m afraid if I got started using them I would push my airbrush away.. thanks and happy holidays.
Awesome comparison of TS paint. Two things. One I'm looking at a light metallic blue for a BMW m635 CSI build. So your comparison really helps me with this decision making process. Also do you recommend decanting the metallics. I would guess that I'd have to shake the heck out of it to thoroughly mix metal flakes so that they are dispersed into the container. I want to airbrush these paints because I want to thin them slightly and apply multiple thin coats to build up a solid layer. What do you think. Also have you tried pledge future over these paints does it dry hard enough to be able to polish with the compounds and wax.
You sir are a genius! Thank you for this video showing all colors on white plastic spoon! I'm researching colors for a 1/8th scale truggy body with Washington Football Team colors. Burgundy & Gold... but Gold looks more yellowish, in my opinion.
Super video and very good Tamiya sprays. Great skills too, because it's not so easy to using spray can and achieve even glossy surface without over flooding in some areas. You spend a small fortune for this test buying this whole collection of mettalic :) Thank you for this video. Regards. Mike.
Hello. I love your channel. I need your professional opinion. I use mostly stainless steel earring posts and hooks. Sometimes cheap metal made to look like silver. I want them to look better with my colorful jewelry. Can I use this paint to make my jewelry hardware gorgeous? I need to stay on without flaking off as a woman puts the earrings on and off. My other concern is if it is safe to wear in the ear. If it isn't, what could I put over the paint to protect the wearer? Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for this! Kinda new to this and I was really curious as to how close all the colors are in comparison to the cap. Juat ordered a 94 NSX and I wanted to paint it the metallic orange. Wasn't sure how it would turn out tho. Thanks to you, I'm 100% now!
I know this video is old but I’m a first timer and I bought dark mica blue with Pearl clear just due to the fact that they didn’t have any gloss clear. Anywho, the more I think about it I believe it will bring out a nice finish if I can execute the paint job. Do you have any experience spraying clear Pearl over any metallics and how was your experience with that combo if so?
I’m very late so idk if you’ll respond but do you have any where you have a metallic blue base? I’m painting a zamak part and I’m wondering if I’d have to use a white base coat
great video i would like to see the pearl clear over a dark green ts9 or ts43 im looking at painting a couple of minis dark green metallic (unless you can recommend some thing better) the yellow ts97 looks like what im looking for to paint a ford gt from my understanding metallic has metal particles and mica and pearl have ceramic particles
That clear pear l is very interesting you can get a lot of content out of just that can there's a lot of interesting things it could probably do I would like to see more about it if you have the time.
I'm sold on the Tamiya metallics. They're incredible. Problem I have is I can't seem to find a metallic which closely resembles the shade of light blue silver metallic for a BMW M635csi build which I'm going to start soon. The official color is salmon silver metallic. If you can offer advice on how to mix ether Tamiya acrylic or TS paint (gonna decant these) I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm stuck. Thanks and really good informative video.
I saw the other video, You went light on the experimentation of BACK UP colors on clear color which is what I wanted to see to begin with. For example gold, silver, black and....... I need MORE. Appearenty I was usuing a transparent see below comment. Thank you for your endeavors.
I love watching your videos! Have you ever sprayed Tamiya Mica Blue spray can over Tamiya Black? I’m wondering what it would look like. The Mica Blue on the spoon is killer!
Really good comparison video, looking at trying a metallic for one of my future RC truck builds, would you recommend Tamiya TS for a clear flexible polycarbonate bodyshell?
Not these, you should use Tamiya PS spray Paints. They look exactly the same but are labeled PS instead of TS. They're made especially for RC flexible car bodies
Great video man! I’ve recently just sprayed Tamiya mica blue and it had a TON of orange peel come out in the paint. Had a bunch of those squiggly lines in the paint? Any ideas why it would do that? I’ve prepped the paint in the same way you mentioned in the video also.
I have to say that's never happened to me. It might actually be a bad can. If that's the only one it's happening with I would think it's bad. It's rare but it could happen
You need to see if you can get some e7 paint. USA gundam store sells them and eBay. It takes around a month to get to you but it’s supposedly as good as Gaia paint. I have some reds and blues on the way. Looks pretty nice.
Sure will. I'm going to do separate video test but I will do a comparison, I will more than likely do both test the same week for a quick comparison between them
34:16 About these larger size jars of Tamiya colors... what do you use to open these suckers? The Mr Hobby opener tool doesn't fit these things and I have a hell of a time opening them.
I love the blues I'm struggling with ideas to paint my RC motorcycle it's an X rider cafe racer and also has a rider on it that looks like an American guy I'm leading towards that TS54 light metallic blue I'm also leaning to make it look like metal like an aluminum gas tank and fairings I wonder what paint would make it look like real aluminum.
Thanks for the video I just picked up the metallic green and they’re light green and the candy green. I just painted a 4 runner Z body with the candy green it’s awesome did the top with a metallic black. I have another truck to paint I’m looking for a metallic copper color any suggestions? Thanks
*ts-85* i thought the same thing about it until i noticed that when you angle the light correctly it will do a 'flip' a bit like a candy paint and has a pink fleck through it. Similar too the way you see hotrods at a show and the paint looks like two different colours on the same car but its a flip affect. hope that makes sense slow brain today. jv.
hey the Tamiya TS-79 is a semi gloss, would mixing tamiya x-22 gloss with lets say 50& thinner make it semi-gloss? i seen a video of a dude using tamiya x-22 on its own and it was glosssssyyyy and it orange peeled. it looked terrible. he was doing experiments. but the x-22 thinned with lacquer or acrylic thinner looked nice and subtle. i just don't have an airbrush atm so I'm restoring to Tamiya spray cans
I picked up the Pearl ver. of Blue, Yellow and White to paint a gunpla for my Dad but I forgot to pick up a primer spray. Is it true that you don't need that for these colors?
Hey man I’m new to customizing, recently picked up a Bandai master grade Jesta and I’m hoping to customize one with white, red, and black colors. As much as I’d love to use air brushing it’s way to expensive for me so I’ve decided to use spray paints. Would you suggest using these pray paints or any other hobby spray paints that are easy go use and efficient. And another question, I’m supposed to prime the parts and then use 2-3 coats of spray paint correct?
I would use these paints as I believe they're the best spray cans on the market. You don't have to prime with these sprays at all. Your good to go. On a side note, check out my video on the portable airbrush with built in air compressor. It cost around $50 and performs great.

I have E7 paint 👍
Merry Christmas! For the Vallejo metalics, can you add the mecha metallics to compare with Vallejo air and game metalic?
Sure will. I'm going to do separate video test but I will do a comparison, I will more than likely do both test the same week for a quick comparison between them
Great video!! Any idea roughly how much area one can would cover? Enough for a helmet size?
Definitely enough for a helmet. Great paint
34:16 About these larger size jars of Tamiya colors... what do you use to open these suckers? The Mr Hobby opener tool doesn't fit these things and I have a hell of a time opening them.
We appreciate the awesome content.. thankyou
Thanks friend
I love the blues I'm struggling with ideas to paint my RC motorcycle it's an X rider cafe racer and also has a rider on it that looks like an American guy I'm leading towards that TS54 light metallic blue
I'm also leaning to make it look like metal like an aluminum gas tank and fairings I wonder what paint would make it look like real aluminum.
Thanks for the video I just picked up the metallic green and they’re light green and the candy green. I just painted a 4 runner Z body with the candy green it’s awesome did the top with a metallic black. I have another truck to paint I’m looking for a metallic copper color any suggestions? Thanks
These are great spray paints. Great results every time
@@barbatosrex9473 do they have a copper and maybe a metallic clearcoat?
@@krissfly they don't have a copper, closest would be metallic orange. But they do have clears, Gloss and matte. And both are great
Belated Merry Christmas from England
Merry Christmas to you and your family also buddy
It's incredible the TS-53 has a purple cap but once you spray it you find out it looks like Admiral Blue / Sephang Blue.
I have red kit, can i just straight spray the dark mica blue? tq
