Roy’s English accent impersonation sounds like a Jamaican-Irish guy. 😂 🤣
Sounded a bit like dick van dyke after an extended visit to Australia and during a bout of Bell’s Palsy to me 🤔
im english and i struggled to understand him then haha.
Beer can.
My mother was a Black Welsh woman. Accent was most strong when she was mad or when we were in trouble.😳
@@richicks425 yeah I live in Southern California with that famous neutral California accent and one of my best friends who grew up in North Carolina but has lived in California for many years and done a lot of acting work gives off archetypical California energy, but whenever we're talking and she gets super passionate about something (but mildly interestingly enough not if we're arguing, just if it's something outside our interactions she cares deeply about), her super strong southern accent starts to unintentionally slip out more and more, and it's not so secretly slightly adorable.
🤣 Idris Elba sure got me!!! I loved him in Luther. I was like dang he does a perfect British accent 🤦🏾♀️
🤣🤣🤣
To watch my little niece brain explode when I told her that Quentin from This Christmas is a Brit 🤯😂
Luther was BOMB
😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Roy's ability to make mildly interesting observations hilarious with his language and delivery and then extract a profound, actionable lesson from them is mindblowing
You said it better than I could 👍
@@martinraeside he said it better than anyone could say it.
dam you explained all of stand up in one sentence
Agreed! I’ve always half listened to him, but for the past 2-3 months I have truly become a fan. He’s an amazing story teller!
Yes, he is funny 🤣
"If I don't know your pain, I can't trust you to portray mine on camera." - Roy Wood
That is true, I was more happy with Morgan Freeman portraying Nelson Mandela than Idris portraying Nelson Mandela. I think that's because South Africa and America are open with discussing race issues. While the British pretend as if everything is alright over there.
Deep
Sorry I commented this and then after pressing send, I saw that you already did. I liked it anyway because this was soooo deep I started to cry. I feel like this with so many things.
@@thembinkosinkosi4850 No we don't 😂
Nah we know that’s there’s racism in the U.K. we just have other priorities, such as dealing with a class system for the past 1000 years.
"I can't help you with that baby, you gotta talk to the ancestors" HILARIOUS
How Roy isn't crazy famous is beyond me. He's freaking hilarious.
You should watch his Rod Stewart video 🤣
@@0farmerjohn0 I've seen it! 😂
He’s really good, but not THAT good.
A lot of comedians really don't care to be in the limelight, yeah sure everyone wants to make a paycheck or be a part of something they like, for instance look at bill burr. He had a very minor roll in breaking bad, and in the mandalorian, but I dont ever see him going for a whole feature length film. Then you have Dave Chappelle who did how high and the Chappelle show which both were awesome but he did those because he wanted to, not for the publicity or fame, and then he went on his way to live a private life. I respect comedians for that kind of stuff. A lot of them go on to be writers, directors, voice actors, stuff that really doesnt come across the majority of the public's eyes. I know personally that I wouldnt want to be crazy famous, sounds too toxic to a personal life. Hell another good example in a sense is the difference between Bert kreischer and Tom Segura. Bert loves to go out after his shows and enjoy the public where as Tom doesnt, he just wants to do his thing. Neither are exactly crazy famous outside of the comedy world, yet choose different ways on how they would like to live their lives.
@@0farmerjohn0 that Rod Stewart one had me ROTF. Don't for the Leo DiCaprio/Django joke 🤣🤣
"Talk to the ancestors"😅
Roy is my next fave stand up after chappelle
It's like how incredible footballers had to exist in the shadow of Messi and Ronaldo. Roy is a introspective and funny as Dave but alas... I am fan of both.
Chappelle has lost the hunger. Roy has an empty plate. But, yes, he was in the kitchen line behind Chappelle
As a boy in the '70s, it traumatized me when I heard the Bee Gees interviewed and found out they were not American.
for real hahaha
Wait...this just blew my mind.
AWB got me in the 70's when I saw them speaking on Don Kirchner's Rock Concert! But I was young and thought they were from Louisiana, because that's the only strange accent I had been exposed to other than a Hispanic family.
THEY'RE NOT? Damn 😭💀
🤣🤣🤣
" A pain that only Madea could fix... and then she talked to Oprah... 2 of the most powerful Black women in America"🤣🤣🤣 Love it ❤️😂
......well you're a black woman I assume, so of course your main take away was when he mentioned other black women.
You know a standup clip is good when you start getting upset that the video is about to end.
First half, I was on the floor laughing. Second half, I was waiting for the punchline, but it never came.
The Stringer Bell/Idris Elba bit applies to Franklin Saint/Damson Idris too 🤣
All American to
Nah, Damson Idris' accent is forced. I could tell immediately he wasn't American
@@azurelas1 I caught this too when I first seen snowfall.
Idris part is facts 😂
Fucked me all the way up!
Dead ass 💯
McNulty is British too :p
I'm white and I was shocked. Fooled all of us! The one thing that unites all races in America is that we all thought Idris was American. He was that good! Had the dialect and the swagger down pat! A god damn vocal chameleon.
WHAT?! I had no idea Anericans thought Idris Elba was anything but British, that's HILARIOUS 😂
He's been doing UK tv for decades hahaha he's a very famous Brit.
I knew he was British before I watched The Wire. But then I watch a ton of British TV and I didn’t see The Wire till at least 5 years after its run. Was he ever on Midsomer Murders?
@@rtd1791 not that I recall but I've not seen them all. I'm in Europe so I've always known him as a British actor. Like I grew up with Hugh Lawrie as "Baldrick" in Blackadder and in "A bit of Frye and Lawrie" and was impressed by his American accent and character as Dr. House. I much prefer British series to American ones although I do really enjoy a few.
Also Netflix offers very different content depending on location so I guess alot of British productions are broadcasted much later across the pond...
@doogie Five-Four that's funny 😄
I thought he was American back in 08 till I saw a cast interview with him. Don't watch Uk tv at all so I don't know about anything he did before The Wire. That is the case for most people over here in the States.
Most Americans don’t watch British tv.
"I can't help you with that, baby. You gotta talk to the ancestors!" ROFLMAO 💀⚰️💀
Man this dude is one of the funniest comedians in the business.
"if I don't know your pain, I can't trust you to portray mine on camera." Literally grabs a tissue to dab my eyes. This video was more real than it was funny.

If you want to get a feel for UK racism, recommending Steve McQueen's Small Axe.
It's an anthology series about struggles of black communities and police discrimination in 60's UK.
Thanks for the recommendation! @Mark Arandjus👍💕
And Guerilla by Idris Elba ...
Thanks!

You're right, it's an AMAZING series. Strong reccomend, as my American self had no idea about what was covered in it. Excellent casting too
Roy Wood Jr is always so awesome.
Since I was born in England and still watch a lot of British shows, I knew Idris was from the UK. I first saw him on a BBC show called Ultraviolet. And yes, there is plenty of racism in the UK.
And, slightly off subject, the fancy British acting schools tend to not accept working class folks.
Also Luther which was a fucking masterpiece
@@fromthehaven94There is community theater and public acting schools in most cities and towns in the UK. While Wunmi Mosaku, Cynthia Eviro and David Harewood went to RADA. Idris, Damson Idris, John Boyaga and Daniel Kuyuuya all went to community theater programs or got a university degree.
They brought our African Ancestors over here, lol. Our ancestors were British colonists slaves, then when America came into being, they became Murikkan slaves.
There's racism everywhere there's different people's but English blacks don't cry victim all day long, their more civilised bc we abolished slavery waaay b4 America, no Jim Crow or anything, still we have the same problem when it comes to black kids killing black kids over nothing
In the British education system, we were taught more about black civil rights and racism in America than we were about the British empire and commonwealth. We know ALOT more about you guys than you probably know about us and it’s a real shame because I think it would benefit African Americans to get a different perspective on “black culture” elsewhere and the movements others have gone through. I personally don’t like being lumped together as a “community “ which I know can be said for many of my fellow black British people, when our experiences are very different.
that’s a damn shame… this explains why the victimhood narrative in running rampant in the UK.
A lot of us did not know you were there. Of course I knew.

pretty crazy how successful people were at hiding that whole thing.
@@jeremylawson6648 it's easy to hide what you choose not to teach. i think that's why a lot of black churches make it a point of teaching black american history more in depth than the public school system cares to do so, something I gravely underappreciated while growing up. now i understand.
@@xxBrokenDreams666xx i couldn’t agree more, i went to a black school in literally kindergarten and preschool and learned more from that tiny bit of time about blackness than the rest of my educational career.
Wow! I'm from the city, our parents and grandparents made sure we knew about it. But Oklahoma public schools barely whispered it.
White American folks have a similar experience with Hugh Laurie.
💯 "WTF House is a BRITISH dude?" I believe Hugh Laurie auditioned for Dr. House as an unknown American acter because the director wanted the character to be so unflinchingly American as only an American could possibly be... but Hugh Laurie nailed it!
Really for me it was spike from buffy, i had no idea the dude is American in buffy I really thought he was a London brit.

hes physical acting and his faces are so damn funny and his delivery! is just oneof these dudes that has a way of saying things it just makes it more funny! bless from spain !!
Roy you are the man, you keep me hanging on every word!
A lot of us Brits are hoping Elba will be the next James Bond.
Not just the Brits. Hi from Finland!
I hope he gets a gig as a slick spy type, not James Bond and not 007. Love to see a 00-any other number. I mean, there has to be more than one 00 right?
We can leave James Bond on the side for a decade or so, build some other 00's and then do something special with them all.
How can he blended in white people crowed"Trevor Noah" 😂
I was hoping too but Idris said he felt he was too old (it’s fair, also seeing how long Daniel Craig did it)
America too!
Roy Wood is severely underrated.
Idris Elba is my celebrity crush. I found out about him from The Wire. I was shocked to find out he was British.
Slowly but surely becoming one of the best contemporary stand-up comedians
As a Brit who just watched this I really disagree. I'm so disappointed with what he just said. I felt like it was spreading damaging and incorrect info. As a white Brit whose family is now 60% non white I hugely disagree with his assessment of the UK. If you're non white and don't know much about the UK and watch this, you're gonna think "guess the UK is a pretty racist place" and not going to want to come over and give us a try! It just gets my back up when people spread inaccurate info based on their own assumptions instead of maybe googling some stats or talking to some black Brits.
@@fieryheadedgirl if you don't understand comedy, don't watch it.

His British accent was horrible 😂 but I think everyone felt the same way about Idris lol
Yes it sounded like he was impersonating a Jamaican instead, lol. But the first time I saw Idris in a movie was "The Mountain Between Us" I think he might have spoken with his real voice in that one.

roy is both funny and deep.
I'm a Brit, watched *"The Wire"* and didn't know both Idris Elba and Dominic West are British! That's how Idris got the *"Luther"* gig for the BBC. It's shame that a black British person has to go to make it in the States, and if they do that's when they get noticed in the country of their birth. That's when the UK wants to know.
Amen!!!! I still call him Stringer🤣🤣
Roy is top tier
Roy is a true professional comedian.
Love Roy. He's so freaking funny.
That Meghan Markle bit kinda hit the nail on the head. Sometimes there isn’t a solution.
Especially when there initially wasn't any issue and she had to fabricate problems
Hard to have any sympathy or empathy for someone that denies her race anyway....
Meghan made the same mistake as Diana. They both thought being a princess would be like a Disney film, in reality it’s a life of traditions and rules
Meghan Markle left the UK because, as she put it, she felt like a "civil servant in a tiara". Meaning she greatly disliked the role and the demands of being a working royal. She said the royal family were "always nice to her". The tabloids adored her and referred to the "Markle sparkle". The Queen gave pieces from her own personal jewelry collection and invited her to Christmas at the palace before she was even married to Harry - something that goes against royal protocol (has never been done before in history) and even Princess Catherine wasn't given that special treatment despite dating William for years and years before marrying him. Meghan had been dating Harry less than a year. The royal family threw her dream wedding and we British taxpayers paid $33 million for it. We loved her. And then something went wrong. She started breaking royal rules one by one, she hated the job when she realized how tough it was (don't blame her - I couldn't do it)... tabloids turned on her etc etc. But a very small minority of tabloids actually dared say anything mean regarding race and those that did were very much not the reflection of our press at large nor our public at large and our regard for her. Anyway.... we're not a racist nation. :/
@@fieryheadedgirl That's it. I find it rather banal that it is assumed that disdain for a person is for their superficial characteristics. For most of us critics, she deviated from what we expected of our Royal family.
We all know our royal family is German. The sizeable majority of us sincerely couldn't care about their genetics (if anything, the history European monarchies suggest some fresh genetics would do them a favour)
We just want them to stay non-partisan and uphold their traditions andstay away from "financiers" who own islands etc.
Now the monarchy arguably is a waste of money but for some of us, they represent something. For many nations, what unites the people and define the border is a culture, language, ethnicity, ideology, creedence, values, geography and so forth but the Queen, being the head of state in the commonwealth means that our pool of brother and sisters can transcend all those. He biggest echo chamber of them all.
Read about the Battle of Bamber bridge in WW2 for a sense of what fair play means to some of us.
Wow.. This is a legendary bit. Perfect 👌🏼
