SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! Underrated gem from the golden death-era. I can't believe, Thresholds was almost 20 TWENTY!!! years ago! This is the landmark of which you could define whole genre. Hope, we'll see more releases of this kind!
Nocturnus é como se fosse um Coroner do thrash metal... Impossível alguém se assemelhar com eles... São bandas singulares, muito vanguardas pra sua época.
Used to watch Mike Davis come over to jam at my friend Mikes house before I even knew who Nocturnus was. I would sit there with my mouth open catching flies watching the 2 Mikes shred in his house. Little did I know I was witnessing something what many would consider a dream come true to them.
That would have definitely been a dream come true for me. One of the most underrated bands in the history of metal. STILL the best! Extremely inspiring and original metal. Definitely on my desert island music list, sitting next to Helstar 's "Nosferatu" and Morbid Angel 's "Altars of Madness". Their music will never get old in my book.
Do you know what happened to Mike after Nocturnus disbanded? Or any of the other members? I saw the keyboardist in a few work safety videos, but that's it. It's a very melancholic feeling, to think about all the great potential within this band, which instead faded into relative obscurity. Sigh...
Not sure. This happened over 30 years ago. I was just a kid and they were in their twenties. I joined the Navy and never seen them again. I still have the memories though.
You were friends with the drummer and lead guitarist. Considering how Mike was only 19 when this album was released then how fast was he playing without a metronome?
@@Headbanger9000 I agree, but they definitely had some thrashy moments. Not so much on this album, but slivers can be heard in certain songs on "The key" and their early demos. Btw... Pestilence, Atheist, and Death all had their fair share of thrash influences on their early recordings as well.
@Blood Eagle 88 Mike did take a *few* lessons from Ralph Santolla (r.i.p.) but his main teacher was a guy named Dallas Perkins. Another student he gave lessons to was James Murphy.
This band was one of my favorites from back in the day.. I wish they'd come out w a new record.. that'd be fuckin amazing man! They were underrated imo.. and one of the 1st technical death metal bands ever.. they were fuckin sick as hell man!! Thanks for sharing this video.. I haven't seen this in years! It brings back some awesome memories.. great band!! Cheers from Cincinnati Ohio USA..
@Blood Eagle 88 hell yeah bro.. thanks alot.. I'll definitely check that out.. the key is one of my all time favorites man.. I was just listening to that this morning lol.. the keyboards are eerie as shit bro.. so fuckin cool.. but I really appreciate the information dude, and u take care and stay safe.. cheers from Cincinnati Ohio USA..
only when you watch old gems like this, and listen old death metal bands from 80s and early 90s, you can see how much actually death metal degraded today.
Nocturnus is sooooo much better than Morbid Angel. I wish they had gotten the recognition they deserved back in the day so that they could’ve released more music. Thankfully we have Paradox! I hope we get more stuff from Nocturnus AD in the future
What’s become of Davis? He and Estes were really bad influences on me as a wee lad. I remember when mike got this new crazy yellow Jackson(I think). It looked like hr Geiger designed it himself. Loved this band. 🤘👽🎸
I wonder how long we shall have to wait for a professional lesson with solos and riffs from this track I'm sick of Metallica, Black Sabbath and other super stars, how long can rolling out one and the same?
i have never heard of this band up until i read about them while reading about artificial brain. i was expecting them to be pretty much like artificial brain but was pleasantly surprised to find out that that wasnt the case.
Think Nocturnus kind of svings.!.. Abit special D.m. though-but they shure can play. Pluss its respect with Mike who was formerly from Morbid Angel.!!..
BEGIN TRANSMISSION "This is Captain Hayes of the Eclipse Voyager. Reality is breaking. We entered a distortion field near Gliese 581. The stars shifted; corridors twisted. @@Headbanger9000 Right on. After commenting I came to learn that Mike actually gave Trey his yellow warrior pro back in the day, and that guitar eventually went up for sale. I’ve also spent the last four months trying to find a pro, but they are incredibly rare now and go for $6-8k. :(
Funny because Mike Browning was a founding member of Morbid Angel alongside Trey Azagthoth and ended up leaving the band once he discovered that Trey had an intimate relationship with his girlfriend.
One of the best bands ever. Great musicians.
Earache Records have been home to so many of my favorite bands, Nocturnus included.
+Earache Records No problem, thanks for the music! Maybe I'll be lucky enough to land on your label someday haha
What a lost gem. After all these years, still in my top 10 best metal albums of all time.
I like how the bass actually goes pretty much note for note with the guitars, pretty damn impressive.
Such a grand song by Nocturnus - a true death metal masterpiece!
sci-fi death metal

Celtic Frost of America 🌞👌🏻
Celtic Frost is caveman grunting compared to Nocturnus😂. With all respect and love I have for them

"The Key" usłyszałem po raz pierwszy na podłym"jamniku"i zwaliła mnie z nóg.
Potęga muzyki.

Шикарная команда
It goes without saying, this is easily one of the greatest Metal videos ever made! The combination of visuals and music is fantastic!
So glad that Infidelamsterdam recommended them to me. These guys were an amazing Technical Death Metal band from a distant time.
Classic old school death/thrash metal, Nocturnus one of the best in their game.
I like your style Fish. Horns up for your taste in DM and of course your "Implements Of Hell". ⛧🤘
Thrash?
Thrash? These guys were pioneers of Technical Death Metal along with Atheist, Pestilence, Death

It's almost like thrash was an essential precursor to death metal or something
When I eventually leave this planet, I want Nocturnus played on my ship 24/7! Nocturnus, and Vektor!
Vektor fucking rules \m/
@Vile Hater they absolutely still do
There are better scifi/space metal bands out there, better than vektor.
Voivod, Atheist, even spheres by Pestilence
What about cryptic shift them guys are great, listen to them if you haven't.

What guitar is Mike playing? Jackson Warrior?
Yes. In fact Im pretty sure Trey from MA played Warriors because of Mike. They were good friends

umm if the drummer is the vocalist why is there a guy holding a mic in the front?
Because this song is from their 2nd album when Dan Izzo took over the Vocal duties.
