He's beaten Lin Yun-Ju before too, I wouldn't be surprised if he beats Harimoto too because the newer offensive style generation aren't as good as dealing against chopper as the previous generation, if you get Timo or Xu Xin or Ma Long, I'm sure they wouldn't struggle vs any chopper

Very entertaining game, both played very variably with changes in tempo, sometimes attacking, sometimes returning with great touch ... Congrats to Filus.
After a whirlwind start by Calderano, Filus combined spot-on-tactics and and brave execution with very few unforced errors to claim a well deserved victory in this top flight competition. Looking forward to his next match.
I feel like I’m missing out on an incredible era of table tennis with the side of the table camera angle. It robs all of us of the incredible bilateral dynamics that define Table Tennis
Agree. Everything i see the video title I’m looking forward to it and then I immediately close the video. I don’t know who this angle is for. If you stream it for a general audience that doesn’t care, then please make a separate video for them and one for those who actually love the sport.

I thought I would see a flying racket at the end of the match but no.😱 Let's be honest, Ruwen Filus' counter-attacks + racket flipping (changing ball spin) during rallies did the job. Great performance !

Amazing match from Filus, once again showing what it really means to be a modern chopper. He flipped his script so well after that first game, going from a far from the table defense plan to a more close up pips attack plan. No we get to see the rematch between him and Lin Yun Ju

The second set has not been easy for Filus. Congrats to him for winning against Hugo. A big win definitely. Defense doesn't easily earn you points; attacks are the king.

Hugo Calderano is such a spectacular player, brilliant technique and a imaginative game... but not enough to touch Filus this time. It's really entertaining to watch Filus when he's in this kind of shape. I think his style is the way to go if one goes for defending style now, and in the future. Only a strong def isn't enough anymore, you simply have to be sharp in the attack every time the opponent hesitates.

Калдер хотел филуса продырявить мячом, наказать так, чтобы больше даже не думал в защите играть) Но это и послужило тому, что филус стал сам атаковать, а кальдерано похоже не ждал такого поворота событий.

@@ingullar ну так с чего его дисквал? он правила не нарушает, играй как хочешь - главное ракетку в руках держи, вообще не понял что за предъява. Хочешь быть лучшим - умей играть и против таких игроков, чет китайцы его бы и так раскатали

Мне показалось, что против запилов Хьюго выиграл бы, как в 1й партии. А вот к целому набору ништяков вроде кинжальный выпадов, кручения ракетки, подачи шипами и самое главное, постоянной смены ритма и действий, Хьюго оказался не готов. На главного умнярика нашелся подход. Я был удивлен!

Hugo hit the ball with so much force that Ruwen had no chance if he had used chop as his usual main play. What Ruwen did? He changed his game to an attack oriented defender taking advantage that Hugo maybe powerful but very rough and error prone. The tactic worked wonder in this match.
However, Ruwen will still have no chance against top Chinese players like Xu Xin, Fan and Ma Long as these players not only have power but control as well.

It was a tactical masterclass so it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Saying Xu Xin instead of Wang Chuqin is weird since Xu has been gone over a year and Wang is world no. 2
Ruwens pips also don't generate as much backspin as others when chopping from the table so it's easier for players to smack the ball than against something like curl p1. He uses feint 3 which in his words allows him to be more creative close to the table but not as effective chopping, which is exactly what we saw today. He also doesn't chop on forehand and with a guy like hugo who wants to kill the ball an instant after the bounce, fishing isn't really an option at this level, you need to send a deep fast ball back or chop it.
Ruwen faces Lin who he beat last time they played, and if he wins then either Liang or Chuqin, both of who have lost to Hou Yingchao so they aren't perfect against choppers either.
for quarter final: 4 chinese, 1 german, 1 french, 1 taiwanese, 1 korean. The final should be played between 2 chinese. But the good suprise could be Lebrun vs Fan zendhong.

Feels like Calderano got outperformed by the tactics of Rosskopf. He was trying to just attack everything with power, but Filus would return short balls or long bien coupés and then attack him in his forehand

Maybe the most awkyard game i have seen so far. If you see this and the slow clunky movement of filus in comparison to other players and then see him beat calderano, you go "why arent more players chopping?!" must have been really hard for calderano to play the not so used to play against long knob-style mix

За счёт воплей своих истеричных он "выиграл". Грош цена таким "выигрышам".
Filus exposed Caldearnos weakness in his short Forehand service return .NO Forehand Flick at all. just bad pushes and sometimes mediocre flicks, which allowed Filus to attack.
Hugo has a great forehand flick though. Filus was giving half long to the forehand with pimples which is different to an inverted short push which he knew how to deal with. Hugo still attacked first almost every time with loop but it was weaker. Again filus didn’t just give only short FH he received sometimes forehand sometimes to his elbow point with fast float balls, so Hugo didn’t know whether to pivot or go to the forehand side
He also got way now aggressive on the next 3 sets he won, so he did far more than simply exploit a short forehand weakness

Calderano should practice defending more often. He is purely agressive and can do nothing when he gets attacked.

Офигеть. Игрок первой десятки с защитником не справился. Как и Лин Юн Ю в финале против Филуса тоже проиграл. Походу с топовыми защитниками только у китайцев проблем нет. Наверное всё дело в китайской липучке справа и самом топсе справа у китайцев это лучше всего получается по шипам самое верное средство

Mas, infelizmente, depois de jogar no clube russo desde janeiro de 2022, seu jogo ficou ruim. Há um ano e meio que vejo você jogar como se estivesse sob alguma substância, se preocupando muito, tremendo e cometendo muitos erros estúpidos e não forçados em seu jogo. Infelizmente, não há mais o Hugo Calderano que derrotou Fan Zhendong em 2018. Você perdeu a energia e a impressionabilidade que teve desde o início de sua carreira até janeiro de 2022. Você tem 26 anos, mas há um ano e meio que joga como se tivesse 40 anos. E é uma pena que o Brasil não aloque dinheiro para o desenvolvimento do tênis de mesa no Brasil. Hugo Calderano, obrigado por todos os torneios que você ganhou e que me fizeram feliz. Serás sempre o meu ídolo. К сожалению, уже нет того Уго Калдерано, который победил Фан Жендонга в 2018 году. Ты потерял свою энергичность и впечатлительность, которая была у тебя от начала твоей карьеры до января 2022 года. He just has a hard time against choopers, Filus had beaten him already and also a Korean Choper like a year ago. He is in great form.

He played like a robot to be honest, a less advanced one, he just had a simple strategy to attack the chops hard and powerful of the bounce and end the rallies quickly. But he lost too Filus when he started too vary and deceive
