"The batteries are prolly dying" :/ um, no I don't think so :/ shows how much that guy knows, lol. When I saw it Sunday, it was looking north/NE. Man like the energizer bunny it kept going and going. Nice vid, that poor 128 died after only being up bout 3 months
I'm surprised that the T-128 in my hometown hasn't done that yet... we got it last year and normally newer sirens are a bit buggy/glitchy so they'll malfunction every once in a while. It happened with the old Fedelcode Model 5 siren.
The Grafton T-128's have problems too. The two newer ones are fine but the older three have some issues. I recorded one back in March and the chooper was broken but it was literally still spinning during the test. The other two sound that their choppers are on their last legs
So did they just recently install sirens in Plymouth? The only one I knew of was the one at the fire station (not sure what model it was, but it was a monotone, sort of shaped like a birdhouse. I just happened to hear it one day when it sounded for a fire call).
They said they are going to try and repair it, not sure if that means sending it back or not. The siren head is still there, but the controls got sent up to a company in Elkhart for repairs. Elkhart actually bought 2 T-128s back around early August, and both of those have been having issues since. Makes me wonder if this was a bad run of sirens or something. That makes 3 total in the area that have controller issues. And yes, this was installed in late November. Less than 2 months old.
The city of Plymouth installed a system of 4 T-128s in 2009. These are very well hidden and I don't blame you for not being able to find them. One is at the FD, another at a park off of Plymouth-Goshen Trl, one by the water tower on the west side of town and the last by the cemetery on the south side. Center Township installed 2 T-128s this past November. This one and one at a Mobile home park south of 30 near Inwood. This is technically a Center Twp siren.
I think, this might not be true, but a company my grandpa (Erwin Marohn) used to own a company called Plymouth White Metal, rebuilt the one near the FD. This might not be true, but that's what I was told.
My town sounds ours for 3 minutes straight, 10 minutes during warnings and watches and so-so, I have seen a whelen make a loud boom then the horn of the whelen falls off, otherwise rip whelen wps 4008
@SirenTube Well, for starters, the test and warning times have changed. 3 minutes for tests, and 5 minutes for an actual emergency, although it may repeat, and they removed a voice message saying what emergency was occurring, except on testing days. And, all speaker horns for the 4008s have been changed to the omnidirectional 2910s.
@SirenTube As for what you asked, no, the horn didn't really explode, misinterpretation and exaggeration. The siren in mention was struck by lightning, it never exploded or completely fell off, although the back plating of its horn, some shrapnel, and if I'm not wrong, the horn's screen went flying. It was said to be working poorly after the incident, which it was retired and had a newer 2910 in it's place.
Yes and no. This one has battery backup, meaning it runs off standard power until there's an outage, then switches to battery. It was not running off the batteries in the video. That guy was clueless.
As of last weekend (3/9/13) this siren is still pointing the same direction that it stopped in when it finally died. Sure hope they fix it soon as we're going into tornado season.
Its pretty much set up the same way a 2001 AC/DC is. 48 volt DC system consisting of an AC rectifier, 4 batteries and charger, set up in a standby configuration. Once Ac power fails, the batteries kick in to standby mode until ethier Ac power is restored or the siren is activated for some reason, then the back up system goes offline or in the case of an activation, Active,
Hey, the siren next to my school just did this recently. Only it did 5 seconds of alert and then shut off for like 5 minutes. then it wound up again, stayed on for 5 seconds, and wound down. and it did that until 4:30 p.m. that day. it started at 11:00 a.m. But it didnt burst into flames... can anyone explain?
I only know of one, its a 7V8 across from the high school on the PD I believe. Last I saw the FD siren was an STH-10, unless that was replaced as well? Are those the only 2? Thanks for the info on the fd siren. I'll have to go check that out!
New update - Its still broken. Last week we got a tornado warning and the news advised people in that area not to rely on it. Who knows when its gonna be fixed.
Nope. That was actually a T-135 AC/DC in Aurora, IL. They had just installed it and were doing the initial testing, when 30 seconds later, poof. It went up in flames. I can only find one picture of that siren, and no videos.
I thought Plymouth didn't have sirens, but Knox does. They recently installed several Sentries; one which is owned and mounted on a volunteer fire dept.!
The 2001 at the soccer complex in Granger is in terrible shape. It's sad really, I even thought about getting my own siren to replace that one until they fix it, then sell it to Edwardsburg,MI.
I have no idea. It probably rotated until the maintenance guy got his ladder. The siren is still up as of last week. What siren was it that malfunctioned?
I'm here after the Trevor P-50 Fiasco, The Trevor, WI P-50 ran for 30 minutes non stop and I was hoping the P-50 was not going be in the same failure as this of burning the motor out by a welded relay. At least it didn't catch on fire like a T-135 did because the siren would be deemed a total loss if it did catch on fire.
P-50's have continuous duty cycle motors. that means that they can run for at least 3 hours nonstop, quite possible it could run indefinitely [i could be wrong that's what i heard]
Still dead. I was just down there last week and it's still shut off and is still pointing the same direction. Something tells me it's just going to be left there to rot. Poor thing.
the T-128s here where i live that replaced the thunderbolt 1000s and 1000Ts for the limerick power plant have never done anything like that; there fine but not even as loud as the thunderbolts were.
Yeah half our sirens don't work :/ Edwardsburg is doing surveying on putting in a siren system, but I haven't heard anything in awhile. I'm Tyler Noie on FB in case you haven't figured that out, lol.
So i guess the the T-128 has a duty cycle of 40 Minutes and it really sounded good in the first part of the video i would of thought more people would be standing outside thier homes seeing what is going on
They will probably just throw a new DC chopper motor in it, costs a lot cheaper then replacing the whole unit. But yeah better get that radio checked first, obviously ran WAY past its Duty Cycle which is why it burned up in the first place.
Thats a shame, maybe they want to be too cheep to try and fix it, would think they would considering how much a new siren costs compared to the cost of a DC chopper motor. And sorry for the inrush of comments, playing catch up on everything seeing a sI have the time to do so, working 12 hour days doesnt leave much free time after sleep ya know.
Nooooo! Lol. They would lose some serious range if a 2001 went here. It does make me wonder though, for their next batch of sirens, if they'll still go with ASC given what happened here.
The siren went way past it's duty cycle. Reason why it died.
Siren is now fixed and fully operational.
WarningSirensOfMichiana really?
Yay :)
Wow. It survived?
sweet.
I saw a picture of a T-128 on fire, was the siren in this video the one in that picture. if so is there a video of it catching fire?

We had storms. We abused our sirens. I could hear a T128 3 blocks away, losing pitch. It works properly as of now.
I'm surprised that the T-128 in my hometown hasn't done that yet... we got it last year and normally newer sirens are a bit buggy/glitchy so they'll malfunction every once in a while. It happened with the old Fedelcode Model 5 siren.

Yep. Duty cycle is 30 minutes, and the city said this siren actually ran for over an hour. Austin was chasing it for about 45 minutes.
So did they just recently install sirens in Plymouth? The only one I knew of was the one at the fire station (not sure what model it was, but it was a monotone, sort of shaped like a birdhouse. I just happened to hear it one day when it sounded for a fire call).

the suicidal siren should be the new title
I don't think so, lol. Is the STH still up? When did it get replaced?
It had every right to take a shit. The duty cycle was exceeded.

@ND1003 Please make a video of this siren again. Has it been repaired yet?

It's still got fresh dirt around the pole. Sad sad. They going to send it back to ASC?

Billy Ann Woodcock Still there, been repaired.
What's the siren originally white
Sounds like a whelen

Its because the motor had time to cool down since it blasted for only 5 seconds at a time with a 5 minute break and not 3 minutes with no breaks
I only know of one, its a 7V8 across from the high school on the PD I believe. Last I saw the FD siren was an STH-10, unless that was replaced as well? Are those the only 2? Thanks for the info on the fd siren. I'll have to go check that out!

As of about 2 weeks ago it changed positions a little bit, haven't been down there since then so I'm not sure. Gonna go back down again soon though.
Is there a recording of this siren?
The tape was not that long.
Get some British sirens. One of the klaxon CS8s was activated during a storm accidentally and sounded alert at for 2 hours. No pitch drop at all.
"this things gonna burst into flames!" no it didn't. It smoked, but no fire.
Did they get it fix it???!?
ND1003,any idea when the siren will be repaired?
They throw a new chopper motor in it yet or still dead?

we are getting our whelen wps system replaced with these. i hope this doesn't happen to any of them

Radio failing and killing a new siren by driving it past its Duty Cycle? Thats a first.
