Too many people underestimate the totality of Christine McVie's role in the dynasty that is Fleetwood Mac. While many of her songs are FM [and F.M.] classics, the importance of her contributions as an over-all factor is sometimes lost on the hordes of Stevie Nicks fanatics (of which I am one): in the classic Mac lineup, she was the middle ground -- tying together the wispy, fairy god mother mysticism (and at times, flakiness) of Nicks and the avant-gardism of Lindsay Buckingham. Hers were the straight-Pop gems -- predominantly love songs, nothing more, nothing less...sung in her honey-dipped husky contralto -- one of Rock 'N Roll's absolute sexiest voices.
In her 40+ decade career, McVie recorded only three solo albums, and only one while still technically in Fleetwood Mac (1970s CHRISTINE PERFECT, 1984s CHRISTINE McVIE, and 2004s IN THE MEANTIME).
While McVie never toured as a solo act, she has performed dates to promote her solo work. In this series of clips, McVie was promoting her (at that point) upcoming 1984 self-titled album. The lovely pop-infused record was released in January of 1984 and was a modest success. The album spawned two Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits (the #10 "Got A Hold On Me" and the #30 "Love Will Show Us How" which was released with a terrific video) and the LP peaked at #24 on Billboards Top 200. This concert was recorded on December 16 1983 at the Country Club in LA. Assisted by guitarist Todd Sharp, (future FM guitarist) Billy Burnett, bassist George Hawkins and drummer Steve Ferrone (all musicians who also played on her album) -- along with special guest Mick Fleetwood -- she performs a lively set of new songs and a few FM classics.
I have a great audio bootleg of this same concert, and missing here is footage of the 2 encores she performed after "Songbird", the final selection on this video. They were "Say You Love Me" and "Over My Head". This concert was filmed as a TV special, so the final sequence is not the actual succession of the concert (this is done more-often-than-not in live concert videos/films). Here's the actual track listing of the show that evening:
Love Will Show Us How
Keeping Secrets
The Challenge
Who's Dreaming This Dream
I'm The One
So Excited
Don't Stop
Got A Hold On Me/Band Intros
One In A Million
You Make Lovin Fun
World Turning
Songbird
Say You Love Me
Over My Head
But even sans those two FM encores from the Mac's classic 1975 FLEETWOOD MAC album, this was a wonderful concert...and makes one wish McVie would opt to tour solo more often...
In part 1, Christine performs "Love Will Show Us How", "Keeping Secrets" and "The Challenge" -- all from her CHRISTINE McVIE lp.
Thank you for posting this. Despite all the accolades Stevie gets with Fleetwood Mac, I still prefer Christine's vocals
She’s may be a very unique singer because the irony is behind her maiden name, she’s absolutely perfect!
Top 3 female voices for me for sure, and they are interchangeable. I absolutely love her to death
@@annecohen8927She never liked her name Perfect because she never thought she was Perfect. I heard her say that somewhere
High quality material. Very sad that shes gone. Beautiful Music. Sorrow from Siberia.
I always loved the sound of her voice. And let's not forgot her keyboard skills.
OMG, I'm telling on my age, but I remember the 80's Country Club, in Reseda California. (The Valley! ). Christine has always be a favourite, ever since I heard her "I'd Rather Go Blind" with Chicken Shack
R.I.P. Christine, thank you your music is a great company living today far from home in Jinju, South Korea for these days.
What a band! Those boys really came thru for Christine on some songs that have tough timing and keys. She was great to write and perform such challenging and melodic music, RIP
Christine McVie is already sadly missed. Heaven has found her Angel's voice. Rest in God's tender embrace.
The best of Christine McVie, better as with Fleetwood Mac band. The Band even was great together with Christine, thanks forever.
Effing wonderful!!!! I wake up every morning (ya know, when my heart rises with the morning sun) and thank God for this woman!
Songbird is a classic, haunting. I love her 83 solo album
absolutely the Queen of Fleetwood Mac! Christine always showed great class! And love all her songs beginning with HOMEWARD BOUND and SPARE ME A LITTLE OF YOUR LOVE from Bare Trees! What a great concert this is! Thanks!
Yes, it's a pity she did SIX songs from the BN days of Fleetwood Mac and nothing before that. Not "Morning Rain" or"Why" or "Prove Your Love". That said she is still wonderful here.
R.I.P. CHRISTINE MCVIE 🕯️🕯️🕯️☠️🙏🙏🙏🙏💔😇😇😇SONG 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️ BIRD!

YOU WILL BE MISSED
Thanks so much for this, this performance of The Challenge (one of my favourite songs of all time) is amazing. Todd Sharp is extremely underrated, I miss the fading "so lonely"s but that outro solo is fantastic too. Cheers again!
Still the best female vocalist in forever.
Thank you for this wonderful video, Christine McVie makes music from another planet and in such an impressive way, you cant stop listening. Thanks a lot Christine, please continue.
holy shit this is awesome
Thank you so much for sharing this video. Haven't seen it or forgotten it since 1983!
this was on VHS ages ago. There were too hits on her 1st solo work. Alas her 2nd release had no hits. I also enjoyed "Who's dreaming this dream?" I love the 1972's "Why?" too. i really like her FM pre-Stevie stuff.
"Why", yes! That's one of my fav's, too!
Love Christine! Her Persona on stage is Magnificent.....
She’s perfect ❤
Great to see Billy Burnett playing guitar ((the guy next to her in black with the black hair).
for a moment I thought it was a playback but no, amazing musicians
NO PARO DE ESCUCHARLA A MCVIE , ES UNA GENIA DE LAS GENIAS!
Great group!! Fantastic singers!
Love it and thanks for listening!
thanks thanks for this video !! I love her :))) awesome for me
me, too! My uncle loved chicken shack and that was my favorite
R.I.P. Christine. 💔
c'est l'un de mes morceaux préférés 🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is SUPER. THANKS
One of my three favourite female vocalists/performers. Incredible voice. Very sadly missed.
So tight. Way to go CM!
Thanks so much!!
Gracias totales.
I just like to change the description of this video. Christine Perfect Album was in 1969 not 1970.
I just love Todd Sharp
he's a badass. Tone Monster
I hear that Fleetwood Mac guitar sound.
this presentation from --- dec 1983-4 , { is part my memories ,OBSOLUTELY }
Is that Billy Burnette on guitar? The one dressed in black, standing closest to Christine.
thanks for the awesome uploads! love this! I did note in your description that you said "McVie never toured as a solo act" but that's not entirely true. she had a very short set of tour dates across the US from April to June of 1984 in support of this album.
more than ecxellent ---dec 17 th 1984
Thank you so much for this! I love Christine she is one of my all time favorites! And soooo underrated!
R.I.P. Christine (Perfect) McVie
i LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE HER
I ❤ ❤ ❤ this LADY !!!
OMG almost 30 years ago!!
Miss her voice.
Don't cut down on loudness! It's worth it!
Great music! But how did they manage to keep her into the shadows ALL of the time???
Fire the lighting designer = TERRIBLE lighting, she's wearing dark clothes AND they backlight her hair!?
Waha! Indeed. But I do believe they didn't have much space to move around with the camera's.
This was quite striking to me too. The three guitarists come across more as the front people. I’m guessing it was at least partly Christine’s preference - off to the side, dimly lit, was her comfort zone when playing with the Mac as well.
@@justinglanville3470 Well, the lightning designer is save then. :)
@manthony1956 I agree, I do prefer Christine too!! Her voice is just so marvelous to listen too!
Awesome
George Hawkins Jr is on bass
Play it loud!!!
She had a much better voice than Stevie Nicks.
Totality gratcie.
listen to Rush "Signals" or "Distant Early Warning". So much that 80s sound. love it. Husband Eddy Quintela on rhythm guitar. I think?
eddy was on keyboards.
@ASurvivor1 I agree with that. I just have not been as happy with Fleetwood Mac since she left the group.
Отверни громкость, оно того стоит.
I know the bassista played with Olivia Newton John.
iamjefferychrist could you put all the parts together as one full concert at all?
Fleetwood Mac isn't Fleetwood Mac with out Christine!!
Fleetwood Mac isn't Fleetwood Mac without Peter Green.
Fleetwood Mac isn’t Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham
I wanna see Todd smile.
how is it that the same person is playing both lead and rhythm guitar???
There is another guitarist.
@@edt.5118 that’s the joke dummy. They look almost identical.
The bass player looks like the wrestler Ted Dibiase, LOL
Who is the drummer?
I see ..It's Steve Ferrone. This guy is a great pocket drummer. Super steady. He has an impressive resume- Clapton, The Heartbreakers, Average White Band just to name a few. I figured this guy is major dude.
They do look alike
She was the REAL boss ;) Lindsey an say what he wants but we know the truth
billy looks pissed
I'm a huge fan of her, but her ingeniousness is most with Fleetwood Mac...
who is the bass player
george hawkins
can we have this show without the writing across the bottom, ruining a great show
It was a bit more acceptable but I saw an interview with him from 2006 and he's still wearing it, he looks like a drag queen these days, not a good look
So...... I was 14 years old and already maybe 6 ft 4 230lbs.... having 3 older brothers quite older than me. I was a baseball player who went on to have a good carrear. I'm born and raised in the sfv where this place has always been famous for having huge names doing shows under a different name. ....maybe tuneup shows before big tours. I was snuck into this show by my brothers....kinda disinterested as a 14 yo guy loving kiss would be yet knew on the first breath she showed that that voice I knew ......rt away. It was like a alarm to wake u up in that regardless of anything around ya it is something easily quickly identifiable. And having 4 older siblings with huge musical taste and references for me to hear daily I was very aware of all the rumors tunes and such. The next week I was taken to see this old crusty guy that bored me to tears.....David gates from firefall...firewall.... lol. I saw many HUGE bands and solo acts after this show....no wonder I became a 30 working touring guitarist. This woman WAS the only example really of a PLAYER.... not a chick who played....it transcended gender. Christine was the single coolest stud musician in every room she was in. Epitome of class ....chops....and legacy. I'm so bummed she's gone....but it is like we hear at these time the truth in that we have her body of work preserved to continue to be affected by. RIP Christine Perfect Mcvie...... the player. Jp
