Yea! I was worried you were going to ditch the vans. My only suggestion: Make the updates you need to make it home. Reach out to the Trent & Allie (they went from Alaska to Patagonia) Morton’s, RV Geeks & Mike at RV Adventures for assistance. There is a tremendous knowledge base out there to make the van the home of your dreams rather than a ball & chain you are dragging around the USA. AND, TO CLOSE, ONE WORD: BEDDIES!!!
Could you get a second removable “pee” tank? I saw that Kara lifted it out easily, so why not just buy a second removable tank? You’d have to store a full one till you were able to dump, but then you could be off grid a day or so longer. Seems easier than trying to put in a bigger tank...... Or...........just pour out the full tank into something like a jerrycan, and store that till you can dump. Seems like a no brainer!
MI - All of the beach towns along lake Michigan, don't forget to check out the cherries in Traverse City, Torch Lake, Lake Kitichipi, Tahquanamin Falls, and the lochs in Sault Sainte Marie. We did all of that in the Lake Michigan circle tour and would do it again in a heartbeat
When you come to Ohio, be sure to check out the SE part of the state in the Hocking Hills region....I’m only about 20 minutes away and have a driveway that you can power up in and use some amenities before you start wandering the hills, trails, back roads and caves.

Kara and Nate, you are my favorite travel vloggers and thanks for visiting my beautiful country Philippine right before the pandemic hits. Just to let you know, you are very popular in my country.
Good luck, you might want to plan for Alaska being at the end. "international" travel restrictions going through Canada to get there will probably not allow you till the pandemic is done with us.
Hi Kara and Nate, Glad to see that your travels continue! Please don’t forget to discuss at some point your internet issues and how you addressed them. I think a lot of people would appreciate your insight!
As soon as they said they were going to fix the toilet situation, I was like “I hope Nate’s not going to do it himself!” We all know how well that usually works out. 😂
I had the same problem with my 1967 Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer. Originally, the trailer was not built with a grey water tank. The grey water tanks on the market would not fit in the space that was available under the trailer. So, I ordered a 4x8 sheet of polypropylene, some polypropylene welding rods, a plastic welding kit from Harbor Freight, and fabricated my own grey water tank. While I was at it, I also fabricated a larger fresh water tank. One of the funniest projects I have done and would recommend you give it a shot!
I have an idea for a travel place in Wisconsin! The Willow River State Park has an amazing waterfall that even has a high up viewpoint where you can take great pictures! You can even go behind the waterfall! I would recommend you go to it during the summer so it isn’t frozen but wintertime it is also pretty then! You can look up what it looks like but it is so much better in person. I love you guys and good luck on your 50 states goal!

@@salan3507 i’ve lost multiple family members to this pandemic. i’m so happy for you that you’ve been so lucky as to believe that nothing bad is going on. it’s not a lie for me, or for my family who are healthcare workers. i’ve seen so many people that i love struggle so much during this time, and if only it was as easy as ‘deciding it’s ok now’. i’m disgusted that you have such a disregard towards your fellow human beings, who are dying in record numbers every day.
@@jjennyrae I am a healthcare worker!! In a city of about 4 million people...the national guard came in and built an overflow facility at the sports stadium. It was later dismantled without seeing ONE covid patient there! Every year people die of pneumonia, the flu, viruses and the world is not shut down. But yet...since 2020 the main businesses suffering and going bankrupt are small businesses while businesses like Walmart and Amazon are thriving! We are watching the destruction of the middle class while people like you are sleeping. I know asthmatic people, and 90 year olds, and morbidly obese people who have had covid and didn't even need to go to the hospital. What is happening at the hospitals is people put on VENTILATORS without even trying more conservative treatment first. A large majority of those ventilated die! And if you truly work "in the medical field" then you know the hospitals are being highly compensated for every patient put on a ventilator. Follow the money! And now a fast tracked vaccine that many intelligent medical workers are just saying NO WAY to. Good.
I have another solution for your toilet problem. Buy another bucket part for the toilet. You will have two of those and then can store a full one in a container somewhere on the outside of the van (like an attachment on the back of the van, or a tow, or underneath in some storage.

Will he be allowed to film there ? They had trouble before in filming in parks. >>> ua-cam.com/video/RHvHn9hs1MY/v-deo.html Seems it's against the law to film in National parks, I don't know about State Parks though.
@@joevicario9815 A federal judge recently ruled that is was unconstitutional to not allow people to film and photograph in National Parks, Forests, and Public lands. Hocking Hills is a state park, forest, and the region has a few amazing nature preserves. This ruling was specifically aimed towards youtubers, not large scale productions. The only restrictions I can find are specifically are at the nature preserves that require a permit to even visit. But the rest of the State Park and Forest are free and the campgrounds right at Old Man's cave are very affordable. So they should be fine. Ohio's tourism is worth around $44 billion a year, I don't think they want to put any hold up to that cash flow coming into the state.
We just stayed in Nebraska for the last year (full-time RV living/windmill job) and our Nebraskan friends gave us some amazing recommendations for the Lincoln/Omaha area: Lincoln: Sunken Gardens Park (gorgeous sunken flower garden and waterfalls within the downtown area), Pioneer Park (huuuuge park with lots of nature trails), Cornhusker game, Haymarket shopping (The Mill coffee is delicious), breakfast at Cultiva, Capitol building free tour, Exhale by Haile has the best facials if you need a restful day, Other Room (secret speakeasy in Haymarket: Make sure Kylar is making your drinks!), and eat at Casa Bovina (Piedmontese beef, best beef ever). Also, Campaway RV resort is amazing. There's a park within it (we've seen turtles, squirrels, raccoons, foxes, and a coypu) and tons of activities. Owners and managers are super helpful and nice and the grounds are very clean with lots of trees for shade. Omaha (1 hr from Lincoln): Old Market shopping, OMAHA ZOO OMAHA ZOO OMAHA ZOO (you won't regret it), Devil's Slide (fun walk north of Omaha, cool view), and visit Platte River State Park between Lincoln and Omaha. Great nature walks with waterfalls and there are a Wildlife Safari Park and Aerospace museum off the same exit. Short drive from Lincoln there is the town of Seward where the world's largest covered wagon and world's largest Time Capsule is as well if you want to see some unique things.

Yes! The California coast is something you definitely need to highlight. A ghost town near death valley just isn't it. That's not what you should highlight about California. The coast from San Francisco to San Diego is where it's at.

I agree. They could also do like Eaman and Bec did for a long time. They had a shovel for "toilet duty." They would dig a hole and bury their "business" like the Bible in Leviticus says to do if they were off grid an way form population. The Israelites in Bible times did to keep down disease; unlike people in London only a couple of hundred years ago ,they would just throw it in the streets. That is why London had so much disease. Granted you could not do that in town but it would be fine in the woods or out in the desert.
Yes, I was a little shocked when I saw that. Urine is highly biodegradable and "returns to the earth" just like every time a wild animal pees in the wilderness...I don't get this at all. Are modern humans so far removed from the "earth" that they don't understand that humans lived without septic systems for thousands of years? Digging a hole for #2 is something they train in the military and for other off-grid camping. Why would you waste fuel finding an official "dump station??

If you haven't been to one of the great lakes, I think you'll be surprised at how much like an ocean it feels. However, the great lakes loop would likely have you bypass Door County and the scenic beauty of Door County is dear to me. I will be following you from a little ole dusty outback town in Western Australia. Good luck with your travels

@@KaraandNate *I like very much your vlogs with van or the roads around the United States* ❤️❤️❤️
You just know that Kara and Nate never dissapoint. Thank you for always delivering amazing content!
Awwww that’s lovely to hear, thank you🥰❤️
Why don’t y’all just turn each side into a Murphy bed that folds from each side onto the table? Then each side folds up onto the wall. The are super simple and cheap to build.
they'd have to move their cabinets
That would close off the windows plus make it difficult to use the table comfortably.
Omg, Im so excited for you guys to come to Massachusetts! Go to my hometown, Salem! 😁

Rhode Island is small, but there's some really great stuff there! The beaches on the southern half of the state are beautiful, even when it's too cold to swim!
Newport is amazing and has a lol bit of everything from fun tiny shops and excellent food, to an amazing winery and beautiful beaches, never mind the gorgeous mansions.
Hi guys! 25 yr old New jersian traveler dreamer here. 🥰 Just make sure you come to the East Coast in the summer because it’s terrible in the winter! New Jersey has some really fun things to do and if you’re ever this way I would love to show you around! Love, Jordan
I lived two years in New York. Summer sucks there too 🥵. Spring and fall are the best.
Lol! We can’t win with this crazy weather 😖 but agreed!
Please come back to Maine, there's so much more beyond Portland that you guys didn't see!
I second this! I’m not from Maine (I’m from Boston) but I love road tripping to Maine because it really is such a beautiful state! Acadia National park and bar harbor are awesome.
I’m from Bar Harbor and I will second this ❤️
Or stop at the Lobster Shack at Two Lights south of Portland
You can buy the extra pee tanks, they are made by Nature’s head. We have the same toilet at our cabin.
Jesus Christ people, why don't they just pee in the woods FFS? Who pees indoors when camping?

When you come to Ohio, be sure to check out the SE part of the state in the Hocking Hills region....I’m only about 20 minutes away and have a driveway that you can power up in and use some amenities before you start wandering the hills, trails, back roads and caves.
Hocking hills state park is really really cool. Not very long hiking trails but they all lead to beautiful caves!
I submitted Hockey Hills and Cedar Point. I'd love a Hocking Hills video more. My husband and I got married there years ago.
You're awesome! So sweet for that offer and suggestions 😊☺
I just got done submitting an idea for them to visit SE OH, including Hocking, Athens and all the surrounding areas. I don’t live in that area anymore... but I’m keeping my fingers crossed they visit the area instead of focusing on bigger cities!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
BRING BACK THE COFFEE INTRO WE NEEEEEEDDDDD ITTTTTTTTTT
Hi Kara and Nate, Glad to see that your travels continue! Please don’t forget to discuss at some point your internet issues and how you addressed them. I think a lot of people would appreciate your insight!
As soon as they said they were going to fix the toilet situation, I was like “I hope Nate’s not going to do it himself!” We all know how well that usually works out. 😂
When you’re in Arkansas you gotta come to the Eureka Springs area! Beautiful hiking, driving and some cute small town charm!
I recommended the same to them on the form! Definitely a unique place.
Love Eureka Springs! All of NW Arkansas is really beautiful but Eureka is completely unique.
Eureka Springs is my favorite place to vacation!
Afterwards they could tour the Ellsworth Cheese Curd Factory😁😁
Kara's face when she hears about the tanks not working out and then accepts it...
... is the entire world in the morning of January 1st of 2021, realizing the pandemic ain't over yet lmao
When will it end😮 we all want the world to be normal again😁😁
It will end when you decide you've been fooled enough, and bring it to an end. Nice people can never believe how much they've been lied to.
@@jeanburk9539 Exactly! Going on a year of this and people still believing the propaganda....smdh.
Nate trying his absolute hardest to sell Kara on the new mattress is so funny and endearing to me.

When you come to Indiana, the only Albanese Candy Factory is in Northwest Indiana! Really magical and super fresh, yummy candy!
So weird how popular our local candy shop has become!
So excited to hear about this goal.. its been a dream of mine forever! I highly recommend that when you get to Minnesota you start in Duluth and head up what us Minnesotans call the North Shore of Lake Superior! Well, you aren't too far from Ohio and Hocking Hills State Park and region is insanely beautiful in the winter. It has some of the largest recess caves in the United States. I can provide a link to almost every waterfall in the park as well the ones most don't know about as well some other unique Geological features throughout the area.
I second this! Hocking Hills is probably the best place to go in Ohio for them!
^^^^Yes Hocking Hills!!!
Can we get a fourth?
Will he be allowed to film there ? They had trouble before in filming in parks. >>> ua-cam.com/video/RHvHn9hs1MY/v-deo.html
Seems it's against the law to film in National parks, I don't know about State Parks though.
We just stayed in Nebraska for the last year (full-time RV living/windmill job) and our Nebraskan friends gave us some amazing recommendations for the Lincoln/Omaha area:
Lincoln: Sunken Gardens Park (gorgeous sunken flower garden and waterfalls within the downtown area), Pioneer Park (huuuuge park with lots of nature trails), Cornhusker game, Haymarket shopping (The Mill coffee is delicious), breakfast at Cultiva, Capitol building free tour, Exhale by Haile has the best facials if you need a restful day, Other Room (secret speakeasy in Haymarket: Make sure Kylar is making your drinks!), and eat at Casa Bovina (Piedmontese beef, best beef ever).
That new bed looks like a great upgrade to your van! Getting a great night's sleep is critical to keeping happy and motivated while on the road. Sorry the water tank didn't work out. I'm planning to add an idea for you on the Form for Pennsylvania. Looking forward to more of your adventures!
Agree with you :) A good sleep is always needed :)
I was really looking forward to Kara seeing the CA coast for the first time, maybe y'all can do that in a future video. And good luck on your adventure, I submitted some recommendations for a few midwest states. I'm from CA originally but have spent the last 8 years on and off in the midwest and I've done a few cool and very midwest things. I hope ya'll like the suggestions or at the very least find them intriguing. :)
Yes! The California coast is something you definitely need to highlight. A ghost town near death valley just isn't it. That's not what you should highlight about California. The coast from San Francisco to San Diego is where it's at.

I don’t understand why you can’t dump urine “off grid.” It’s not like animals travel to a gas station to pee...
Or just pee outside directly and spare yourself the tank. At least some of the time.
what do you mean?
Probably a law preventing the dumping of a grey water tank.
I just woke up, saw this video and now everything else I was planning to do has been put on pause until I’m finished.

I could be your typical Canadian and laugh because -2C is considered shorts and T-shirts’ weather up here XD (We had -20C plus windshield last week)
But if you’re not used to it, -2C can feel very cold. Like a -5C in November feels SO much colder than a -5C in March because we get used to the cold after a while. But if you’re not used to it, it can be uncomfortable.

Those Millard tri fold mattresses are great! We have two singles that we use for camping. They do take up a lot of room in the car but 100% worth it to not wake up on the hard Colorado ground in the middle of the night when your air mattress inevitably deflates. The optional case with handles makes them easy to carry, the mattress covers are washable, and they double as a super comfy guest bed on carpet when we need it!

Wisconsin girl here - I agree with others who said the Lake Michigan loop for a scenic drive. If you haven't been to one of the great lakes, I think you'll be surprised at how much like an ocean it feels. However, the great lakes loop would likely have you bypass Door County and the scenic beauty of Door County is dear to me. If you are willing to detour up the "thumb" of Wisconsin, I recommend going to Washington Island and Rock Island and hitting up the wineries on the way up. May is lovely when the cherries are blossoming. OR, more in the heart of Wisconsin, visit a couple Frank Lloyd Wright sites, Taliesen, and the House on the Rock. I always thought the House on the Rock was cheesy, but it makes appearances in lots of novels and shows because it's just weird.
