WWF Raw and WCW Nitro go head-to-head in "Reliving The War", a series on Wrestling Bios where we go back in time, looking at every episode of Raw and Nitro during the popular "Monday Night Wars" era of professional wrestling.
This weeks shows would prove to be landmark episodes of both Monday Night Raw and Monday Nitro. On the WCW side, the very first Sting vs Hulk Hogan match would air for free in the Nitro main event. Sting and Hulk Hogan would later break WCW PPV records, but here on Nitro we got to see the Hogan vs Sting match for the very first time. Over on WWF Raw, Shawn Michaels' push to the WWF championship would begin when Shawn collapses in the ring. Shawn has a match with Owen Hart, and when Owen hits an enziguri on Michaels, Shawn collapses and Raw goes off the air. Shawn would return at the 1996 Royal Rumble, winning the Rumble match while earning a WWF Championship match against Bret Hart at WrestleMania XII.
Wrestlers and personalities featured on this episode include Brian Pillman, Road Warrior Hawk, Savio Vega, Diesel, Hakushi and more.

Every time you call Barry the "Resident Evil 4 Merchant" I can't help but laugh. I think it's not going to get me but bam! Hilarious.
What’re ya sellin’? Big Daddy Cool action figures!
@@stephendonaldson2520 aaahhh …. I’ll buy it at a high price
I am going to be devastated when every episode of Nitro vs Raw has finally been covered
The war ended in 2001.
We're still in 1995
Yeah this show is awesome
@@Thebossstage1 I shall cherish the journey
I hope he see’s this comment and in a way does this for the brand split around 2002 and put that weeks SD vs Raw and see which show was better that week
Derlavan You still have more than 5 years before that will happen, so I wouldn’t really worry about it
I had the HBK denim jacket. My grandma ordered it for me for Christmas that year. It did arrive until late March 😂 but it was nice, had it for years and ended up giving it to my friend for his wrestling collection along with the Brian pillman memorial shirt.
Ironically around WM 12? 😆
Man WWE Shop is slow sometimes.
These weekly segments makes me feel like I was when my dad and I would get all excited to watch nitro and raw. We would get pizza or make popcorn and nachos or just get take out every week. I actually had my boss give me Monday nights off to watch the Monday night wars since he had the night off too and was a huge wrestling fan
The best series on UA-cam. Look forward to this every week. Brings back memories from my childhood... I really am “reliving the war”.
Yeah some of these other channels trying to imitate this are pathetic
@@avataz This is by far the best wrestling channel today bar none. The vids this guy does are very well done.
Truest statement ever
Amen to that
Same! I cant wait for 97-99 especially
This series is currently my weekly wrestling program
amazing that hogan was only 42 here, he looks so much older
Hogan has looked in his mid 50s since the 80s
@@baseupp12 The guy wrestled like he was in his 50s his whole career. But he could still sell a dime
@@baseupp12
Oddly enough because he always looked old when he did get old he didn't actually age that much
Even when he was in his 20's he looked at least 50 in his first book he said he started losing his hair in his late teens.
@@theshakter i dont think it was his wrestling that attractes people it was the character but i think thats obvious 30 to 25 years later
I remember thinking hogan was boring as a kid. Rewatching as an adult he is still burning. But persona is was got him over I guess. Bc I know sometime I still throw “brother!” into conversations today like him.
The hulk without a moustache it doesn't seem right
Looks like Russ Abbot
franticplanet.files.wordpress.com/2018/07/01.jpg
It just feels outta place
I feel like they did it on purpose to make Hogans dark side character have a new distinguishable element from normal hogan
He looks like Superstar Billy Graham, incidentally that’s who he modeled his look after to begin with.
@@jjreider8668 the beard especially during his Hollywood run
It's must be Wednesday because it's time for Reliving the War
I definitely still remember the whole Shawn Micheals collapsing thing. It stuck with me, as like everyone else at that time, i was convinced it was real & was scared for Shawn.
Ya mark! Kidding, kidding. That’s pretty cool that they made it work that well.
@@Thor-Orion Shawn is one of the only wrestlers that was good enough to sell it as real. No one today could except AJ or Dolph, maybe.
BBR Racing everyone back then could sell. That’s the biggest difference and the one not enough people point to as the reason for the product going downhill. As for some others today who can sell, i like Daniel Bryan, and i’m a huge fan of Drew Galloway, the dude has it all in my opinion, but he is too big and strong to do an angle like this with him. However back then anyone who was Shawn or Bret’s size could do it. Bret was every bit as good as Shawn (i prefer Bret, but it’s totally acceptable to prefer Shawn, they’re both at least 9/10s in the ring just with different specialties) and was an absolutely spectacular seller.
Or am i off by a belt dropping?
Best series possibly ever. Great stuff WB !
Of the most underrated things about this channel that I haven’t seen anyone comment since the 1st episode but your presentation is top notch man.
His presentation is perfection
Man who needs to watch todays product when we can watch Reliving The War. I have enjoyed this series Wrestling Bios. I can't wait till we get to 1997-1998, my two favorite years of the Monday Night War for both companies.
I’ve been watching old wrestling from WWF, WCW, ECW and it was very different they took shots at each other it was non PC and u didn’t see someone get upset bout in this WWE vs AEW, I’ll be honest AEW to me is just an alternative
Same here
@@Kas58223 I've been a fan since the mid 90's. I was there for most of the war. No offense to todays fans.. But this so called war between NXT and AEW is like Sunday Night Heat going up against Velocity lol. That's why I like channels like this.. we can relive the great days of the past. I just can't get into todays wrestling as much as I try.. I stopped watching after Wrestlemania 36. I take nothing away from todays wrestlers, but the days of true star power, having unique charisma and cutting a good promo seem to be a thing of the past and those ingredients are what made wrestling so special. I think another thing that has hurt wrestling is simply that everyone is so easily offended and are way too sensitive. Don't get me wrong I say this to everyone If you like todays product more power to you but to me it isn't appealing anymore the excitement is gone. That's just my opinion though.
the best wrestling content on youtube, this reliving the war series especially
Just showing my appreciation again mate,
As always... thank you for doing this!!
Thank you for getting me through some dark times in my life. The last year and change has been rough but your videos have kept me pushing through.
My pleasure. If the videos help out and make people forget about any problems, then I'm doing my job :) Take care Matt.
H
Eddie Guerrero was a workhorse.
You’re a channel I never stop watching man. Happy you made this series I always look forward to it.
Wow, probably the earliest I've been. Great work man
Hahah same, it’s exciting haha
Excellent
I look forward to these vids like I looked forward to watching Friday night TV (Fresh Prince! South Park! Simpsons!) when I was like 12. Nice one!
Who else is feeling like Diesel in 2020?
Really looking forward to every Wednesday for this content. Great stuff!!
Dang! I love the way you mix the two intro themes together . It almost sounds like they actually go together
*Fun Fact* Hogan was so shook of this crowd reaction, at the very start of the next ppv, he burned the darkside outfit and kissed Stings ass blatantly. Hulkster got a real scare of becoming heel here lol, as he was when he eventually did.
Love the series!! Keep it up
These reviews really make me want to go back and watch some of these old shows. This looks like a pretty good RAW.
My birthday is November 20 1981. I remember being absolutely devastated going to bed on my 14th birthday because I loved Shawn Michaels. I remember saying a legit prayer for Shawn's recovery that night.
This is better than watching current wwe
These videos are great. I lived thru the wars as a teen and these memories and your breakdown are just great. Thank u
It's been good to fill in the gaps in my memory, the earliest stuff i remember as a kid was when NWO happened and Sting became Crow Sting.
This is a great idea for a series. Love this channel.
“Doc Hendricks has been on the good ole white powder” lmfaooooooooo
Wwwwwweeeeellllll....😂😂😂
Patiently look forward and wait for this every week!! Ohhh the nostalgia🙂 love it! There was nothing like being a wrestling fan in '95-2001
i look forward to this series every week.. awesome job man
RE4 reference returns I love it
I just can't get enough of this series. Wish there was as big a back catalog as the other wrestling bios vids. Can't wait till we get to the Raw vs Smackdown stuff in the future & eventually AEW vs NXT. Keep it going man
Another solid episode! I look forward to these every week. Keep it up!
Dude these videos are perfection! Thank you for making these videos! They keep me entertained and bring back memories!
Thank you so much for doing these videos, This was such a woderful time of my childhood, Its so great to go back in time, I will never forget me and my brothers really thought that shawn was hurt, And the Diesel promo was so far ahead of its time !
I just wanted to say I love this series. I decided to rewatch the Monday night war Era myself week by week, then I found this series. It's the perfect companion piece for my viewing journey. Very well done.
These get better every week thank you
I just turned 17 in October as this "war" began....good memories...this series is pure genius and you do an incredible job covering it...keep at it my friend
O HELL YEAH!!! Thank you for making this series it is amazing i watched all of them back to back been waiting for a new episode lol
Best part of my week. Keep it up man.
1-2-3 Kid, Hakushi, Razor Ramon, Savio Vega, Chris Candido, Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Bret Hart The WWF I grew up on. I still have that Shawn Michaels jacket btw
If you grew up knowing Savio Vega, you probably grew up knowing Kwang as well.
@@AMP3083official of course lol I forgot to mention British Bulldog, Lex Luger, Mable, etc. 1995 Royal Rumble is 2nd favorite next to 1997 Rumble.
I love this series, it’s the highlight of my nite watching it
Bien waiting on this.... you single handedly brought me back to wrestling.
Thanks for ending the day with another great video. 👍
Thanks for your incredible job ! I’m a fan your videos!
I look forward to this every week. I cant wait till next week. And im so going to subscribe to the podcast.
I've watched this series front to back so many times, I can't freaking wait until we get the the attitude era proper! This has quickly become my favorite UA-cam channel.
Amazing as always. Keep up the great work you are very entertaining and very knowledgeable of the wrestling business
Another amazing video keep up the amazing work n I literally look forward to seeing this every week bro
Keep uploading this memories from the golden times of pro wrestling 👍
Love your Docs they are great
Great series and channel, it's very nostalgic to reminisce about the old WWF days
Just caught on to these. Thanks great work
11:36 likes Savio that much you said it twice
"Say everything twice. Say everything twice."
I've heard that Diesel segment referred to as the first time Vince being the owner was ever acknowledged in KayFabe.
the best series on youtube period
Sunny in her prime... wow!
This series is phenomenal 😍
“Dok Hendrix is on the good ole white powder.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have been eagerly awaiting this video. Thank you again for the awesome work WB
I love these episodes your doing !!!
Love that theme
Been waiting for this all day
Really good idea. I've been binge watching like crazy
Crazy to think Bam Bam was headlining Mania XI in the April, and by November he was gone! His face turn wasn’t that great in fairness!
Excellent work!!
My mum still has that HBK denim jacket 😂
Move to Wrestling Bios, Live Thru Wrestling Bios YAAAAAA! CHEERS MATE
The reaction of people in the crowd with the Shawn Michaels moment was one of those moments wrestling bookers dream of when you push kayfabe to the max. Along with the diesel interview, this show foreshadowed the way wrestling was going. The ratings loss probably scared Vince when it came to continuing down this track, but had he have then who knows of the 80+ weeks would have occurred.
Best UA-cam series by far
i loved when i forget who it was when they encontered Dox said
that Michael Hayes guy is over rated hack , then Dox breaks kayfabe and says you want the freebird you'll get the freebird
Dok*
This is one of those rare times you'll see Hogan do an actual suplex and it doesn't look like he is about to pass out.
This is an awesome series. I can’t wait until you get to January 29th! That Nitro was my first live event!!!
"Vince Mcmang" 😂😂😂
Love your videos. A Great Muta wrestling bio ??? Would love to see
Diesel became a tweener after droping the belt to hart. It was very interesting to see him been half face half heel, it was something we would see during the attitude era but in that new generation Era it was very rare to have that kind of tweener character.
Of course HBK vs Owen Hart was gonna be hard to beat for a main event!
11:00
RE4 merchant gets me every time 👍🏻😂😂👍🏻.
"A wild shark appears" Oh man I love you. XD
Awesome show as always
Must admit was not a fan of the Monday nite war concept at first but as episodes go on i find myself reliving child hood over . keep up good work...
That Owen German was ALWAYS a thing of beauty. I always loved watching he and Bret wrestle because I was hoping they would bust a German with a bridge out because they didn’t do it TOO often. I also remember being a kid and crying when this match ending happened because I thought HBK was actually hurt and he was my fav wrestler at the time.
This series is great its gonna get even better in 96 and especially 97
As always great video
Aja Kong is an unknown? Cool
To purely WWE (WWF) fans she was.
Back then living in the UK and pre internet I only had access to WWE but even then I thought she was (still is) obviously a legend in Japan.
Yea that was pretty insulting.
I remember both of these shows on this day like it was yesterday. Sting vs hulk Hogan was good as they were still teasing a Hogan heel turn. Shame that match ended in a no contest Shawn collapsing in the middle of the ring was crazy. As a kid I thought this was real like the fans did and was just absolutely shocked at what happened. Good job on the wwf for pulling that angle and fooling everybody.
another great episode!
Nothing says we're in the 90s like diesel's busy ass polo, black leather jacket, with matching fanny pack!
at 13:16 look how pissed Eric is at Mongo spieling the ending haha
Oh yeah can't wait for that next week episode
Resident evil 4 merchant cracks me up every time 😆😆😆
The wildcard match at SS95 was great. Lots of fun and so many booking possibilities through a match like that. And the Diesel/Bret match was fantastic. Probably Diesel's best match ever, and might be in Bret's top 10, which is saying a lot. Absolutely felt like a real fight, not a wrestling match 👍
I liked that PPV. The only good PPV of 1995. The wild card match was fun.
After last week and this week, compared to previous episodes, that WCW and WWF really started hitting their stride in the war.
Nice face paint job on the Shark. The WCW face paint artist was killing it in 1995.
Dammit another win for RAW, it was almost a clean sweep too. Man WCWs gotta pick up the pace here soon!!!! also I always mark out for myself when I see my name in the ending lmao. Another excellent Reliving the War!!!
Owen was so damn fun to watch. Insanely skilled and technical.
