I bought the XH1 last year. I think it’s currently the best bang for buck in the used Fuji market. IBIS, submonitor, deep grip, robustness, optional battery grip. It’s only downside is the weight.

Agreed. With the grip it gets pretty heavy.

The X-T3 gets so much more love but the X-H1 was released about the same time and has a decent grip and IBIS. I wouldn't swap my X-H1 for an X-T3.

Loved your overview, Scott, of the X-H1. Have a few H1's (each w/grips/boost), they remain a solid part of our vid work (mostly B roll, but they still work fine for leads too), the image files remain a treat to work with for smaller print work (say op to 20 x 30 reflective), and completely fine for small to large web uses (backlit), love Fuji color. We are now three sets deep of the H2 (bodies/grips), and sure, they lead in most client work for vid/stills, however, don't discount the strengths of the H1. Give the H1 (or any camera) session a little OCF (two light), and the H1's punch higher than their weight regarding shadow detail/noise. Portrait sessions with the H1 and the OG 56mm 1.2F, for example, produce wonderful skin tones and complementary skin treatment that doesn't look over baked. The H2 and the new 56mm 1.2 also produce very fine portraits, but, the devil can be in the details, too much detail. While I've adapted to the H2 and the options that exist with the new sensor, ask me which one I love to pick up and shoot?.........easy to use, built like a tank, great dynamic range, the H1 is still a great/valid camera in 2023. OCD shooters peep at split screens in post, clients believe in your skills to deliver great work. The H1 still delivers.

I have the H2 and not liking the High ISO output. Would you say the H1 is better but that regard? I wish they would have kept the dials of the X-H1

    • @hmg7871
      @hmg7871 Рік тому

@josephinevera9966. If pushed to less than stellar high ISO (H2), I've found the new denoise tools bring files back around without a significant concern and keep great (Fuji) color and shadow detail. To help, I shoot with fast glass options to give the best possible outcome for low light situations for either H1/H2. Give either a bit of natural light and a tripod, and you can produce some great files, with depth. Studio or other with OCF, and the files stand up well by just about any measure, with natural limitations for larger print requirements. If not printing huge, either of these bodies and good glass, technique, will deliver very impressive files. Hope that helps.

I purchased the xh1 about 6 months ago for 40% less than my new xs10 bought one year ago. These were my first proper cameras. Basically I wanted a camera with the dials. The xh1 is a camera I find hard to fault. Ok it's alot heavier than my XS10, which when coupled with the fuji xf f2wr, is a lovely light package. However, the XH1 has twin card slots, a bigger evf, weather sealing, side sd card slots, very nice grip and of course the ISO and shutter speed dials. Coupled with the F2 lens it's a weather sealed package. I have no regrets about adding it and can see no reason, other than either one breaking, to ever buy another camera. I'm only a keen amateur and at 76 years of age I think they'll do me. The benefit of having two cameras is I usually carry two, one with the 18-55 and one with the 50-230 fc lens as I'm not particularly keen on changing lenes when out.
So Scott Im 100% behind your contention that although this is now a 6 year old camera it is still a great purchase second hand.

The very first camera I purchased back in 1987 was a Minolta x700. I bought it brand new and that camera and myself were inseparable; it made me want to shoot so turned me into a better photographer. I purchased the Fujifilm xh1 last year, and it makes me feel the exact same way. It's design is intuitive, thoughtful, rugged, retro and modern at once. Most importantly its image quality is stunning and beautifully accurate. All of these qualities combined make this camera more easily an extension of my mind's eye. I love this camera.

Great review and it helped push me to pull the trigger as I now have an X-H1 on the way. My primary cam is an X-T2 w/handgrip, and in many it is the perfect camera. With the X-H1, I'm most looking forward to a more sizeable grip with forward shutter button, the improved EVF, and most importantly IBIS. Excited to see how it works with my manual Rokinon 135mm F2 but also to see if it brings additional benefit to the Tamron 18-300 that has OIS. IBIS is really what I most wanted from the X-T5/X-H2, and instead of spending more, I've decided to lean up/switch up my kit and have a single high-performing tool with a few lenses. Also, hard to argue with the value.

Hi Scott. Good video as usual. I had the same sort of feelings as you did about the X-H1 design compared to the X-T range. 2 weeks ago I finally decide to add an X-H2 to my line-up of X-T and X-Pro bodies and I am really happy with the new camera. I have the optional battery grip because I like the extra stability I feel that I get as well as the ease of doing portrait shots and so far I am really enjoying using it.

    Thank you for this video.
Just purchased the body only. Ordered the grip from MPB in excellent condition for $35. An issue not addressed with this body are the firmware updates. Upon release the XH1 was an OK body. The firmware updates fixed the camera and it is better than it was upon release. The videos you mention are several years old and talk about a camera that no longer exists. Maybe the firmware updates and improved performance is worthy of a video.
I may have to grow into this body. When I purchased the body a couple days ago I walked around downtown Seattle. No surprise but this body is too heavy and large for street photography. I have other Fuji body better designed for that task. I’m interested in starting to do video. This is a well speced body for my needs and ability.

I bought my X-H1 new durning the fire sale in late 2019. (right before the pandemic) for only $999 US, with the grip, batteries and the SD card. And I'll part with that camera only when one of us two dies.
Fuji shot itself in the foot course about six months after the release of this camera (the last one with the X-Trans III sensor), it came with the X-T3 (X-Trans IV) with a far better specs, at least on paper. Till now they never did that mistake agin...

I love my XH-1. To a fault. :D Though having a chance to use a Sony A7 IV led me astray due to the battery life of those things. Now I'm using my XH-1 set for personal use and the Sony for work, tried selling my XH-1 but the resale value is somewhat irritating. Would rather just use it til its end of life than sell it dirt cheap. :D Great video bro, will look out for more.

I picked one up when I got my Biden check. Lucky to find that one seller in China that has the better batteries for it at half the price as it takes 3 with grip. Normally that would have been another 180 bucks. Keep.your camera in boost mode, folks, with or without the grip.

During 2023 I have purchased two XH-1 bodies to run alongside my XT20 and XT1. I see no reason to go chasing the dragon and getting the XH2/XH2s, both of which are uncomfortably more expensive. I have no interest in better video and 40mp of the XT5 etc is more than I need at the present time - so the XH-1 is a bargain solution for me.

haha ! I did also sell my X100 to get an X-H1, guess we shared the same thoughts.
The X-H1 has been my primary camera for video / event work and most of my personal work as well (even though I have too many cameras on the side), and it's been an incredible performer for me. I bought it for 650€ (with 3 batteries, vertical grip and 9V power adapter, pretty decent deal imho) and for me, if someone wants to use Fujifilm for some paid work, no camera will get a better value than the X-H1, not even the X-T3 (for me). The X-T4 is better, but also twice as expensive usually, I doubt it would be justified.
It isn't the best in anything, but it's good enough for everything, and if you know what you're doing, well there is very little chance that you'd actually need much more than what it can already offer. 11fps burst isn't anythig to scuff at, same goes for the 24MP resolution, and the amount of dynamic range the camera is able to get. I'musing it paired with an X-T2, and I fail to see how I could replace any of those without it being a compromise to how I use my gear and / or my work flow. And besides, the only thing that would push me to pgrade is GAS, and nothing else as the X-H1 is already the best camera I've owned so far.

Digital, especially mirrorless are sharper, but the whites have no details and the blacks turn ultra black suddenly. They look unnatural. What I want to mean, they lack tonality. The photos, even taken 100 years ago( mostly in Big format/ Mid format), have that tonality. The modern digital cameras have not recreated that look yet.
