Navigata Exactly I love his armor and his scythe. The stage was also a lot of fun. There really needs to be a DLC like there was for Plague Knight. I really want to know more about him, especially his life before he was revived as the Lord of the Dead to serve the Enchantress. Considering how awesome Plague of Shadows was it can just be good.
One of the biggest factors of any game's quality is its music. Gameplay is the biggest factor, DUH, but a memorable soundtrack will make the game all the more...well...memorable. Games like Castlevania, Megaman, and Kingdom Hearts are largely known for their stunning soundtracks. You play a Call of Duty game and what do you take from it? "I shot shit." You play a Castlevania game and what do you take from it? "I went on a fucking adventure!" Why? Gameplay is a huge factor, but if the music does not compliment the setting in an entertaining, noticeable way, there is only so much gameplay can do by itself. An "average" level can feel absolutely beyond-badass with an awesome track guiding you through the level. Gamer's test: If you can have the same game experience with a game both with sound AND on mute, its not a very good game.
I agree that a games music is its core but modern games like call of duty and such make use of largely orchestrated monster pieces in their campaigns which are can be highly complex and really badass. The thing about this kind of music is that the melodies are really simple so they are highly memorable and easy to jam to
Ahmad Nieves haha true that man! :D yeah, when the whole soundtrack is this good, its hard to say which is best, this one might even be better, there are just so many good ones!
This game really should have inspired more covers on youtube, sucks that there aren't many so I decided to dedicate a guitar cover to this track, it's the best theme from this game.
Like a week ago, specter knights campaign's title as well as specter knights skills were revealed. It is strange because I have seen no one else mention it all. Not on miiverse not on steam and not on youtube.
In my book, Jake Kaufman is up there with Koji Kondo and Manami Matsumae (Who also composed for this game) when it comes to the greatest video game composers. This soundtrack gives me chills its so good! It may be one of the main reasons why this game is my favorite of 2014. It's presentation is amazing, the gameplay mechanics and design are brilliant, and this soundtrack is PHENOMENAL! So, tenouttaten.
Holy. Crap. In all my years of listening to Video Game Music, I never thought I could find something so...amazing...threatening...and catchy as heck! Jake Kaufman is a musical Genius- no, scratch that- a musical *GOD*!
Mr. Boohemoth He doesn't get better, he doesn't make his remixes better than the original, he makes it it's own entity. it's own song. check out all of the Burning Town remixes. each one is fresh as well as great in its own way.
One of the best tracks in the game. This, In the hall of the Usurper and An Underlying Problem. The Faithful Return and The Schemer are pretty great too.
it's a genre of art that illustrates that death makes all equal and usually depicts the dead from all walks of life dancing to a grave. Danse macabre = dance of death.
The dark portions of this level would have been absolutely miserable without this frankly incredible theme keeping me pumped up on my first playthrough 😅
+PortalDark Oh, so it was confirmed to be King Knight as the third? I was still holding out for Treasure Knight: I wanted to Spider-Man through the stages with my anchor-cannon... All well; the "cheating" gameplay of King Knight sounds like it'll be amusing/fun. And Specter Knight has been confirmed to be next, for those who were wondering.
+Kevin Manzano they did spritework for spectre knight yesterday, and it looks like you can climb on walls, like ninja gaiden games of old, and im excited for that!
after years of listening to only Specter of Torment OST, it feels kind of weird coming back to a more relaxed/slower version of this song even if it's the original one 😭
@@eagle3802 before SOT(Specter of Torment) La Danse Macabre was just a cool song about the dead or the Lich Yard considering when translated its called The Macabre Dance or as other people say Undead Rave I think, after playing Specter Knight's story as Donovan before Shovel of Hope and hearing Hidden by Night in the Lich Yard, La Danse Macabre just sounds like a more depressed version of Hidden by Night since obviously Specter didn't want to be there in the first place
For fuck sake ... that is how you make an awesome new classic ost that can live on in our ears and memories .... oh the whole soundtrack of this legendary game is fucking addictive to our ears .. I am glad that i was born in nes era and sega genesis era and the ps1 era these memories are so dear to me that I wont forget until i die , hell ... I,ll make them my family legacy and on for my kids and grand kids .. the crazy thing is that all my family members which is 87 love all the old classics like contra ... castlevania .. gradius ... Ya see Keiji Inafune this is how you create a kickass soundtrack in a game btw i dont think yacht club games has never made a game before so if this was there first attempt then kickass job for them.Great game.
The bard sure knows how to riff.
I always imagine that the bard is jake kaufman.
alphayak
I mean he DOES have details on all the songs. Maybe it is Kaufman.
***** Kaufman Knight! He slays evil with his awesome music!
alphayak
The Bard is indeed meant to represent him.
Also think about it he is very happy when you have the music sheets he lost, so maybe...
Simon Belmont and Mega Man having a dance-off
And a baby, a MegaGloomy baby
This is the greatest image I have ever created in my mind.
Ganymede, Jupiter III now in smash bros
:v
To be fair, SK does play a lot like a fusion of the two games.
[crouching intensifies]
ah yes, the highest honor a gamer can bestow
the only reason they would add a crouch button its to dance, it literally doesnt serve any other purpouse
@@foszzz4833hell yeah thats the only reason i added one to a simple game i had to do for a project
My favorite stage and favorite knight. This sounds like Simon Belmont could be the character you control.
+Nightblade Hawk Definitely the coolest knight, and most fun boss fight.
Navigata Exactly I love his armor and his scythe. The stage was also a lot of fun.

Well, Specter of torment is out now for the Nintendo Switch, You're welcome.
Excuse me, but Specter Knight is cancer. STAY STILL YOU UNDEAD SACK OF SH!T AND QUIT BLOCKING MY FIREBALLS!
@@nbHawkeye Aged like wine. The campaign was incredible.
This is easily the best song in the game IMO. Wish there were more covers/ remixes of it
+RadMartigan This one and "High above the Land" are both amazing area themes.
Spectre Knight and Plague Knight campaigns.
RadMartigan Specter of torment
Just Shapes and Beats
Your wish became true :)
This is heart-wrenching to listen to now that I've seen Spectre of Torment.

alligatorar I stick with my original statement.
i was agreeing w u

Favorite track in the game. So epic and emotional.
Ahmad Nieves it's up there! haha yeah, i think that strike the earth will always be my favorite, but this one is still amazing
Ardashes Najarian Strike the Earth is a close second for me. I just hope future dlc or maybe its sequel will have even better music.
Ahmad Nieves haha true that man! :D yeah, when the whole soundtrack is this good, its hard to say which is best, this one might even be better, there are just so many good ones!
One of the best composed osts ever. Right as I finished the level, I knew I had to listen to this theme again.
an ironically lively tune for a grave yard, nevertheless it's still freaking awesome
Thats why its called "la Danse Macabre." Lol
(G)rave yard
One of the best songs
1:18 I'm in love with this part
i ALWAYS come back to this theme...just about as often as i come back to High Above The Land.
Seriously, This whole fucking soundtrack is AWESOME!
*The Enchantress* is just full of surprises... She gave me new life... that I may listen to this once more!
This level: ahem. Welcome. TO THE DIFFCULT SPIKE
this is a rare time where the remix is just as good as the original. i’m talking about the shirobon remix for jsab
Sounds very Castlevania-like. Perfect feel for this stage.
Still can't believe how good this game was along with the great dlcs which fit together with the main story so perfectly.
Probably my favorite theme. Like mega man 2 and castlevania had a baby.
Dimitri irtimiD mine too. i spend a lot of time in that stage just to listen more and more that awesome music!
the part at 1:34 SLAYS me
I see what you did there.
DryTheMeowstic +Tylerburrito I don't get it
Smithy082 It's a Caslevania reference.
Such an awesome mix of Mega Man and Castlevania sounds
This game really should have inspired more covers on youtube, sucks that there aren't many so I decided to dedicate a guitar cover to this track, it's the best theme from this game.
Shirobon remixed it into JSaB, you may know that by now.
i came from the dead to listen to this theme

What about Yoko Shimomura? She's an awesome composer too.
Rave Elemental From Street Fighter II and other projects, totally!
DoctorMineshaft Not only that, the Mario&Luigi series, and Xenoblade Chronicles.

Like that? Listen to hidden by night in spectre of torment.
Nathan Kingham that song is to Symphony of the Night, what this song is to old school Castlevania
One of the best tracks in the game. This, In the hall of the Usurper and An Underlying Problem. The Faithful Return and The Schemer are pretty great too.
🎵Just Shovels & Knights🎵
Even the dead can dance in this desolate land.
Bard: "Dead crowd tonight," says I. Lesson learned: Never crack jokes in a graveyard. Never ever.
Best song in the game
Picked this stage first and it did not disappoint
This music and the boss battle music made this stage bearable. Specter knight kicked my ass so many times
Happy 10th anniversary, Shovel Knight
My favorite among the 45 or so tracks, this is pure nostalgia rush.
Love the countermelody at 0:43.
I love this game, an awesome tribute for the old games :)
Oh god it is so catchy I could literally listen an hour loop of this.
My personal favorite. The french title is a nice extra x)
It's actually based on a classic piece with the same name I believe. Don't quote me on that though.
Nick Soepenberg You seem to be right. Thanks for making me discover a sexy classical piece ;)
+Nick Soepenberg I can't seem to find any elements of the classical piece in this- I could be missing something though.
it's a genre of art that illustrates that death makes all equal and usually depicts the dead from all walks of life dancing to a grave. Danse macabre = dance of death.
+Papa Ton And the original wath writen by Camille Saint-Saens
Insane Megaman is back
God damn, that nasty ass bassline! I can't get enough of this song!
This is maybe the best track in the game.
Its soo aweshome

this is one of the best 8bit tunes i've ever heard!
Can't fucking wait for Specter Knight's DLC campaign!! Hope it comes before King Knight.
wait....SPECTER KNIGHT!!?! HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS

shovel knight's ost was inspired by castlevania
IMO best song in the game, perfectly captures the 8 but essence.
This game has one of the best OST i have ever heard
this is my favorite stage hands down
it's literally a dark theme of plains of passage :)
I LOVE IT!!!
Incredible music
Can't wait to hear this motif remixed in Spectre's campaign!!

*I FUCKING WON'T !*
I could listen to this non-stop all day long !
Gotta be honest.
The bard's ghostwriter joke when you hand him this theme was pretty clever.
Fun Fact: In Webster's dictionary, the definition of masterpiece is link to this video.
Watch out for the frogz.
Best song of Shovel Knight
best track
This would make for a great salsa or tango if you ask me.
The Tree's Apprentice nope, cant wrap my head around your suggestion...I wont stop trying though
I can just picture Shovel Knight explore some haunted Asian temple ruins deep in a dark jungle to this song.
2014:wow nice song
2019:giant pink fireball
Did jake know that there was already a Megaman zx/ zx advent song titled "Dance Macabre"?
i didnt play a whole lot of shovel knight but i did beat lich yard and this theme hit really hard
Sounds old but is gold
Makes for a great Castlevania music in the game.

Catchy! 😃 😃
after reading the title and looking at the art, i dont know why this registered as Crypt of the Necrodancer in my head
I was honestly expecting a rendition of "The Danse Macabre" (an amazing orchestral piece) adapted to fit the game. Guess not....
this one is so groovy, like castlevania
Shield Knight is the only knight who you can see their full face
Macabre was the name of a dance that people in the Middle Ages believed in.
They thought that dead people loved to dance when they were, well, dead. And they gave this dance the name "Macabre".
Jake Kaufman back at it again with clever names.
i think he actually named this theme from a orchestra called "danse macabre"
Kang Jae-Mo which was created due to this common belief
dat fuckin bassline, tho!
can't wait to play specter of torment
The vibes I got from this stage:
60% Castlevania
40% Scooby Doo
Good job brain.

HYPNOGLANCE87
Actually, Shovel Knight composer Jake Kaufman already had some games under his belt.
HYPNOGLANCE87 yacht club games is made up of former wayforward employees
