The guitar player Duane Dennison is classically trained & it shows. He’s hardly the hardest working member though. David Wm Sims bass is like a depth charge torpedo & is just as intricate as the guitar. Mac is such an outstanding drummer, he does exactly what needs to be done, he could go flying off the rails if he wanted to. And David Yow is well..... he’s the best front man in rock history.
The Jesus Lizard were/are so &@#%ing bad ass that a species of lizard (basilisk) was nicknamed after the band BEFORE the band had even existed. That’s how awesome the Jesus Lizard are!
The Jesus Lizard are fucking brilliant, "Goat" and "Liar" are must noise-rock albums. David Yow was/is one of the best frontmen, used to get naked all the time live. He was also in a great film not too long ago called "I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore". You should check out Scratch Acid as well, the band the vocalist and bassist was in before Lizard, basically the same but more emphasis on being catchy than menacing.
Top-shelf Chicago band that relegates the vastly overrated Pixies to the attitude-ridden dust-bins of the all but forgettable rock 'icons' of music history. Sorry, but I SAW The Pixies a few times in Boston well before they became the darlings of the 'music world', and they just weren't all that great, certainly nowhere near on par with The Jesus Lizard, musically OR lyrically. I suspect I'll get a lot of shit for saying it out loud, but The Pixies just weren't all that great; OK for chicks, I guess, but that's about it.
