    Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
    With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

    Had a hired man once that couldn’t make the grease gun work after switching tubes, and it sure frustrated him like he was trying to solve e=mc2 and he gave up and grabbed another one to finish. He left for the day I needed it and popped it open and he’d never peeled the cap off. Thankful he didn’t get carpal tunnel from cranking on that thing so many times trying to prime it!

    I actually found this channel by watching Brian's Farming Videos! Watched every one of his videos, then jumped over here and working on catching up on all of these one! As a non-farmer who had a friend as a kid who's dad had a very small western PA farm, i would go for Hay season and help move around hay bales. Always loved that kinda work, but ended up becoming an Architectural Engineer, and found myself with a good ol desk job (when i'm not on site or with a client at least) These Videos have been absolutely a joy to watch, and my engineering brain loves the break downs on how the machines work. Really started back when watching the Hay Baler machine tie the knot on a hay bale all mechanical. no digital relays, sensors, nothing but metal and grease. It blows my mind that people came up with the mechanics behind that so long ago...
    Keep up the great videos! Looking forwards to catching up on your videos so I can finally follow you on Instagram and not worry about the spoilers!

    A 15 gallon oil catch cart would help keep your shop floor from collecting oil. A bulk oil system with a air delivery setup also save the trips back and forth to refill the tractor. We use an air pump to suck the used oil out and into a used 250 gal mini bulk. It all makes things simpler, quicker, and cheaper when you can buy in bulk.

    The skid steer was doing a regen. With you just moving equipment/totes/pallets with it you are not working the engine very hard so regens will be more frequent. When it does a regen it is best to leave it running at the high idle and not shut it off until it is done. We have had a lot of trouble with our newer Deere equipment due to hired help shutting them off while in the middle of a regen.

  • @SkidderKev
    @SkidderKev 4 роки тому

    Skidsteer is doing a regen. Crank up the rpms and let it get hot to do a burn out. Starting it and shutting it off all the time and running it at low rpms will plug up the emission system.

    Its a regeneration cycle, the newer diesel engines have a "Catalytic converter" really just shoots fuel into the exhaust to get rid of soot, at the same time some exhaust is recirculated into the cylinders to reduce the burn temp, and reduce NO emissions, but that causes the diesel particulate filter to clog. The clean out requires a high idle to boost the temp in the filter, my truck does the same thing.

    You should look into getting crushed asphalt. As a diet guy I put it in a lot of driveways as an alternative to concrete or asphalt. It looks nice, and works great for keeping everything clean. You don’t need to track mud and crap in and out of the shop. I put it down in front of our shop this year and we have little to no mud being tracked in. Just a thought...crushed asphalt

    When I was growing up "mid 60s" we would remove the roller chains from the combine roll them up in a bucket put two big hand fulls or grease "no tubes back then" on top then a quart or two of oil and heat the whole thing up. Stir to liquify the grease then put away till next spring. The grease/oil got inside the rollers they were lubed! Very messy in the spring to get them out and ready to use.

    The tractor looks good as is. I would just use it. Whatever scars it wears were earned while the kids’ grandfather and yourself used it. I think it speaks much louder to them as is in the long run. I have a few restored old tractors but our favourite is still our first tractor, it has battle scarred original paint and a welded block but it’s an honest piece. Your dad’s tractor has stories to tell, new paint will erase the memories.

    It's cleaning out the converter and has to run around 1500 rpm for as long as the sensor says it's dirty and can last diffrent amounts of time until it senses that the convertor is clean. It's called a regen .

  • @barrychouinard4019
    @barrychouinard4019 4 роки тому

    Your high idle is an automated regeneration cycle. Basically the inlet and outlet sensors on your diesel particulate filter have identified the soot is building up in the filter, creating restriction, and a regeneration basically increases the exhaust temperature to burn the soot out of the DPF. The light inside was just to warn you the exhaust components are really hot during a regeneration cycle. Will likely take about 20 minutes, can sometimes last up to 40 minutes, and if it's still regenerating after 60 minutes, you might as well shut it down and call your dealer because you don't have the right to repair it. Think of a regeneration cycle as being the same thing as a self cleaning oven. It's just getting so hot it will burn anything and everything. So now you'll be trained to clean your oven in the kitchen! Kind of a simple theoretical system DOC > DPF > Catalyst - that gets really expensive at times because there are way to many wiring harnesses and sensors that when not working exactly as designed will cost you $3500 each time it needs repair. You'll learn it. We all do.

    The skidder is re-gening. Don’t keep turning it on and off while it is doing that. I’m not sure about that particular model but on mine if you interrupt the re-gen three times in a row it will put the machine in limp mode and you will have to have a tech reset it. Love the videos! God bless!
