    My first look at the 2020 Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2! We had 2 adults and 2 small dogs camping with us and it all worked out great! I will be using the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 for backpacking this years so I will keep you updated with the review!
    We make a small commission from Amazon sales and this really helps us out with purchasing future gear for adventures!
    Best wishes Michael & Esme 🐶

    I'm about your size and camp with my pup as well, who is about 30 pounds - but I need living space and opted for limiting myself to a 3-person tent ;) I've been eyeing the 2020 Copper Spur HV UL3 and the 2020 MSR Mutha Hubba NX 3 and couldn't make up my mind. I ended up opting for the Mutha Hubba NX 3 for a couple reasons - 1) I am sort of into the idea of doors being perpendicular to the sleeping arrangement for pups to come and go without trampling a person. 2) The MSR is definitely a heavier fiber, but seems more durable and the extra weight didn't make a significant difference to me. I just camped with it for the first time, and am pleased with it holding up to the rain storm I went through and the ample amount of space. That said, I stumbled upon your channel for this specific video - as well I'm truly enticed by the awning features of those doors. Additionally, from the clarity of your video I can tell you that the pockets on the Copper Spur seem to provide a lot more space and function than the MSR Mutha Hubba (although I sort of decry the headphone loops - I want zero connectivity in the wild). This is also quite enticing, since organization is something I highly value in living space, and getting stuff off the floor means more livability. Because of your video, I may actually end up making a switch out. I think I will miss the durability to the MSR, however.

    • @TheEmporiumOutdoors
      @TheEmporiumOutdoors  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the info and the feedback Chris. I did a lot of research too and I'm happy with my selection. The durability vs weight balance is always a challenge for tent manufactures but many people have used the Copper Spur on thru hikes without issue, and that's a big challenge for any tent! Another huge factor I didn't go into was the additional rainfly the "Copper Hotel HV UL 2 Rainfly" (www.bigagnes.com/Copper-Hotel-HV-UL-2-Rainfly) which converts the tent to something more useful for bike camping or basecamp type setup. Let me know what you decide! 👍

    • @navewotation
      @navewotation 4 роки тому

      @@TheEmporiumOutdoors MSR makes a similar accessory as well, which is why that aspect didn't make it into my decision making: www.msrgear.com/tents/tent-accessories/msr-gear-shed-for-elixir-and-hubba-tent-series/10314.html
      I could see that being useful for bike camping or for making your living space in the tent more usable when having an additional person, but would be unlikely to be used on through hikes since it would add weight with little benefit. Of course, I always like modularity, so having the option doesn't hurt!
      On another topic of weight and modularity, this is exactly something I'd look for as well that I just stumbled upon: www.bigagnes.com/Tent-Floor-Protector
      While not for through hiking with a pup since the weight would offset the benefit, the fact that it's made to hook in and protect the floor is very enticing for things like car camping. I'll look for what you and Esme think of it ;)

      Depends or your size - I'm 5'9" @ 200lb - my partner is 5'6" and medium build and it was fine. If you are buying this tent you probably have ultralight gear already so your packs are not going to be massive. If you want the extra room, the weight penalty for the 3 person is minimal and would give you some "spreading out" space 👍

      A year late, but it's actually 7'4'' long, so you would be perfect length wise. I just purchased it and I'm 6'3'' and it seems just fine for me. Two people is tight though. I would get the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL3 for a tent comparable in weight with more side to side room at the cost of head room, or just upgrade to the Copper Spur HV UL3 for all the room you would want. That is, unless you didn't want to buy one haha.

      Having spent many a night on the side of Helvellyn and other UK mountains - You need to be looking at mountain tents. I'd say these tents are good for around 300-400 nights if you take care of them. Many people use them on the PCT and other long through hikes and don't have any issues and they are pretty hard on them as they have to keep moving - and not able to dry them out etc. For me it will last for 10-15 years or maybe more. The UV is what kills tents. I still have tents I bought 15 years ago and they are like new! 👍
