    Just found this film. Hats off to the people of Estonia for the extremely dignified and respectful way they handled this terrible situation.

    Many thanks for uploading this respectfully video about Joey Dunlop!At Monday 3 July 2000 my late father road it in the newspapers.I couldn’t believe my eyes when I road the newspaper!I watched him in the 80’s in Spa,Assen,Zolder(1984)where he was with Roger Marshall nearly at the big Honda Britain truck),and I became an autograph from both riders,and in Hockenheim 1987 I became an autograph from Joey on my helmet who is still at my home!I’m 65 now,but when I think about those things I get sentimental!R.I.P.Joey,Robert,William and all the other motorcycle racers and street legal riders who died too young!Great respect for the people in Estonia too!Tears in my eyes.

    The greatest sportsman to come out of Armoy, County Antrim, Northern Ireland proud to have been born in the same village. Grew up listening to the sound of bikes prepping for the NW200 and Dundrod on the bushside road the smell of petrol fumes the vibration in your stomach sitting in the hedgerow as they bombed past. We loved the man not the legend, many only know the legend a few of us were more fortunate to know the man. Gone but never forgotten God Bless Joey, Mervyn and Frank.

      Did you ever hear the joke about Joey? Stacks his bike and ends up in the hospital. A nurse comes in; "comfy Joey?"
      "Armoy".

    Even though Joey became incredibly successful he still represented that grass roots, oil under the fingernails, sleeping in the van level of racing. I never progressed beyond this level but I believe that the more corporate and rigid the less the enjoyment.
    Also, let's not forget Joey's quiet charity work and his trips to Romanian orphanages.
    What a talented man from a talented family. I just wish Micheal all the best and to stay safe.

    Remember standing next to him looking at a stand at the bike show in the early '90's. Such an unassuming guy but I could not believe that no one else recognised him. He won his first TT about the time I first got into bikes as a 10 year old. Cannot imagine how tough it must have been riding a TZ750 around the IOM, a bike difficult to ride even on a short circuit. Watched him at Donington in the early '80's on his Honda Britain 4-stroke. Such a versatile rider and legend of the TT and proper "road racer".

    Absolutely heart-wrenching to watch this video. A true legend was sadly taken from us on 02-07-2000.
    To see him leaving the starting line at 16:24 in his familiar yellow helmet was beyond sad. If we could only turn back time......
    Joey was a legendary road racer, yet despite his incredible success, he was a humble, kind and really nice human being.
    RIP JOEY DUNLOP 😢

    Never ever seen this footage before but absolutely fascinating but heart breaking to see Joeys last moments before his exit point.The only thing I can say is that his work was done here and it was time to go back but its not easy for all who love him and admire him for all the fantastic times he gave us all.The TT has never been the same without his presence but Im sure he's there every year in spirit with Robert .

    A champion on and off the track...ya gotta respect a man that works on his bike as its lined up to start a race..he looked so rugged and scuffy duct tape on his helmet(didn't give a sht what it looked like as long as it worked..but could ride like the wind..a huge love for his sport, you can see it in his face..RIP Joey

    Dam if only it hadn't of rained that day..and Joey was jus coming to the end of his racing career.. this was one of his final races and to get through his whole career just to have his life taken at the end was fuckin heartbreaking(excuse my language) but it was so sad..I got talking with Robert Dunlop in the Kings Hall in Belfast a few years later, he was a real nice guy..I was just after buying a Honda CB 600 Hornet that month and I was asking him did he know much about them..But it was sad Robert passed aswell and then his son William..Racing royalty the Dunlop family..Stay safe Michael and God Bless you all. I said a prayer at Wiliams crash site in Skerries awhile back..So unfortunate what happened William with the sump nut tearing out after his bike bottomed out afew times..He had no chance😥R.I.P to you all...

    Never be sad at this sort of thing joey wanted to do this and he did....Other folk die in bed with cancer or some other sort of horrible illnes.. Joey lived a life and enjoyed his life
    he did not lay in a hospital bed for months and months waiting to die as my mother and farther did !!!! so lets be happy as joey went out quikly doing what he loved to do
    how good is that yes sad but good !!!! he was a lovely man well i did not know him but what i can see/gather he was one of the best if the world followed his lead there would not
    be war's there would not be loss of life through stupid beleifs Joey was and still is the true face of life and freedom oh how i wish i had spoken to him i did see him in the i.o.m. in
    the swiming pool with his children but did not want to spoil his time with his kids so just looked and smiled which he did in return.. god bless ya Joey you will be in heaven if there is one
    that's for sure..if my kids grow up to be half what he was i will be a happy happy farther/parent thats all i have to say in my simple way god bless ya Joey !!!!!

      Maybe it was a destiny ,a shadow of mistery about his accident,maybe it's better that his last images are from him still alive. We could imagine the bike flying to the trees but him flying to the sky,with wings on his feet like the TT trophy. It's less cruel than see him unconscious on the accident site. Try to immagine he passes from racing on the streets directly to racing in the sky.

    What mistake did Joey make in that race? They said he made a mistake which caused his crash. Did he choose wrong tyres or what as it was so wet

    • @stevenconnolly28
      @stevenconnolly28 4 роки тому +3

      Wrong tyre choice. The rider behind him met with Robert in Estonia on the 1 year anniversary of the crash and explained to Robert how Joey had been sliding quite alot in the first lap then it got worse in the 2nd lap. As he tipped the bike into the last corner the back wheel stepped out resulting in Joey running far too wide where he got too deep into the trees. Unfortunately we all know what happened after that. Terrible accident

    • @rd6144
      @rd6144 3 роки тому +4

      From what I’ve heard I think it started to rain heavy during the race and parts of the track were waterlogged which caused him to lose control. Absolutely nothing to suggest suicide, The bike he was on was a 125cc surely if it was suicide it wouldn’t be attempted on a bike that small. I think it’s wrong to tarnish the mans name with such disgusting theories.

    • @laurielovett8849

      Thst rumour sbojt suicide WS stuff and nonsence. See it was raining but I heard front wheel hit a pool of tar whatever it was it was unfortunate a freak accident

    • @veikov7766
      @veikov7766 9 місяців тому

      That's bs...
      It was pouring rain that race and the corner he went off was almost a full throttle corner up a small hill and on to the main straight where it flattens out, giving the corner sort of a crest like effect.
      I would assume that and water literally flowing down the tarmac was what lead to this tragedy.

      I was only 5 years old, but I remeber the moment when his body was lying on the ground, then medics arrived, tried to bring Joey back, but failed and then placed a sheet over him. Now it seems like it was 2 minutes but I was standing there probably 20 minutes if not more. It was raining heavy and the track was a simple road, my dad said that bike back seemed to be slipping and shaking. He crashed right between 2 trees. It was weird because three was not close to the racing line, it was a smooth curve. Not kind of place were u normaly would crash. but again it was very wet. There was a rumor that a small girl run on track and Joey tryed to wave her off, but that option was denied. But he dad said that there was no breaking. His speed was around 150km/h.

      There was footage of some sort which was handed to the Dunlop family by the Estonian government but nobody knows what was on the tape. A commentator said he seen something out of the corner of his eye which looked like a red bike going into the forest area around the last corner. The event was live on TV but not sure what was recorded and what was not
