It was a formulaic movie with chases and fights because the audience expected them to be there, but it was also, for those who looked a little closer, a touching story of a career at its end and the fitting end of the saga.

I hate what Disney’s doing with these so-called “strong” female characters, and I’m a feminist. They have a really scuffed idea of what “strong” means. Disney seems to think that traits often thought as “feminine”, like compassion, sensitivity, bring motherly, etc. are actually bad and/or weak! Instead, they just slap a bunch of “masculine” traits on their female characters and act like THAT’S the only way a woman can be strong - by acting more like men! Gee, really progressive, Disney. What’s worse, they give the characters some of the worst “masculine” traits as well. I mean, sure, they make them courageous, but they also make them really headstrong, overconfident, unfeeling… they’re just obnoxious, arrogant know-it-alls, they’re just not likable at all. And they have almost no adversity or weakness to overcome, they’re just perfect from the start. They can overcome any challenge right off the bat, with little to no training, and they almost never fail at anything. If the bad guys ever one-up her, it’s never a major loss, just a minor setback - they never lose spirit, or reach a low point. That’s because Disney won’t let their “strong and independent female characters” ever show a moment of weakness, they’ll never need a friend to pick them up… that would mean she’s not “strong”! That’s such bullshit! Strength of a character comes from the challenges they face and eventually overcome, despite struggling and failing along the way. It comes from the mistakes they make and how they learn from them! “Oh, but our strong female characters can’t possibly make mistakes, they’re perfect, unlike those lame and pathetic males!” Another problem is how Disney loves to absolutely butcher established characters and shit on their legacy, just so they can set them up to be replaced by their new and “better”, strong female character. And just to rub salt in the wound, the new character is shown to be stronger and more skilled in every way, and they flaunt how much better they are right in the former iconic heroes’ faces! “But it’s okay, because they deserve it! No matter how kind-hearted and heroic they acted in the past, they’re MEN, so they have to be taken down! They’re not fighting for equality, but for supremacy.
Gosh Helena’s awful. But Damn I forgot they made Indie’s old love interest smack him? With force too! This is unrelated but damn that trope is hopefully dying out 😅.
Despite what you may think of Shia LaBeouf, what they did to the character of Mutt makes absolutely no sense. By the time he would enlisted in Vietnam he would have been 31. His character was an anti-estalishment biker raised by a liberal mother and the only father figure was a crazy academic. Why would he have enlisted in an unpopular war at that point in his life that his character would never have supported in the first place?

Really great review. After seeing it, I noted about half of these criticisms to friends and family. They totally stripped Indiana Jones of all his machismo, intellect, and know-how. Presented him as a feeble old drunk who grumbles behind Phoebe Waller, chasing after an artifact that nobody really cares anything about.
Helena is just a greedy drunk that the movie then tries to show development into caring for Indy...I mean what a perfect person to pass the torch to...She is totaly unworthy of taking on the mantle of Indiana Jones.
Really dont understand they couldnt say shes the granddaughtet of Marcus brody or something. They just had to insert a new character that weve never heard of before n his daughter.
In a sane world, they’d just recast Indiana Jones with a younger charismatic actor (like Ryan Gosling), and make a kickass adventure story - and drown in billions of dollars of profit.
I-a long-time Indy fan-have decided not to watch the movie. My son said, "It's not that bad, Dad. Go watch it." Your video is the one I've chosen to show him if he tells me again. You've captured EXACTLY how I feel about what I've seen/heard/read about the movie and put it in a way better fashion than I could ever describe. Thanks, Vex!

Not to be disrespectul but I cant understand HOW your son thinks "its not so bad"🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️. I am a woman AND I HATED IT TO THE BITS. The only way your son thinks this its "ok" is IF HE NEVER WATCHED ANY INDIANA JONES MOVIE, OR HE NEVER LIKED THE CHARACTER VERY MUCH. There is no way ANYONE who loved Indy can think this movie is "ok". FOR CHRIST SAKE... I kid you not (sadly) but it was the destruction of Luke Skywalker ALL OVER AGAIN...they DESTROY Indys character and personality, they DESTROY HIS FAMILY AND KILL HIS SON, only to have him miserable and broken enough to be "saved" OR BETTER PUT: REPLACED by the insufferable FWB. And "saved" is a saying, because she dont give a flying F about indy. Really whoever write this movie MUST BE A WOKE PERSON. Because they give 💩 about the character we love, but all of they care is to INSERT THEIR WOKE NEW CHARACTERS while killing our old ones. Is a disaster. I WATCHED IT LAST NIGHT just because my father saw it in "the web", so I had to help him saw it and we saw it together(my father likes indys movies so I have planned not to take him to watch this mess). 10 minutes later my father was sad to see such an old and miserable indy... it made sad to see him dissapointed because he taught it was just like the other movies. He lost interest after 30 minutes and went to sleep, but I keep watching to see if it was so terrible. Its a disaster, depressing movie that should have never being made. PERIOD. The end of indy was Cristal Skull. Not a perfect endind, but and ok ending. This 5th movie is a load of crap NOT ABOUT INDY AT ALL . ITS ABOUT FWB AND HER TAKING THE MANTLE OF INDY BY DESTROYING HIM. To hell with this movie.

My mind is blown to consider that what we got was after numerous rewrites, reshoots and the removal of what was perceived as Waller-Bridge's worst put downs of Indi - so this final product is improved... from what, we can barely imagine. What a waste of time and money.

The continental drift thing was dumb. If the calculations were wrong, they wouldn't be going to the wrong time - they wouldn't have found the time fissure at all. Finding the time fissure proved that the antikythera worked. And really, in 2000 years, continental drift would have accounted for about 2,5 meters. And besides, seeing Archie in his tomb with a wrist watch would have proven to them that he _had_ had some contact with the future, and therefore could absolutely have known about continental drift.
I keep watching reviews and plot break downs for this movie, and I cant wrap my head around how such a simple plot reaches two and a half hours In run time
Can you tell Helena is a self insert? Oh Hollywood, your so shallow and self indulged. Maybe when the movie industry finally goes bankrupt we can start over with better people involved.
The only winner here is Harrison Ford, he's "retiring" but like wrestlers of old, once he gets a juicy contract he comes back because he knows fans are crazy and wants to always see him even though it doesn't make sense
The only good thing the spear head which was claimed to be the spear head which stabbed Christ is a real historical piece from around the 10thc AD. It definitely was not the weapon used in antiquity, but it exists.
Great review, but what a shame this movie is. I was looking forward to it, but i don't think i will watch it now since everything about it seems mediocre at best and a punch in the face for Indy fans at worst. Life sucks. ☹😔💔
The thing I don't like about it that nobody is talking about is that we have a severe enough problem with antirationalism, mass unwarranted credulity, superstition, and conspiracies without movies supporting it. There were already people saying the antikythera device has special properties, now we have another Indy film about magic nonsense. I know movies are an escape from reality but they're attaching magical idea to a real artifact. I challenge you film makers to be trying to make rationalism look good, or fun.

Mads Mikkelsen never seems to catch a break artistically. His performance as Kaecilius in Dr Strange was amazing, with a strange and menacing physical presence. Critics (the kind who pumped up bombs like The Last Jedi and She-Hulk) panned him as a poor villain.
think it was intentional that if Indy wasn't in this - the outcome would have been exactly the same... Mads gets the dial - flies to the past - is shot down with arrows - dies there... ?

How could the Disney executives approve such an unlikeable character as the main heroine which would lead to box office disaster? Oh wait, KK approved this! Makes sense.
Simple experiment - compare/contrast Woodpecker Nose here to/with Ripley and/or Vasques from Aliens. See?? The (obvious) answer is in the question.....
Does Harrison Ford have any old characters left which he would like to kick in the groin? Maybe he could go back to the Amish and have someone drive a horse and cart over John Book's zimmer frame walking corpse.
You know you're in trouble when freakin' "Octopussy" has a better Tuk-Tuk chase than you do, made decades earlier on a fraction of the budget and almost no SFX. “Oh, but our strong female characters can’t possibly make mistakes, they’re perfect, unlike those lame and pathetic males!”
Another problem is how Disney loves to absolutely butcher established characters and shit on their legacy, just so they can set them up to be replaced by their new and “better”, strong female character.
Well...how do you REALLY feel about Phoebe Waller Bridge? LOL
Her existence is a bridge too far.
Gosh Helena’s awful. But Damn I forgot they made Indie’s old love interest smack him? With force too! This is unrelated but damn that trope is hopefully dying out 😅.
Don't look for any kind of adult understanding of romantic behavior from either Lucas or Spielberg. Cliches all the way.
Love your analysis. Brutal, fair and straight to the point. Well done.
FFS woman! As a veteran of 28 years in the Australian Army, I’ve heard some ‘unique owns,’ but my god, your barbs and wit are sharper than the focus of the JWST. Leaving me laughing so hard I had an out of body experience, by the end of the review I honestly couldn’t tell you if I were f_cked, Shot or snake-bit! To quote Blazing Saddle, “you use your tongue better than a twenty dollar whore….”
Horsey woman.
Cate Blanchet and Mads wasted their talents and risked their reputation.
Helena is just a greedy drunk that the movie then tries to show development into caring for Indy...I mean what a perfect person to pass the torch to...She is totaly unworthy of taking on the mantle of Indiana Jones.
There is nothing redeeming about her whatsoever. As if this movie weren't insulting enough, they had to give Indy a soulless god-daughter.
Really dont understand they couldnt say shes the granddaughtet of Marcus brody or something. They just had to insert a new character that weve never heard of before n his daughter.
Where does the scene with the woman getting her eye gouged out comes from?
Phoebe Waller Bridge hss all the facial charms of Carel Struycken
Unattractive.
1981 ; 'Raiders' - bought to you by men. "TOP! MEN"!
2023 ; 'Indiana Jones and the Dildo of Dumb' - bought to you by wimmen power. Eh, "YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY??????".
If I was you and my son thought that this movie wasn`t that bad .Maybe you should seat down with that kid and pour him a Bud Light and tell him about the birds and bees
@@daveroche6522 top men? tf is that andrew tate bs lmao

Brilliant new film review, Vex. of Indiana Jones 5. I love the previous four Indiana Jones films. but have no interest in watching this one. :)
My mind is blown to consider that what we got was after numerous rewrites, reshoots and the removal of what was perceived as Waller-Bridge's worst put downs of Indi - so this final product is improved... from what, we can barely imagine. What a waste of time and money.
This movie...instead of giving us the Harrison Ford of the 80s, we get Harrison Ford *in his* 80s...!
Best comment of the day.
Hang it up!
Simple answer to a simple question - PUT QUENTIN TARANTINO IN CHARGE! 'Nuff said.....
Great review!! You are my new favorite. Please please keep it coming!
The only thing that requires more ‘suspension of disbelief’ than Phoebe being attractive is that Shia Lebuffe would actually join the military.
[sigh] If only the fridge hadn’t been nuke proof… we wouldn’t be here today
Unattractive. Horsey. Ugh
Just found your channel today. Imma sub, keep up the great work
Helena looks like Lia Thomas. Lia Thomas, the she-man who harasses women in a swimming pool, and Helena who harasses an old man in his own movie.
Woodpecker.
Wasting Mads Mikkelsen in these turds should be a criminal offence.
PWB Thumbnail looks like Robbie Rotten had a sister from Lazy Town.
Great job Vex!
Thank you, buddy!! Appreciate you 🙌
I believe you and I saw the exact same film. Worst Indy of all time.
I keep watching reviews and plot break downs for this movie, and I cant wrap my head around how such a simple plot reaches two and a half hours In run time
God I hate this movie. So much. I'm having heaps more fun watching reviews of the film than the actual movie itself. As if there was ever any doubt.
Oh you're good at this. Subscribed!
I liked how you deconstructed why certain characters sucked and your angle is refreshing. I hope your channel grows. Now off the the Witcher!!!
That British bag couldn't hurt a flea!
Creepy
The children we could make with your roasting skills!!!
Great writing and humor Vex. May the algorithm smile on you.
The only good thing the spear head which was claimed to be the spear head which stabbed Christ is a real historical piece from around the 10thc AD.
It definitely was not the weapon used in antiquity, but it exists.
Helena is no Marion Ravenwood.
Helena is scary.
Thank you so much for swimming through this crap so we don't have too. Great review!
Aww thank you, Jacob!
I was really hoping that I would be wrong on this one, but alas 🥺
Anyone else REALLY, REALLY looking forward to Ryan Georges Pitch Meeting for it?
"Her" Tomb Raider series???!!! Is that a thing??!!
Great review, Vex!
Thank you Josh! You still gotta go see it 🤣
Great review, but what a shame this movie is. I was looking forward to it, but i don't think i will watch it now since everything about it seems mediocre at best and a punch in the face for Indy fans at worst. Life sucks. ☹😔💔
kennedy loves to kill iconic male heroes
Best video on this SS Sultana of a movie I've seen, well done.
RIP Indiana Jones
He had a good run. Went too far!
Who would have guessed there would be fawning over the Nazi? Not that using the word “Chad” wasn’t a dead giveaway.
Cry harder.
I've noticed how she always covers up that black spot on her head..... It's blatantly a mark from her previous life where she was probably shot for hating men 😂
Fade to Black!
On my fouth video now after subbing. Impressive editing, clear narration and my kind of humor. However, i would recommend adding some Kronk clips to your repetoahhh
Feeble Wooly-Minge strikes again!
I read that many people invested in home theatre systems during COVID-19. So the trend is watching movies in your living room.
You deserve so many more subs than you have! You instantly got mine in the first 3 minutes. Hilarious and INSANELY accurate video.
Yes me too
Remember the green witch from the Wizard of Oz? Febble Wally is a real look alike. The manic stare, the ugly mug, the strident voice... The mangy monkey minions..,
She IS a witch!
Thanks! Just subbed to your channel. Wow! didn’t think there was anyone as searing as me when it comes to exploitative, agenda ridden corporations and their intelligence insulting products! Plus I love the Rick James drop I kept replaying that part!
Oh and Taco Bell short-round hahahaaa! Hot vid! 😘
Thank you so much for the kind words and support, DJ!!!
Wishing you and wonderful rest of the week, buddy!! 🎉🙌
@@VexElectronica your welcome my lovely I look forward to your next video. Keep up the excellent work 🙏🏽
As a female, I can only urge Waller-Bridge to identify as something other than female. Please? For all our sakes?
She doesn't rate as a female from me.
Wow. No sugar coating on this review. I loved it!
This was cool. Loving the energy. Had to sub 🙏🏽
“Quesadilla bootleg Short-Round” ☠️
Phee Bee Walter on a Bridge is the sole reason I won't be seeing DoD ever.
How could the Disney executives approve such an unlikeable character as the main heroine which would lead to box office disaster? Oh wait, KK approved this! Makes sense.
Thank you for being real🙇♂️🙏
Great video!!!! You just earned a new sub!!!
I couldn't be happier that the public has rejected this garbage of a movie.
❤ the review
Superb review Vex...Keep up the good work.
Aww, thank you so much, Eddie!! 🙌
You had me at “skull f…” 😂
This review was savage & deserved. Loved it! Great review Vex!
Thank you Blair!! Appreciate you, buddy 🙌
Simple experiment - compare/contrast Woodpecker Nose here to/with Ripley and/or Vasques from Aliens. See?? The (obvious) answer is in the question.....
Appalling but to witness its absolute inanity you have to pay thereby feeding the sick mess and possibly encouraging a sequel: resist!!!
I'll never see a Waller bridge movie. Waste of money
"Trophy or skullf**k" hahahaha ... "Eh, potato, potatoe."
Same difference when it comes to PWB, right? 🤣
Indiana Jones 5: the dial of saving Hitler
Far more enticing title 🤣
Does Harrison Ford have any old characters left which he would like to kick in the groin? Maybe he could go back to the Amish and have someone drive a horse and cart over John Book's zimmer frame walking corpse.
You know you're in trouble when freakin' "Octopussy" has a better Tuk-Tuk chase than you do, made decades earlier on a fraction of the budget and almost no SFX.
This movie didn't make me angry, it made me depressed in a way no other flick has, seeing what they did to my favorite character. I wish I could scrub it from my brain.
EPIC REVIEW
Barely legal harlots, what a great term.
