All of the cards are fantastic individually, but when you start stacking the cards together, it doesn't really make sense. I don't want 3 cards that all earn 3x UR points on dining
I don’t have an issue with the 3x on dining on all cards. In fact, this is a great benefit on the no annual fee cards. However, the problem is really the multipliers on the annual fee sapphire cards. Need higher multipliers for travel or add gas or groceries. Give us value for paying the fee instead of instacart credits.
If 1.5x is okay when everyone else gives 2x, then you should be okay with 1x on Flex compared to 1.5x on Freedom, right? It's a sub and maybe 1 year on whatever 5x you can find
It’s probably better to wait until Chase has the special offer of $200 plus 5% gas and groceries for a year. That was the welcome offer when I got the card last October.
Ya i totally agree. i think the CFU is fine stand alone card, but as part of a trio its the weakest link. 1.5x is just too low for a catch all card. i actually pc'd my CIU to a CIC for the 5x on cable & inet. I'll put my other miscalleanous spend on my BBP or Paypal MC.
That totally makes sense to get the Ink Cash for the 5x categories. 1.5x on the Ink Unlimited doesn’t do a whole lot for me other than the huge welcome offer
Great vid Jacob. I was just thinking the other day that my unlimited is pretty much a sock drawer card for me now. I have it and the Preferred. The reason I got this one instead of the Flex is because I had just missed the 5% on gas and groceries bonus both cards had but the unlimited still had the extra 1.5% on all categories up to $20k. I just hit that in early March. So next January I’ll get the Flex and that will pretty much be the only chase card I use. I’ll still keep the preferred to get access to the transfer partners of course.
Hello Jacob, started watching your channel yesterday and I definitely love your style and content. This video brings to attention: I have Freedom unlimited and sapphire preferred (got it half a month ago). I have my eyes on either IHG premier, freedom flex to complete the trifecta, and Marriott boundless. Do you think it's a good idea to get flex? my incentive is that unlimited and sapphire are not that good in terms of point reward (compare to 5% with flex).
I think the Freedom Flex is a great card but in your situation it isn’t necessarily a must-have. If you’re Chase 5/24 status is 3 or 4, I’d want to start looking at those other cards you mentioned because they have higher value welcome offers, but if you want more Chase Ultimate Rewards points, the Freedom Flex isn’t a bad option
@@hansonchen6491same here I’m at 3/5 right now and have the CSP . Not too sure if I want the Freedom Flex or Freedom Unlimited to make up for 4/5. I see redundancy in having a trifecta tbh.
Wouldn’t a better 2 card Chase setup be with just the unlimited? This way you don’t have to remember to activate/change quarterly categories. In other words the unlimited would make a 2 car setup more get it and forget it
That’s a great point and you could look at it that way. It probably depends on what you want out of your credit card setup. I’d prefer earning 5x points sometimes over 1.5x all the time, but either one doesn’t have to be bad
@@JacobsPointsAndProfitI hear ya. That is just over 3X the value and to help not forget to activate the rewards you can use MaxRewards to automatically activate all rewards to include hidden/unknown rewards
I recently got the CFU only because I can get 5X on gas & groceries for a year. Not sure what I’m going to do with this clunker in year two because I will switch to my 2X card as my catch-all.
Getting those gas and groceries multipliers is a sweet deal. It would probably make sense to only use your 2x card unless you really wanted to earn Chase points
That's a good idea. Eventually I'll want to product change one of my cards to the old Freedom 5% card so I'll have more 5x points earning opportunities
1.5 on CFU isn't significantly better than the 1.1 on the CSP. Now, if you can get double points for a year SUB on the CFU, that's a game changer - 3x everything, 6x Dining and Drugstores for a year. Beats the heck out 20k points for spenders.
The double points for a year was a great offer for sure. If I remember correctly, that was around for a few months. Now we have the 1.5% additional on every category, which isn't bad, but definitely not as good as the double points
once I am done with hitting SUB, I will definitely try Calby's trifecta (Bilt, Curved & MC card)... seems like a very solid Hyatt + Alaska airline earner
Could have easily just started the video off with I have a Chase Ink card that gives me the 1.5% cash back. Instead of making it seem like there’s this big negative reason why the Unlimited is not worth getting…
Eventually I only want to be using personal cards for personal expenses and business cards for business expenses, so I enjoy having a card like the Venture X for 2x on every purchase. The Freedom Unlimited is a good card, but it's not worth getting for me
They're mostly worried about 5/24. Too many inquires seems to not scare them as much as other issuers. There's a rule that says you can't apply for more than 2 cards in a 30 day period, but most people don't have to worry about that. There's also rules about not being eligible for welcome bonuses if you've received the bonus from the same or similar cards recently
@@JacobsPointsAndProfithi, thanks for the response!! I loveeeee the surpass. The fact that it only has an AF of $150 is amazing great deal because not only is there usually a very high SUB (I got 170K SUB), you also get 6x points on gas, groceries and dining which are definitely my main 3 monthly expenses (not including mortgage.) I also love gold status for the room upgrades I’ve received, and dining credit. My family of three received about $70 dining credit a day while in Toronto Canada at a Doubletree. You also get $50 quarterly statement credits if you stay at a Hilton property once a quarter ($200 total annually.). If you don’t stay once in a quarter, you can buy a $50 Hilton gift card and it gets coded as a stay, and you’ll receive the $50 statement credit!! 5th night free booking with points is a great deal too All these points combined is well worth $150 annually. Especially for my family that is trying to show our son every single state!
@@L_____E_______IT I absolutely love Hilton Gold status. It's easy to get from a credit card and the free breakfast/dining credits are amazing. Buying the gift cards with the quarterly credit makes the annual fee worth it and I hope they continue to let us do that. Thanks for sharing and it sounds like you're getting great use out of the card!
That's true about getting 2.25% on every purchase on the Freedom Unlimited when you redeem in the portal with the Sapphire Reserve. That's pretty decent for a no annual fee card
The redundancy always caught me up when people talk about the Chase Trio.

Sapphire cards should be 1.5X catch all on base earnings. I no longer have the FUnlimited.
That would be pretty cool! I'd use my Sapphire Preferred more if it earned at least 1.5x on all purchases
Agreed, or at least give us 1.25x on the CSP & 1.5x on the CSR. Make the unlimited 1.75-2x.
I agree, I already have the Venture X and BBP. Only reason I would get it is for SUB.
Yeah it doesn't make much sense to apply for unless for some reason you needed Chase points and you're not eligible for the other Chase welcome offers
It’s probably better to wait until Chase has the special offer of $200 plus 5% gas and groceries for a year. That was the welcome offer when I got the card last October.
Yeah that would be a good bonus compared to the standard welcome offer. Maybe later on if that offer comes back I could consider it
I actually was approved and received that offer in-branch last week.
I dont believe in trifectas all together. Appreciate the video Jacob
Some trifectas might make sense but it’s better to only get the cards that work for you. Thanks Sledge!

I really wish chase would switch up some of the spending categories. Too much of the same between the 3 cards
Yeah especially with the two Freedom cards being so similar. There’s not a huge reason to get both of them
Great vid Jacob. I was just thinking the other day that my unlimited is pretty much a sock drawer card for me now. I have it and the Preferred. It sad to have to sock drawer a card that was used a lot, but it makes sense. By next January the Flex might have another 5% on gas and grocery bonus
But with the Ink Unlimited you have the trifecta. It seems like you're splitting hairs here.
I could be splitting hairs but the Ink Unlimited is supposed to be used for business purposes so I’d like to keep them separate if I can help it
