Thanks for these 70’s football games. Takes me back to my favorite time in life. I’d give anything to go back. I grew up just outside of Dallas and was a huge Cowboys fan. Those away blue uniforms were the best of all time! In the early 70’s I’d get the blue uniform every Christmas. I know I got a Drew Pearson one year and Rodger Staubach another year. Can’t remember the other ones. Landry & Shula were 2 of the best coaches ever. They defined Class!
i can't stand the current blue jersey look of the cowboys with the silver pants. if they'd just keep the same pants and wear the blue jersey that would be fine. i think dallas started doing this in '82 they lost to the REDSKINS in the nfc '82 championship with that uniform configuration

@Fairmont Hotel Hotel the Cowboys started wearing the midnight/navy blue jerseys with light silver pants in 1981, actually. And I agree with you on preferring the old royal blue jerseys with the same metallic blue pants that they wear with their white jerseys.
I love reminising about watching these games when i was very young.i was a big Dallas Cowboy fan back in 78, and i thought NO ONE was better than Roger Staubaugh!! Great memories.
Even the Disco themed live music for the Miami cheerleaders "The Starettes" and outros for the commercial breaks during the broadcast are no longer offensive, comparably speaking.

The Cowboys played the Raiders in 1974. That game is also on UA-cam. They played them again in 1980. That's also on UA-cam. That was only the second time the two teams met. I don't think they met in 1978. This was real football. I grew up during this time.
Stan Blanton I agree the current road jersey looks like late 1970s high school jerseys. The old cowboys road jerseys were really cool. Unfortunately some people were superstitious and had them removed 😞....
The Cowboys' "bad luck blue" roadies were good on the eyes. Really clean with the dark grey pants, white shoes and long white socks. Screw superstition and bring them (and the serif font numerals) back!

Just perfectly said , as a kid growing up during the 7Os the NFL was wonderful to watch especially being a Steeler since 72. Yes listening to the off camera banter is a first for me. Ahh how I miss the 70s.
They both routinely drank their way through games, by the end of many the were both in the tank. In 1981 a CBS exec had to intervene and ban Summerall from drinking the day of games it got so bad.
back then you watch every football game they broadcast on TV even if you was not a fan of that football team it was just the good old days of football and everything was exciting
Has nothing to do with anything. The Patriots won their first Super Bowl in the old stadium in Foxborough. Then they won 5 more at Gillette. Steelers won Super Bowls at Three Rivers and Heintz Field.....
I remember watching this game on tv. People today don't realize that, much like the Cowboys, the Dolphins were pretty much a playoff team all through the 70's and not just their 3 year super bowl run. Too bad the Marino era teams didn't have this good of a defense.
The WFL ruined the Dolphins for the rest of the '70's. The Steelers and Raiders dominated,but Miami could of won at least one more Super Bowl if that early '70's team stayed together.

@@robertwesley4416 You're right. The whole "feel" of the game is almost entirely different. Offensive linemen being allowed to hold "inside the shoulder pads," passing on almost every play, linemen often standing up before a play, a lot more movement allowed for offensive players than was previously allowed, and penalties for tackling a QB a little too hard make me feel like I'm watching pretend football.
It's a shame that alcohol got the best of Tom Brookshire, he was great in the booth on Sundays. It killed his career. And Pat Summerall wasn't far behind! Thank goodness he was able to come out on the other side unscathed.

THANK YOU for putting these games on You Tube. I was a little kid in the 70's and I remember watching these icons play. The 70's and 80's had some AWESOME players. SADLY my PACKERS aren't in there but they show up later. But the 70's had Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, Mercury Morris, Chuck Foreman, Fran Tarkenton, Sammy White, Ken Stabler, Cliff Branch, Roger Starbauch, John Riggins, Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Hollywood Henderson, Ted Hendricks, and the STEEL CURTAIN defense. Now I can see some of these player from back then and see them play again. Plus to get to see the Punt, Pass, & Kick competition was cool as well. Memories of sitting with Dad, or Grandpa watching them. Again Sir THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!!! It is appreciated immensely. Happy New Year and God Bless.

Annie Van Auken I’m guessing somebody that had one of those old satellite dishes recorded this. Back then satellite tv did not show commercials during sports games. A friend of mine had one and it was like that.
Annie Van Auken his family owned a dairy. Those dishes ran like 4 grand back then. The equivalent of like 12K now. Yeah you had to be well off. Most families could not even afford cable tv then.
My dad was profoundly colorblind (everything looked brown to him) so he never bought a color TV until B&W consoles were no longer available. That was around 1976.

If he had a opinion that he felt was relevant he was saying it. If you didn't agree or like it well in his eyes too bad. Was it right? Not really BUT it's NOT my place to judge him either. I will say while I am not a big fan, he did do it the way he wanted to. So I do somewhat respect him. I mean even Cassius Clay or Mohammad Ali respected Howard Cosell. Cosell's style has been described as brassy, blustery, arrogant, obnoxious, pompous, cruel, vain, and verbose, but he NEVER changed for anyone. So while I didn't agree with him I do respect that he had the balls and convictions to be heard.

And if someone was old enough and was a football fan, how could you not forget that Monday night, Dolphins-Patriots, in December 1980 when Cosell delivered the shocking news to the country that John Lennon had been shot and killed. I remember seeing this game when I was in 8th grade, and I specifically remember Tom Landry show a VERY RARE emotional display after the turnover late in the 4th quarter at the 2:38:15 mark of this video. This may have been football's version of Joe DiMaggio kicking the dirt in frustration after being robbed of an extra-base hit by Al Gionfriddo in the 1947 World Series.
For Miami to go 11-5 only to be stunned (or should I say stung) by the Oilers in the wild card playoffs was a bit of a shocker. But then the '78 Oilers were really good that year.
Mark B Fensler Houston was good but they also got hot at the right time. Upset Miami and NE on the road and won both games pretty convincingly. But then they ran into a buzzsaw called the 78 Steelers. Oilers beat Miami twice that year...also on Monday night when Campbell went off.

@@jameswesterman9283 the GREATEST dynasty of all time...the Steel Curtain Steelers of the 1970's. They dominated so many other powerhouses and dynasty teams that were in the same Era. Madden's Raiders, Tom Landry's Cowboys, The Oilers of Earl Campbell and Bum Phillips, Bud Grant's Minnesota Vikings and others. Before they even won a Superbowl they played the Dolphins really hard...and almost beat them. Those were the early 70' s Miami Dolphins Dynasty Teams. The Steelers had not even drafted Lambert Swann Stallworth or Webster yet. Don Shula called Bill Belicheck "Belicheat" because the Patriots cheated and got caught cheating.
God I use to love watching tony d run wild. To me tony d ,swann, Drew Pearson Franco Harris joe Montana , staubach riare in my opinion an art form in the way they make the immaculate catches.and passes. To me there not just. Players there artist!
This game was truly the last hurrah for members of the Dolphins' 1972 perfect season team. They beat the team that humiliated them 24-3 in Super Bowl VI. Amazing the amount of Super Bowl experience on both teams in this game!

Roger was my favorite player in my youth ! He could throw a line drive pass like 50 yards he had a Cannon of a arm great player ! A class act and leader of his team ! Does being humble exist in the league today I don't think so !
@@markjohnson9455 Wow, that's an interesting question and a long answer. To me the most serious deterioration started to turn the day Jimmy Johnson left Dallas in 1994. Previous to that, they'd been in seven AFC Championship games between 1971 and 1992 and were probably the best team in the AFC in 93 before injuries ruined the season. In 94 they were still pretty good, but whispers of JJ replacing Shula undermined what they were doing. They were playoff teams in 94 and 95, but the pressure to turn to JJ was too great to overcome. JJ drafted well on defense, but not on offense. His record was decent, but he was not a stable influence on the franchise. He feuded with Marino and quit on the team twice, yet was allowed to choose his own successor. Wannstedt was a decent game preparation coach, but drove the personnel into the ground. We tried another talented celebrity coach in Saban, but he proved to be unstable as well...quitting on the team and leaving them in ruins. We tried another unstable celebrity in Parcells, but he quit on the team too. I guess I said all that to say that pushing Shula out has changed the Dolphins from a team that averaged 10 wins a year and went to the playoffs 2 out of every 3 years into a team that averages 7 wins a year.

Only time the Cowboys won in the Orange Bowl was the playoff bowl against the Vikings. The NFL to this day view the “Playoff Bowl” as an exhibition. In other words, it does not count.

@gregory garner Up until my boycott of the NFL several years ago, I was part of the Forty Niner Faithful, so of course the six SBs that I cheered on the scarlet & Niner nugget gold were pretty exciting, especially SB16 and SB19 being almost spiritual or exorcistic, but SB11 and SB13 felt like rides down a steep hill on someone else's bicycle, and their brakes didn't work. (I'm attempting to sound Facenda-esque) Yes, I was rooting for the Steelers, and yes, I WAS worried about Staubach late in both of those games. Speaking of HOFers, it's a a crying shame that D.Hill and Charlie Waters aren't in yet.

L.I. Schooner Let’s see for starters less commercials. Plus less roughing the passer penalty’s. Do away with a penalty for a hit on a defenseless receiver. Last I checked they are padded up and wearing a helmet. I know safety is part of the program now. I get it. But it’s a violent sport.

I watch these classics on Utube then today's games start watch 15 min and I am back to my youth but then again I was 17 in 78 best yrs of pro game was 1960s and 1970s then they changed to many rules stifled corners no bump after 5 yds tuck rule in the grasp rule no helmet hits no clotheslines no forearms might as well be a scrimmage football
I am inclined to agree with you. Many love today's game and that is fine. It is all a matter of preference. The game changed in the 80's. I enjoyed it more when you really had to work to score a TD. It was worth celebrating. Now it isn't such a big deal unless it is late in the game.

The good old days when football and baseball announcers could drink openly on air, like late night talk shows with the smoking and drinking. These two were well known and proud alcoholics who eventually paid the price.

Dorsett only got 10 carries in this game but still got 49 yards. This is one of those games that they lost for not giving to him enough. It always frustrated me when I watched them back in the 70s
My last time at the OB was Marino vs Danny White, Miami beat Dallas on MNF in OT..about 60 million viewers Nielsen ratings. Today lucky to get 11 million and stadium is 1/2 empty
8:53 Norm Bulaich (#31) still using the old dolphin-IN-the-sun decals on his helmet, 5 years after Miami switched to the dolphin-OUT-of-the-sun decals. This drove Dolphins QB, Bob Griese, crazy.

Could you imagine a Broncos RB today using the old "D" decals with the bucking/snorting horse? Might annoy a team leader that someone feels the need to march to the beat of their own drum. At any rate, if you read the notes under the Miami Dolphins helmet history on "The Helmet Project" site, you'll note this rather authoritative comment from site visitor "Bob G."... _"The team went back and forth between the "in the sun" and "out of the sun" logos between 1966 and 1969; sometimes I believe, within a season. Starting in 1970 they seemed to have settled with the "in the sun" logo, until from the final regular season game of 1973 (vs. Detroit) thru the playoffs, about half of the team (mostly lineman) started wearing the "out of the sun" version. Pictures which show both logos on the field at the same time come from this period. Please also note that this "out of the sun" logo is much smaller than the one worn in the '60s. In 1974, the Dolphins went back exclusively to the "out of the sun" logo. (One exception was running back Norm Bulaich, who played with the team around '75-'76, wore the "in the sun" logo, which drove me crazy)."_ Does that make any more sense now?
@@danyluk1 Because Bob is always unhappy about something. I've seen him at several card shows, he is never smiling bordering on being rude and demeaning to people. Like that helmet made him throw to Bulaich any different. Can never prove it but if you switch teams between Archie Manning and Griese then their careers are completely switched on how they are looked at.
I love the in unison movements by the offensive line before the snap back then. They don't do that anymore today. Wonder why they sfopped doing that? And also how fast tbey come out of the huddle and run to the line. They walk out of the huddle today. Anyone know why?
I remember the Cowboys doing this too and I never understood what the point of it was. Cowboys were the only team for a long time to use the shotgun formation, though I learned that many teams used it back in the pre-SB era. It wasn't until maybe the late 80's other teams decided to start using it. I think Joe Montana was the last QB not to use it.
Until recent years that was the NFL's modus operandi, play the last game in a warm weather city. I think it changed when the Super Bowl was held in the new Giants compex. But I don't expect that to become the norm.

Pat Summerall and TomBrookshire were the best sports broadcasters in the both by far !!!!! The those young whippersnappers know what they are talking about !!!!! And I love those road blue jerseys the Cowboys wore from 1964 through 1980. Dallas should have NEVER changed them in 1981.
I loved these Dallas teams but sometimes they were totally lost when they couldn't get Tony D going. The long 3rd quarter drive with the terrible reverse and draw play that ended in a field goal was brutal, 11 plays to make it 20-9.
Griese had an arm like a shotgun . He threw quick and the pass was there . Enough to scare any pass defense. He would have done well even in today's league if he had the protection.

It's a shame that alcohol got the best of Tom Brookshire, he was great in the booth on Sundays. It killed his career. And Pat Summerall wasn't far behind! Thank goodness he was able to come out on the other side unscathed.

THANK YOU for putting these games on You Tube. I was a little kid in the 70's and I remember watching these icons play. The 70's and 80's had some AWESOME players. SADLY my PACKERS aren't in there but they show up later.
But the 70's had Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, Mercury Morris, Chuck Foreman, Fran Tarkenton, Sammy White, Ken Stabler, Cliff Branch, Roger Starbauch, John Riggins, Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Hollywood Henderson, Ted Hendricks, and the STEEL CURTAIN defense. Now I can see some of these player from back then and see them play again. Plus to get to see the Punt, Pass, & Kick competition was cool as well. Memories of sitting with Dad, or Grandpa watching them. Again Sir THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!!!

Annie Van Auken I’m guessing somebody that had one of those old satellite dishes recorded this. Back then satellite tv did not show commercials during sports games. A friend of mine had one and it was like that.
Annie Van Auken his family owned a dairy. Those dishes ran like 4 grand back then. The equivalent of like 12K now. Yeah you had to be well off. Most families could not even afford cable tv then.
My dad was profoundly colorblind (everything looked brown to him) so he never bought a color TV until B&W consoles were no longer available. That was around 1976.

If he had a opinion that he felt was relevant he was saying it. If you didn't agree or like it well in his eyes too bad. Was it right? Not really BUT it's NOT my place to judge him either. I will say while I am not a big fan, he did do it the way he wanted to. So I do somewhat respect him. I mean even Cassius Clay or Mohammad Ali respected Howard Cosell.
Cosell's style has been described as brassy, blustery, arrogant, obnoxious, pompous, cruel, vain, and verbose, but he NEVER changed for anyone. So while I didn't agree with him I do respect that he had the balls and convictions to be heard.

Only after Shula got there, from 1966-69 there was no home field advantage at all
I remember seeing this game when I was in 8th grade, and I specifically remember Tom Landry show a VERY RARE emotional display after the turnover late in the 4th quarter at the 2:38:15 mark of this video. This may have been football's version of Joe DiMaggio kicking the dirt in frustration after being robbed of an extra-base hit by Al Gionfriddo in the 1947 World Series.

For Miami to go 11-5 only to be stunned (or should I say stung) by the Oilers in the wild card playoffs was a bit of a shocker. But then the '78 Oilers were really good that year.
Mark B Fensler Houston was good but they also got hot at the right time. Upset Miami and NE on the road and won both games pretty convincingly. But then they ran into a buzzsaw called the 78 Steelers. Oilers beat Miami twice that year...also on Monday night when Campbell went off.

Before they even won a Superbowl they played the Dolphins really hard...and almost beat them. Those were the early 70' s Miami Dolphins Dynasty Teams. The Steelers had not even drafted Lambert Swann Stallworth or Webster yet. Don Shula called Bill Belicheck "Belicheat" because the Patriots cheated and got caught cheating.

This game was truly the last hurrah for members of the Dolphins' 1972 perfect season team. They beat the team that humiliated them 24-3 in Super Bowl VI. Amazing the amount of Super Bowl experience on both teams in this game!

This was the 1st of 2 losses that the Dallas Cowboys would have in the Orange Bowl in 1978! The next one was to the Pittsburgh Steelers in SB 13!
Those blue jerseys bring to mind another loss in the Orange Bowl in the Cowboy blues some eight years earlier.

@@markjohnson9455 Wow, that's an interesting question and a long answer. To me the most serious deterioration started to turn the day Jimmy Johnson left Dallas in 1994. Previous to that, they'd been in seven AFC Championship games between 1971 and 1992 and were probably the best team in the AFC in 93 before injuries ruined the season. In 94 they were still pretty good, but whispers of JJ replacing Shula undermined what they were doing. They were playoff teams in 94 and 95, but the pressure to turn to JJ was too great to overcome. JJ drafted well on defense, but not on offense. His record was decent, but he was not a stable influence on the franchise. He feuded with Marino and quit on the team twice, yet was allowed to choose his own successor. Wannstedt was a decent game preparation coach, but drove the personnel into the ground. We tried another talented celebrity coach in Saban, but he proved to be unstable as well...quitting on the team and leaving them in ruins. We tried another unstable celebrity in Parcells, but he quit on the team too. I guess I said all that to say that pushing Shula out has changed the Dolphins from a team that averaged 10 wins a year and went to the playoffs 2 out of every 3 years into a team that averages 7 wins a year.

Up until my boycott of the NFL several years ago, I was part of the Forty Niner Faithful, so of course the six SBs that I cheered on the scarlet & Niner nugget gold were pretty exciting, especially SB16 and SB19 being almost spiritual or exorcistic, but SB11 and SB13 felt like rides down a steep hill on someone else's bicycle, and their brakes didn't work. (I'm attempting to sound Facenda-esque)
Yes, I was rooting for the Steelers, and yes, I WAS worried about Staubach late in both of those games.

I am inclined to agree with you. Many love today's game and that is fine. It is all a matter of preference. The game changed in the 80's. I enjoyed it more when you really had to work to score a TD. It was worth celebrating. Now it isn't such a big deal unless it is late in the game.

Like that helmet made him throw to Bulaich any different. Can never prove it but if you switch teams between Archie Manning and Griese then their careers are completely switched on how they are looked at.

Crazy that outside of superbowl 6, dallas was 1-6 vs miami until 1996. Since then, they are 6-1 with only one close game (thanksgiving 2011).

I love the in unison movements by the offensive line before the snap back then. They don't do that anymore today. Wonder why they sfopped doing that? And also how fast tbey come out of the huddle and run to the line. They walk out of the huddle today. Anyone know why?
I remember the Cowboys doing this too and I never understood what the point of it was. Cowboys were the only team for a long time to use the shotgun formation, though I learned that many teams used it back in the pre-SB era. It wasn't until maybe the late 80's other teams decided to start using it. I think Joe Montana was the last QB not to use it.

Until recent years that was the NFL's modus operandi, play the last game in a warm weather city. I think it changed when the Super Bowl was held in the new Giants compex. But I don't expect that to become the norm.

I loved these Dallas teams but sometimes they were totally lost when they couldn't get Tony D going. The long 3rd quarter drive with the terrible reverse and draw play that ended in a field goal was brutal, 11 plays to make it 20-9.
Griese had an arm like a shotgun . He threw quick and the pass was there .
Enough to scare any pass defense. He would have done well even in today's league if he had the protection.
