Hi there, I'm in the process of plastering my bathroom, it is a small one and not a wet room, so can I still "tank" my room and can I still do this process if it is freshly plastered? thank you.
you want cement board for a shower cubicle, then you can use this on top otherwise if any moisture gets through it will undermine the plasterboard and fall apart from experience.
How do you seal the plywood, what type of acrylic you were using? applied to edge and back face of the plywood. Can it be used with Primer G(Apply paint first then Mapei Primer G)?
NSAI Circulated a memo in Ireland in 2014 saying plywood is not a suitable substrate for Tiling on. Recommend product is magnesium board or cement board.
Why not fibreglass & resin the whole area? That would be 100% waterproof for decades. In fact, best to install a slight lip, and a drain in one corner to allow any water out when, eventually, the tiles leak.
Can this be used straight on to plaster board or is it better to use a tanking membrane? Im wanting to avoid putting up backing boards if possible. Hope someone csn help
Good info, I'm going to fit a bathroom for the 1st time. What type of flooring did you put down under the shower cubicle. Also on the tanking kit, does it say its ok to tank on non-plasterboard walls?
We used thick plywood for walls then screwed cement board on top, each was tanked etc. You can tank the plastboard then tile over it, just make sure it's properly done otherwise it can be costly in the long run. For the flooring we also used really thick ply, tanked, applied some adhesive for a special waterproof membrane then tiles. but we used good quality materials including adhesive etc throughout, we had a bad experience with a previous bathroom so wanted to do everything right and did not want issues as it's upstairs. I hope that helps.
Daniel Thanks for the tips. I dont want to have to get it done twice so I'll make sure its done properly. Cant really find a detailed step by step guide on how to do certain diy projects in the bathroom but I'll just have to go to numerous sources of information.
Hi there someone done my bathroom last year and it started to leck so got someone in who said the water is behind the tiles so I don't think they waterproof the walls so all the plaster boards are rotted so need my shower walls replaced
@@DanielJohnHowTo I do hope so he seem like he know what he his doing he looked at it said say it was behind the tiles and it hadn't been waterproof properly
Not “basically yes”. The answer is yes. That’s the whole point of this product. To seal the wall to prevent water that might find its way behind the tiles, through the gap to the shower tray or between two walls at a corner or even if the grout is not perfect. This saves the wall from going moulds etc. Use a powdered C2 tile adhesive. 👍
This is such a bad video! You should never use Plywood as a substrate for tiles. This has even been out ruled by the British tiling association as there is too much movement in the wood and the tiles do not adhere to it meaning they will crack and come loose!
@@DanielJohnHowTo it was outlawed by British standards at the start of 2018 due to the decrease in plywood quality imported from overseas. Iv just seen however your video was posted dec 2017 so will remove the comment but you should update the video to reflex the change in standards
It is, but it doesn't matter too much because once it's all tiled which it was and looked very nice you would never know - it's not what it looks like now, it's the end result that matters, there has some wisdom free of charge, thanks for your comment.
Daniel you had loads of creases that didn't brush out. Should be using the brush to push it right into the corner then brush to outer edges. It will work but if you were doing it like that for me I would be whinging but then I'm ocd.
I use a stiff wallpaper brush to get the tape right into the corner, being careful not to make and rips or holes in the tape as i dab it with the brush
Gyula Nagy It has been applied correctly and you never see it anyway so it does not matter, things don’t always need to be perfectly done and we are living in the real world. Can you put this straight onto plaster board??? Thanks

Is the primer basically PVA water down?
it has lots of different compounds etc, pva can be used to seal against moisture then primer and paint depending what you're doing
How do you seal the plywood, what type of acrylic you were using? applied to edge and back face of the plywood. Can it be used with Primer G(Apply paint first then Mapei Primer G)?
We use an acrylic primer paint first with three coats and then Mapei on top - hope that helps.
Thank you.How about the back and the edges? Do they need to be seal with acrylic primer paint?
yes back and edges, let it all dry properly.
Thanks. That is very helpful.

i m from india good prodcat mapei

Yep you could also do that, thanks for the suggestion.
Fibreglass and resin isn't as flexible. Movement in the structure could cause edges to come away and compromise the seal.
Not to mention the noxious fumes filling the house.
Very helpful videos!!
Glad it was helpful!
Does this product work on Hardiebacker board ?? Many thanks
Yes it does
Can you just use the paste without the primer or is that no no.
primer for the board?
Can i use this without the primer?
The instructions say that you should cut off the scrim edge. Whys that?
Could this be used on standard plastered plasterboard or should it be changed for moisture resistant plasterboard?
you would use cement board with stainless steel screws

Not really, you want AQUAPANEL® Cement Boards made by Knauf
