I do not think people realize what a great songwriter Townshend is. Most of The Who's material was written by him and he has done very good solo work. Next to Hendrix, there was no better showman with a guitar. Would have loved to see them live. A true rock legend.

He admitted rather than becoming media fodder by going to Court he would be placed on the Sex Offenders Register. This may well have saved him his sanity but I suspect will also prevent him ever being knighted. A shame really for like the Beatles (Sir Paul, Sir Ringo), Stones (Sir Mick) and Kinks (Sir Ray) the Who helped forge youth culture in the UK in the 60s and have contributed tremendously to music and the taxman ever since.

A three piece horn section brought to life all the songs from Quadrophenia(an album that literally saved my life !) Sister Disco was fantastic with those horns ! My one regret is I never saw Moonie on the drums, but Kenny Jones did a great job that night in 1980. The Who will always be the absolute best rock band that ever lived !(....to me anyways !) He said he wouldn't go to court yet he registered as a sex offender. I'm an attorney and I'm shocked that the incompetent interviewer here didn't ask the obvious next question....what was the final diposition of the charges? Were the charges ultimately dismissed? Acquitted after some eventual proceeding? Once criminal charges are filed if you fail to show up for a court date without an excuse(you were in the hospital) the court issued a bench warrant and the warrant squad goes out apprehend you and involuntarily bring you back. Furthermore kn NYS a person is not required to register under SORA unless he or she has been CONVICTED of an underlying sex .offense....something doesn't make sense here. I just rewatched the interview he states that he registered as a sex offender . he is never asked what the ultimate disposition of the charges was. If he was ultimately cleared that's great but as an attorney I feel based upon this interview things are ambiguous. I promise you I will follow up with my own independent research and if appropriate I will delete my comment
I stand by what I wrote in my previous text.

Why!, I don't know, particularly if, as he claims, he is disgusted by it.

Great interview. However at 1:48 things appear to go off the rails as the finger heads for the nostril, the camera quickly cuts over the shoulder and the interviewer pauses briefly mid sentence in disbelief 😬

Its like beating up a dog that you love. Fucking nonsense. Love him as a musician but the destroy instruments thing? Fuck off. Smash up a Les Paul? Insane.

Pete Townshend è a pieno diritto uno dei più grandi compositori di sempre anche oltre la musica rock. La qualità della sua musica tra la fine degli anni 60 e l'inizio dei 70 ha raggiunto livelli elevatissimi. Who's next, Tommy e Quadrophenia sono opere immortali.
