Lol...I saw those 15 pairs of shoes taking up an entire room and yet the tub is crammed full of stuff cause she has "no storage" ...um, we have these things now, available almost everywhere called dressers and storage closets. Yup agreed, she can used 1 whole room to keep all her shoes and yet to mentioned there’s no storage, using the common bathroom as one, omg”’ I think likely she doesn’t like guests to be in her house that’s why common toilet becomes storage purposes😂😂

    Native Hongkonger here, don’t think this video gave the fair view of living environment in Hong Kong . You only cherry-picked the luxe ($8000-10000) of flat 1&2 then jump down all the way to lower end to flat 3 ($900)? Whilst there are lots middle class or upper middle class in between living in private housing / buildings. To give an idea average rent is between usd 4-6 per square foot and from our government report the average rent is usd$1686 per month. I pay $2100 a month for a 550sq ft flat, 40 mins by metro to the city centre and my friend has the same size flat in the very city centre paying $3200.

    I actually know HK and it would be useful if Caleb had also shown where the first 2 apartments were. For that rental cost, my guess is that both apartments 1 and 2 are outside the urban area. Otherwise, the rent would be much higher for the size of those 2 apartments
    Also, all 3 apartments are set up for single people, not families. I guess this is the demographic of Caleb's audience? But it means that the apartments that are shown are not typical for HK

    i think the last apartment is around the average of space each person has in hong kong as the average is like 150, 160sq. foot per person. But i think a lot of lower class people has way smaller space. That definitely looks like a 2 person flat to me. I like how he still makes the space cozy. Not sure if the bed was his or was the owners'. Would prefer a single person bed so that there could be a gap between the shower and the bed or else it sounds pretty bad to get the bed wet especially in such a humid weather like now (and also with laundry hanging indoor).
    The sink looks super small, especially for a caucasian man that tall >

    First of your videos I found after reading about your videos in the Washington Post today.
    I have rented many apartments. First In Bloomington, IN 1985 600 Sq feet/1 bedroom $200. 1988 in Artington VA 400 SQ FT studio $400 was sticker shock (less space, twice as much $ as Indiana). Then 600 Sq feet/1 bed in Falls Church, VA 1990-97 went from $450-$520. Then rented a 900 Sq ft (3 small bedsrooms) house back in Arlington 1997-2000 $800-$850/month. Then I bought a house. Lived there 15 years. Went back to renting in 2015 and sticker shock again. Ended up with 1000sq ft condo (2 bedrooms +bonus loft) for $1400/month. That was actually larger for less $ than other places I'd looked at. 2022 bought the condo from my landlady.

    Whoa HK is indeed that costly to live. My friend was offering me to stay at her small apartment (25sqm) when she was away during my visit. She said the rent was HKD 27,000 per month in 2022 (around USD 3,400ish). No elevator, but very close to Sheung Wan station. Based on my 5 nights experience, it wasn’t that bad to live in such a compact space if you designed it wisely.

    Since when does "wealthy" equate to "tasteless"?! A random Wassily chair and we're supposed to be impressed? This reeks obnoxious privilege, particularly in relation to the existing poverty around.

    No maids quarters? There's lots of live in maids in HK. I seen some tiny HK apartments with husband, wife and child plus a live in maid.

    Great stuff, fascinating to see how others live and what they accept as normal. Go to London, Great Britain.

    I'd love for you to film a few village houses in Hong Kong or somewhere in the New Territories or Outlying Islands. I heard you can get a whole village house for HKD7000

    • @robocop581
      @robocop581 День тому

      It's actually HK$7K per floor.
      Village houses have three floors. If you rent the ground floor you get access to a garden and if you rent the 3rd floor you'll get rooftop patio space.

    Those 2 people paying 10k and 8k usd to rent an apt is insane, i guess they have f you money, huh? $900 isn't bad for what it is; a place to eat and sleep. Must be nice, I would spend that much per month just for some living space,.but then again i'm just a broke bloke trying to make it out of poverty.

  • @JCB671
    @JCB671 4 місяці тому

    $900 is not bad at all. In Toronto, you can't even get a private room for that price now.
