    There is no way I could live there for any length of time! I'm not anywhere near as tall as Phil (5'1") but I do have claustrophobia and just watching this made me start feeling like I was starting to suffocate. 6 people??? I'd say 2 at the very most, but in my case, none! 😊
    Kudos to you both for being flexible...both mentally and physically!😊

    When I left home at 18 I lived in a nurses home. My study bedroom was 9' x 8'. I had a handbasin, chest of draws and built in wardrobe on one wall and a single bed, desk and chair on the other. We had a communal llounge, kitchen, bathrooms, toilets and laundry room. Most of the time I ate in the hospital canteen. So yes I've lived in smaller. I could quite happily live there, at least it has it's own kitchenette, shower and toilet. Since Japan has so many small convenience stores and restaurants it would be no hardship just to shop for daily supplies on the way home. I'd swop out the rice cooker for an airfryer oven as you can cook rice in a microwave and have a mini instant pot both of which I use now. I cook bread, muffins, cookies, cakes and can spit roast a chicken if I want to. I also have a single induction cooktop, so no cooker necessary. And a 10-20 piece capsule wardrobe would work very well. Also a daybed with storage boxes underneath and store what you don't use in the loft. Perfect for a single person who prefers to go out to see their friends. I currently live in a one bed bungalow of 50 sq ms.

    Today I realized I have Claustrophobia. I'm nearly 2 meters tall and my shoulders are over half meter wide. I think my sit upon is so large just getting into the toilet room would be a challenge, getting out a nightmare, and having the door closed.... oh, the horrors. I would have to duck every door lintel. I would have to be wary my sit upon doesn't knock the Ramen Pot off the burner. I am WAY too big for that teeny tiny doll house.

    A lot of people just use their lofts for storage. Most people have better couches than that. This American lived for four years in an apartment in Nagoya like that but with no loft and only a single bed a chair and a desk. Also my toilet was not in a separate room, it was part of the unit bath. You go to work, party a little, and come home, turn on the air con, take a shower and go to sleep and in the morning go to work…. By the way, it was only $235 a month.

    I have lived in an apartment not much larger than that in the Philippines. They are cheap, less than $200 a month, but not very big! Barely enough space, really, for two adults. The apartment we have in Baguio, now, is bigger, it's a decent-sized two bedroom and a good-sized bath room, one can fit in without bumping the walls or door! It's not huge, but we don't feel cramped, either.

    I could do it. My first apartment used to be dorms. Each individual dorm had been renovated into a tiny (approx 16 sq m) apartment. I lived there for 2 years. But I'm only 1.47 m (4'10") so such a small space probably feels different for me.

    The sad thing is is that I live in a tiny house, but for some reason that just seems so much more tinier I think because the design wasn’t done correctly like knees hitting to go to the toilet or they could’ve went all the way across with the countertop or all the clutter or my head hitting if I sat up in the middle of the night and the sad thing is, it’s expensive so that’s like what’s expected

    I’m totally not surprised it was advertised for six people. Two to a bed. I figured that out quickly. It’s doable but not ideal. Not a lot of privacy & a long wait. I think it’s good for a group of three or a couple. If I were there, I would just utilize the folding bed downstairs to save time & my body from a fall! Haha!
    On a whole though, I love tiny apartments in Asia. You see people living happy, full lives with less material items. Very inspiring. It makes me look for tiny homes & apartments, but my husband said flat out NO 😂

    I lived for 2 months in an apartment pretty much like that one, except mine didn't have a loft and only had a tiny fridge underneath the sink. It was totally comfortable. The only thing I hated was the fact that I love cooking but there was no prep space. I loved it's high ceiling and big sunny windows. But yours was definitely bigger than mine. Oh! The toilet and wash room was only one piece so the toilet was more spacious, there was a tiny closet by the door and no washing machine, but at least there was a coin washer and dryer 2 floors down and a vending machine with cold beverages, even beer, at the lobby. My room at home is twice as big as that apartment, literally, and yet I loved it there.

      @tatianamt680 Місяць тому

      @Mikichan85 I don't even know how to explain it. There was a chair and a desk by the foot of the bed, so I could sit to write, study, work, eat and watch movies on my tablet sitting down comfortably. There was a full bed with 2 big drawers beneath JJwhere I stored clothes. Tiny closet, about 2 feet wide. Maybe it was comfortable because I was alone or because I didn't have many things ceilings where very high, probably more than 15 feet high. If ever I got cabin fever I went outside to explore the town. Loved it

    • @Mikichan85
      @Mikichan85 Місяць тому

      @tatianamt680 what u describe is a prison room...
      U must have the space for walk comfort, place for the pc, the accessories for that, a sitting place different for pc and TV and so. A different place for eat and one for game.
      Space for get up from bed, for put cloths.... And no, a pair of basketsand one MICRO closet are NOT enough for a newborn... For an adult impossible.
      Just even because u cannot do the washing machine everyday and wait at least one day for have dry cloths.
      What kind of life is that???
      U MUST be confort at home, have hobbies there (and not "watch videos". That's NOT an hobby), collect something.
      SOMETHING.
      a BED ROOM (without sofa, kitchen, bathroom and so) MUST be 9mq (meter, not feet! Please use the normal measurements) in Italy.
      Similar in the rest of Europe.
      I STUDY that, I study for project houses and flats!
      I know what I'm talking about

    Its 1 minute from Ochiai station (Shinjuku). It rented about $500 -$600 (aud) per month (50,000 -60,000yen) in early 2024. Might not be this exact one, but I think i t is.
    But thats for long term tenants (ie 1 month or more) - dont have a clue re shorter term. It was built as an apartment (!!!!!) in 2017. Was never a house.

    Old building, small AF and how far from the station? This is definitely getting towards the bottom of the barrel other than stuff that's weird and not updated at all.
    There are 1Rs that get smaller and cheaper, they seem to be the specialty of older single salarymen and some of them are transient apartments, like only used M-F and then they go "home" for the weekend.
    And the thing is, if you go a few more stations outward, you can double or triple the apartment size for the same money.

    I'm going to guess 6 persons, max. Got be young at heart though, super tolerant of confined spaces.

    Why do I think the toilet has a 'drinking fountain' feature on top?

    Yeah... no. I couldn't deal w/ the lack of storage cupboards or closets. I can't stand stuff sitting out.

    I was thinking 1 adult and 1 child maybe seeing as there was only 1 chair and 1 sofathingy. Not more than that. But 6? I guess Japanese people usually aren't that big so they might fit in there. And yes i am dutch.
    If it was for the purpose of a roof over my head i would make it work, but i would drag those matresses down from the upstairs area, seeing as i am nightblind and would absolutely injure myself going to the bathroom.
