I recently turned 60 and have been subscribed to AP since I was 18. Hopefully you will be around for many years to come. Of the three cameras here the D300 wins hands down
For anyone starting out I would say this is a good idea. There are so many possible choices that enable the initial experience of using a camera before making a more informed choice and moving up to a system that suits your interests. Personally I had owned a number of bridge cameras and none of the results were inspiring. So I decided to get a proper camera and set out with £500 and a pile of old Tech to trade in at CEX. My choice was a Nikon D7200 with the 18-105mm DX kit lens. For the first 5 years my strict budget limit of £500 a year restrained any thought of GAS. After this 5 year apprenticeship I have amassed the knowledge and experience to make a more informed decision about where to go next.
Get a Nikon DSLR and you have literally hundreds of cheap lenses, from Nikon and third party manufacturers, to chose from. Not only that, these lenses can still be used on the Z cameras of today, even in autofocus mode (AF-S and AF-P lenses).
I still use my D300s regularly, even though I also have a Zf! It is a fantastic camera, build like a tank. The shutter count is over 120k, yet the camera feels like new and certainly far far better build than most of the current mirrorless cameras. The other camera that comes close to it in my cupboard is the Nikon D200, another fantastic camera.
I'd buy the camera deal that gives me a 150mm f1.7 any day... oh, it's only a nifty 50.. shame. Seriously, the D300 has it any day of the week. With the cost of the film the Minolta broke the budget. 😢
Love that Minolta. In America that model is the X-570 - my absolute favorite in the Minolta X series. Yes, I like it more than an X-700 as it doesn’t usually develop the capacitor issue. I’m very surprised at the $140 price though.. I picked up several of them many years ago for around $25 USD per camera.
I have been subscribed to AP for 40+ years , I think the £191.50 for a years issues { 51 } is a decent price, take a look at other photo mags and they are all more expensive. I think with online resources taking over magazine sales have declined greatly which makes the costs of production more per issue every magazine { those that have not folded } have increased their prices
@@jimstirling7223 yep .. I see & undedtand your logoc but I still think over a 100% increase if rather much ... when i got ontine it was over £200... I think it's a good magazine but not worth over £200 to me. I know about paper costs , & other cost issues but for AP with much diminishing pagination it a no starter for me now. Still, i wish them good luck

I would get a Sony Alpha A5100 because there are so many Lenses to choose !

My £140 camera last year was a Sony A390, with its 14MP CCD sensor. Works really well.

I sold my D300, though I still have my D700 which was essentially a full-frame version.

Film photography has really taken off in recent years, especially among the young, and prices have shot up accordingly.
For teh first time in a dcate , I havent reviwed my AP subscription... it has Jumped fro just over £100 per year to over 200 per year! shame
