What a Brilliant interview! Thank you GurDev Nidar Singh Nihang Ji for all your work !! 🙏 am one of his old students and going back into training again!

He says he's a kshatriya and a kshatriya is an enjoyer, and he's a gursikh, etc. In all cases, perfect human beings but not sants LOL. Same as Kamalroop. People who say Nidar Singh can't fight or Nidar Singh is a fraud or that he doesn't spar and have compliant partners have no idea what they are talking about since they don't know how the power is generated and locomotion done in Shasar Vidya. These two things are what makes an experienced practitioner of Shastar Vidya near invincible to other martial arts practitioners. The ones on whom he demonstrate techniques are not being compliant. They are simply unable to resist the amount of power applied with each movement. It also doesn't look like sparring because his training partners have a very difficult time tracking his movements due to how non telegraphic they are.
@@karpetcabin also I'm kinda new, so mind if you explain how has your experience been with him and his works? Are their better sikh sources available on the same topics such as Sikh shastarvidya and others such as Sikh history etc. and is he any way biased or agenda-driven as people claim as per your analysis?
Hey, so the first guru was a warrior, right? What about the second, third, fourth, and fifth gurus? The story seems a bit unclear about that.and vague.
As much as I WOULD LIKE TO appreciate Nidar Singh and his work, it seems he is clearly a misguided individual (or a bad faith actor). He contradicts himself every 5 minutes, and the only thing he's consistent on is his constant sucking up to Sanatanism, and downplaying the clear distinctions between Sikhi and Hinduism (Sanatan Dharam). You have some Sikhs who want nothing to do with Hinduism and reject even Dasam Granth, but Nidar has ran in completely the opposite direction. He's also never had a real fight where people can see the benefits of Shastar Vidya, and until it's proven it's fancy Bullshido just like Kung Fu and other such flowery performance arts. 'Revisionists were born from the divide and rule policies of the British Raj' - WRONG. There were no 'divide and rule' policies, the British merely made use of the existing divisions present in all parts of India. The Sikh Empire became unstable because of internal conflict, because Kashmiri Hindu Dogras and Hindu-turned-Sikh Brahmins like Lal Singh and Tej Singh were allowed to get into positions of power and create more factionalism (which led to the Anglo-Sikh Wars). The Sikhs (particular the Jatt Sikhs that made up the then disbanded Khalsa Army) helped the British destroy the Indian Mutiny because they needed employment and HATED the Purbia Sepoys (Indian soldiers) that they had fought 8 years previous. The Singh Sabha movement was a response to the dwindling number of Sikhs at the time (either becoming Hindu or Christian), and trying to get Gurdwara's (that were being misused by Udasi Mahants) back into Sikh hands. And yet Nidar is saying that Sikhi will die out if Sikhs don't follow HIS form of Pro-Hindu teaching! He says he's helping to preserve Sikhi, but then is so wishy washy when it comes to the idea of it being it's own religion. Make your mind up. 'The Granth is just a book' - No it's the very embodiment of your Guru, which Guru Gobind himself bowed before as his successor. If you deny this then you aren't a Sikh. Do not downplay the destruction of Granths just because you're buddy buddy with RSS types. 'Guru Gobind worshipped Chandi' - Why was he not challenged on this? It's utter nonsense. In 'Chandi Di Vaar' Guru Gobind states that all the Gods, Goddesses and Demons were created by Akal Purakh Waheguru, they are all just parts of Gods creation. Guru Gobind called himself the 'Idol Breaker', is Nidar not aware of these things? This man talks about context, and yet fails to consider context (saying 'Na Koi Hindu Na Koi Musalman' is 'misinterpreted') when something goes against his own pro-Hindu sentiments. The Guru's used Hindu mythology, culture and terminology in their teachings (and even Islamic terminology) because said mythology was the stepping stone for Sikhi (the true religion) to be formed. 'I can read the Koran doesn't mean I have to become a Muslim' -- Well if you like the story of Chandi and use Hindu Mythology to inspire your soldiers, that doesn't make you a Hindu does it? 'Last thing you guys who are scared of the Hindus etc' 'scared of the Vidya going outside' -- Well... That would be ENTIRELY his fault then wouldn't it? Since apparently he's the only one doing it, and chooses to beef with Sikhs and go teach in Saudi Arabia or whatever. That would make Nidar the villain. Also nobody is afraid of Hindus, it's Hindus that are afraid of Sikh, hence why they are attacked in India for simply asking for their rights. 'The Mongols were the original Turkic people' -- NONSENSE LOL The Mongols were just one of many Nomadic Steppe tribes, all of whom fought in that Horse Archer + Lance manner. The Scythians also fought in that same fashion, and they migrated to India thousands of years ago and were known as Saka, from whom the Jatts descend. During the Misl/Early Sikh Empire period Sikhs almost EXCLUSIVELY fought on horseback, and considering fighting on foot to be well beneath them. 'You can learn Gatka in a few days' -- Well you can learn boxing in a few hours and yet it's one of the most essential and sucessful Martial Arts out there. Gatka is Sikh Fencing, it teaches you how to use a sword and shield (along with other weapons), which is very important when everyone is fighting with a sword and shield... Trying to devalue it by saying it's 'Turkic' (with zero proof) and 'crude' despite it being used for hundreds of years to create excellent swordsmen is ridiculous. Why is Shastar Vidya not mentioned in historical sources? Did it not produce amazing swordsmen? 'When it comes to the Indian Subcontinent we are the same culture' -- That's a retarded statement. Do England and France (both Christian nations) have the same culture? Obviously not. How can Punjab and let's say Gujarat have the same culture when they have hardly anything in common aside (aside from Hindu Mythology) and can barely understand what each other are saying. The Indian Subcontinent has MANY different cultures, just like Europe. 'You couldn't just take Amrit in the old days' -- Also total bullshit, there are many examples of historical figures taking Amrit without having to invest years of their life... 'I don't want to be political' And yet everything you do is political. You have CHOSEN to associate yourself with Sanatanism and against Sikh groups. You have CHOSEN to say Sant Bhindranwale wasn't a Sant and that the Khalistani Dacoits 'may be seen as terrorists'. Do you think the Guru's would see men fighting for their native land as terrorists? Was Banda Singh Bahadur a 'terrorist'? This guy is talking about certain Nihang physiques, but he's got a big gut himself. He also says many people are filled with ego, but continues to remind us that he is so much better than everyone and can beat everyone up (with no evidence). The man is a walking contradiction. Utterly Shameless.
You have no idea what you are talking about since you don't know how the power is generated and locomotion done in Shastar Vidya. These two things are what makes an experienced practitioner of Shastar Vidya near invincible to other martial arts practitioners. The ones on whom he demonstrate techniques are not being compliant. Far as I know he speaks of Chandi as the hukam of the hukamran (Vaehguru) nothing to do with idol worship. Yes there is a unhealthy siege mentality in revisionist informed modern Sikhi of Hinduism. Many Sikhs preach Brahminism is out to absorb Siikhi nto it self and annihilate Sikhi's uniquness. The RSS is the great Sikh bogey man. Instead of accepting most Sikhs are not themselves firm in Sikhi. Most now do not get initiated Singh Khalsa. Sikh girls prefer monas to Singhs. By the way Ling are you a Khalsa? So on this point you are wrong. Modern Gatka is a exhibition martial art I learnt it as a child. It is not for fighting. And thus its twirling jumping can be learnt very quickly. Google up boxing it is a sport that takes 1-3 years to learn. It is not a all round combat martial science that can handle blade wielding attackers, multiple attackers, firearm armed assailants etc. I trained in boxing and kickboxing. He is but stating a fact. Look up Gatka in Mahan Kosh Bhai Kanh Singh states the same. In the misl period Amrit had to be earned or anyone could just join up the misls. They could be Mughal spies. This reasoning of the Gurdev makes sense. You are a Khalistani Bhindranwalla sympathiser the Gurdev is not. This here is the real bone of contention. Though you do not say it. Each to their own view. Know that I have stayed and trained with the Gurdev. His daily routine is waking up just before sunrise nitnem meditation. @@dararyatt4259 'Gurfateh as I assume you are a Khalsa but please do choose a better name than "King0Lingaling,," As "ling" is in Punjabi/Hindi .... ' Maybe you instantly being drawn to the word 'ling' is more of an issue for you than me. Actually no I'm not a Khalsa, I'm a mona who's lifted weights for over a decade and train at an MMA gym where they practice REAL FIGHTING, something Surjit Bains (and you by the sound of you) has never actually done. Surjit Bains is also NOT a Khalsa because he never preaches anything Sikh related, and he advocates drinking alcohol. ---- 'Any how your opening sentence is disingenuous as from the tone of your text its quite clear you despise Gurdev Nidar Singh.' Disingenuous? LOL I'm going off what I see. I could turn that around and say you're one of his cult members. I actually used to find Surjit Bains very interesting when he jumped onto the scene but the more you read into him and the more time that passes, you quickly realise he's a shameless charlatan cosplaying as a Nihang. In 10 years you'd think someone would have used Shastar Vidya in a proper fight. He might be able to trick the gorey (white folks) but he can't trick me or well... any other Sikhs who aren't totally clueless... ---- 'How does he contradict himself? The truth is a glitch has occured in your understanding of what Nidar Singh says and you just cannot accept that somethings he says are acceptable to you.' I gave NUMEROUS examples of where he contradicts himself and spits factual inaccuracies. He says he's the antidote to Sikhi (one of the fastest growing religions by the way) dying off, and yet Sikhi is just another aspect of Sanatan Dharam in his mind, how is this not contradictory? --- 'He is not sucking up to Sanatanism as he clearly states and believes Sikhi is Sanatan meaning timeless.' No as Sanatan he says he means 'Sikhs with a traditional mindset' (AKA someone who sucks up to Hinduism), and he says he is 'proud to call himself a Hindu'. He says his Gurdev (assuming the man existed) said 'Sikhs are Hindus within a particular cultural context'. This is LITERALLY THE SAME SHIT that RSS Goons say, that Sikhs 'were Hindus created to defend India from the Muslims' with the next step being 'go back to being Hindu because we don't need you anymore'. Unfortunately for Surjit Bains that's all false. It is true that Sikhs were born out of a Hindu culture (after all many of our Gurus were born Hindu), but that Hindu culture is NOW DEFUNCT. It is nothing but Mythology in the mind of a Sikh, no different to Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology or any other Mythology. Sikhi is the ULTIMATE Indian religion, both revolutionary and reformative. Everything else is dust. --- 'Experienced fighters and martial arts masters and exponents attend his global seminars and regularly study with him. Masters such as Maul Mornie, Pat O'Malley vouch for his skills and fighting ability. O yes he can fight.' Yes... 'Masters' who have never had a single real fight, don't remotely look like fighters, and propagate the same kind of woowoo Bullshido Nidar does. What fantastic company he keeps. --- 'You write against revisionism in Sikhi. Now Gurdev presents academic substantiation in his written works such as his Preface of his translation of "Pakhyaan Charritter." It is such evidence in written form that you should present otherwise what you say has no veracity.' What does Charitropakhyan have to do with anything? Actually Surjit Bains' historical research is basically the only useful thing I can see this man has ever done, thankfully Parmjit Singh isn't nonsensical like this man. --- 'The Gurdev speaks of the literal meaning of Granth which is book. He considers the gurmat and bani in it as Guru not its paper, ink and binding Guru. Brahm Gian that is Guru cannot be burnt or destroyed that is what he is saying. He is not in any way advocating burning of Guru Granth Sahibs. Please listen to what he says carefully as his words can be subtle. ' He is trying to trivialize the horrific act that is the burning of Granths (by Right Wing Hindu groups), by trying to minimize their importance. To a Sikh if you burn the Granth you may as well be burning the Guru, regardless of whether that Bani is available elsewhere or not. The Guru Granth Sahib is the 11th Immortal Guru, do you disagree with this? If you do we have a problem... --- 'He has no relationship with RSS as he has explained in above interview.' He has more of a relationship with them than any actual Nihang Dals. They all hate him. That speaks for itself. --- 'Gurdevs translation of Ugardanti is coming out soon it will fully explain the Santan Sikh understanding of Chandi. Far as I know he speaks of Chandi as the hukam of the hukamran (Vaehguru) nothing to do with idol worship.' Surjit Bains said 'Guru Gobind worshipped the Goddess'. Do you stand by that statement? Do you honestly believe that any of the Guru's or Sikhs of old would back that statement? Now if Surjit said... 'Guru Gobind thought Chandi was super cool, like a Marvel character that kicked a lot of Demon ass and made for nice imagery!' Now that would have been a very different statement. The Nihang bana was designed around trying to recreate the fearsome image of Mahakala, but that doesn't mean we worship said God. See how this works? --- 'Yes there is a unhealthy siege mentality in revisionist informed modern Sikhi of Hinduism. If you are why hide your name? Be proud of it.' All religions have a 'siege mentality'. Every 5 minutes there's some 'Proud Hindu' somewhere making a video about how the Muslims are starting to take over India again. Where there is smoke there is usually some fire, and it's very true that some Hindu groups are trying to absorb and pacify Sikhi, they may be failing terribly but they sure are trying! Surjit Bains is apparently trying to help them too! What do Sikh girls have to do with anything? Here's a revelation for you... Women like attractive men! (likely too big a hurdle for you I know) Regardless of whether they're a monah or a Singh. Who's hiding their name? This account is like 10 years old buddy. But hey... if Surjit Bains can have some made up names why can't I? ;P --- 'I googled up Babbar he does trace his family inage back to Genghis Khan the great Mongol king. He was of a Turkic and Mongol ethnic mix. So on this point you are wrong.' I don't care what Babur (get it right) said about his lineage, he could be descended from Santa Claus for all I care. Surjit Bains said that 'the Mongols were the original Turkic people'... which is absolute crap. Mongolians and their language aren't even Turkic. Turkic people include groups like Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Uyghurs etc. The Central Asian steppes had countless nomadic tribes for thousands of years before the Mongols, some looked European, some looked Middle Eastern and some East Asian, and they all fought in that same Horse Archer + Armoured Lancer (Cataphract) style. You just can't admit your great leader doesn't know what he's talking about. Sorry to break it to you.
'Modern Gatka is a exhibition martial art I learnt it as a child. It is not for fighting. And thus its twirling jumping can be learnt very quickly. It is not a all round combat martial science that can handle blade wielding attackers, multiple attackers, firearm armed assailants etc. I trained in boxing and kickboxing. I have gone and tested my meagre Vidiya skills against boxing and kickboxing very successfully.' There is a difference between a Gatka group doing stunts (which I quite enjoy) and the actual Martial Art of Gatka. Gatka is not 'twirling jumping', it's a form of Fencing and teaches you how to handle and fight with melee weapons. It is practiced competitively and has a long and glorious history, backed by historical sources (such as Europeans seeing it with their own eyes and acknowledging the brilliance of said swordsmen). Shastar Vidya has no such real world history. If you think boxing takes 1-3 years to learn you must be rather slow, it shouldn't take you that long to learn how to jab, cross, do hooks, uppercuts, block and do some basic footwork drills. The fact you don't know this leads me to believe you've never trained... Boxing is about as boiled down as it gets when it comes to a fighting system, but very effective. On the other hand it can take weeks to get a simple Gatka flourish right. Shastar Vidya is meant to handle firearms wielding attackers is it? I thought it was meant to be ancient? Existing before the time of gunpowder muskets even? If your Vidya skills have indeed been successful then where is your proof? Why is there zero proof that this stuff has ever worked? --- 'In stating the truth Gatka is of Turkic origin the Gurdev is not slandering it. He is but stating a fact. Look up Gatka in Mahan Kosh Bhai Kanh Singh states the same.' LOL A 'fact' huh? I looked up Gatka in Mahan Kosh and it says: - [gatka] n three cubit long wooden stick used for giving preliminary training in macefight. Its handle is covered with leather. Two players fight with such sticks in their right hands and small shields in their left hands - Does it mention ANYTHING about it being Turkic? Doesn't seem like it! LOL So much for your facts! I can't say with any certainty how old Gatka is (I doubt anyone can), it may well be thousands of years old, but one look at swordmanship around the world and you can see Gatka is a totally unique style, with a level of bravado that no other cultures possesses. It is unashamedly Sikh. --- 'In the misl period Amrit had to be earned or anyone could just join up the misls. They could be Mughal spies. This reasoning of the Gurdev makes sense.' Surjit Bains' reasoning skills are broken. There were many spies during the Sikh Misl period, and the Misls themselves were huge armies that had few qualms about fighting each other and had a great deal of fluidity in their membership. Do you think they had time to do the paperwork and figure out who's a real Amritdhari or not? Don't be ridiculous. --- 'You are a Khalistani Bhindranwalla sympathiser the Gurdev is not. This here is the real bone of contention. Though you do not say it. Each to their own view.' Yes I am indeed a PROUD Khalistani, Punjabi Sikh people need and deserve their own nation after decades of betrayal from the Indian state. Yes I am a Sant Bhindranwale sympathizer, he was a great man that led the Dharam Yudh Morchha, and he and his followers were unjustly attacked by the Indian Army (after killing more Indian soldiers than in any battle previous) despite having no reason or warrant for his arrest. I have no problem stating my politics, but you and Surjit Bains are the ones hiding their true intent. Guru Gobind told Banda Singh Bahadur to raise an army and raze Sirhind to the ground. In the 52 Hukams of Nanded he clearly states that Sikhs must be sovereign, and while we live in India we are clearly not sovereign. What do you think the Guru would think of Sant Bhindranwale fighting for our rights? And of the Khalistan Movement? Surjit Bains is more interested with getting along with RSS types than actually following the teachings of Guru Gobind however. --- 'Know that I have stayed and trained with the Gurdev. His daily routine is waking up just before sunrise nitnem meditation. Then least 2 to 3 hours Sanjamkiriya Viriyam exercise which include 1 hour run, 1 hour dand bethaks, dynamic Yoga like stretches, weights and Mungli wielding. Come meet with him brother and have your doubts effaced judge him not by hearsay or from out prejudice. Gurfateh.' He isn't a Khalsa mate, and he has a massive ego. When you walk around saying you can beat everyone up and fail to show it, that just makes you a poser.
Nidar Singh said some interesting things about history. But in terms of his martial arts, he is a total snake oil salesman. He demonstrates horrible techniques on unresisting partners. There's never a video of him actually sparring under pressure (his techniques would never work especially against someone with some actual grappling or striking experience). It makes me doubt everything else he has claimed in this video. He has also claimed to be the "last surviving master of shastar vidya and it's only teacher"... Something that makes no sense at all.
I gave NUMEROUS examples of where he contradicts himself and spits factual inaccuracies. He says he's the antidote to Sikhi (one of the fastest growing religions by the way) dying off, and yet Sikhi is just another aspect of Sanatan Dharam in his mind, how is this not contradictory?
---
'He is not sucking up to Sanatanism as he clearly states and believes Sikhi is Sanatan meaning timeless.'
No as Sanatan he says he means 'Sikhs with a traditional mindset' (AKA someone who sucks up to Hinduism), and he says he is 'proud to call himself a Hindu'.

All religions have a 'siege mentality'. Every 5 minutes there's some 'Proud Hindu' somewhere making a video about how the Muslims are starting to take over India again. I don't care what Babur (get it right) said about his lineage, he could be descended from Santa Claus for all I care.

There is a difference between a Gatka group doing stunts (which I quite enjoy) and the actual Martial Art of Gatka.
---
'In stating the truth Gatka is of Turkic origin the Gurdev is not slandering it. He is but stating a fact. Look up Gatka in Mahan Kosh Bhai Kanh Singh states the same.'
LOL A 'fact' huh? I looked up Gatka in Mahan Kosh and it says:
- [gatka] n three cubit long wooden stick used for giving preliminary training in macefight. Its handle is covered with leather. Two players fight with such sticks in their right hands and small shields in their left hands -
Does it mention ANYTHING about it being Turkic? Doesn't seem like it! LOL So much for your facts!
I can't say with any certainty how old Gatka is (I doubt anyone can), it may well be thousands of years old, but one look at swordmanship around the world and you can see Gatka is a totally unique style, with a level of bravado that no other cultures possesses. It is unashamedly Sikh.
---
'In the misl period Amrit had to be earned or anyone could just join up the misls. They could be Mughal spies. This reasoning of the Gurdev makes sense.'
Surjit Bains' reasoning skills are broken. There were many spies during the Sikh Misl period, and the Misls themselves were huge armies that had few qualms about fighting each other and had a great deal of fluidity in their membership. Do you think they had time to do the paperwork and figure out who's a real Amritdhari or not? Don't be ridiculous.

Yes I am indeed a PROUD Khalistani, Punjabi Sikh people need and deserve their own nation after decades of betrayal from the Indian state.
