This had been requested before. It's now going to be really interesting to see how the AI does in the continuation of yesterday's New Rome Total War A.I. Only Campaign Series: ua-cam.com/video/nla3cFRunkw/v-deo.html
Britannia is super overpowered. A faction with no cavalry or archers in their roster absolutely smashes Gaul and Germania. They have two advantages. They are on an island where they can safely replenish the troops and they are the chariots which are amazing in auto-resolve. The other is Egypt with their unlimited money and man power but that’s a bit more believable
Yea I kinda wish they only gave the Britons Londinium and deva to start with so that they don’t steam roll through Germany and gaul so quick and also so the human player can get some experience early on if they took eburacum and samobriva early on rather than starting with them
I had one time where Gaul was able to successfully take most of barbarian Europe because the Romans were distracted by Greece and Carthage. Their later units are really good, foresters, nobles, and chosen swordsmen
@cicero95 Yes I am aware, I implied this in the original comment ("It is fun") comment. I replied to another comment saying the same thing. I completed the entire long campaign of Macedon.
I’d say that romans and Egypt should be the highest tier with Brutii > Julii > Scipii > Egypt because they are the 4 that will take the rest of the world most of the time, but when it’s just those 4 left that’s the pecking order. I really disagree with implying that any other AI faction is better than the Romans but more than 9 times out of 10 they will win
Which I don’t understand this in this game or in Rome 2. Whenever I play Macedonia (thanks to mods in the first of course) they are insanely strong. They have a roster that is every bit as well rounded as the Seleucids, without being attacked from all sides. If anyone can challenge Rome, it would be Macedon in my mind.
@@bearistotle2820 I wouldn't say they are as well-rounded as the Seleucids, but they have a good roster. The Seleucids have the best roster in the game outside of the Roman factions imo. Can't really top having access to legionaries, pikemen, chariots, elephants, cataphracts, and companions. I'd rather face an Egypt or Pontus painted map than a Seleucid one.
@@TheChallengerXX Seleucids have the most variety, but as far as overall combat potential and the roles each unit fills, I have never been lacking in options when playing as Macedon. When I say "well-rounded", I refer to both factions abilities to adapt to any other factions strategies. Seleucids have more options, but Macedon fills every niche they need to with solid units anyway.
I don't see how Parthia could be a meme faction. From my experience they actually manage to take a few settelments from Selucids, particularly the one that holds hanging gardens. Not only they take a few regions, unlike numidians and SPQR, but they take a world wonder, which is not something every AI faction can do early game. Not only that, but the settelement they have near caspian sea is at the very edge of the map that's seperated by water and very difficult to get to, making them survive for quite a while. I'd say it's better then spanish, but worse then Carthage.
tht settlement is a liability to them, has pub order problems and almost always runs on a negative budget. The pro move is to sell it to scythii or adandon it entirely and move its army south IMO (real pro move obvs is to use it to conquer scythii but honestly all those russian settlments are garabage tier)
Julii win the early game due to fighting barbarians but then brutii win the long game by having taken wealthier and better developed lands. And then scipii loses at both comparatively but will still beat every non-Roman they face eventually
If the seleucid Empire keep 1 or 2 setlemants they start to make legions, catafracths, elite pikemans, companion cavalry and those beathufull Elephants and they become unstopeble. Sorry for My English i'm hispanic.
I've had so many games where the Greeks defeat the Brutii in the very early games pre-25 turns simply by killing their characters, I've seen brutii go from conquering all of macedonia to just get turned into rebels overnight because they just lose their characters so often.
However if be give Armenia the benefit of the doubt for his bad starting position, the Romans also had a natural "cheat" that plays on their favor: they are playing co-op and had their shoulders covered by 3 friends, not sure if its their skill/unit stats, or more their circumstances.
Not to stan for the Seleucids more than I already do but I think they have a really good case for best cav faction, their only weakness there is not having horse archers, otherwise they basically have all of the best units like cataphracts, companions, and elephants.
parthia is only a meme when AI controlled , but in the hands of player one the strongest due to their very long range archer cav, u only ever need pajama boys to push rams and garrison shit
@@ampattic their pajamas be pink !!! PINK, I tells ye )) It would have been mighty expensive back in those days. If you want a challenge, you could play as Parthia. Otherwise, Pontus or Seleucids offer better access to Greek trade and a better roster of units.

Interesting list. In my experience the Romans (Scipii the least) and the Egyptians are the only really successful ones. Britain and Germania can do well often. Macedon, Pontus and Thrace can occasionally do well. The rest do nothing of note
I start my campaign's by cheating and giving all the successor kingdoms and carthage 100k denari and sometimes giving them island or better located territories that still fit with their factions starting points...and you know what it makes the game fantastic(denari doesn't do much though) it changes the normal flow of a campaign and makes it unexpected..now normally only 1 roman faction gains power(Julii) and either macedon or greek cities become powerhouse and sometimes carthage becomes monster (Seleucids still die most times unless heavily given territory but sometimes they just become a monster) I've had end game times with basically only Scipii Macedon Seleucids and Germania controlling the whole map waging massive war and at that point my save file got corrupted but had a good fight against all of them before it was lost. So my advice try doing something like this and dont use cheats to get ahead yourself just make the game tough and competive because ultimately only the phalanx factions give a great fight.
In my campaign, Thrace conquered all of Greece and much of the upper Balkans. They crumpled when faced with the Brutii and my forces at the same time though
the thing about the Greeks is that IF they survive to midgame they'll roll Egypt. Egypt autoresolve is very strong vs. almost everyone but their chariots and omnipresent pharoah's archers are countered by armored hoplite spam. I've seen this a couple of times.
Pontus is a good one. Either they or the Egyptian take over to ME due to Pontus spice road or Egypt starting position. The flaw in the AI is with chariots. All you need do is add one unit of chariots to any army of decent size and it wins. You can have 10 units of peasants with two chariots and beat just about any non-chariot army on AI. Even an army of 10 hoplites which in on the field takes a lot of stupidity to lose.
SPQR isn't entirely passive. If you at war with them and you have an army in an area of their allies within reach of their army, they will probably attack. They also attack enemies im Latium itself, of course. They will never conquer anything, however. It's right not to rank them because their behavious is scripted.
Funny enough..in my hard campaign with Parthia when i allied with the Britons against the romans, hispania which survived until late game allied with the Julii and actually started beating the crap out of Britania, getting up to 15 settlements..so i guess they can have good campaigns.
11:20 all you have to do to permanently block their expansion as the Julii or Brutii is capture Carthage within the early game. 14:51 >Does Nothing >Still better than Numidia
Egypt definitely fez always expands. Gauls bad, too much fronts and they can't handle an actual fight. Armenia bad, sometimes lasts long although doesn't do anything especial and ultimately conquered by other powerful factions.
Egyptian and Brutii aggression should be Fez. There's almost no way you won't deplete your manpower fighting or even containing them. I wouldn't put the Greeks and Macedonian at the same rank. Even when suffering from loss of far away colonies ( Pergamum and Syracuse ), they can held their own very well back in the ancestral homeland. They can thwart of Macedonians easily. Macedon's only saving grace is that it gets impossible alliance with the Brutii ( never works with player ). They are both pestered by Thracians to the North and Greeks to the South. They can only bully Thracians.
Rebels should very well be S tier. My agrument for this is one word - SQUALOR!! Seriously. Squalor in this one is just a bitch. There is nothing you can really do about it once you have a huge city & the population gets too big other than either a) let the city revolt then exterminate it. or b) build a full stack of peasants and send them off to die somewhere.
