Even though Egypt had the upper hand at the start around the minute mark it called Brutii winning, once one Roman faction gets enough good settlements nothing can stop them, especially as they get into the late game their units are just too good
I saw the Gauls manage it once. It is so weird that it sent the AI crazy. Civil War began in Rome after about 30 Turns and Rome ended up uniting itself under the Brutii, I think. : )
So Greeks can beat Egypt late game... interesting - they've never lasted long enough in any of my playthroughs for me to see that happen! Pity we can't get a full on civil war between the Scipii and Brutii.
Yeah, it gets to the point late game, where the AI take about 10-20 turns to move their armies from one province to the other. They will start fighting in about 100 Turns and then will take another 100 until it is clear which one will win. I thought it would have been Brutii.
I think Egypt must've been distracted by the Scipii invading their Empire from their tiny number of territories. Not even an Egypt controlling the whole map apart from Italy could beat the marian Romans.
I always root for the Gauls. The poor Gauls are too good for this world. Always gangbanged by those wicked Brittons and treacherous Romans. The real amazing thing is that Greek turnaround. Goddamn, what a twist! I was heartbroken when it ended. I swear upon this alter; Never be a friend of Rome!
Witnessing the rise and fall of my favorite faction of Egypt reminds me of my very first play through of a total war on the hardest difficulty. Almost exactly like this.
I dont understand how greeks never manage to conqure all the map, with the Grece taken they can be richest in the game especially Athens which brings 5k in mid game after you build few good buildings.
They often do struggle at the start. Same with the. Sometimes the Julli will do bad and the Scipii good, sometimes its the other way round. But it's very very rare that both do well. It's weird, I know : ) Out of all 3 Roman factions, only the Brutii have never had a bad game.
The Julii's campaigns almost alway rely on controlling Patavium (especially for the AI) because almost all of the other cities near enough to conquer in Gaul and Germania are completely undeveloped with miniscule populations (400 people is the smallest a city can be and may barbarian cities start off with barely 800 people and don't have enough infrastructure to really push up population growth) and require extensive investments to make them productive enough to support mich more than their own garrison let (with the exception of maybe Alesia to a limited extent). Patavium also has this problem to begin with but it's base population growth is insanely high (9% iirc) so it can rapidly develop into a major city with a large tax base, while supplying lots of troops without draining the Julii's other major Italian cities of population, and add to that it opens up easy access to the cities of Segestica and Solona with good potential mining prospects and it has coastal access for a decent amount of trading. It really does help the development of the Julii early on and in this campaign the Brutii took it before the Julii could, handicapping them in the long run. Generally when I played the Julii I'd actually recruit peasants in Patavium and disband them in low population provinces to slow down the city's growth (so I could build the infrastructure it needed to not revolt) and to colonise the Gallic and German provinces that were almost always completely drained of people after the hordes of warbands and spear warbands had been recruited there.
So the Britons dominated early and the Julii stalled out immediately. And the Greeks made a full comeback against Egypt. So sad they could not reclaim Greece though.
James Hussey I think Gaul needs either a listing a alliance with Germania or the Britons to win, otherwise too many of its resources are sent to fight those two rather than let them fight among themselves
I think the greeks established a stable economy in their few cities which enabled them to make their heavier hoplite types (par spartans due to lacking the city), and that's how they killed off egypt who has overall lighter troops. greece only failed in the beginning due to having more early game units
In AI Only it is all auto-resolve. Chariots get double hitpoints, and double hitpoints is very OP in auto-resolve. British generals are all chariots, so if there is no human player and Britain survives, then Britain dominates the West side, usually, until the Brutii with their mega-greek economy can take them out.
