- In this video, Stephan reviews the Renaissance HEMA Doublet Master 350N from Spes. It is a 350 Newton rated fabric jacket for historic fencing and it is custom made with a navy blue body and Hungarian red arms. It has a 3D mesh inside and two protective foam plates in the front. It is easy to put on and has an extra strap to tighten it around the waist. He also reviews its "maybe" companion, the Diamond HEMA Plastron NG 800N, which is 800 Newton rated fabric and has a blade catcher and two pockets for protective material. It is easy to put on and has four straps to close it. It is puncture resistant and provides extra protection against thrusts. It is great for one-handed weapons like rapier or side sword, but not so much for saber or long sword. It is also great for looking fancy.
In historical fencing or HEMA (for Historical European Martial Arts) we reconstruct sword fighting systems from historical sources. Our club focuses on Italian medieval and renaissance sources, fencing with the Spadone (Two-Handed Sword), Spear, Sidesword (One-Handed Sword) together with Shield, Cape, Dagger, you name it!

Nice review, Stephan. I'm looking to buy the same (different colours 😄), including the Plastron. Btw, I have not hated the word "capacity" more than I do now... it hits to close for comfort. 😅 But seriously, I'll check the dimensions carefully, no point to have a jacket that inhibits your arm movement in sidesword (or any other HEMA weapons).

If SPES sees this... why no 800N version? Are there plans to update the material, or is this not a priority?

they released them shortly after the jacket. sadly they are not avalible in 800n (yet). but for most 350n is fine anyway.

since its a "first look" i dont have a lot of sparring footage with it. But as i said, mobility and protection are awesome for a light jacket.

I remember the naming competition 😁, since they showed the first Prototyp I knew I want to get one, but at the time they promised a 800n version which then eventually did not work. But in combination with the Plastron I actually like it more then I thought 😁 I had the jacket now a couple of weeks 😊 and my opinion didn't change yet!

I recently bought this jacket (in black, not jn the colourful version 🙂), I tested it already and so far I'm pretty happy with it.
Just the cut of the jacket makes it directly 1536% more fancy ;-)

I worried they are a bit to noisy, so i just went for the arms ^.^
I think at most I'd give you a +2 frost resistance for the cat hair. It'd be a +1 for anyone else, but you can have the extra bonus for being educational.

Depends how often i get the frost resitance buff.. because it can stack!

Einfach nur hübsch, wirklich toll anzuschauen 🥰 wie so oft muss man eben wissen für was man die Jacke/Schutzausrüstung nutzen möchte und für leichtes Sparring oder eben einhändige Sachen die nicht so hieblastig sind sehe ich die Jacke als eine wunderschöne Option 😊

Does anybody have any experience with this Diamond Plastron vs the other plastron from SPES (the one with the fake leather finish)?
With my current jacket I keep on getting injuries on my ribcage when I do longsword and receive a thrust but I don't want to bulk up so much that I can't move. Plus, this Diamond plastron seems to leave a lot of open space in the armpit area (which is where I get hit the most).
Coverage is about the same with the leather one being a bit more protective (and stiff). The armpit will always be vulnerable, else you'd loose a lot of mobility. I personally wear a plastic plastron from Olympic fencing under my Jacket and am quite happy with it for protecting my ribs. I use the Allstar one.
@@SchildwachePotsdam I started wearing an olympic fencing plastron under my jacket after the first injury but I got injured again 2 days ago with that so I need something additional with as much protection as possible under the arm.
I like the Diamond plastron better, but it seems like it doesn't extend much to the sides.
I should upgrade my jacket (I have an older SPES 350N which is just an heavy jacket with almost no padding), but that's too expensive for now.
Shame they don’t make one shaped for women, women wore doublets too!
I think they are working on a version for a female body shape. And as far as I know there is allready a prototype.
Too fancy ...take it off I cann t buy any more stuff lol
