Schildwache Potsdam
Germany
Приєднався 7 лис 2016
Welcome to my channel. My Name is Martin and I practice sword fighting since 2008 and historical fencing specifically since 2015. I started with reenactment and show fighting, but quickly became addicted to learning from historical sources. I teach a college sports class at the University of Potsdam in Germany and founded the Schildwache Potsdam. Our research focuses mainly on the 16th century sources from Bologna, but simply put: We love all swords. We do Sidesword, Longsword, Rapier, Sword and Buckler, Spear... you name it!
If you would like me to teach a class or discuss swordplay, feel free to send me an email. I hope you will enjoy our videos!

The Second Assault by Achille Marozzo - Introduction

Hi all, with this series I hope to address a few of your requests. First, the second Assalto of Achille Marozzo is quite a bit more complicated - so a detailed "how to" was in order anyway. Additionally it focuses on transitioning from wide into narrow play, which is an awesome area to work on. So in the upcoming months I'll film whenever I find the time. Be patient however, since I am finishin...

Pietro Monte gives us a glimpse into the early development of two-handed sword fighting, in his Collectanea, written in the early 1490’s. As a Renaissance general and master of arms, he taught fighting skills to nobles and men-at-arms in the court of the Sforza’s in Milan, and is referenced as an authority by both Castiglione and Leonardo da Vinci. What is particularly interesting, is he lays o...

There was indeed a Renaissance - Adrian van Bronswijk

In 2022, Dr.Lynette Nusbacher showed „There Was No Renaissance“ in her lecture and practice on Salvator Fabris, making the case that their fencing actions were actually within a countinuous line based on earlier styles and techniques. In this years workshop we want to approach the subject in question - was there a renaissance (in fencing) - from a different angle: Camilo Agrippas approach to an...
The stillness that isn’t still - Cornelius Berthold

Here is your dose of fencing theory musings for the weekend: Ridolfo Capo Ferro explains his tempo theory by distinguishing between movement and stillness. Indeed, imagining the phases between fencing actions as pauses makes sense to gain an understanding of what happens in a fight in temporal terms. However, as soon as one increases the speed (or rather: frequency?) of actions, it becomes clea...
