Alex! I have a stack of like 40 cards inwanna get graded. Mostly SIR and SwSh alts. Just wanna get em all done in one shot. Whats the cheapest way to do this? Do u need a subscription to psa?
@@NostalgiaNomics much appreciated thanks! I'm aiming to have 10 of those magikarps for 10 contenders I been scooping up singles online. As always ur dope! Great content
I strongly thought about buying a Moonbreon and grading it myself because I thought it would be a fun experience. However, I couldn't really find anything raw that looked like it could be a mint 10 and I don't have any experience with grading so I figured I would pick out something that gets like an 8 or 9 haha. In the end, I decided to save up and buy a PSA 10 Moonbreon and I'm really happy I did. I'll probably just stick to buying graded cards instead of trying to grade them myself.
I don't think so based on Ebay sales, they are still over raw prices, but below the combined cost of grading them. The people currently trying to sell them at a loss are trying to get cash flow back into their business to continue to buy and grade card. It takes less total dollars with PSA 9s to have a higher percentage increase. I know Alex was big in investing in PSA 9s at one point, but he could have changed his position which is fine. @@RayQ101
It truly is a case by case basis depending on the card and price point. I do think that 9s if they cna be bought at the same price as raw make more sense than buying the raw card.
I graded a lot of my mid to high end cards after collecting swsh pretty hard.. long story short is I got about a 65% psa 10 average on 3 different submissions. I will say that about 15-20% of my cards that didn’t get a 10 were “strong 9s” possibly a 10 if I were to regrade. Also, all but one of my Japanese cards were given a 10 (which I only submitted 8 or 9 cards). After grading for the first time I believe that for the most part grading is on point for PSA.. and there definitely seems like there might be a slight bias amongst graders to just give Japanese cards a 10.
I have this same experience in terms of the japanese cards. My pure theory is that they don't really know how to judge back centering unless it's WAY off. Japanese cards have a lot more forgiveness because of card design on back centering, if the front is centered and it's not scratched up it's basically an auto 10. I even had some I thought deserved 9s based off centering that got 10
I wonder if the amount of cards that are valuable is also a factor. Since there are so many fantastic cards to collect and more over time I think the value kind of spreads out. I know the best of the best still will be worth more but theres also more best of the best over time if that makes sense. I agree many more people are grading. I'm trying to sell more raw. It is nice for collectors to just buy a low priced PSA 10!
Totally agree Alex buy the cards for your collection you want if it’s over a certain value most Alt arts from sword and shield will appreciate overtime it’s just not a quick flip anymore so people get bored and leave so for people like us makes sense to hold on and pay the premium Love the content man UK viewer
There’s more people leaving the hobby than there are new buyers. The old people aren’t necessarily selling their cards, just uninterested and left in the closet/not looking at buying pokemon anymore.
@@nigelhankey9906 True but I feel like early 2023 was the tipping point and now, with how weak SV sets have been, people are just not interested in Pokemon and TCGs as a whole. It doesn’t mean they’re all doing poorly - One Piece and Lorcana are doing fine - just that market is much smaller than 2020-2021, 2022 began to tail off, and 2023 is in a dying state. Look at the overall volume of sales, it’s down by a million from 2022 to 2023 on eBay in listing sales. Price will hold on and some will appreciate for collectors but the days of mass selling slabs are over.
I grade a few thousand cards a year, and I agree 100% the margins definitely have shrunk, it comes down to grading the right cards that have actual demand. You can’t grade any junk $1 card and see a massive premium. There is still a market for cards with some material rarity for psa 10’s. People still like having graded cards in their collections.
I have supported your channel through everything that you went through. I was the 96 sub to your channel because I liked your market and investment takes. Now I see this is all a money grab for you and maybe that was all you planned on like PK called you out for over a year ago. You're putting money making #1 on this channel, and you have become an infomercial with a little Pokemon market info. Good luck to you, but I'm going to get my information where the person isn't trying to sell me something every time they do content 🖖
I just encountered selling in this world for the first time coming from happily buying and trading vintage MtG for years. Pokemon community is ghastly. Scammers, idiots, and not a single hesitation to gaslight sellers and utterly waste people's time. A den of rats. Pulled my listings. I'll hold my collection. Hopefully just sell it to a MtG person who understands respect lmfao
@@NostalgiaNomics I could tell very quickly that this crowd has almost no interest or care for the items and it's just a means to an end of a low effort method to make a quick buck. It was like a swarm of locusts at a high pressure car dealership lmao. Highly recommend you check out MtG community. They take this stuff seriously, care about the cards, and are way less predatory.
Well said. the pokémon halfing is amongst us. collect what you love while the market corrects and people leave, a healthy sign to look for in my opinion is when psa ect does a price drop/promo run. when comparing prices make sure to adjust for inflation because as we know our money doesn't go as far as it did last year but in reality nothing has changed People say they bought a house back in the day for pennys. todays prices are basically the same as they was then because the money printers have stayed on since nixon dropping the gold standard (1973).... If anyone is interested in understanding more, research what fiet currency is and the difference between assets and liabilities. Eg gold = asset (goes up in value). Car = liability (only depreciats in value) Collectibles are good for investing in but only once you got yout shxt together. Buy property or land 1st over a lugia or base set charizard lol
I dont buy NM cards to turn around and grade. I'll buy collections and sift through them. I don't buy just nm single cards, cause personally the NM single cards i sell wouldn't get a 10 because they are off center. So if I'm doin that then Im not risking buying off some random person. Lol.

i think this is excellent advice, i have been buying my favorite cards in psa 10 for collection. It is an amazing time to be a collector man

Ya with 40 cards it would make sense to just get the $99 membership. Only be about $2.50 a card plus the $15 grading fee.

So is it still worth it to grade older cards you have sitting around, as supply is still lower on those?
It really depends on the card honestly
Things like neo/goldstar/corocoro mew etc you definitely send to grade. Like he said just depends on the card.
Looking forward to Whatnot Alex! Been a while
You're right on the margins shrinking. Got to be good at pre grading. Got my feb psa order back today. 27 of 30 cards hit 10
Not hard when 90% of your cards are probably less than a year old….
Do you still hold that PSA 9's are better investment vehicles over PSA 10's in terms of overall percentage price growth?
No 😂 PSA9s are all at or below raw prices now.
I don't think so based on Ebay sales, they are still over raw prices, but below the combined cost of grading them. The people currently trying to sell them at a loss are trying to get cash flow back into their business to continue to buy and grade card.

From being a collector buyer flipper for the last year I personally buy/sell raw cards at psa 9 prices & most ppl I deal with will agree to that deal

I don’t grade cards. Too much hassle for me. I just buy graded when I see good enough prices I’m comfortable with.

So many junk slabs out there, seen people shovel them 500 at a time for $10 a slab average 😅
