When the Antiques Roadshow was watchable. Love the background noise, gives off good vibes.
Who was this expert? I can't remember his name but he was fantastic.
Simon Bull. One of my favourites.
@@kingy002Thank you! Same here.
needs to be in a museum thats dedicated to the technology of yesteryear
No, they need to be used but with care. They are still capable of very good work, mine is in regular use and dates from 1811.
Industrial Revolution artwork!
Lovely.~
great
the value of such a lathe is now in the 10-40 k range
What would that fetch in the States today ? 🤔🤑
The way the expert talked about it, the valuation seemed very low! Thought he was going to say ten thousand!
It was filmed in 1999 when £2000 was quite a tidy sum..
@@timpsk9440 Granted that £2k back then would buy you more than now, but it still wasn't that much. The way he was talking, I thought it was going to be £20k

What someone will pay in "antiques " terms ...value ...is just a number.
It always puzzles me what people will pay for some marks on canvas. .yet that this ...
Now what if his great grandfather has sold that when he got it, invested the money in the market or a savings account…so 75 years of earnings…and left that to his great grandson…would be far more than 2000gbp…everyone watches this stuff when they have family heirlooms handed down and think its some great return…youve had to store and lug that thing around for 170 years…for what, $2800?not worth it…a bond would have been worth 100x that
these lathes are worth in excess of 20 or 30 K - this must be an ancient video from the 80s
