    Everyone has to experience progress. To Build is to Plan, and To Plan is to Build. You are one of those that I watch, I feel "Kindred" to in a sorta weird way. I too was a LandStar BCO for over 8 Years. I seen some really great Loads. I Learned so much from my time there.
    I have since moved on to another "OwnerShip" of a Truck with a Carrier that does things differently. Not quite the Authority and MC number thing that you are doing. But to see that you are steppin out and Doing something that you feel is a Natural Progression - Good on You!
    I really hope that you continue to share with us your adventures, and the Good and the Bad with the same passion that you put into these videos. I look forward to whatever you do, and hope that we can someday compare our experiences in a way that helps others. Landstar is a good place and I think some people on this platform fail to understand exactly what they are good for... You seem to have the knack for reminding people of that. #GodBless #KeepRRollin

    I think you should do a video on all the process of getting your own authority and the red tape you have to go through.... and of course the costs involved ( especially how you decide on insurance, considering this is a huge expense).

    Congratulations. Very exciting. An idea. You have a platform here. Once you have authority. Depending on how you set it up and you can always make changes. You could have some guys running under your authority. Similar to landstar but on a small scale. Guys could pay their own insurance. Just a thought. Anyway I hope you keep us updated on the progress. I’d like to see it. Let everyone know what it takes

    Definitely a lot consider going to your own authority like 30-60-90 day wait times for pay unless you factor plus the cost of new insurance as well. I hope the pay covers that further than it costs. I think you could’ve done a whole lot better with Landstar but living out west made it a challenge for sure. You could’ve done a lot better running a Midwest Texas northeast kind of triangle.
    How fast do you normally drive? I think your fuel costs were way to elevated especially with the discounts Landstar gets you at the pump. You’re gonna have to lower your costs dramatically. If you were barely surviving with no truck payments you’re about to essentially create one with all the costs that comes with your own numbers. I do wish you luck and appreciate all the information you’ve complied here

    I hope this isn’t too late: please consider staying at Landstar. Unless you have freight with a customer already lined up. Otherwise you will be up against a load board. Which has many problems. Most brokers take a lot off the top. (I’m a shipper I know). Also a new authority will disqualify you from some loads. Some companies require 5 years of history. I have had brokers find ridiculous reasons not to pay (i.e we didnt get original paperwork). long story short more stress and money is about the same if not worse.

    You are providing valuable insights to potential Owner Operators about the challenges in the current market. The move to the Spot Market might not result in higher profits immediately because operating costs will increase unless rates climb from $2.00 to $2.20 per mile.
    That said, there is potential for rates to rise, making the move worthwhile in the long term. Another option to consider is flatbeds, which often provide better rates and flexibility.
    However, I would not recommend reefers due to the excessive time spent at shippers and receivers. The pay typically does not justify the delays and added hassle.
    Positioning yourself in the Spot Market could be a smart move, especially if it means maintaining similar earnings initially compared to Landstar, but with greater control over your operations. Best of luck as you make this transition.

    • @truckingthesevenseas
      @truckingthesevenseas  19 днів тому +1

      Ya this is exactly my thinking. Position myself for when the market rates increase. Short term pain for long term gain.

      Don't get it twisted. Your salary is directly tied to the cost of living in your area. Your $114,500 is nice, but you ain't exactly raking in the dough. Also, there is something to be said about the man who works for himself; calls his own shots. If he wants to take a month off, he can do so without having to ask permission or explain himself to anyone. Don't get me wrong, the money is nice, but it ain't everything.

      @@nattydreadlocks1973 Yup, housing costs way more, so does food and getting around (it even takes longer to drive around). At lease if you’re living in your truck, you only need to pay for fuel to heat or cool your truck. APU/Generator/Whatever floats your boat. A lot cheaper than being a Union driver in Seattle with ways less risk.

    • @GoldGunsandGolf
      @GoldGunsandGolf 19 днів тому

      @@nattydreadlocks1973 That's assuming wife and I live avg.. in fact we live very cheap.. we litterally save my income and live off of her 50K job... we rent a cheap place, don't eat out, have no car payments. I've probably saved 100K in medical bills too over the last 5 years. I'll take this over living out of a truck, not getting much exercise, eating truck stop food and babysitting a tractor. A lot to be said for being home every night and golfing on Sat and Sunday...

      Haven't had any major issues. Biggest problems I've had with the freightliner ate the NoX sensors. Both ends went out... Cost about 1500 each so that hurt. That's about it though.

    To make it at LANDSTAR you have to build relationships. That is the only way you’re going to make it most good loads. Don’t hit the Load Board and once you get your own authority, you have more expenses and you’re not gonna get the discount. LANDSTAR gets on fuel and a lot of perks that landstar have

    • @truckingthesevenseas
      @truckingthesevenseas  15 днів тому

      Knight pays by the mile so you are pretty much going to make the same (more or less) at knight whether the market is good or bad. Its companies that pay percentage (Landstar) that are more questionable during down markets.
