    There is a huge lesson in this channel that a lot of people are gonna hate, trucking is very profitable for certain people, people with no responsibility who can dedicate there life to their business those will be compensated at the end just like any other business owner in any other industry, people underestimate what owning a truck is a huge deal, what makes you think you can own a business and have the weekend off, or even mentioning home time as a business owner is ridiculous, that’s why most fail, props to you man for sticking to it and just going all in, proving that even on a horrible market you can keep progressing

    If you do get your own authority you should keep making the videos and sharing the numbers. So many people think they can make a hundred thousand dollars investment into a truck and get rich only to find out they can’t go home if they want to stay in business. Your videos are a great reality check. Keep making them shipper relationships. I can’t imagine getting my own numbers without arrangements with shippers.

    Landstar takes 35% always glad to see all the data including the negatives against you. I don't blame you for wanting to leave and become independent. This is a bad year in this industry.

    You're going to be fine. You are already in the 1%. You know where the money is coming from and where it is going. 99% don't know how much they made or where they're spending it. Clearly you aren't scared to work hard (operate the equipment) or do the hard work (think). Luck... you've done the preparation, the opportunities will come. Best wishes.

    Nice video, doesn’t seem worth it for most people to be an owner op in this market. Very interested to see how the numbers look once you have your own authority next year.

    I’ve been watching you since landstar I had my app in and got approved all the way up till this morning I had to turn it down I’m with Bruce Oakley Trucking owner op and it’s just so slow I decided to stay where I’m at at least I still get paid loaded and empty miles and I average 2000-2300 miles a week and still make what your making if not more vs the miles your running I pull an end dump maybe you should give Oakley a shot seems better

    Besides hauling dry van freight, have you trying hauling flat bed? I seen load couple of loadboard that show better RPM (rate per mile) than dryvan.Also have you looked into hauling DOD/govt loads? And or Entertainment tour loads? I know LS has those types of loads..Before leaving LS perhaps you may want to look into it before leaving & opening your own MC. Just a thought.. 💭

    • @truckingthesevenseas
      @truckingthesevenseas  9 днів тому

      I have considered running flatbed but not jumping into that yet. I would like to keep things consistent for the channel and also the complexities of moving from Knight to Landstar and then to spot are going to be a steep enough learning curve anyway so I will stick with van...

    I would caution you with getting your authority it kinda sucks and is pretty hard to keep busy while maintaining profit and for the first year hardly any brokers will use you call around to check on this I know some people do better than others

  • @rodtimmer2456
    @rodtimmer2456 11 днів тому

    I saw you made a comment that doing $7500 a week is not a real possibility, not exact wording. I’d argue that point. For me I’m averaging just under $5800 a week before Landstar % and only working on average 20 days a month. So if I were to do what you do, which I 1 day off a week, $7500 would not only be possible, but on the low end.
    I say this to say jumping to your own authority is not going to be easy. Especially in this market. You’ll have higher insurance, higher fuel costs and lower revenue. I’ve got friends that have had their own numbers for several years and are struggling. Keep in mind you’ll only be able to haul for the very bottom of the barrel brokers for the first 6 to 12 months once you get started.

    i hear going pure spot market is tough bro. Depressed rates reduced by factoring fees. Teh only easy way to make real money in trucking is to have a fleet of trucks

  • @JustAnotherTrader
    @JustAnotherTrader 9 днів тому

    I would seriously not look at spot market........its been in the dumps for ages now. May not be the best rate but the larger carriers at least pay every week, no factoring, have stable loads. Personally looking at food grade tank for an owner operator position. The slow down in the end of the year is minimalized because everyone needs to eat. Lots of oils, sugar, juices to be hauled.

    Owner Operators are making less than company drivers right now and taking on more risk.
    Doesn't make a lot of sense!

      You don’t make sense, opening a business literally means your gonna work more for less for a lot of years until you build that solid foundation, once you build that solid foundation people are gonna call you lucky

      You dont build a solid foundation in trucking rates and fuel are up and down and you have no control over either one.

      @@CarryMePlz2239 i can pick where i go.
      Been doing this 24 years.
      Where you go determines what you do.
      There is just not justification for making less to say "I am lease purchase" or "I am an owner operator".
      The only time it would be smart is if tou buy bulk fuel and can control fuel prices AND you have contract rates that arrnt up and down.
      To each his own though @

      Freedom is priceless. Never ever getting sent into a snow storm again, being home for family if needed.. When you factor in the tax writeoffs, it's about the same money probably for now. When the market flips this will all be more than worth it.

    Your getting 5266 per week, 6.4 dh, i don't think you can do better in the spot market right now. You need to have fuel surcharge and a great fuel discount card mandatory. Spot market are the leftovers, and the rates are extremely poor right now. Worse than the 2.52 your getting now. Just saying, good luck.

    • @truckingthesevenseas

      Quite possibly... My attitude continues to be that the market will improve soon. And once it improves I would like to be running spot...Now i said that when i came to Landstar and it didn't happen but the market cant stay this way...

    You may want to consider leasing on with a company that gives you a better cut and lets you do spot market so you can learn before you are on your own. Like Trucking is a good example.
