My Dad's life long hobby of stamp collection! (SOLD)

- My dad passed away unexpectedly in October at the age of 88! He left his life time hobby of stamp collecting behind from all over the world. He has been collecting since a young man in Portugal and I remember him selling part of it to make money to come to Canada. I was 10 years old then, that's 52 years ago!
I do not collect. He had told us that at 1/3 book value his collection was worth about $30000 CAD. I just wanted to find someone local to make a decent offer and take it all to help my mom! I know she would be happy with a third of that ($10000), that's now 1/6th the book value, to help pay part of her expenses!
Wow - I can imagine the tens of thousands of happy hours your dad spent on that collection. Thanks for putting this on UA-cam - hopefully you found a loving home for the collection. We collectors know that our stewardship of our stamps is only temporary and that the time eventually comes to pass everything along to the next collector.
WOW. Your Dad left you quite a legacy. Something to be proud of. I don't envy you the task of selling it off. Looks like you could sell the duplicates alone and not make a dent in the main collection. Wish I could assist in the appraisal, but i don't know enough about world wide collections. I'm going to show this video to my wife so she'll stop rumbling about my eleven volume collection. Thanks for sharing.

I am a stamp collector and am blown away. This is a truly diverse and large collection to be proud of
WOW an amazing collection. Very few people collect the world any more. 30000 CAD seams low for a collection this extensive. Several firms still travel and buy complete collections. Best to use a American Philatelic Society member or equivalent. One stamp could increase the amount. Sonya
The collection appeared to be mainly stamps from the last 60 or 70 years with a few earlier stamps. These stamps are not worth a lot of money. Many stamp dealers sell stamps for 10 to 20 percent of book value because they are not worth any where need those values. It was a fantastic collection with thousands, possibly tens of thousands, of hours invested in it. It was a collection of something he really loved and was devoted to.

I thought I have a big collection but compared to your father I´m only a small padawan. This is a nice collection and you should contact several auction houses to view it. From the Canada book there are some interesting. An auction house can say what is possible to get.

Many many years. I am 62 years old now, when I was 10 my dad sold part of the collection to bring us to Canada!

I do not know who will buy my stams. I have around 7 years stamp collections of uae, usa , gb, bahrain, oman malayisia just hobby collection not a rare. But i do not see any buyer here in my state of gujraat.
I advertized on local sell groups and looked for stamp clubs!
