Been using this this whole year. This is indestructable...recently fell in some wild bushes with big thorns. I came out in scratches and nothing happened to hippack. Would buy this again.
💯 I've had mine close to two years now, and it has a lot more life in it. Such a solid pack. I should note that (before I could fit a bottle on the bike) I figured out that I could stuff a Camelbak bladder into one of the pockets to nearly double water capacity. Solid fanny pack.
Great review! Much better and in depth than most UA-cam reviewers with excellent b-roll footage. You helped me make up my mind and I ordered the pack. 👍🚴
Sweet! Glad to help!
Damn man great review! Seriously just absolutely everything anyone would need to know about this product. No bs just facts and your overall experience. Thanks and subbed
Happy to help! Thanks for the sub! 🙏🏾
I've had this since it came out and for short rides I don't feel like there is a better pack. Great review!! Spot on!!
Heck yeah! I really dig the Rapid Pack. I rarely notice it when I’m riding and it’s always enough for the short or even medium length rides.
Great review. I really like how you slowed down at first and gave the full review then went back over your reviews.
I just got the CamelBak hip pack and will use it for the first time this week. I have to have a lot of water so I can't do these bottle only packs. But that's me.
Thanks! Glad you dug the format. 👍🏽
Yeah. For the more water-needy rides, I used to stuff a bladder into one of the pockets. But my new bike can handle a full-size water bottle. 💦
@@mtb_alan yea I have my pack with a bladder and a bottle on my bike. Still seem to suck it all down to early.
Yeah that looks like a good option if my Dakine pack wears out. (Oh yeah and I hit up summit today, your video on hitting 650b really encouraged me to hit it and I got it first try! Love the videos dude!)
Yo! Glad I couple help!
Stoked for you on 650b! Yew! 🤘🏽
Highly Recommended!!!
Perfect video bro. Straight to the point. I never looked at this pack.
Thank you
Right on! Hopefully it was helpful. 👊🏽
Great pack for shorter rides. I like to spend a little longer on the trail and for that reason got the EVOC hip bag with the 1.5l bladder.
That's cool.
I started fitting a small bladder in the left pocket effectively doubling my water capacity. But now, I can finally fit a full-size water bottle on the bike, so now I can rides for eva!
Nice review. The stretchy material sold me. I don't love wearing a Camelbak, but want to carry stuff and bottle holder is nice. Living on the edge and went for the only other Olive color.
Thanks! Glad to help. That olive colorway is nice. 👌🏾
Nicely done, learned everything I wanted to learn about this product. Missing "Strength", Price point. This seems to be a lot for the money.
Really good point. Definitely worth the money.
Great review I have been considering buying one ....now I will. thanks!
Yew! Glad I couple help!
I've heard good things about this pack. The center position of the water bottle makes a lot of sense. I almost never carry a water bottle in my pack because it makes the one side sag. I do like carrying a hand pump and I'm not sure how that would fit in that pack. I suppose I could just reply on CO2s but I like having that backup. Very well done review.
Brian Vaughn what I do is I hold my pump on my frame. My pump and I think a lot of them include a part that bolts under the water bottle cage and then can hold the pump. If it’s not tight it can be a little loud but as the plastic holders expand a little I just put a bit of tape on the pump to make it tighter.
Here’s a really good pump that does come with a holder

Thanks man! Yeah...a person’s pack is like their underwear. You know best what fits your junk. 😆
@@mtb_alan 😆😆😆
Great review Alan! Easy on the brain. Good shiz
Thanks! My pleasure.
My hip pack has 2 George Michael cassettes.
Ha! 🎶 You gotta get up if you wanna get down! 🎶
L O L ! ! ! Best line of the whole vid!!!
Well done review and great edit!
🙏🏾
Good job on the video and review.
Thanks! Still using that pack by the way. Long term durability gets a score of 10 out of 10.
use it for walking and riding works good
Great review! Thanks so much!
My pleasure!
Good review. Concise and informative. Efficient information without all the "extra", very similar to this pack, lol.
Thanks! Hope it was helpful. 👍🏽
Man professional review. I don't know how you ride with a fanny pack, feels to restrictive to me. At this point I would have to wear it backwards anyway because my front butt has outgrown my rear butt! Ride on brother!
Ha! Sorry to hear about your front-butt. 😆I have to say, I tried other fanny packs that were definitely less comfortable.
Great video!
🙏🏾
Nice sideburns
Thanks Gary.
I bought a Camelbak it came not with George’s cassette it came with Wham! Greatest hits 8Trak, I belive there is an ABBA and Beegees version. I bought it before looking at this video. The Camelbak came in a lower price and with their signature Bike Podium Bottle, Not bad but not a MTB solution by MTB riders product. Still Camelbak was versatile it works great for MTB as for running and trailing. And the Wham! 8 Trak is just on the spot.
LOL! _Wham!_
I spent my first year on a mountain bike using a 10-year-old Camelbak made for...I dunno what it was made for other than jumping around on my bike. 😆
I think it had an INXS cassette in it.
I thought about a fanny pack, but I don't have a fanny to hold it up🥺. Also, I need space for 4-5 audio cassettes for my Walkman 😁
Ha! Need you some Caselogic. 😆
I love that the fanny pack made a come back! Check it, WHAT?!?!
Ha! It's true. I had a me a Jimmy Z fanny pack back in the 80s.
@@mtb_alan Me too, man! HA!
Thanks for the review. Can you share the maker/style of the shorts with the red or maybe they were orange zippers? Thx
No problem. 100% Airmatic.
MTB ALAN thanks for the info on the shorts. Very much appreciated. You also mentioned you were able to fit a bladder in the pack but you didn’t share any specifics. Can you share that info as well?
Wow! Great video!!! I have a weird shoulder neck thing that makes it very u comfortable to wear backpacks!!! This helps me so much!! So happy I found your channel! Wish you much success. You need more subs for sure!!!
Wondering if you can provide me to a link to a website or video. Having a hard time. I’m trying to get the best gear that mountain bike pros use: helmet, gloves, mountain bike shorts (or just some shorts with zipper pockets that are great), padded undershorts, neck brace, etc. I honestly don’t care about price. I just want the best.
Hi Joe. Really stoked to hear how much you appreciate this episode. I've compiled a list of the core gear I use...I probably should have done this a while ago. Thanks for giving me a reason to do so. 😁 Have a look here: kit.co/MTBALAN
Hope that helps!
MTB ALAN thank you!!! You the man. You have IG? I would like to follow you on IG too if you do. Take care
mtb_alan
MTB ALAN followed!
Thanks for this review - hadn't seen this pack prior. Would a small bike pump fit in one of the pockets?
No worries. If it were pretty small, you might could squeeze it in there but it might make it uncomfortable. FWIW, I carry C02 instead. And if I am on a ride long enough where I want something as trusty as a pump, I'll take a bigger fannypack or a backpack.
Great video, very informative. Only one question - will it fit a small/medium size first aid kit in one of the pockets?
Thanks! Maybe a small one.
Thank you for this review. Do you feel the water bottle in the middle of your spine, either the bottle against your back, or the top poking into your back while riding?
My pleasure. I don’t
Nice review! What's the largest size water bottle that would fit in the pack?
Thanks! Same as any that’d fit in a bottle cage.
You need that hair flip when taking off the helmet in the beginning!
Ha! Don't I need flippable hair first? "I prefer 27.5 hair...way more flippable." 😆
Alan, do you think this pack would keep a frozen water bottle semi cold? Do you think this pack can provide some insulation for a bottle in hot climates? Thanks and great job on the video.
Thanks Scott! My pleasure. I don't think the pack will help keep a bottle cold since the holster is partly the elastic piece across the back. It may keep a frozen bottle from freezing your spine though. I could tell you for sure though.
Nice
🤘🏽
I wish it had a way to carry a light rainjacket. Do you carry one when riding the hip pack?
I have in the past been able to stuff my Patagonia Houdini windbreaker in this pack. I dunno if it could hold anything thicker though.
That being said, I have a times used the water bottle holster to hold a thicker jacket. Works well if you can put your bottle on your bike.
Does it breath well? Would it make you warm and sweaty underneath it?
It’s funny. I never thought about it because I never noticed getting sweaty from it. So I’m gonna say the back panel lets air flow well enough.
What size bottle can you fit into the middle bottle pocket, as i am either going to buy a 510ml or a 710ml bottle?
Hi Joe.
I normally have a 650ml bottle in there, so I think either of those sizes would work as long as they have the notch in the standard place...the same place that would work on a standard water bottle cage. Hope that helps.
@@mtb_alan thank you i got the bigger one and the hip pack is working great
Sweet!
Dude is straight out of "The hateful 8"
🤠
Would a 216mm lezyne mini pump fit?
I don’t think it’d fit comfortably.
It comes in olive green now.
I saw that! Sick color.
Great review by the way. Found your channel while looking for reviews on this product.
@@DCNewsom42 Right on! Hope it was helpful.
What do you figure are the chances of becoming paraplegic if you fall on your back?
Assuming you’re talking about the placement of the water bottle. The chances are probably no greater than without it unless one has a spine that’s weaker than a water-filled plastic bottle whose nozzle pops open with the pressure caused by the bubbles from a Nuun tablet. 🤷🏾♂️
Would it fit a 5,5 inch smartphone? I'm a bit torn getting this one or the Osprey Seral 7. Thanks.
Your phone will definitely fit. My phone is ~6 inches. Hope that helps.
@@mtb_alan Great, thank you for replying! Really good review btw, much appreciated!
🤘🏽
..so I don't wear this in the front??
LOL! Nothing's stopping ya! 😆
Do the straps come loose while riding? Do you find you have to retighten them every now and then?
Good question! Once I have the pack to the tightness I want, it pretty much just stays. The only times I’ve had to tighten it was when I’d had the pack a little too low on my hips when I initially snugged it up. The pack tend to fit best when it’s riding just on top of the hips. Hope that helps! 🤘🏽
@@mtb_alan thanks so much! Ended up buying one today
Got myself a fanny pack, they were having a sale at the Gap. Spend my nights with a roll of bubble wrap. Pop, pop...I hope none sees me, get freaky!
😆
@ 3:04 where are you riding?
Snow Summit. Partywave trail. 👍🏽
@@mtb_alan thank you man
can the watter hole hold a 1L bottle water?
It should since bike water bottles generally have that groove in the same place. I'm not sure if it'll move more or not when the bottle is full.
@@mtb_alan alright then thx for that
Would this pack be good for trail running in addition to MTBing?
I can say for sure. I have run on the trail with this pack on when I ran back up the trail to see about a buddy that went down. 🤷🏾♂️😆 But I can say that I wear it up on top of my hip bones (not slung down like I see people do), and it fits pretty snug. Now that I think of it, the design is similar to the runner's belts I've seen. Hope that helps.
Hi Matt, I have used this pack for about a year now. I first bought it for MTB and am extremely happy the way it performs as such. I recently tried it for trail running (20 km loop, 1000 m elevation up and down again, on the road, trail and in the snow). I was thoroughly impressed by it. I was playing with the idea of getting a specific trail running pack but now I am convinced that the rapid pack will do the job with ease. I especially like the bottle holder as I have never been a huge fan of hydration packs for running. The bottle allows you to refill super quickly in a stream or at a fountain. As people said before, the pack hugs crazy good (no matter if full or not) and this holds true while running too. I hope this helps.
Ah! Nice to get hear some real experience on this topic. 🙏🏽
do float?
