My number 1 issue with their reason “to move on” is that they should have handed it off to another creative team. Just bc you want to move on doesn’t mean that the show needed to end and be rushed!
Egos where over the roof at that point, I think they didn't want somebody else to get credit for making 3,4 seasons that would be remembered as better than something they created. Instead they butchered last two seasons and went down in history as most hated producers of all time. Smart choice.
@@almostvlue9364 They did get a Netflix deal but anything they have produced has been mediocre and lukewarm in reception. In all honesty, if I see their names on projects, I skip them. There's a series they produced coming out and they are using some of the actors from GOT to try and stir interest. I'll skip that as well. Fool me once and all that.
@Filip Rochette lol after season 5 they ran out of source material cos the books only reach season 5. They aren't talented enough to work without Martin's source material as their career pre GoT shows. That's why Disney Dumped them.
Yeah. Well, to be fair (if we ever want to be fair...) they were also the EPs who approached GRRM and got the deal with HBO to bring the show to life. I.e. without them there would never have been a show for us to fall in love with, regardless of the final seasons. So yeah. Apart from the bringing the show into existence for all of us to enjoy, they were just a couple of writers.
@@AnitaClue They wrote in the earlier seasons too when the show was amazing. It's sad that (I'm assuming) ego kept them grim bringing in more writers/help. Maybe they wouldn't have gotten burned out and us fans wouldn't have been left soooo disappointed. Their failure in the end really tarnished their good work earlier on.
They could have hired the most massive team of writers to help. Literally anyone would have dropped what they were doing to work on GoT. They could have decided to step back and hand the reigns to someone else. No one would have thought less of them. They still would have gotten Producer credits and a paycheck. The sheer amount of ego culmonating to a collossal failure is just sad.
How would that have helped? Bran would still be King and Dany would still be an insane mass murderer. No amount of writers could make that palatable to the masses. If Dany is the bad guy, then the majority of fans were going to hate it. Well, that is Martin's ending, so bringing in more writers wouldn't help a damn thing.
@@TangoNevada There are no other endings. What are you talking about? So speculation? I don't understand. Dany going mass murderer insane, and Bran becoming King are GRRM's ideas. So the ending is the right ending because it's what the author's ending will be. The only thing you can really complain about is Arya killing the Night King. And even that doesn't matter, because following GRRM's ending, the Long Night battle is not the last battle. Somehow King's Landing matters more. Because of the Dragon Queen. Again, no amount of writers or additional episodes was going to make you like the ending. You were going to hate evil Dany and King Bran NO MATTER WHAT!!!
@@kryptiqk2141 Actually I don't agree with that. I believe you're right, Martin gave them a framework but they took a shitty route to meet his plot points. Other writers might've made Dany's turn to the Dark Side more understandable, made Bran becoming King more logical. That's all most people are asking for- a more logical story. Take Bran for example, if during the final season he worged into one of the dragons and helped fight, or used his powers to influence the Night King in the past, or somehow gave the Living a weapon to help fight the Undead he would've earned peoples' respect and support to be King. As it is, he did NOTHING. He sat in his chair and told Jon he was a Targaryen, that's it.

The story I always heard was that D and D wanted to move on to the Star Wars project they were offered but by rushing GoT and the hate they got they were fired from the Star Wars job and if that's true that's awesome. They deserved to be fired.
They "deserve" NEVER to be hired as writers except perhaps for MY small town newspaper with a circulation of about 1,500. Their "trash" is good enough for us. AND George R.R. Martin who abandoned his writing projects for the fame of yet another botched series lives here so it is PERFECTION.
@@alexdarkz3339 the official version is that they backed out of their Star Wars trilogy because they were too busy with other projects. Sounds strange to me because I haven't heared anyone else ever beeing too busy for Star Wars. It is just too big of a name to drop.
They’re still pretending people were just upset that it ended. Refuse to acknowledge the criticism isn’t toward it ending but *HOW. It was the lack of quality and disregard for the story and characters in order to wrap up the show that upset fans.
@@tha_jet_king3537 the dialogue objectively became poorer in caliber as the show went on. The pacing too made no sense. We had 4 seasons building up the show, 2 in the interim and then 1.5 for the climax, then wrapping the show up in the last three episodes. Seasons 5-8 were objectively rushed. The plotlines regarding petyr baelish marrying sansa to Ramsay in the north just didn't happen in the books, creating a cascade of plotline failures that totally detailed the story. Euron goes from a lovecraftian villain in the book series (and a valid candidate for bringing the wall down) to a horny meth head. I don't care that daenerys went mad. I never even liked her character anyway. I don't care that Jon snow fucked off north. Never particularly liked him either. I'm not upset with the ending, I'm upset with people praising these two goons who's only talent was googling the answers to GRRMs interview questions in advance (I'm serious, look it up) and thereby usurping the rights to make the show. Any time they deviated from the source material their adaptations were genuinely horrendous. Qarth season 2, iron islands season 2-4, mereen plotline, baelish plotline season 5-7, varys plotline after season 4. They turned a show about political machinations into a lord of the rings rip off with zero soul to it I'm convinced people who defend this nonsense have sub zero IQs or are trolling. Not sure which you are.
Actually it was good thru season 6. Season 7 and 8 were rushed garbage. Breaking Bad and even arguably Better Call Saul had their best seasons as the LAST seasons. That truly says something. GoT peaked around the halfway mark. Justified had a flawless series finale, Six Feet Under too, hell even Deadwood season 3 had a beautiful ending and that wasn't even supposed to be the ending (the movie 12 years later was good but wasn't necessary). Game of Thrones was the biggest and most ambitious series ever created and it TANKED. If walking Dead had so many seasons and spinoffs then GoT should've had that no problem. Boardwalk Empire is another great example. Hurricane Sandy obliterated the entire expensive set in Brooklyn yet the show still went 2 more incredible seasons (S4 is arguably the best) and then S5 was only 8 episodes but still a beautiful ending that fit the series perfectly. The GoT finale is like a SNL parody of what once was a great show.
It’s obvious D&D were tired of doing the show after a few years. What they should have done is left the show to move on to something else. But they wanted control and they wanted to end it themselves to the detriment of the fans and even the people involved.
They didn't get tired, they enjoyed the mechanics of running the show, they simply lacked the creativity to finish the show in a way that was satisfactory, and lacked the self-awareness to hand it over to people who could write the scripts and build a storyline that built on the world of George R R Martin
Her facial expressions said the exact opposite. Inside she was screaming season 8 is the equivalent of the crap Sam was tasked with dumping out of the chamber pots during his time at the Citadel.

I hate modern- day show runners and studios. How many more Star Wars trilogies do they want? The degree of hybris and greed is unheard of, they have no love for Game of Thrones nor Star Wars nor anything
I honestly don't take issue with anything that happened in the final season, what I take issue with is that season 8 could have easily been expanded into three more seasons. The long night should have been a season long in and of itself
If they wanted to be involved with something else, then hand it over to another creator. It's been done before, the guy who did True Blood did it (he also did Six Feet Under, can't remember his name). They could have stayed on as executive producers or whatever, but they wanted complete control, their selfishness and arrogance is a reason why people hate them.
I agree that the season 7 infected vamps was disappointing to say the least compared to some of the other villains/themes of earier shows. But season 6 with the fae and Warlow and Billith i thought was so masterfully carried out. Especially the Jessica and Adilyn relationship. And Terry. That was just so well carried out imho. Season 7 waa meh, until the last three/4 episodes. When Bill got sick, Jess and Hoyt, even Jason and Bridget-but Sookies refusal to leave Bill came wonderfully full circle and although there wasnt much of Eric being typical Eric, -i did love the ending, with the infomercial. Still love both books and tv show. Even though it diverged a lot, it still worked for me and that is rare as i am a book nerd. Oh, Alan Ball was the creator. Apparently, they are doing a reboot... Sick of reboots, and especially when it hasnt even been even a decade...And nobody could EVER replace Nelsan as Lafayette. RIP. Imho.
The reason they didn’t bring more writers is simple: greedy basterds wanted all the fame and glory for themselves! You really think these egotistical maniacs would let another name be added to the “creators/mastermind” list of of this show? Nah, especially if that meant the preposterous possibility of the show continuing on without them if they dropped off due to “exhaustion.”
Before the season came out, she said she ran out of her apartment and walked around the streets for hours when she read the script. That told me everything I needed to know.

I originally thought no one was to blame really, but D&D and HBO were definitely too ambitious for their own good. 1. They should not have changed the story too much if they were still expecting GRRM to write the continuation. 2. They should have pushed to let other writers take the reins. 3. Since apparently, it was a really good workplace, they should have disillusioned themselves from that positive workplace and got the balance of outsider opinions.
For me, the worst part about the ending of GoT is that it ruins the prequels for me. How can I feel invested in these stories from hundreds of years before GoT took place when I know what the end result is of the most existential event that would come to the universe? And how unsatisfactory that result was? It’s like anything that happened before that immediately became irrelevant for me. If they were sequels that happened later in time, that would draw my interest perhaps. Idk maybe it’s just me but I find it hard to care about Targaryen family members or the origin of the Night King at this point knowing the cannon of how they end up.
I'll give you some hope: because, as a TV show, it is possible to be redone in the future and (hopefully) not flop (too much). Like Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, or some X-Men films...
@@Itomon agreed. The full metal alchemist or HxH remakes were amazing. However, it is suuuuuper sad that when that remake happens, we will likely have none of the brilliant cast members we had the first time around

You are stronger than I. I cannot even rewatch season 1 now or any season for that matter. What's the point, all the foreshadowing means nothing, everything meant nothing.
The 1,000 blades of Aegon’s enemies can’t make the conclusion of certain characters in S8 acceptable for me. Among them, how Jorah was written to be on a redemption arc throughout the series. He literally fought to his last moments to save Dany and IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING. Pisses me off to this day when I think about it. WOW! I’ve been triggered! Good video though!
really? lmao, Jamie Lanister actually had a redemption arc, which they pissed on in the last season, he did a complete 360 and became the same character from Season 1. PMSL.
You just knew from watching all the interviews with the stars just before the final season premiered that something bad was going to happen . When I saw the Interview with Kit the first time I could see they were gonna destroy the show .
Put the blame squarely where it belongs: On George R R Martin. Only when he failed to produce more books as agreed did D and D begin to alter the universe in ways we didn't like. In front of the camera or behind, these Hollywood-types are ALL actors, and D and D can't come right out and criticize Martin. But their silence for the last several years spoke volumes. I don't see why people are coming down on them so hard. They did an excellent job with what they had. . . and when they no longer had it, it wasn't THEIR doing!
I won't get tired of saying that HBO should do an animated adaptation of ASOIAF. There is enough material to go for years without having to wait for GRR Martin to finish the story and I don't think it would cost as much as live action. We can only dream, I guess :c
lots of adults don't like animation mind, i certainly don't...i have friends that do and i totally get it whether it's rick and morty, family guy or 'anime' but not for me thanks it would be hard for a lot of people to take it seriously, myself included
Everyone wants to turn popular stories into cheap cartoons for some odd reason. I’ll never understand that appeal, and no offense, but I can only dream this NEVER happens.
@@jimmymcgill2557 I don’t think he’s talking about that animation. For instance, if you have seen avatar the last air bender, you know that the animation is pretty well done and many adults love the show. They could have done it in that type of style. It could have gotten so much love as well.
Animation. Especially good animation is EXPENSIVE. Arcane, for example, was massively expensive. Yeah something in the style of like early South Park is cheap (it just had good writing). But 2D or 3D; something on the level late Clone Wars or Avatar the last Airbender. Spider-Man Into the Spideverse….EXPENSIVE. The reason something like say Simpson’s isn’t super expensive is there’s a lot of things like reused locations (such as the house where the characters live and the school). Animations, especially GOOD fantastical animation is Not cheap at all. It’s just expensive in a different way. Because of the creatures and such, most love action fantasy work now a days is 50% photo realistic animated elements.
I'm quite frankly still pissed about how varys was killed. It's a tragedy where they took so many of the characters. How in the hell did it not feel right for jon snow to kill the night king? The entire show was centered around jon and the night king.
@@christiangomez3901 It didn't happen because without Martin's books to guide them they were entirely clueless in continuing the story in an intelligent manner, so they reverted to the one thing they knew was somewhat successful -- coming up with ways to shock the audience, and shock it they did! What they didn't seem to understand was -- DON"T shock the audience with something that will ruin the story.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like they didn't want to bring in more writers or hand it off to someone else, because they wanted to be known as the sole show runners of the biggest TV series on the planet, which above all else, gave them bargaining power when negotiating lucrative deals with Disney and then Netflix. And once that deal was on the table, we had a rushed final season so they could free themselves up to make bank... and reportedly Netflix is having severe buyer's remorse about the deal
@@TimeisUp22 That's the funniest part. The worst thing about the final few seasons is that everything else was expertly done. Directing, cinematography, acting (mostly), set design, makeup, music...literally everything except writing and editing.
I was so invested in this show. So so invested. I would watch each episode multiple times, know the dialogue. The first 4 seasons still stand for as the best TV I've seen. They built the story up so high, and it just crumbled at the end. So much so it's left a dark cloud hanging over the whole show
The clip that kills me is Dan and David Weiss giving a commentary on season 8 episode 3 saying, “you see the end of the Dothraki.” Two episode later the Dothraki are running through King’s Landing. There’s so many plot holes it’s awful

Daniel Brett Weiss and David Benioff.... those names are important.... because I want to remember them .... I want to be able to recognize them easily so I can know to stay far away from anything they are attached to.
What a failure. One of the best shows and they ruined it. Completely took characters and wrote them so unlike the years of character development. A writer makes a promise and they broke that promise to their viewers.
If they were getting bored or felt like it wasn’t enough of a creative challenge, then they should have been grown up enough to admit they had outgrown their baby and handed it off to someone who truly loved the series as it deserved. Instead they ruined not only a great series that had so much more life left in it to give had the books been adapted more closely, but their own reputations as well. They did GOT dirty and the fans will never forgive or forget that. I find it ironic that they rushed GOT in their eagerness to move on to a shiny new Star Wars contract, only for that to fall through (I still believe it was due to the backlash of GOT) and D & D were left with nothing at all and its unlikely their careers will ever recover.
Even worse, season 8 likely contributed to diminishing GRRM's eagerness to complete the ASOIAF books, making it more pleasant for him to dedicate his time and energy to unspoiled stuff. I do empathise, honestly.

You know I don't blame Those 2 for the final 2 shortened seasons. They apparently became completely overwhelmed by the time they surpassed the books. I blame HBO, they had the power to step in and say wait a minute, you need to do 10 seasons at 10-12 episodes per season to complete the story. If they didn't want to, then fire them and move on with writers and directors that have already worked with the show, they have plenty of talent there.
HBO DIDNT have that power here. The contract was in favor of the 2 selfish fools D&D. HBO even offered to hire a full writers room for them but they refused. A lot of HBO execs got fired with the recent mergin this has to be part of why.
@@blackfalkon4189 I wouldn’t put it like that because it blurs the lines that D&D were the ones who owned the rights to the books and pitched them to HBO and then HBO contracted them to produce the show. So if D&D said we don’t want to do another season as the producers then the network can’t force the producers to continue.
Just considering that Martin said he had enough material to go several more seasons makes me so irrationally angry, there are so many ways that this could have concluded better. If They were truly overwhelmed with work, not only did they have Martin- the guy who knows the story inside and out and has the best sense of when and where everything will happen, but they had the opportunity and most likely the budget to bring on a team of writers to help distribute the work load. For so many of us it's more than a show or a book, its a chance to be a part of a community and connect with people who we might have not before. In addition, a fantasy type story of this magnitude that originally was treated with this tone of seriousness truly had the potential to be the greatest show ever aired, and to be part of that community- be there from the beginning just to watch it crumble at the end as it did, I think leaves so many of us with a hole in our heart. Not to mention when actors or writers brush it off as "You're just mad it ended" is such an insult to their fans and shows no respect, there are many things that happen throughout the series that were hard to see or I didn't want to happen ( EX the red wedding) BUT we understood why it happened and it gave us a deep satisfaction to be "tricked". The final season didn't feel like that in the slightest, it felt like if someone did a time jump and accidentally submitted a rough draft / outline.

Why are you bitching about Season 8. Both 7 & 8 are complete BS and are clearly not in the books. GRRM approved the Season 2 House of Undying visions that clearly show .... Daeny will take the throne in winter ... and then ... will die north of the Wall. At the end of Season 6, with everybody crazy about the show, ... Tyrion was not killed by Daenys dragons who SMELLED him, Bran was heading to Winterfell to tell Jon & Sansa that they are COUSINS and he is a Prince, Cersei had just gone Mad Queen after being humiliated & threatened by a few religious fanatics, ... and ... Daeny was sailing to DORNE to join forces with her new allies. See. Nothing in Season 7 made any sense especially with Daeny sailing all the way up to Dragonstone ... and ... Bran was being led through the wall when he was at the wall at the end of season 6 ... heading to Winterfell ... to tell jon & Sansa that they are COUSINS. Again. GRRM told us in Season 2 that Daeny will take the throne in winter ... then ... die north of the wall which has not been destroyed. Jaime, Cersei & Daeny were suppose to die ... in season 7 of 10. D&D knew GRRM's story before they made the Show. GRRM is repeating Aegon's (Jon) conquest (salvation) of the Westeros with Rhaenys( Daeny) & Visenya(Tyrion). The Azor Ahai is the Three Heads of the Dragon. Jon is the Last Hero of Three ... who will take the throne & die ... saving Westeros. GRRM ... clearly told D&D ... to change the ending and NOT spoil the books. D&D had figured out GRRM's story from the books which is why they were given the TV rights. And D&D were willing to take the hatred from fans to no spoil the books. However, they made the storylines & plot armor so ridiculous and nonsensical that they had to have reached an agreement with GRRM. But again, GRRM approved the Season 2 House of undying visions .. and ... season 7 it was winter in Westeros and Daeny was on her way with a huge army and three dragons and allies across the sea in Dorne. smh.
It’s really clear all the actors were gutted how it ended. It’s going to follow them forever as well. They are going to endlessly be asked questions about the last season and why it ended the way it did. They will eventually not want to talk about it at all as it will overshadow every project they work on from now on. It’s such a shame.
But maybe this gives them a chance to move on and have long careers without being known only for GoT. Would any actor or actress want to live and work in the shadow of the best show ever that even had the best ending ever?
You know the first year after it ended I was so depressed. It was hard to accept that the show was ruined and that was that, over. I’d love to see the entire cast come back together when they eventually decide to make the reboot. They’ll have to recast all the characters, but the actors truly lived and breathed their characters, and I think they’d offer a lot of invaluable insight. Imagine having so much priviledge that you decided you were sick of playing with one toy but you didn’t want other people to play with it so you destroyed it.
Honestly, there is no reason or excuse either of them could give us that would make up for their colossal failure to give Game of Thrones it’s due course and a properly executed ending. The story deserved better, the actors deserved, the fans deserved better. Dave and Dan deserve every negative word they receive and more pertaining to what they did to the show. Admittedly, had the source material not run, it would have been better, but there is no doubt these two would have found a way to diminish it al the same since they were foolish enough to think they were capable or deserving of seeing the story to its end even after it became clear the level of writing Game of Thrones required was more than they could handle on their own.
Season 7 was just as bad. And 5 and 6 were mediocre. We were just looking at them through rose tinted glasses at the time expecting it would all still end in a neatly wrapped bow
The reason their egos were so big was the morons giving them praise for the declining work of seasons 5-7 for big budget battle scenes. They actually thought their writing was good
It really hurts and it's disgusting how they treated the show at the end. You could tell they gave up. To not speak on the show and say they just wanted to be done with it was a disservice to the fans. I wish we could get a do over with all the same actors. I know we are getting house of dragon but it's not the same 😔
It’s called ego. That is why they didn’t hire more writers and that is why they didn’t step down as show runners and pass the torch to those with more enthusiasm and drive to continue to create a top notch show. Ego. Nothing more, nothing less. But, honestly, I am done with GOT. I have also lost all respect for George Martin. He let himself get distracted by the show and lectures, conventions and other shows with all the little price tags that went with them, and has ruined all chances of ever finishing the story. The worst thing ANY professional writer can do. The absolute worst. Just ask Stephen King. He’ll tell you, ‘It is all about the STORY.”
No, this statement made perfect sense. D&D brought the show to a screeching painful halt that made no sense and undid literal *years* of careful character development because *they* wanted to do something else. And their egos were too big to consider handing over *their* baby to another creative team. Fans be damned, HBO be damned, GRRM be damned, whatever anyone else wanted didn't matter and D&D felt absolutely no responsibility to the world of Westeros. Only their desires carried any weight. They were tired of playing, so they took all the toys away from everyone even though they didn't plan to play with them. Spoiled toddlers in terrific need of a spanking. If GRRM could have foreseen this he would never have handed over his life's work to them. Disgusting. I would never watch another project by these two. I wouldn't invest my time only for it to be wasted when they got bored.
I don’t know WHY they were so tired toward the final seasons - there is very little dialogue and they’re overloaded with action. If the directors were exhausted I get that! But D&D were more concerned with making each season “bigger” with the action sequences. Even the people who worked on “The Long Night” said the show had to end because there was no way to make it “bigger” anymore. And that’s NOT why people love the story. The incredible writings of GRRM are what made this story timeless. I think that’s abundantly clear at this point. This story was never theirs; it was handed to them by its creator, who was assured it would be handled with care. And it wasn’t.
Producing is a big job. They weren't just writing for the show. They were in charge of coordinating a ton of things and had been doing it for nine years. Burnout is a fair consideration.
@@AnitaClue true. I stand corrected in that sense. But I think I’d be a lot more understanding of that if it were their own creation. They wanted to do it because they were fans of the books, first and foremost. It’s just entertainment. I get it - they wanted to do something else. It’s frustrating, however, when we all know that they were very capable writers themselves; they added many wonderful scenes that weren’t in the books, filled with great character development that even GRRM said he wished he’d thought to include in the novels. They would’ve done better by the fans, HBO, and ultimately GRRM, if they would’ve passed it on to other writers to continue the show.
@@jillthornton5512 I wouldn't go so far as to say they are wonderful writers. I think their producing game is stronger. But I will say the problems I have with the second half of the show aren't about the scenes/dialogue (though some of that had definite issues) so much as plotting and character development problems.
@@AnitaClue I said “capable” writers 😉 I think the actors’ chemistry made the scenes wonderful. And the scenes I’m thinking of were all in the first few seasons, when the show still had the backbone of the original story on which to hang them. (Scenes with the Hound and Arya, Bronn and Tyrion and Pod, Tywin and Arya, etc)
In my opinion , that was one of your best ever podcasts .That resonated with me so much you wouldn’t believe it . Thank you Talking Thrones so much for that , it was exactly how I felt about the shows final season.. After all these years your still producing top quality work .
I do believe this should serve as a cautionary tale; if the fans and network are riding high and you're feeling done with it, let it go and let others take over and finish it.
Double T you did a phenomenal job during and after the show. I really enjoyed all your videos. If you decide to do something else on the tube, I wish you all the luck and hope I see it so I can follow you there as I'm sure you'll do a great job at whatever you pursue. Thanks for all your hard work and joy you've given me from watching your videos. All my best.
I understand why a GoT channel might embellish, but in reality very few people are talking about the series anymore. Yes, they ruined the legacy that badly. Even HotD has its own separate praise mitigated by "and it all leads to Arya jumping a football field to save the world"
If you go back and watch any interview they gave from when the show was in its prime, you’ll see just how passionate they were about the series. This was their dream job, and then it became an actual job, and the passion and enthusiasm just faded away. If they didn’t care for the series, they should have given it to Bryan Cogman, or any other long time series writer to finish it up.
i completely agree that if they had handed the reigns to other writers it would have turned into the greatest show ever, rivaling middle earth in story. i hope martin decides to drag it out for many more books and continue this great world
@@heresjohnny4836 Martin himself said Bran is king. Different producers wouldn't have changed the outcome if they wanted to be faithful to Martin's series.
@@briana8088 different writers might have written it in a way that makes sense. They had nine years to set up Bran being king in a series filled to the brim with foreshadowing. They did not earn the ending.
They ruined my show. I've never had this feeling before. A story unfinished and just to be left sitting here wondering how it was supposed to end. Even George like wtf... it was his fault more than those two dummies. He was supposed to finish the book before the show finished . Breaks my heart thinking about it. Its more like an itch you cant reach
😂😂😂😂 the clip entered on his answer to why it ended 😂😂 The 2 of them ( D&D) are as thick as two short planks , there should be some sort of fine or penalty for ruining such a brilliant show , although I still love the show very much , it hurts to watch that final season ❤️❤️
I am going to share this around. Loved the video. Haha.. Loved the Cast reactions to season 8. It's pretty obvious how much they dislike season 8 but can't say it. I can't believe Dan Weiss actually admitted they rushed the show because THEY wanted to move from it when GRRM himself said they needed like 13 seasons to finish it. What makes fans really mad at them is the fact that when HBO was offering them more time and more budget, they could have handed it to someone else if they wanted to move on from it. But they wanted GoT to be completely theirs. They wanted only their name labeled on it, and that's why they ruined the show. And they had already pushed GRRM aside years ago.
It still is crazy how I haven't rewatched the show since the show ended. I used to rewatch every season before the beginning of rhe new season, every year.
Many of the problems could have been solved if only they had included more episodes. Like twice the amount at least. Can you imagine 6 episodes for the most climatic moments for the most popular show. Hell the whole 12 episodes should have been them dealing with the white walkers!
How did Jon die? A knife to the heart. And he came back? Yes, with a Red Priestess. How did Queen Daenerys die? Also a knife to the heart. Ah, so she doesn’t have a Red Priestess? Oh she does, many. …*stares blankly* ….But she’s gone, definitely! Right.
@@shelleybibeau2362 yes I believe so, and Drogon isn’t one to just let her remain dead, in fact you would feel almost obligated to try because he was a fossilized egg before his mother existed
Just towards the East. Probably either Valyria or Stygai. The implication was possibly that she would become the Day Queen in a couple thousand years. If she is to go this way in the books, she’d probably contract the Greyscale.
I’m SO CONFUSED! Did these guys NEVER actually answer the obvious question from ANY potential interviewer for the last three years: “Do you realize you destroyed GoT??” ??! I just wanna see them answer for what they’ve done! But it’s like they’ve avoided ALL contact and questions! I mean come on, is there NOTHING out there showing them answering for it all??!
Back in the day I had seen people talking GOT was better than LOTR movies. They were even comparing Dothrakis with THE RIDERS OF ROHAN. The reason why LOTR will remain in our hearts forever and people are simply trying to forget GOT is the makers. LOTR makers loved thier work whereas GOT makers just wanted to move on as soon as they saw a new opportunity(STAR WARS).
The mistake they made was killing off Daenerys. She was the hero of the whole show she should have won the Game of Thrones. She kept saying she was going to break the wheel. And then they just kill her off? It was the cheapest, laziest writing ever. They killed her off for shock value. She should have been on the throne at the end it could have been the most epic ending but instead it was the biggest mistake in TV history
The greatest show on TV for six seasons. They rushed the last two seasons like they had better things to do and just wanted to get it over with. I do not blame the actors at all, they did a spectacular job. And to know that HBO was willing to give them more seasons, now that really pisses me off.
The cast wanted to move on too. Max it could have gone was 9 seasons. But at a minimum, season 7 and 8 could have been 10 episodes each. That said, they should have brought in a new team to run the day to day and not ran for the exits. They were clearly burned out and exhausted and needed help.
To deviate from Martin’s source material is UNFORGIVABLE and downright backwards- they only made the show BECAUSE Martin’s writing is so excellent and very specific in rhythm. David and Dan should be ashamed of themselves
How insanely rich and bored are you that you decide to ruin the biggest financial staple in your life because you're bored of doing it. Meanwhile I work 3 jobs and am killing myself just to keep my head above water. I'd kill to be in your shoes. Give me the show and I'll write it
They rushed through the material and came up short during the last SEASONS. As much as the L+R=J fan theory was exciting to watch on screen, it showed that they (D&D) lacked imagination and didn't want to come up with show specific material and jumped ship before HBO caught on to the Fuckery.
HBO is equally responsible for the shows demise… It still blows my mind and makes absolutely ZERO sense that hbo didn’t just hire replacements for Derp&Derper and kept the show running for a few more seasons.🤨
If Dan and Dave weren't happy, HBO should of brought in additional creative writers to work with them a few months and then take over the show. I can't believe HBO let the show end so half-fast, it was a HUGE mistake!
They were asked about hiring more writers at the Austin Film Fest and Bennioff said, “Well we were best for it.” Bennioff wanted total control of the show even though he has no formal training in screen writing. We’ve got the evidence against him already. Check out videos on the Dragon Demands channel. GOT was a con job from the very beginning.
The words to describe my disappointment behind what these guys did, quite literally have not been invented yet, and I am beyond stressed at the realization that those words may never be invented as long as human beings walk the planet earth. This show was so truly excellent, and exciting, that it literally made u feel like u were there with the characters yourself. To tank this show the way they did after all the hours invested in watching the show, and all the anticipation behind waiting to see how it would end, the ONLY way I could even begin to describe the level of betrayal I felt was if I was still a child and my mother sold me into slavery. That's how deep the disrespect felt 4 me. (Sounds crazy, but I genuinely mean every word) 😤😠😡🤬🤬🤬🤬
"We reached the end of what made sense for us to be involved in"... Translation: We have no good original ideas and only ever had success from making a production based on other people's work. Take a look at 3 Body Problem. It's a great piece of work. But it's not their creation. And it significantly lacks the depths of the original.
When you start a series.. even CONVINCE the author to trust you in making his books into a show you make a commitment. You pledge to make it as good as you can and finish it. And if something pops up in your life and you can't finish it, you bring in replacements that can finish it as good or better. You don't just say "I can't be asked" and turn it off. I'm very saddened to hear they got a new job now. If I did this in my job I'd never get another job ever again.
The end was a mess. The long winter lasted 2 episodes, the pack that stays together separated, Jon turned his back despite being the obvious king, that went to an undeserving sub character. Jamie and Brienne went nowhere. The Dany story was not a problem and seemed the obvious ending for her, but everything else was a horrible rushed sloppy illogical mess. It was a kick in the teeth for 10 years invested as a fan.
HBO should have fired D&D once they decided to walk away... "Okay, well thanks for handling the first handful of seasons, we'll give it to someone who actually wants the job now... here's a nice severance check as a token of our appreciation"
DnD are the only ones we're upset with. 1st class directing, effects and acting in season 8. It's too bad the wrighters top priority was being "unpridictable"
I wonder if the actors wanted to do more seasons. I don't understand how these guys just had the power to end a thing so big with so many people and HBO invested in it.
It makes total sense - D&D hastily wrapped up GoT in order to clear their schedule for a Stars Wars trilogy. A SW trilogy that by all accounts has been canned.
My number 1 issue with their reason “to move on” is that they should have handed it off to another creative team. Just bc you want to move on doesn’t mean that the show needed to end and be rushed!
Creative team? Even if they handed it to someone from twitter the show's ending wouldve been better.

Egos where over the roof at that point, I think they didn't want somebody else to get credit for making 3,4 seasons that would be remembered as better than something they created. Instead they butchered last two seasons and went down in history as most hated producers of all time. Smart choice.

Yeah and to even call them "writers" gives them far to much credit considering it was George RR Martins Genius
Producers. We've seen what happened when they tried to be writers. They should stick to producing, because they are really good at that.
This is so well put it hurts.
I have read at least 100 Fan Versions of how it should have ended that were better. And they are just fans, not writers.
@@kryptiqk2141 You didn't even hear one of the other various endings. What are you talking about?

The plotlines regarding petyr baelish marrying sansa to Ramsay in the north just didn't happen in the books, creating a cascade of plotline failures that totally detailed the story.

@@jimmymcgill2557 I don’t think he’s talking about that animation. For instance, if you have seen avatar the last air bender, you know that the animation is pretty well done and many adults love the show. They could have done it in that type of style. It could have gotten so much love as well.
Yes, but 2D animation, not the 3D BS of nowadays

What a failure. One of the best shows and they ruined it. Completely took characters and wrote them so unlike the years of character development. A writer makes a promise and they broke that promise to their viewers.
D&D are an utter disgrace and should be tried in court for the way they ended the potential GOAT of all Shows..

It was a feat of epic proportions and there is no ‘Game of thrones’ without them in the first place. They have every right to see it til the end and we are not entitled to blame them for not letting someone else do it FOR THEM.
P.s google “game of thrones :7 seasons is the plan” for the entertainment weekly piece they did way back in 2013 /2014 around s3 and s4 which highlights how this was always then plan and there was never going to be anymore than we already had.
There’s also a clip on YT with GRRM explaining how in 2013 he sat down with them and told them how it ends. Some people just want to finish what they started ..how good or badly it’s done is a matter of opinion when it comes to art -something some GoT viewers can’t accept
I agree, it is HBO's fault for allowing the train wreck to ever happen. But I guess, they were just blind sighted to see it.
HBO DIDNT have that power here. The contract was in favor of the 2 selfish fools D&D. HBO even offered to hire a full writers room for them but they refused. A lot of HBO execs got fired with the recent mergin this has to be part of why.
@@simplyhuman2213 D&D were HBO employees right?
@@blackfalkon4189 I wouldn’t put it like that because it blurs the lines that D&D were the ones who owned the rights to the books and pitched them to HBO and then HBO contracted them to produce the show. HBO definitely deserves some blame since they were financing the show.
I agree with Kit’s assessment…”disappointing”

…*stares blankly*
….But she’s gone, definitely!
Right.
Didn't we see Drogon flying off in the direction of Pentos? Kiss of life.
@@shelleybibeau2362 yes I believe so, and Drogon isn’t one to just let her remain dead, in fact you would feel almost obligated to try because he was a fossilized egg before his mother existed
@@shelleybibeau2362 Not pentos, volantis
Yup that ending would’ve made up for a horrible 8the season
The greatest show on TV for six seasons. They rushed the last two seasons like they had better things to do and just wanted to get it over with. I do not blame the actors at all, they did a spectacular job. And to know that HBO was willing to give them more seasons, now that really pisses me off.
GRRM set them up so he could take all the glory and the Iron Throne
So George is really Bran Stark in disguise.
Give me the show and I'll write it
Both of them were born into rich families. Never worked a real job. They only got in Hollywood for 2 reasons
@@JB-gt5nomakes slot of sense
They didn't bring any more writers for the same reason they didn't want to pass off the show to other creators and leave. Their ego.
They rushed through the material and came up short during the last SEASONS. As much as the L+R=J fan theory was exciting to watch on screen, it showed that they (D&D) lacked imagination and didn't want to come up with show specific material and jumped ship before HBO caught on to the Fuckery.
The ending isn't "divisive" it's universally despised.
Exactly. The sopranos ending was divisive. Nobody thinks season 8 was good save for a few edgelords and morons.
HBO is equally responsible for the shows demise… It still blows my mind and makes absolutely ZERO sense that hbo didn’t just hire replacements for Derp&Derper and kept the show running for a few more seasons.🤨
There is no worse crime in modern television history than what they did to this show. Damn them.
In other words, "We were bored with it and the pressure was too much."
We just started GOT watching all again on Sunday at season 1 episode 1. 🙏🙏Thanks for sharing awesome content!
HBO should have fired D&D once they decided to walk away... "Okay, well thanks for handling the first handful of seasons, we'll give it to someone who actually wants the job now... here's a nice severance check as a token of our appreciation"
This whole thing makes me feel just sick for the Cast
DnD are the only ones we're upset with. 1st class directing, effects and acting in season 8. It's too bad the wrighters top priority was being "unpridictable"
I wonder if the actors wanted to do more seasons. I don't understand how these guys just had the power to end a thing so big with so many people and HBO invested in it.
It makes total sense - D&D hastily wrapped up GoT in order to clear their schedule for a Stars Wars trilogy.
A SW trilogy that by all accounts has been canned.
HBO - "It's yours, as many seasons as you want"
D&D - "We don't want it"
Your retelling of season 8 is canon for me. It was perfect! Thank you!
There's only 1 word that sums up ur question on why they never wanted any other writers to help them write the show. "EGO"
Pride before the fall and all that
