I like the fact that you mention there are only four buttons on the machine. That is music to the ears of a blind person.
This does seem like a good option for somebody visually impared. There's nothing sharp or hot exposed and no LCD readouts. Just press the physical on and brew buttons and your going.
I’ve been using this coffee maker for a couple of months, and it is really solid. I like its build quality more than the Buonovita I was using previously. The only nit I have to pick with it is the valve design on the carafe lid. If one is brewing, the coffee goes into the carafe. When one is pouring, it shifts to allow coffee to go through the spout. It generally works well, but if coffee grounds get into the lid (maybe you were tired and missed the filter partially), the lid will clog and coffee will run everywhere when it brews. I’ve only had it happen twice in two months, and figured out the cause, so I am more careful now. It brews an ice pot of coffee!
I have had this same experience and concur totally with your review.
I just started using this coffee maker. Is there a reason why you use a carafe instead of a mug for the single brew?
I have a Technivorm CupOne which is fine for me, but if I ever have visitors I would love to be able to brew more. Wonder if I should get this or a higher-capacity Technivorm.
Seth Wilson Depends, I would think, on whether you are financially comfortable with the expense of a Technivorm. If you do buy one, go for the thermal carafe design, not the glass carafe with a heating pad.
I have the larger Technivorm and I brew a nice 3/4 liter brew every morning with it. It has a switch for smaller brews. You can also stir the mixture mid stream for more extraction. No other coffee brewer allows this.
@@gosman949 I do too. I have two. I have a Thermal unit and also a glass carafe unit.
@@JayPFrancis and which do you like the best? I have the thermal but it doesn't keep the coffee very hot for very long. Have to microwave my cup constantly. But I don't want to burn my coffee in a glass carafe either.
Thermal
Why do you need to use a cup size carafe instead of the mug directly?
He's a fancy boy
This guy's voice is fantastic. Like butter... Good review too.
Idk about the voice but him smacking his lips every few sentences was driving me crazy
I'll bet you have the complete Liberace lp collection.
What about the water tank? How much does it hold and do you fill it for every pot that's brewed?
40 ounces. Same as the competition
It brews all the water in the tank every time. So it doesn't hold "extra" for later brews or anything - quite honestly that would be suboptimal anyway.
Is 2 cups (10 oz) the minimum that can be brewed, or can I brew 1 cup (5 oz)? Thx.
2 cups (10oz) is the minimum.
I’ve brewed 8-ounce cups.
How coarse is the 21 setting on the grinder?
I'm thinking about buying the oxo 8 cup coffee maker and appreciate your review. I struggle with the coffee to water ratio. if I like a good strong cup of coff, how much coffee do I add to the pot? Thx!
Get a small digital scale and measure out between 18-20 grams for a mid sized mug
How long does the coffee stay hot in the carafe?
Not as long as the manufacturer says. I think they say 2hrs, but at 30-40 minutes it has lost a decent amount of heat.
@@michaelmoore5235 40 minutes is my experience as well.
Is this 100-240v and is the power cable replaceable? I’d like to use one in Australia
Will Dunkin’ Donuts coffee work with this machine?
Hi, I need starbucks quality filter coffee, home type maker always brews weak coffee. I would like to buy Oxo or Moccamaster for full-bodied and strong coffee. Which is the best choice for me? Thanks
Yes
I brew Starbucks Verona with the Oxo, using about 1.5 times as much coffee as I used with Mr. Coffee to achieve a robust flavor.
Your reviews are great. I wish you would review the Cuisinart 8 cup "pour over" style coffee maker.
What’s the difference between the “small volume” button and the “carafe” button on the bottom? I know it just brews all the water, so does it have a different faux bloom time or something?
In the 2-4 cup mode it dispenses a small amount of hot water onto the grounds and then pauses a bit for the bloom. In the other setting it does not.
Thank you!
I've been trying to dial this in for a while and I'm not satisfied with the coffee im getting. I'm not assuming it's the fault of the device. What am I doing wrong? I've tried different coffees and different grind sizes.
I'm neither getting bitter nor sour as far as I can tell.. It tastes more of plastic or metal or ash, and kind of flat, perhaps oxidized.
Fresh hot coffee tastes like a stale cup.
Halp!
Hello!
That's a tough question, and not something we've encountered with this machine. I would recommend trying the same grind and coffee with another brew method. Ideally another drip brewer, but if you don't have that available a press or pour over might help you isolate if it's the machine. At that point, it could just be that the machine is not producing a cup to your taste.
A stale taste like you describe really shouldn't be imparted by the brewer. It is possible it's an issue with the filters you're using, as that's the only thing the water/coffee contacts aside from the components in the brewer. Those brewer components really shouldn't be imparting a stale taste, but you could also try descaling and thoroughly cleaning the brewer to see if there's any left over residue from manufacturing (this is not something we typically see).
Best of luck!
Are you using OXO filters, or cheap store bought filters? One person said the OXO filters are 3 times thinker than the cheap filters, which may make a difference in the brew quality.
Sorry I'm confused. You had it on 2 - 4 cups, but only got 1 cup?
For each cup , 5 oz. He drank 10 oz
If you want four cups , you would need to put 40 oz of water , it will use all the water you put inside the tank
You can’t just “press the clean button” to clean. It’s a whole other process which OXO has a video for. Otherwise good video.
Can we use a cone 2 or 4 paper filter instead of the 185 in the smaller brew basket?
Is there any wait, or wetting of grounds, like a Wetting, wait, then brew, a nd rate of flow through the grounds could Not be seen in video. I would like to have seen the time, between pushing start/Brew button, and first drip to a fuller drizzle, but that Important detail wasnt shown.
it sucks that they don't show that. but these SCA approved gold cup brewers , esp this oxo 8 cup and the more expensive (but with way more features) breville BDC450, all pulsate their water. so there is definitely a "faux" bloom occurring during all of these automated brews. these new style auto drippers are smaller versions of commercial auto brewers that you find in third wave cafes.
with that being said, these brewers are really only for coffee connoisseurs who like to entertain a lot and or have large families. you will always, always get better results from a single cup manual pour over (as long as you know what you are doing).
I’ve been using this for a couple of months. There is definitely an initial pulse, where it wets down the grounds. Then it waits a bit and sends the rest of the water through
anyone having a problem with the water temperature not getting hot enough? I'm getting a max read of 178 of the coffee stream coming out of the filter basket.
Brews a good cup of coffee, but functional mechanics of the machine are not well thought out. Most coffee makers have one lid that opens, allowing one to add coffee to the basket and pour water into the tank. Oxo has TWO separate hinged lids and the water tank is small, at the back of the coffee maker. This necessitates pulling the machine all the way out from the cabinet and turning it sideways to add water. Again, brews a good cup of coffee but making coffee in the morning should be a smoother process than this. Also, due to the faster brew, the Oxo requires more coffee for good taste, a well rounded scoop vs. a level one in my last machine.
Is the cup pedestal slippery or do it grip the cup a bit. The adaptive bottom is a great idea but by looking at it without having one, it looks it'll be many accidental messes happening.
Do you have to add hot water to preheat the carafe?
It depends on how much heat loss you are okay with. I have had it for about a month. Any heat loss hasn't been an issue for me unless I'm going to let some coffee sit in the carafe to save for a second cup.
Nice video fun and informative thank you
Not sure if this was a review for the OXO or Kalita. Confused w/er the slider to left is single cup or two-four cup.
Is there a Bloom function ?
his voice belongs on the radio but the face belongs on tv fire 🔥
Guy is putting me to sleep, great way to sell coffee!
When using small quantities 2-4 cups, the Dripper should have been conical rather than caleta .
Good job getting Adam Sandler to review stuff for you guys!
How do I brew only HALF the carafe? Regardless of pressing 2-4 cups or 6-8 cups button-IT BREWS THE ENTIRE WATER RESERVOIR TO MAKE AN ENTIRE CARAFE!
For half as much, use half the water. It always uses all the water. The settings are for the timing, but the water all gets used. Obviously you want to adjust your coffee amount. Use the smaller basket for smaller amounts.
Reading reviews of the coffeemaker I am aware that some filters come with the Oxo 8-cup “in the box.” In your demo, a couple of details would have helped your audience. For example: telling us how many filters-and of what size-are included in the purchase price (in the box); spelling the name of the filter maker whose name you use (Kalita) for those unfamiliar with that brand; indicating if other filter manufacturers offer comparable sizes that would work, unless you have some legal requirement that obliged you to say Kalita; informing the viewer that neither the carafe (again, Kalita) nor the cup are included with the coffeemaker. Most folks would assume the last one (no carafe, no cup) to be the case, but making that explicit would not unnecessarily lengthen the time you need for the video.
Tbh if you can’t figure out how to spell “Kalita” when he says it multiple times in the video 😂

Audio is very mumbled. Difficult to clearly understand you. Appeared like it would have been a decent video.
Same concept of a $20 usd coffee maker but with price label of $200
