I've used my Technivorm for over 10 years. Daily. Home roasting for over 15 years. Leave the brew lid off the brew basket. My model allows me to bloom the roast. I turn it on, let it bloom, give it a stir, then let it drip. May or may not stir again. Usually not. I brew 8-10 cups daily. I love the simplicity of the Technivorm. An automated pour over.
Thank you for sharing your experience with it. I’m super in love with my Breville. it does all that also about the same price and very very well-made. All the best!
Nice! I never thought about stirring. My Moccamaster has been in service for over 15 years. They are definitely worth the money in terms of servicability and consistency. It sure makes a damn good cup of coffee!
@@Taylor-ys2vhdoes is make it hot enough I bought smeg nd the coffee is lukewarm and If I add milk it's cold I'm searching for one that make a hot cup of coffee
I’ve had my Technivorm for I don’t even know how many years. I got used to the workflow. About filling the basket with grounds: there’s a cut out in the reservoir lid that allows you to push the brew wand to the side, which makes pouring the grinds into the basket as a last step easy. Thankfully mine can sit in a space in my kitchen where I don’t have to pull it out to fill with water.
Finally, a true working chef who makes great You Tube content! I came upon your videos by accident and consider myself fortunate finding your channel. I wish you much success in the future, and keep up the great work, Chef!
I’ve used a number of brewers but have settled on the TechniVorm Moccamaster for my morning cup and the Bonavita when needing more than 4 cups. I use the 8 “cup” version of the Moccamaster with the adjustable flow rate basket half open. This gives proper extraction time and the correct percentage of TDS for light to fully city roasts. Taste wise, this has consistently brewed the best cup out of the 6-7 brewers I’ve tried. Key to a good cup is great water, correctly, freshly roasted beans, and often overlooked, correct grind size with little fines or boulders. You’d be astounded how much simply changing burrs will effect the taste.
Believe me, I am not. I just changed my burrs and instantly noticed a difference. I want to swap out the motor on my grinder with a variable speed as I have heard that slower motors make sweeter brews. Thank you for sharing!
I have many ways to make coffee, and enjoy each one. Morning brew is a pour over, lafter lunch is a espresso, after dinner is a Greek coffee. Coffee is my one indulgence. Thank you for your hard work and experimenting. I enjoy your shows, they are educational.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you reaching out and the kindness. All the best! Feel free to leave a comment about what you would like me to review.
How you put so much effort into this is beyond me. Amazing. My palate is nowhere near as discerning as yours but I am truly impressed by the depth of your research.
I immediately drink the coffee I brew and do not like metal carafes. So ease of use for the Moccamaster is just that, easy. I am not the type of person who drinks a couple of pots of coffee a day , I have one tall mug, ( line 4 on the Moccamaster carafe ) so I do not have a carafe sitting on a hot plate. Regarding cheaper coffee makers including Cuisinart, they genearlly last a couple of years for me, with a variety of problems. This includes the popular german coffee machines as well. Thanks for making the video, I really enjoyed it!
I have the moccamaster with the glass carafe and heat plate. It's so much more attractive, keeps the coffee piping hot. If you drink it within half an hour, it tastes great. My previous coffee maker had a thermos. I found it lost heat and it looked disgusting inside very quickly
Try using 5 tablespoons of baking soda mixed with a half cup of Hydrogen Peroxide in your carafe. Close the carafe with the screw on cap, then shake it vigorously for a minute or less and leave it overnight. Then open the lid, shake it for a momnet and then rinse with water. The Carafe should be shiny clean inside. This also works well with stainless steel Thermoses.
I really appreciate your thoughts and review. I took the leap and bought the Breville. I used your recipe for 10 cups and it is close to my Aeropress and pour over. I am very pleased with the ability to finally make 10 cups of GOOD coffee. Thank you for the time you put into the video.
REALLY well made video! Nice work. I’m commenting only 10 minutes in but it’s because I’ve been dialing in our Technivorm Moccamaster. I have been drinking Chemex and Hario V60 coffee for 20 years. My wife has always loved the Moccamaster her and her roommate from college had but I never got a good cup out of it. A couple things i’ve noticed about this particular brewer that are different from my brewing style are that it starts at 195°F, hangs around 200°F and then ends around 205°F. When I do a pour over, I brew exactly the opposite; hot bloom and let the kettle cool naturally. I’ve also found that medium roasts do much better in the Mochamaster. It doesn’t get hot enough for light roasts and is much too hot for dark roasts even when adjust grind size to account for excessive extraction. I’ve also found that grinding a little courser than what the manufacturer recommends does better in the final cup.
Hey! That really means a lot. Thank you very much. Believe me you’re the smartest out of all of us. I tried quitting coffee so many times over the past 30 years sometimes I didn’t even drink coffee for two years , was the worst two years of my life lol. If you don’t need it, you’re better off without it all of us!
@@AwareHouseChef Wow. I never knew quitting coffee could be difficult. but I guess I just never started. I keep a small jar of instant coffee around to add to a few recipes like chili. But that's it. Thanks for the wisdom! :) Have a good day!
I have the Technivorm Moccamaster Moccamaster 53947 KBGV. It has the glass carafe and is a better option than the unit that you used IMO. This unit allows you to change between 4 cups or less and over 4 cups which does a great job with consistency.
I usually brew an Aeropress or V60 for a single cup of coffee. When I’m lazy or wanna brew more cups, I use my KBTS. It’s small enough to not be obnoxious on my counter while still brewing a large enough amount. I like the manual brew basket that eliminates some of the annoyances you had with the automatic brew basket. I use a Wyze smart plug when I want to setup my brew at night and have fresh coffee in the morning. I just setup the brewer and turn the switch on. The Wyze plug will turn on after the timer finishes.
I got the moccammaster and really like it. I got the other one with the basket you can slow the drip or turn it off. As for taking the basket out it’s super easy as you just swing the water dripper to the right and basket comes out easy. Only problem now is you got me looking into the fancy roaster you got.
My arm doesn’t swing out of the way unless it is stiff from being new. Ask questions about the roaster first, especially if you have never roasted before. All the best!
I'm not sure I feel more decisive about my next coffee brewer purchase--maybe I now have more questions than answer, but I definitely feel more informed. Thanks for all of the info.
My pleasure. From personal experience, I have been using the Breville more than any of the other brewers. I really do feel that it’s the best of the lot. All the best!
You are a great teacher!!! I am trying to decide if I should go from an average coffee maker to a more expensive one. My son and daughter in law have a breville, and their coffee tastes great. I have also wondered a lot about why coffee tastes soo differently from place to place and I Love your methodical, scientific explanation. Thank you very much. I think I may have to re- watch to really absorb it all (no pun intended).
Purchased an OXO 8-cup machine for my own use. If more coffee is need for guests, I have an insulated large carafe and will make a double brew of 16-cups or 80-oz.
Wow! So much research and so much great information! Given our 18+ year friendship, it is only fair that I bow out of the "Win a Zwilling Brewer" contest to avoid any conflict of interest but I am definitely looking forward to trying out your perfected roast brewed in your favorite coffee brewing machine!
There are many "Expired" SCA certified models. The manufacturers let their cert expire after 3 years, rather than paying SCA another $5000 per model to "stay on the list". So there are LOTS of great coffee makers out there, other than "current SCA list". Like a Ninja or Bunn or Zojirushi for $70. Bonavita makes a great machine too. Also, Zojirushi (Japanese) makes top notch gear and brewers for only $70 -150.
I really appreciate the thoroughness of this UA-cam review - very informative in scope, and by someone who loves their coffee. We use a chemex pour over, and are looking for something for when we have company and want to easily make 4 - 6 cups in the morning. Thanks again for this honest comparison!
I purchased a Breville Smart Grind Machine almost a year ago from Amazon. It has been inconsistent at its best. It produces a great cup of coffee but the problem is that 9 times out of 10 it fails to produce the correct amount of coffee (8oz, 10 oz or 12) unless the tank is full. I can use either whole bean or ground coffee with this machine but once again the machine fails to live up to its reputation. When switching brands of coffee I have noticed that for some reason or another this machine will go thru beans like a hot knife slicing thru butter and find myself going thru an entire bag of coffee beans in not time at all. Classic example of a machine being over engineered. I have sent one machine back for replacement and am on the verge of sending the second unit back.
Yeah. From my experience, the machine that does everything, does everything poorly. sorry had to experience that. Just as a coffee machine, it is awesome. All the best!
@@AwareHouseChef I'm not sure if you are aware of or have ever heard of this Roaster or not. If not I would like to recommend that you try Alma Coffee to you. They own their own farms and are based out of Canton Georgia on Holly Springs Road. I have never been a fan of a dark roast until I tried their coffee. My favorite thus far is their Enchanted brand with Ember (their darkest roast0 running a close second.
These are some fancy pants machines. I typically brew just one cup of coffee. For this reason, I have adopted a simple #2 Melitta pour over technique. I buy roasted beans at the grocery store and grind them at the store in batches. I boil the water in a pot on the stove, then let it cool for 30 seconds (for temperature control). KISS. Surprisingly, I have found that not all paper filters flow at the same rate. Melitta kraft paper filters flow far faster than other brands. I prefer them for this reason.
Another awesome video. I have the Breville brewer at my house and the Cuisinart at my office. The Breville is a fantastic brewer and has excellent features. Mine also has the Pour Over Adapter, a nice add-on, but it would have been nice if they also included a Pour Over Coffee Cone. Also, when cleaning the Breville, it is good to remove the silicone spray head and clean that too. I'm really looking forward to many more videos.
Really appreciate your reviews and style. I have the Costco Cuisinart and like you said, it makes a good/decent cup. I have been researching to up my coffee game, but have not explored roasting my own beans yet. Researching grinders and coffee makers, so this was a big help. Many thanks.
Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your kindness. I just purchased the Fellow one for my son on his birthday and he is very happy with it. It seems reasonably priced. All the best
Thanks again, George! I had narrowed it down to the Fellow and the Wilfa Uniform, based on James Hoffman's reviews (and other research). Also, the Breville and Oxo brewers were on my short list. Based on your review and purchase, I will likely go with the Fellow and Breville. Also, I will try wetting the filter before adding coffee before the brew. I've seen that for pour overs, but had not thought to do that with a brewer. Keep up the great work! You are helping a lot of folks!
Hey, if you're trying to get into specialty coffee, roasting uour own beans is the last thing you should look into. Roasting is its own hobby as you'll never really roast better coffee than actual roasters, even with the most expensive home equipment. I'd focus on getting a great grinder and on perfecting your brewing technique. You absolutely need a great grinder as coffee needs to be ground fresh and can't be gotten preground.
Thanks,@@gray_gogy . I ended up getting the Fellow grinder and the Breville coffee maker. Fairly happy with those. Agree, I looked into roasting and too much effort/time to do that. Not really a new hobby I wanted to start. Thanks for the confirmation.
Agree 💯 with a great grinder! With an Ailio Bullet roaster I have yet to taste a better cup of coffee anywhere. But , it took me well over 200 roasts to get it done
I was looking for an upgrade from my black and decker of 7 years and did a lot of research. I wanted something under $100 but then I started looking into SCA. Well the Zwilling was cheapest certified. I looked online and right now the brewer is %25 off. If you sign up for email or look up coupon codes you get an additional 15% off. Therefore I bought it because I got 40% off for a total of $127.49 compared to normal price of about $200. I think this is a great deal for the price of an SCA certified brewer. But just note I bought the glass version. I don't need nor want coffee sitting in a carafe for hours. I would prefer to just make a new batch as necessary. We will see it's reliability and functionality but I am super excited!
@@AwareHouseChef for the Zwilling do you know of or have a preference for coffee filter? What are your thoughts on reusable filters? Zwilling sells a reusable as well for their brewers. I would appreciate your input. Thank you.
@John-zf2ph I use the brown paper filters. Fold it at the seams, place it in a brew basket and gently soak the filter with water, strain the water before adding the coffee.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot I had no idea of the complexities of making coffee growing up my Parents used what looked like a sock on a stick and a couple of pots to make coffee then came Mr Coffee in the 80's and that's been it untill UA-cam, it brought into light my ignorance anyway thanks for the content and for the lessons very much appreciated.
Great Video! This came up on my feed just as I was looking for a new brewer. I've just gotten into coffee roasting and wanted to get something abit better than what I currently have. I love how you get into the details and its not just a superficial review. Thanks!!
I'm just getting back into coffee. Switched to tea for the past several years. I received a Bodum pour over today, so I'll test that tomorrow. I'm sure I'll buy another machine soon. Out of what you tested, the Zwilling seems the best for me. I will not go with another cheap machine but won't spend top dollar either. thanks for your input.
Nice review. For those of us that like the simple approach my go to coffee is 1 teaspoon of instant and 1 teaspoon of Greek coffee with honey to taste. Just add hot water and cream. The times I want it a little stronger I add an additional 1/4 teaspoon of instant expresso. Basic I know but does the trick.
Sounds like you have a perfect cup. I appreciate the suggestion. I have a Greek restaurant and I enjoy a good cup of Greek coffee myself. I use a brand called Loomides - medium roast and it is delicious. All the best!
I appreciate the detailed information in your video. I used to be an espresso drinker, but lately, I've switched to coffee. Even when I had a coffee maker and always used high-quality, freshly ground coffee beans, I could never come close to the taste of coffee from a coffee shop.
I came across of your review while shopping for Zwillimg drip coffee machine. Currently we use self grinding Breville and after experiencing a lot of issue with it (grinding stopped working after several months), coffee overall tasting bland ( we do use RO water), which I learned now is not the best option :) thank you! I feel that we should get great results from ZWILLING machine as we are not super picky on the coffee grains but still need to resolve water issue as unfiltered water is not an option in our area! Thank you so much for your excellent review of the drip systems!
Toughh choice for me between the Zwilling and the Breville. The Zwilling sounds easier to use but I like my coffee hot and the option to specify water temperature on the Breville is appealing. Thank you for a very informative video.
I have always liked Zwilling products. Everyone here has told me that the Moccamaster was the way to go. I grew up with cheap coffee makers and that is probably why i never liked coffee. That all changed when a young lady at Costco introduced me to a new coffee. I purchased a cheap espresso machine, a coffee press, and a pour over. I would like a good coffee maker! I wish i knew of a place near me that i could do a taste test similar to what you have done. I had no clue about the difference water temperature makes in brewing coffee. I guess, i could have guessed, as I don’t like cold Coffee.. I am going to read up on SCA standards and the European standards and see if i can learn more about making coffee that i can really enjoy! Thanks for putting this video together, i learned that i have a lot more to learn about coffee.
You and me both. I spent more time learning about coffee than anything else. As a chef, there is nothing more challenging than to roast coffee properly. It is even harder to get a consistent brew. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I wish you all the best!
I bought a Capresso CoffeeTEC Model #471 w Stainless Steel Carafe for $149 in 2003. Great coffeemaker! I cleaned and descaled regularly. I never got into the milk frother, just made good coffee. Yes, I am still using this today (20+ years). I just broke the drip stop (yep, dropped the drip basket on the floor), called the Jura 800 number and, to my chagrin, they have no more parts for this. I'm about ready for a new brewer with a stainless steel carafe. 😎
Great video, I have been using a Bunn A10 commercial brewer for 15 years. I also have an all-glass Silex Vacuum Siphon brewer that makes great coffee too.
Thanks for the honest content and review, as always!! Currently using the trusty Aero press, and been looking for an actual entry-level brew coffee machine. Thinking the Zwilling is the one we are going to get. Still need a suggestion for a separate coffee bean grinder.
Always glad to hear from you. Aero press is a fine choice. I am going to do a video on the clever dripper. Hold out a little longer because I have a feeling that I will have more information soon. All the best
Just came accross your video. Thank you for the great information! Checked out your restaurant link and wish I lived closer to try your great food. I live on the west coast in California so 3000 miles away. Pity. Subscribed and look forward to happy viewing.
So glad that you chose to subscribe! I really appreciate the support. Let me know how I could be of assistance. Always love video suggestions and recommendations. Welcome, and all the best!
Thanks so much for the detailed review. My zojirushi coffeemaker has finally died after about 18 years. RIP. I would love to see how a Zojirushi compares against these models.
We have been using the Cuisinart 14 cup for as long as I can remember. We just have to replace it about as often as you do, once we notice leaking water from the bottom. That’s the ending issue every time!
Thanks for the informative coffee video Chef! I never realized there were so many variables that go into making a great cup of coffee! One question related to water. Would using a brand like Poland Spring water ensure consistency in terms of hard water / soft water issues? From the information you provided, I like the Zwilling brewer and I am glad I am in the running to win one! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Mike! Tell you what, I’ll check the total dissolved solids or Poland Spring and let you know if it’s in acceptable level then I’ll give it a try. Thanks for reaching out! Good luck!
For those with the Cuisinart, I turn the coffee maker on with the bold setting and leave the lid up and when the water is nice and hot, I'll lower it down to start my brew. Was looking of "upgrading" my cuisinart, but not sure if it's required now, may check again later if I need to get a replacement if my coffee maker dies on me.
I preferred the coffee from my Breville but after about eight months or so, I gave it to my sons who had got an apartment together. It just brews a harsh, muddy cup of coffee. They agreed and gave it away. I’m not affiliated with Breville or Moccamaster. I just didn’t like it. I want to like moccmaster because it has such rave reviews.
I’ve used mainly Mr coffee over the years, but recently started using a bunn and have been getting better coffee. Ironically the best was a 120$ Cuisinart grinder/brewer that lasted about 2 years… someone else bought the next brewer… I love my coffee and on strong brew!
Great video! I’m doing a deep dive into brewers, and I’m really on the fence. My Cuisinart just died after several years, and I’m doing pour-over for now. I’m not in a rush, and I know I won’t be happy until I find something that at least comes close, and my wife is more picky than me!
I think you made the Moccamaster more complicated than needed. You don’t need to swap the lids on the carafe unless you are traveling. When you want to put the basket in, you can swing the spray arm away; there’s a slot in the tank lid for this reason. As for the basket lid, I find it superfluous and just leave it off.
You don’t find the whole machine awfully flimsy for the price? I can’t slide it on my counter without losing the base and the top lid keeps popping off. I honestly don’t like the whole set up
Curious why you feel compelled to move your brewer around. Mine has a dedicated space on the counter. It only gets moved when I need to clean under it.
Thank you for the reviews. My Cuisinart is starting to leak when i set it up to brew in the morning. Time to replace it. The Breville, Bonavita, and OXO are on my radar and around my price point. I think i will want a machine with a flat bottom basket option as i think that will better suit my taste. Thoughts on cone shaped versus flat baskets?
I definitely prefer cone shaped. I find that the flat basket makes a flatter cup of coffee. I’ve been using the Breville now for almost 4 months, and I really love it. If it were to die, I would replace it with another all the best!
Great review, thank you as I have been looking for a new coffee maker. I currently have a very old, 10+ years, Cuisinart Grind & Brew that makes okay daily coffee. I have been hearing about the Technivorm and though I like it's look etc., it does seem a bit overpriced for what you get w/regards to flexibility. Now, thanks to your video I'm looking at the Zwilling and Breville makers.
According to your tests, I should be a Zwilling. We too have the Cuisinart. My husband likes dark coffee from the local roastery, and to me, it doesn't do well there. I bought a one cup Melita drip funnel and that's what I use. I wish my coffee life was simpler, but better. Thanks for the reviews.
@@AwareHouseChef will do I am actually looking at the bonavita 8 cup are you familiar with this machine I seen on you tube it hits the temp mark ect... and is listed at 179.99 and up. Please let me know if you have any experience with this machine thanks again.
A better budget set up is a manual pour over system. This is what I use. If you watch the coffee geek channels, you'll think pour overs are an arcane art, with weird precise pour amounts and timing. If you have a coffee expert's palate, you can get deep into the weeds, but you don't have to. A simple Melitta cone, a coffee scoop, and a more or less accurate water amount will produce good, if not amazing coffee. You can even get away with a cheap blade grinder, or fresh store-ground coffee. This is how I made coffee for years, and it was good. I only got geeky in 2020 - and I'm still nowhere near the pros. I weigh my beans, use a modest burr grinder (Baratza Encore) a temperature controlled kettle, and weigh my water. I bloom for 30-60 seconds, then pour the rest of the water, no fuss. With this setup I make better coffee at home than most cafes, even the fancy ones. I urge anyone looking for a better cup than their current machine makes to try pour over. A Melitta cone is not expensive; if it doesn't work for you you're not out much money. My entire setup, without the electric kettle and grinder, cost less than $30. [Aeropress is also good, but it's a different style of coffee.] George, please *do not* enter me in the contest. I have no interest in any drip machines.
Could you please review coffee brewers with no BPAs. ie: With reservoirs that are either glass or stainless steel. I simply want to drink a hot healthy cup of coffee. Thanks
Thank you for a very informative video. I’m looking for a smaller machine since it’s just me now since my husband passed away, but the Breville looks very good to me. I am wondering if it would be too big for myself? Thank you again for educating us. Blessings from Massachusetts.
Thank you for your kindness. The breville is hard to beat. If you drink 4 cups of coffee a day or a 16oz mug, the breville will be fine. I love mine and use it every day. If you are just making two cups, it might be best to go with a clever dripper. A lot less money. I would also invest in a scale and a hot water kettle as well. I hope that helps. All the best!
To me, the best Moccamaster is the Club Line classic with the glass carafe. I use a silicon trivet between the hot plate and the carafe because the hot plate does get too hot too fast. During brewing the hot plate will overheat the first few ounces of the brew, so a cheap silicon trivet will save your pot of brew. The hot plate is great for keeping the coffee warm after brewing though. Overall, it is easier to use than the square bottomed funnel version. The parts supply for Techinvorm is flat out light years ahead of its competitors. Parts availability is so comprehensive that you could build an entire Moccamaster from the ground up if you wanted.
i just got the Breville precision.. I roast my own beans and use steam distilled water with third wave minerals.. LOVE it! But I never understood the hype of Moccamaster... WHY, if you are obsessed with coffee that can have so many variables would you settle for a simple on off switch of boiled water that is all the Technivorm is?
Awesome video. I have a ninja and like it but clean light keeps coming on every 2 weeks and we only brew 8 cups a day. I like the Breville for options but I change up coffee beans a lot so keeping track of custom settings would make my head spin. Zwilling seems like best option for me. Thanks for the great indepth info. I am now a subscriber.
In 1990 I was in Berlin, went to an underground mall, and had the best cup of coffee I ever had and since then I've been trying to repeat that taste. I'm looking into a higher price point brewer hoping to repeat that great taste. So much work for a great cup of coffee.
Great vid, I caught it a year later. All of these coffee machine oddly doubled in price, most half the price since 2020. Out paced inflation :-). My old coffeee maker died, the pot liner also delaminatied. Using a cheap coffee maker, I will double a filter to increase dwell time. I have no idea what the temp is at the element now. As u said. It pushes from the bottom up. Let's see if black Friday gives us a better price on these things. My emergency replacement black and Decker needs some dickering. I still, as an amature bean snob, can't taste beyond delineatin between good bad, bitter sour, meaning can't catch the flavor notes. Then again, I have been known to dip coffee when I the infantry. Anywho great product to on value. Helpful vid
I wanted to love my Breville. In fact I have had 3 in the last 5-6 years. The first one started brewing random amounts of coffee. Breville did replace it, and then the next 2 doesn't keep the coffee very hot in a sort amount of time. The plastic also smells. I have contacted Breville but nothing was done. I love my other Breville, but just bought a Mocomaster.
Thank you! Gosh, I feel like UA-cam is saturated with grinder reviews. I think it is pretty much determined that Niche is the best for espresso in that price range e range and Fellow is a great one for general use. I hope that helps!
@@AwareHouseChefI have this grinder KitchenAid® Burr Coffee Grinder. Would you say it’s a good grinder? Or could you look into it and give your honest opinion
Very thorough review that is much appreciated! Broke one of my bohemian makers, the Sowden Softbrew, which I personally liked a lot, but my bf wants a regular "push a button" plug in machine. So this video is super helpful. I really like the aesthetics of the zwilling. I also don't like anything that is not easy to clean or may trap mold somehow. Does the Breville my brew setting you mentioned stay locked, or do you need to set it every time?
Great video! Looking for a coffee maker that has no plastic in contact with the water. Can't seem to find it. Purchased a fully ceramic set up but it's so time consuming. 😔 Had a really great now discontinued Oxo 12 with kettle it died on me they changed the design and I haven't found a product I want to replace it with. May go back with Oxo also SCAA. idk. Moccamaster was my pick but not after this. Need more cups.
I have to disagree on build quality. You were discussing usability features, which we all have an opinion on, and I respect yours. For build quality however, the MoccaMaster has a 5 year warranty, and offers replacement parts for every component. Personally I love the MoccaMaster's coffee, but to be fair, I do agitate the basket during the brew, so it's not a straight out of the box brew. I believe that the MoccaMaster was designed for european power which means a faster brew. That would force the water through the brewhead faster and result in better distribution.
Best coffee (espresso) investment I've made is a Capresso Burr Grinder. I've had it for years now and gonna cry if it ever breaks. The 3speesso makers I've bought (all under $250) all break in less than three years. The other item I've been loyal to for over 10 years is Dancing Goats beans in Olympia WA. Fast shipping, always within a couple days of roast and a variety of sources beans. The best beans for my tastes, although rarely available, are the Sierra Mixteca beans out of Oaxaca Mexico. Heaven.
@ivyjules no bit Smeg is available here. I felt it to be a little bit like a gimmick. I’ll take a look. The Breville doll has temperature control so you can get it hotter, but that may make the coffee taste worse depending on the bean
@@AwareHouseChef thanks believe it or not we had a smooth, very smooth, and full bodied dark roast coffee from our old cusinart. struggling-so far 4 heaping tablespoons (or 4 30ml scoops and smidge), 32oz water, slo, 30sc , temp. 194, in the ballpark. middle -fine grind on burr grinder.
Thanks for the informative video. Have you tried a gold filter vs. paper? Sounds like may result in deeper richer flavor, maybe not good for city roast style though. A prior brewer we had would result in bitter brew, adding a small pinch of salt before brewing to the grounds or carafe helped reduce bitterness. Tried Bunn as well, one that kept the water hot all day so would brew really fast, machine didn't last and was an electricity hog. Currently have a Calphalon, the design makes it a little difficult to use but tastes decent.
So my biggest problem with the gold filter is that the sediments that are so fine are in the cup and it makes for a very concentrated cup. I find that to be the case for light and darker roasts. I prefer not to use those filters. Thank you for letting me know what you use. I appreciate you reaching out all the best!
I do the same with a Mr. Coffee, then pour the coffee in a Thermal Carafe. Works for me.
I actually just got my Technivorm and saw the cutout, but didn't think about what it was used for, that makes a ton of sense!
Finally, a true working chef who makes great You Tube content! I came upon your videos by accident and consider myself fortunate finding your channel. I wish you much success in the future, and keep up the great work, Chef!
I am very thank for your kindness. I appreciate you very much ! All the best.
Thank you. I appreciate you reaching out. It is my pleasure! All the best!
Ditto what u said ❣️
I immediately drink the coffee I brew and do not like metal carafes.
Thank you for sharing and for reaching out! All the best!
I have the moccamaster with the glass carafe and heat plate. It's so much more attractive, keeps the coffee piping hot. If you drink it within half an hour, it tastes great. My previous coffee maker had a thermos. I found it lost heat and it looked disgusting inside very quickly
Good to know!
I am very thankful that you reached out and for your encouragement! All the best!!
Thanks for sharing!
This video was well done with great insight and knowledge. I appreciate your attention to detail and no bull approach.
Glad it was helpful! Appreciate it!
I don't drink coffee, but I watched the whole video. Always enjoy all the little technical details you teach in your videos.
I have tried the cuisine-art, non-commercial (residential) Bunn and now have the Technivorm Mochamaster. Go for the mochamaster!
Smart! Thanks for sharing that. Cheers!
I love my moccomaster and would never give it up!!!! I don’t find it the least bit clumsy.
I couldn't agree more !!!
Thank you so much! I’ve been using the Breville now for over a year, and I am incredibly satisfied with it
Purchased an OXO 8-cup machine for my own use. If more coffee is need for guests, I have an insulated large carafe and will make a double brew of 16-cups or 80-oz.

And you will my friend… you will
Wow, great video. I'm excited to up my coffee game now!
Yay! Thank you! Let me know how it all turns out!
I was just thinking that my inexpensive Ninja makes great coffee. If you use good water and good coffee, there are no complaints.

Thank you! I appreciate you reaching out!
Glad to have helped! All the best!

My pleasure. Thank you for sharing. Keep me posted about how you like the zwilling. All the best
Toughh choice for me between the Zwilling and the Breville. The Zwilling sounds easier to use but I like my coffee hot and the option to specify water temperature on the Breville is appealing. Thank you for a very informative video.
After using both, if money is not the issue, go with the Breville. I am very satisfied with it. I like the flexibility a lot

The Moccamaster (Technivorm) is worth every penny. ❤️
Did you mean the Breville or the moccamaster was muddy?
I’ve used mainly Mr coffee over the years, but recently started using a bunn and have been getting better coffee. Ironically the best was a 120$ Cuisinart grinder/brewer that lasted about 2 years… someone else bought the next brewer… I love my coffee and on strong brew!
Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I’m doing a deep dive into brewers, and I’m really on the fence. My Cuisinart just died after several years, and I’m doing pour-over for now. I’m not in a rush, and I know I won’t be happy until I find something that at least comes close, and my wife is more picky than me!
My pleasure! Thank you. Let me know if I can be of further assistance and what you end up with. Cheers!
Thank you! I learned a lot about these makers and the benefit or roasting ones own beans.
My pleasure! Thanks
I can’t fill the brewer because it is under my cabinet.
Great Video! I've just ordered the Breville on your recommendation! :-)

[Aeropress is also good, but it's a different style of coffee.]
George, please *do not* enter me in the contest. I have no interest in any drip machines.
I have found the best results I have ever experienced are with the clever dripper. Have you ever tried it?

I really tried to like the coffee it brews. I just don’t. Thanks for sharing!
@@AwareHouseChef 8:55 But you said you did didn't you? (Referring to the 8:55 time mark.)
Well, in the end, nothing beats a pour over. 👍
i just got the Breville precision..
My pleasure. Thank you for sharing and please let me know how you like your machine. All the best!
In 1990 I was in Berlin, went to an underground mall, and had the best cup of coffee I ever had and since then I've been trying to repeat that taste. I'm looking into a higher price point brewer hoping to repeat that great taste. So much work for a great cup of coffee.
It is unbelievable. I am honing in my own roasts and it is incredible to me what others feel is a good cup of coffee. Keep searching my friend!
Helpful vid
@@Retread268 thank you and thank you for sharing! Cheers
I’m curious about your experience with the moccamaster. Let me know plese
Great review. Can you do a coffee grinder showdown?
Yes it does. I use it exclusively now. It is the best and makes awesome coffee. Thank you for your kindness. All the best
@@AvaTara thank you! I will see if there is a plastic-free coffee maker out there! Cheers
Can you tell any difference between water hardness??
Absolutely 💯. Really hard water makes the coffee taste terrible and no minerals kills it as well.
Heaven.
I will wait for a green batch to come in at Sweet Maria’s and try to roast some! Thanks for the input. Much appreciated! All the best.
Appreciate your knowledge

Is the Mocca give a hot cup? I love the hot coffee cup
It does. Not scorching hot but good.
@@AwareHouseChef here in France breville is not available did u try the smeg ? I like the coffee hot is breville give a hotter coffee?
@ivyjules no bit Smeg is available here. I felt it to be a little bit like a gimmick. I’ll take a look. The Breville doll has temperature control so you can get it hotter, but that may make the coffee taste worse depending on the bean
@@AwareHouseChef ok thank u
What is your coffee water ratio for the dark roast? Just bought hoping to like it .
@@amygreen6786 same as any roast. 1200g/66.7g
Have you done any tests with the Braun MultiServe Plus? I’m interested to see how it compares to these ones
@@Mr_Bridge I have not. I’ll keep an eye out for it. Thanks!
