Technivorm Moccamaster all day. Everyday. The best appliance I’ve ever purchased. Worth every penny.
Yes. I have one of those making my primordially essential everyday coffee for the last 22 years. I also know plenty of people who have had their Moccamaster running way longer than mine, in one case for 40 years.
Greetings from Finland!
@@msumungohello from the USA! 😊
I love mine too. Got it on sale at Amazon. Irreplaceable, most cherished kitchen toy right up there with my Vitamix.
You know it!
Used daily, 12 years, still going strong
I scored big when I got my moccamaster. My local coffee shop, based in Seattle, but located a rural area was have a hard time moving them. They had 3 reduced to $99 each. I got one, gifted one to my parents, and gave the third as wedding gift.
How lucky!
The Zojirushi is small but absolutely mighty, maybe someday I can splurge on a Moccamaster but this little thing works like a dream.
My $35.00 Mr Coffee drip machine does a very commendable job, I have never had a problem with it and I have been using it for over 10 years now. Admittedly the tap water in my area could be improved but that not withstanding I really have no complaints.
Like many others, I have had my Technivorm Mochamaster for over 20 years, and it still performs perfectly.
Watching this video while drinking perfect coffee from my Technivom Moccamaster
Bridget, Find a coffee maker with a timer. Smelling the coffee brewing when you are about to get out of bed is a game changer.
That’s connected to Alexa.
@@GT1Vette Both!
@@GT1Vette Bummer.
Just plug the Mocamaster into a timer plug
there's no reason it has to be built into the machine
Zojirushi makes a 12 cup called the Dome Brew Classic thats about $30-35 more. It reminds me of the old Bunn makes, just one button thats either on or off, and the coffee is brews quick and is piping hot.
I have had my Technivorm 16 yr's have only replaced the carafe once and it makes great coffee just as it did from day one. The only thing I disagree with is the glass carafe you have a high and low burner function and when the coffee finishes brewing switch to the low burner and your coffee will be just fine. Now if left on the burner for a number of hours that probably would be a problem, but most people will drink the coffee well before that.
French press here. No filters. No extras. Really good.
Me, too!
I have several French presses and switched to the Moccamaster for my everyday brewing. I like it better.
Lots of cleaning. But I do love the flavor.
My Breville Precision Brewer is 5 years old and is use 3 times a day. I've never had an issue. I keep it clean, descale when recommended and just it keeps rocking.
I've had mine about a year. It's a great machine that gets overlooked in these 'reviews' because it requires someone to care more than to just press the brew button. Being able to adjust temp for coffee type as well as the dual basket options (plus pourover adapter!) is a bar raiser.
My problem with the Breville is that it is just tough to clean, and you neglect it at your peril. I am not good that way. Technivorm easy, very easy. But if you are on it, I think the Breville is very good.
I have several Breville products and the Moccamaster. As they are nice but they will never hold up to for the long run like the Technivorm. Breville is stylish and looks the part but still cheap on the inside.
Bought my Technivorm Moccamaster 10 years ago and have not had one problem with it with near-daily operation. Buy once, cry once. Also, should I ever have an issue, they are repairable with spares available from the manufacturer.
Did you test a Mr.Coffee? The glass carafe on the hot plate doesn't matter if you drink all the coffee up in half an hour. My little 4-cup Mr. Coffee cost me $10 at a dollar store and it's still the same after 20+ years. I grind my beans. The controls are very difficult: ON or OFF. That's MY best buy.
You got my vote.
Just bought a Mr Coffee for $25. It only has an on/off switch. I pour the coffee into my large insulated cup right after it's made and I'm good to go!
That’s my style.
I love you guys a lot but ill stick with my trusted tried and true good ole BUNN that never fails.
The Moccamaster will outlast your lifetime. They are brilliant.
They are not... The plastic parts are cheaply made...
@@vienna77 agreed
I have a Moccamaster with the glass carafe. I disagree with the thermal carafe as the better choice as you can't get your hand inside to clean and it will get buildup. If you need to hold your coffee, get a separate thermal carafe.
was just watching earlier today a James Hoffman video on using citric acid and water stand time 15 minutes to clean the metal carafe. I also do like the glass carafe.
I have a Bunn and I love it. Coffee in just a couple of minutes
I have had my technivorm for 9 years - with the thermal carafe. I got a refurb product - it makes EXCELLENT coffee - every single time. I have the breville milk frother for when I want to add fancy milk to my coffee. perfection as you can set the temperature. not ever tempted to go out to get coffee. yes it's pricey - but it is hand made quality - and then divide the cost over a decade (or more)
How well does the carafe pour? Mine is awful.
I got mine a couple of years ago on a Cyber Monday Amazon sale for only $180
Fantastic performance every day
My cuisinart has been brewing coffee for 14 years with no complaints,I'll buy another.
the problem with that is todays product is not the same as it was even 14years ago. If you can find the exact same thing then you're good, but chances are they have modernized the process to something cheap
As a coffee snob I really like the ninja CM371. Mainly because it does the pre infusion and it makes several sizes of single cups of coffee. And I believe it’s SCA certified.
Absolutely I love my ninja!!!
I bought the Moccamaster after watching this video and I'm very happy with it - in spite of the price. After buying several coffee makers over the years, I figured I'd spend the money on this one and keep it forever...we love it. Easy to use and makes consistently good coffee.
All in one hour after the video was posted?
Years ago there used to be to be the Gevallia brand of coffee that was only sold online (or magazine inserts - yes we had those) and part of the deal with a monthly membership is that they would send you a coffee maker and mugs with your first order. The thing is you could cancel after the first couple of months! The coffee was not great but the coffee maker was by Krups (a great brand back then). The line I got I have been using everyday since 2005 and it still works - Unlike the crap sold today!
I used to be a customer, but had to quit when I got laid off. I did buy their coffee urn and pewter scoop. I didn't know they went out of business.
@@bikeny The brand is still around. You can find it at Target and other places. But that monthly subscription thing I don’t think is
@@bikeny: The Gevalia coffee brand is still very much in business. I now buy the French Roast in 27.6 oz. cans on Amazon, and still can get the smaller bags at Walgreens and CVS. ☕️
I bought a Moccamaster 10 years ago, have to admit I was nervous about the price ($225). This thing brews just like when it was new. It gets used daily and always makes a perfect pot of coffee. Just keep up with the cleaning of it and it's bullet proof.
The great benefit of the OXO Brew 8 mentioned in the description is that it includes a brew basket insert designed for brewing just 1 cup of coffee. This works great and a single machine can be used to brew an entire pot or just 1 cup.
The Moccamaster is the best buy, too. Mine is 20 years old and has made at least a pot day and still going strong.
This would be a very fun test to be involved in! Thanks for doing this!
We have had the OXO Barista Brain 9-cup machine for 6 years and it works great. My main complaint is the thermal carafe doesn't keep temperature for more than an hour or so.
I have the moccamaster cup-one which I modified the base plate to accept larger cups like the yeti mugs. It not only makes a great cup of coffee but as we discovered this camping trip it also makes an excellent loose tea brewer.
nothing beats a percolator I have several but my fav is from 1945 when my dad came home from ww2 and the darn thing still works great
We love our Moccamaster. I'd rather buy an excellent, long-lasting product once than 10 mediocre products.
Zutto all the way. Makes a small amount of coffee, what I was looking for. I don’t want coffee sitting, I want it fresh! Ergonomic, simple design.
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but pretty much every single part can be ordered from Technivorm, and replaced easily, if something gets damaged. I'm on year 8 for my Moccamaster. I clean it after every box of 100 filters. It's still chugging along.
That, combined with their affordable prices on the used market makes it a no-brainer.
I'm not a coffee snob. Cumberland Farms is good enough for me. My coffee pot is $30
I see you link to the Oxo 8 cup thermal in the description box, but didn’t mention it. I have that one and it’s really great. I’m guessing it was a runner up?
I bought my Moccamaster a few years ago and I love it. Any drip coffee I brew at home is as good as any of the fancy coffee shop's drip coffee. I bought my Moccamaster because it's also a buy it for life item: any part that breaks you can buy online....you do not replace these things. I didn't go for the carafe and instead went for the glass because if you've ever had a carafe, the cleaning is awful. If that's your jam, do it. I'd rather have to drink my coffee faster and just be able to rinse out the glass.
Best option for practical bargain shoppers -- used Tecnivorm combined with insulated travel mug -- brew straight into the cup you're drinking from, and save money by not buying a carafe.
The Moccamaster is worth every penny. We will never buy a different brand again
but you will buy again, the plastic parts are junk
@scratchgolf actually you are right. We did have to replace our first one after 10 years because the switches crumbled, literally. The new one seems to have better switches and a sturdier pot.
I’ve had this Moccamaster for 7 years now and it is the only coffee maker to consider.
I have 2 melitta grind and brew that i bought fro. Target 20 yrs ago at 75$ each. They are the best and still giving me excellent brew every morning
Wish you reviewed more of the coffee makers you tested. For morning coffee a timer is really really nice. My wife, a nurse, leaves the house at 5:30AM and needs to have the coffee waiting. I currently use the 9 cup OXO, SCA rated with timer but horrible controls and a Bonavita with no timer.
So glad you guys did this comparison. I’ve just been thinking it’s time to get a new coffee machine. Thanks for the tips!
I bought the zorijushi coffee maker a year ago and it’s a game changer!! Love the taste of the coffee
What about a Best Buy for a thermal carafe of 10 or 12 cups?
As I learned early on, I pour my coffee with my mug over the sink. Apparently, "pouability" wasn't on the list of engineering criteria while designing my Hamilton Beach Dribble 9000.
Heh. Yeah, most carafes seem to be designed and built at the same factory that makes novelty dribble glasses.
OMG, Yes! They said the carafe was the best with the Moccamaster but my only complaint is the pour on the stupid thing, it pours a four inch waterfall out the thing. It has two lids, one for brewing and one for storage. The storage lid does not fit inside the machine when its on.
@@CantankerousDave LOL! Definite possibility.!
😮
That Zojirushi 5 cup coffeemaker blew me away. I absolutely LOVED that machine’s brewed coffee and the iced coffee taste.
However, the machine did not last 1 full year. When I called the company to request a replacement water tank, the representative told me the water tank is not included in the warranty. In my case, the small spring that holds and releases the water into the brewing system fell out of the tank after 9 months. That entire part had to be ordered, but it was on hold because the company did not have any more in stock.
So, I was told I had to order the back ordered part, and pay $20.00(USD) for the replacement tank, and then pay shipping cost.
That means the 5 cup $75.00 (USD price at the time) coffee maker would total just under $100.00 (USD). 😔. Not good. I am still on my search for a great, mildly inexpensive, coffee maker; it’s been nearly a year.
Again, that Zojirushi machine made THE BEST coffee I have ever brewed!
Love My OXO it's the best coffee maker I have ever had, and it is still going strong after five years. Not as much plastic as some of the other winners.
I have the ninja coffee bar with the 12cup carafe, its excellent
I love my ninja!!
Been happy with my Bunn-O-Matic for many years.
Do you mean Burn-O-Matic?
I went to school with Kelly Bunn - she was super nice
I have the smaller 8 cup technivorm with the thermal carafe, I admit I wrung my hands over the price, but truthfully, now you would have to fight me to give it up. Have to say this too though, I have had several Zojirushi products and every single one of them has been great--the mini bread maker and the rice cooker both great, so when I look for small appliances, Zojirushi gets my preferential attention. As for the Technivorm?, bite the bullet, you will not be sorry that you did.
I found a more versatile option IMO was to buy a _used_ full size Technivorm, and simply brew half a batch, which works out to one 16 ounce insulated travel mug (buy this instead of an expensive carafe, that the cheapest used Technivorms usually do not include), which is perfect. In the event that I need more, I can brew a full batch, or a second batch (it's so fast, that it's worth it, to have fresh coffee).
I bought a Breville a couple of years based recommendations for the best coffepot, and I started hating it. It didn't fit under the cabinets and it took forever to brew.
We have the Zojirushi ESC-YSC100; it’s 10 cups and makes great coffee.
I bought a Bonavita 1800 8-cup coffeemaker as an ATK “best buy” pick around 10 years ago and it’s still making great coffee. It was just under $200, but that’s cheap compared to the Technivorm here.
I own the Zojirushi Zutto, and decant my coffee into an insulated tumbler (which also happens to be Zojirushi). I often wonder why they don't make a version of this coffee machine with an insulated carafe, being that they make larger coffee machines with them…
I am loving my OXO carafe style from a previous review.
Love my Bona Vita!
Remember the thermal carafe needs heating up, I found that frustrating!
All you have to do is run water through the machine, which takes no time at all. It'll be done before you grind/weigh the coffee.
A true Comparative Analysis. Aces.
A third or fourth option would have been great too! I’ve never heard of either brand so by default - I would never buy either one of those no matter what your results are. After all you did test out a ton of them. Thanks so much!
I didn't see a Bunn anywhere? Those will make a pot of coffee in 3 minutes. The old style is basic, one reason we switched to the Ninja Coffee Bar and other than the Bunn (I once had a Bunn for 15 years) is the only coffee maker that has lasted more than 2 years in this house. We drink a LOT of coffee 😄
FWIW the Technivorm is also extremely fast. I've never owned a Bunn. Are replacement parts as easily available for them, as the Technivorms?
I love my moccamaster had it 8 years it’s tried and true
Love my Zojirushi with thermal carafe. The carafe works so well half a day in, a hot cup of coffee is still poured.
I don't even drink coffee, but I find ATK info always seems useful.
Bunn heat n brew. SCA certified. Large basket. Largeish carafe. Won’t break the bank.
I love you Adam!!!! You’re my fave. I watch this no matter what just for you. Hope you’re having a great weekend.!
Technivorm #1 going strong after 12 years. When the carafe lid got dropped and got gnawed by the dog they sent me a new one without charge. It just keeps going and going and has replacement parts if you ever need them. We have a second one at a vacation home and it has a keep warm inner lid improvement that I like. I like that it doesn't have a lot of silly features that either break down or never get used.
i used moccamaster for years , best investment
I’d REALLY love to see a comparison review regardless pod-type coffee makers. I have to drink half-caff, though my doc would prefer decaf, while my hubby can have whatever he wants (sometimes life isn’t fair). We do okay with our Keurig, but of course are always open to suggestions. 😊
ATK has reviewed them in the past, but it was likely about 10 years ago - the review is featured in a Season 8 (2015) episode of Cook's Country TV. But the review, which featured products by Keurig, Cuisinart by Keurig, Bunn, Tassimo and Hamilton Beach would be quite out of date now and is no longer on ATK's website.
I love my moccamaster
I have that moccamaster and only thing on a cold morning in the winter I gotta put hot water in the coffee pot to warm it up. Otherwise it cools the hot coffee down when it brews it. I kinda wish I got one with a warming plate. But I’m 5 years in and runs great. My cousin has had his for 14 years. Of customer service is amazing. I broke a couple things. They sent me replacement parts for free. No questions asked. Even said it was my fault
Great company. Will repair for lifetime for about $59 bucks.
Please conduct a test on brew and grind units.
Mr. Coffee made a great brew and grind in the early to middle 2000s. Unfortunately it was discontinued.
I use my old white Mr coffee which is at least 20 years old, and it works just fine for me.
The old ones were awesome. The newer ones stop working. I replaced my old one when I broke the carafe and then replaced three within two years.
@@brt5273 Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?
Moka Pot aka stovetop espresso (preferably by Bialetti) is the best espresso/coffee maker. Easy to use and clean, no wasteful paper filters, very durable and will likely last a lifetime (with care), inexpensive ($45-$50 bucks for the 6 demitasse cup model, which makes 3-4 regular cups of coffee). And the flavor, amazing. Moka Pot espresso coffee has been my go-to coffee maker for over 10 years. But if you're looking for videos on how to use it, UA-cam is not your friend. Most people posting Moka Pot videos are OCD coffee snobs and will have you jumping through hoops doing completely unnecessary "hacks".
Great analyses, I have always wanted to buy a moccamaster!
Mainstays 12 cup coffee maker $11
Now we'd like ratings on machines with larger pots, thank you
They have a 60oz/1.8L thermal carafe. I have used it for a year and love it.
@@DanBrink-k5n Thank you. Sorry if I'm not understanding fully, but to which brand/model are you referring?
Moccamaster CDT Grand
Out of ALL of those coffee makers, ONLY 2 made the cut?! 😲☕️
Shame that Bonavita wasn't in this test. They're an affordable Technivorm clone. I've had mine for 10 years and it's made perfect coffee every single day.
An electric percolator is the best way to make coffee hands down. It’s has no plastic, no filters, is as easy as drip but it’s quick and tastes good. My vintage farberware has no buttons or switches, just plug it in until the coffee is ready.
Threw out my keurig, went back to my cuisinart drip coffee maker, and never looked back. (I’m a big cuisinart fan regarding small kitchen appliances). Wish the cream/almond color would become popular again.
We killed three Keurig machines. Went back to Mr. coffee. totally satisfied.
Scoff at the price but we've had the Moccamaster for over 15 years and it's still going strong, so its value is in its longevity. I descale it on a regular schedule due to our well water. It does brew at least one pot every single day of the year, most of the year two pots a day. Then there is the speed of the brew, the simplicity of the system and the great coffee it makes. Worth every penny, will be buying a second one, this one is going to the cottage.
Love my Mocha Master. It's fast and easy and makes great coffee. No thanks for the thermal carafe though. I'll remember to turn off the plate. Don't care about reheating coffee in the microwave at all. The only complaint about the Mocha Master is the carafe is a bit small.
I brew my coffee by the pour over method. My parents have a Moccamaster. The Moccamaster just saves you the process of pouring the water over the coffee. IMO, the price isn’t worth it. The parts feel like cheap plastic and it’s too expensive. I just pour the water myself. I have a nice Zojirushi carafe and use a Melitta cone. Cheap, simple and great every time.
Did Bona Vita not make the cut? Last test I saw it was neck and neck with the technavorm at a 3rd the price.
Bonavita was excluded from ATK's most recent drip coffee maker testing which was published about two years ago - this video was recorded a few months later for the 16th season of Cook's Country TV on PBS and began airing there about a year later. ATK decided to exclude the Bonavista as the company was in limbo at the time, not reliably producing inventory or parts and not responding to customer inquires. This was addressed in their full review (link in video description). However, it appears Bonavita has relaunched and may once again be included in future reviews.
" ground to the same particle size"
The internet says "Grind Size: Cone filters typically require a medium-fine grind, while basket filters work best with medium grind coffee. This is due to the different shapes of the filters, which affect how water flows through the coffee grounds and extracts flavors."
The grinder at Costco has settings for both basket and cone.
I have an older version of the Technivorm. Love it.
i really enjoy my technivorm. i also have a previous ‘best buy’ winner, of the Bonavita. They both do a great job, but I like how the technivorm can do large and medium pots, by changing the drip rate.
I wonder how the Bonavita did this time; I suspect the price went up making it not a ‘best buy’.
Oh boy, now to decide which staff and/or crew get a free coffee maker when the "test" is over... one of the "PERKS" of working there..
Oh shoot, I thought they would go over more of the coffee makers- they have all of them ;)
I have a ninja for $65 and my friend has a Jura ($3k). He loves it but I prefer mine. Would love to try the top one listed here.
Technivorm Moccamaster sounds like a Sims 5 product
We have a Ninja coffee maker. Absolutely love it! ❤
I love my ninja too!
Helpful video. I wish you had tested the Simply Good Coffee maker against the technivorm.
I had a moccamaster for 12 years so you do get your money worth out of them
Thank you for the reviews. I wonder if the Technivorm Moccamaster would work brewing only 2 cups, or would I need to run a full pot. I currently use a Ninja that brews directly into my Yeti Rambler 16 oz mug. Thanks for your thoughts.
Coffee sock. Buy the one gallon sized linen coffee sock. Cold soak for 24 hours. Keep in the refrigerator. Makes delicious coffee and it’s enough for days. Just gotta nuke it by the cup. I also use it to make my wife an iced coffee every morning. So easy.
I also use distilled water in this process.
I get lots and lots of compliments on my coffee.
Hey, what happened with the previous winner, Bonavita???
I still have mine, makes fine coffee!
@@robwasnj I do remember one or two years ago, it was the overall winner and this time was not even mentioned. Also I got mine and still doin a great coffee. Regards

I have a Walmart Mr. Coffee. It does a pretty good job. I find it more of the grounds i use.
Please do a coffee grinding comparison.
My Moccamaster has lasted many years. Still going strong.
I like our Technivorm (which we bought many moons ago per ATK's rec) but there are so many pieces. I wish the cover for the water and the coffee was a flip up. I also wish you didn't have to have a separate pieces to close the carafe. We also own a Cusinart coffee maker. I'm curious how that stood up in your rankings.
