The prince was a disciplined student in school, helpful and simple among friends, never mistreated any person. Graduated with good grades. He was a senior in my college. I never asked for help but everybody knew that if we asked for any help he would respond and justice would be served. He was a hero. Everyone respected him. He would never do what the media said he did. This is international politics. Every Nepali knows this. RIP Late king.

Such a poor prince. He sacrificed himself so much for his people... He not only killed his both parents but he himself too... It is such a sin even heavier than Ajātasattu King who killed his father alone in Buddha's period... But still, he is such a hero for his Nepal people who should be remembered till the end of the world...

The prince was the topper of Masters level in his department. He was doing his PHD when this happened. I clearly remember him driving past us near Narayani hotel in his Black SUV the last day of his life, Friday evening. We were having our regular evening tea in one of the street stalls. He was driving. We even boasted about him going to be the first King in history that did PHD.

As a foreigner living in Nepal at the time of the massacre, I find it difficult to believe the 'official' version of the events. What I do know is, that on the evening of the massacre, I was with a group of Nepali friends about to make our way back to our room before curfew time. On the Lecknath Marg roadway, between the Royal Palace and Naya Bazar, my friends pointed to their Crown Prince Dipendra being driven past in a black SUV. We later heard that others had also seen this further along the road. Unkown to us at the time, the Crown Prince was already lying in a coma having supposedly murdered his family and then shooting himself; we only heard of the massacre the next morning. So who was it in the car which drove past us? My friends, as did most Nepali, knew their Crown Prince and were sure that they were not mistaken. Is this how the theory of a duplicate being responsible started? Did we witness a duplicate fleeing from the scene? It certainly was, at the time, a sad day for Nepal.

I have been visiting Nepal for months at a time since 1977. I was also in Kathmandu on the night of the massacre in the palace. Without going into a lot of detail that has already been discussed, I can say, I do not believe the "official version" of Prince Birendra killing his family. I recall the gunshots as we were staying in a little hotel near the palace. I remember being in lockdown in the hotel for the next few weeks. The borders were closed and the whole country was "contained". Kathmandu just went into meltdown with shock and anger and mourning, as you would expect whilst Prince Birendra lay dying in hospital. It was close to a week after he was shot (supposedly by himself) before he actually died. I remember there was talk of crowning him King during that period of time even though he was not expected to recover. I never believed he was responsible for the deaths of his family and I never will. There were just too many inconsistencies in the "official" story which constantly changed and after coming out of lockdown and talking to others who like us, were there at the time along with many locals, the general consensus was that the truth was very different. The local Nepalese spoke in whispers as they were very frightened about what would happen to them. It was a crazy crazy time. A time I will never forget. Nepal is a wonderful country. A country I shall always feel a great connection to. Hopefully I can get back there this coming September. Covid stopped the last trip I had planned 18 months ago.

What actually happened is that after the 9/11 attacks unexpectedly occurred, the United States flooded troops into nearby Afghanistan, which is also on China's vulnerable western flank. Because of this unexpected arrival of the US military, a panicked China rushed to shore up its control over its western borders. They first assassinated Nepal's monarchy, and spread a cooked up story about murder-suicide which conveniently left no witnesses. They then clandestinely armed and supported Maoist guerrillas in Nepal to create a civil war there. They used this civil war to get Nepal's constitution re-written and even to re-arrange the distribution of power in the country to favour pro-China forces in Nepal. Now the previously stable Hindu kingdom of Nepal has suddenly and magically become China's client state.

Being a Nepali, I have heard the story of Royal Massacre from the very young age. Prince Dipendra was the one who allegedly shot himself and his whole family to death. But the other versions of the stories assert subsequent King Gyanendra was the conspirator behind all this and some believe the intervention of foreign countries for various political reasons. There are even some who believes this to be the act of political leaders with the goal to end monarchy. Despite all this assertion, Nepalese government is still unable to solve the mystery, maybe because the one responsible to unravel the wonders is the culprit, .....who knows. However, my point is many historians has claimed and even started to document that Prince Dipendra put a cease to his own bloodline by conducting a bloodbath , without any firm evidence and proof. For now, for us, for the generation who knows, it would not be hard to refute and reject these allegations but what goes to future is these documentation, which will propagate the wrong history and the truth shall forever be obscured under these piles of imprecise testimonies.
P.S. This single act of historians serves as proof for how our histories could have been wrongly passed on.

China then clandestinely armed and supported Maoist guerrillas in Nepal to create a civil war there, similar to their strategy in Cambodia. They used this civil war to get Nepal's constitution re-written and even to re-arrange the distribution of power in the country to favour pro-China forces in Nepal. Now the previously stable Hindu kingdom of Nepal has suddenly and magically become China's client state.

I read a lot of the comments to see if anyone pointed this factual error in the presentation. However, since I did not see any, I decided to do it. The narrator says that the then King of Kantipur Jaya Prakash Malla fled when he learnt of Prithvi Narayan Shah coming to attack, which is completely untrue. There was fierce fighting where Prithvi Narayan Shah almost got killed even though it was a sneaky attack during the celebration of the biggest local festival Indra Jatra). Unless you say everything is fair in war, it was done against the established rules of war. After the unsuccessful attempt to save his kingdom, Jaya Prakash Malla did go to Patan and eventually to Bhaktapur. When Prithvi Narayan Shah did declare war with Bhaktapur, Jaya Prakash Malla fought valiantly alongside with that Kingdom's army until he was fatally injured. So, there!
Also, you are referring to Kot Parva (Massacre at Kot) as one of the royal massacres although not a single royal family member was killed in that episode. That too is inaccurate. Perhaps, if you had shown this documentory to some of the commentators in the documentory itself before publishing it, the errors could have been pointed out by them and rectified.

My family being from Nepal I visited the place where it happened since the monarchy compound is now a tourist attraction which seems sad for the country tbh. And if you talk to the older local women and men in the town there. The people living around the palace say a completely different story of what they saw/heard than what is said in international media. A couple different people I asked described clearly seeing soldiers being dropped off from helicopters directly into the compound the night of and helicopters flying off as well. Some reports say the son's suicide bullet wound was in the back of the head. I would not believe it all but I wouldn't completely disregard what these people said as well. It seems from what I heard that although the Son may have been involved, there seems to have been a professional executed help that night as well. We may never fully know all the details/truths and maybe that's a good thing for now, but what's for sure though is that this situation and its after-effects benefited the surrounding international countries who wanted to have an influence on politics within the country and now are doing just that. Hopefully, Nepal can work well within & with its neighbors and become a stable nation for the culture it has.

@Nalini Prasanna I understand where you are coming from and I think it is a problem in many countries. Colonisation has brought more hardship than good and left a really bad taste in the mouth of all its countries. I am not one for looking back but I believe we must learn from the past and you need to move forward. Sadly greed and power is the main reason why the politicians are not doing their work and the citizens are suffering, I have always hated how we place people in classes and then how a certain class is favoured above another. Why can't we uplift the less fortunate, why must there be this huge gap between the wealthy and the poor? There should be a middle and upper middle class only, if you understand what I am saying. This world is too over populated and way too materialistic, it is false riches that are being sold to us to enrich only a few. When you suffer to provide the basics to your family that is when it becomes a huge problem. None of this nonsense riches can be taken with us when we die one day so what are we doing to ourselves? We might be a very intelligent species but we are the dumbest too. Best wishes and stay positive, I pray for change worldwide.💚

It’s serious in the fact that the people believe it and act accordingly. A “curse” like that weaves itself into the fabric of the people involved. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Curses are a joke but when believed (especially for that long by a superstitious people) it has to be examined.

    • @andrewsuryali8540
      @andrewsuryali8540 3 роки тому +1

Belief in curses should be factored into a political situation when the population has strong belief in the supernatural. If you're a king's servant and you believe that the curse is real, then knowing that the king you serve is cursed to be the last of his line may make you behave in ways that undermine his authority. You may just ignore the crown prince (which some say was exactly what happened to Dipendra) because you "knew" he had no future. You may consider padding your own pockets for your own future like an employee of a company on the verge of bankruptcy. You may even conspire with the republicans or the Maoists because you want in with the future regime. By all accounts, this was what was happening in Nepal for a long time. Supposedly the real reason the king refused to deploy his army against the Maoists was because he thought they would abandon him and join the Maoists instead. This is not without precedent either as this was EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED in China when Chiang's northern army defected to Mao and joined him to march against Nanjing.

He now lives a lonely existence in a big mansion which was pointed out to me, in a secluded area on the side of a hill overlooking Kathmandu and he will not venture into town unless he is surrounded by his body gaurds for fear of being physically ripped apart by his own people.

Truth could have been come out but the conspiracy was well plotted, so they didn't even completed post mortem of the death bodies. There are whisper that ,"prince Dipendra was the first to receive shots and death". So how could we believe that death person had killed the rest of the souls??

I have to been to Nepal. It is a wonderful place. I made some great friends there. They are very friendly. We got invited to people's homes for chai just walking down the street. Their chai was amazing.
I was there in the middle 2000s. Maoists were terrorists. They bombing police stations and government buildings and declaring strikes and telling people to stay home.
Stores and markets were told to close and considering most people often bought things in small quantities, that was pretty devastating to customers and shop keepers a like. The Moaists did things like cut off a hand of truckers if they drove and got caught. They would stop passenger busses and tell passengers to get out or die. The ones who ignored them died when the busses were set on fire. When I was leaving the next year, on my way to Kathmandu, I remember the awful quiet of everyone on the bus when we went through an area with a lot of burned out busses. Lots of tension in the air.
There were actually a couple of bombs that went off close by where I lived for a few months. Police were understandably on edge. They would close off access and they had sand bags around the stations. I saw them beat a tuktuk driver for stopping in the wrong place to pick up passengers.
A translator friend was grabbed by Maoists and he thought they would kill him. They gave him a cot to sleep on and when he got more comfortable since they left him alone, he looked under the bed and saw dynomite. He said he didn't sleep all night due to the dynamite and wondering what they would do to him. He was a young guy and they decided to let him go. He was still shaking when he got home.
Most of the people I met in Nepal did not think that the Prince killed his family. There were a lot of rumors going around and quiet finger pointing to the uncle.
Even with the terrorism going on there, Nepal has lovely people and a lovely country.

An unpopular opinion of mine is to let an existing daughter be the queen of Nepal( i guess there is one).
I am an Odia person and I can speak from my heart, we Odias in Odisha have the Gajapati King Dibyasingha deba as our king still( though he has lands and rules over religion figuratively, he has absolutely no constitutional power). He has 2 daughters and had proclaimed to make his daughter the heir, but she married and the king adopted her husband as his son and the future king or thakura raja of Odisha. Also, in Odisha we kinda had 8 queens ruling Odisha as sovereigns historically, but I understand it wouldn't be best in the interests of Nepal and many traditionalists.
