Flagler Beach was a favorite spot for our family for a number of years when we vacationed from Michigan. In the evening, we would go to Sally's Ice Cream and then go over and walk the pier until dark. When my Wife passed in 2015, my Sons and I purchased a memorial plank in her name because she dearly loved the pier. It was placed about 3/4 of the way out but when Hurricane Matthew took the end off in 2016, her plank ended up about 10 from the end. Sadly it looks like Ian has claimed it. I would get into contact with the Mayor of Flagler Beach because I was part of the beach clean up this past weekend and we found lots of planks with writing on it and we held on to it for people to claim!!
They will be building a concrete pier but why not have a floating pier that can be pulled in like an accordion or one that slides underneath the other so it can be pulled in when an hurricane is coming and pulled out after the hurricane.
I heard that next year,2023,a concrete pier,is already planned even before of the hurricane, as a resident, I just hope so,my husband loves to go there to catch some fish 🐠.
